L'Océan

"Founded in 1981 by Louis and Yolande André, who are now assisted by their daughter Dominique and son-in-law Gérard Samson, L’Océan is a treat for the eye and the palate thanks to the huge conservatory and a menu that stars supremely fresh first-class seafood and fish. The establishment’s timeless signature dishes never fail to deliver: seafood platters, scallops in season, sole meunière or whole seabass in a salt crust (to be shared). We also recommend the big-boned lobster bisque, rich in whole pieces of perfectly cooked lobster and deliciously crunchy croutons. Finish with a wickedly tempting rum and raisin baba – the epitome of comforting nostalgia as you watch the sun set over the waves." - Michelin Inspector

Simply phenomenal. Go before they get their Michelin stars they deserve. Food and service impeccable. The view is unforgettable. We went two nights in a row. Sea bass was best we have ever tasted.

Had a lovely dejeuner here yesterday. Attentive service without being bothersome. Wine and water glasses kept filled. Several dish and silver changes. Lobster bisque was really, really good, though the menu and our waitress neglected to tell us that the €36 starter was intended to share. So we each had 2 bowls (in succession, not all at once) of the excellent soup. Tough deal. We also had the delicate, moist sea bass in a salt crust. Nice show by the server as he removed the crust and filleted the fish at table side. I watched the same guy filleting a turbot for our dining neighbors. Impressive! And the view is perfect as the restaurant sits right above bedrock tide pools on Le Coisic’s southern shore. Thunderclouds in the distance, high tide and a brisk breeze added to the visual experience. So…great food, dramatic ambience and good service. NOT inexpensive but we enjoyed ourselves immensely.

The Grand Hotel de l'Océan is a jewel. The fantastic location directly on the beach of Le Croisic offers a magnificent view of the sea. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Our room 205 had a frontal sea view with a separate room, dressing room and a large bathroom as well as a fantastic terrace from which you could not stop looking at the sea, following the tides and watching the waves. The great breakfast is delivered to your room on request. The food in the hotel's own restaurant is excellent. We can wholeheartedly recommend the hotel and will certainly come here again.

Our stay was great until today afternoon, when we were refused the table for lunch, even if there were plenty free tables. The reason the receptionist gave us was “understaffed” which was odd. But besides this one incident, everything was great - the service, room, the view from our balcony , the bistro and the restaurant. Plus the beautiful region.

Four of us had lunch at the restaurant, not the bistro. The views over rocks and the ocean are fantastic. The service was impeccable. The food was beautifully presented and exquisite in taste. Dessert was scrumptious too, three of us ordered soufflés, all cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is calm and quiet and allows for peaceful conversation. The courses are expensive but as a special treat this restaurant could not be recommended more highly.

Beautiful rooms, very large and very clean. We were given an upgrade which was extremely nice. Room 205 has two balconies. Terrific for sitting and reading. Great suggestions from staff about to see in the area. The bistro was terrific fir dinner. Breakfast had a great variety too.

This review is about the restaurant only. We called them on a Sunday at 2 O'Clock and they managed to find a table on short notice in the restaurant. 1st you have to notice the very spacious and clear the main room of the restaurant is! Indeed you have a restaurant long window that gives you a stunning view of the rocks and the ocean ... the view itself is a highlight. Then comes the menu, expensive with a great selection of extra fresh sea food. We just had some oysters, small shrimps and clams ... a real excitement for your taste buds ;) The service is very good and very smooth - a lot of people around you but you do not notice their presence - which is the sign of a very good standing. All in all, go for this place, you not be disappointed - keeping in minds that it is an expensive restaurant.

The hotel gets the big things right: caring staff, exceptional location, two fine restaurants, very clean and generally comfortable room with a lovely porch, close by parking at the small public square across from the hotel.||||A few things, perhaps minor, are still annoying. They are fixable and would make the Excellent score fully deserved. By the way, the buffet breakfast was better than average, although at the price, we would prefer to be served. With the long dining room, it takes three or four trips to cart everything one needs to a table. Both days, the orange juice was gone by 9:15.||||While English language visitors may be in the minority, having at least one English language news channel on the television would be appreciated and is quite common in superior hotels these days.||||This is a problem I have with big hotels chains too-open Wifi, unsecured, is a risk that the guest should not have to incur.||||The bathroom would be enough reason for me to look elsewhere. Having no vertical panel in the bath for the shower device is annoying. It has been a long time since I had to take a "Navy Shower": rinse; turn the water off; soap; turn the water on. Unless you have three hands, you can't use the wand without doing this. Not having a vertical bar along the wall makes getting in and out of the deep tub a risk too.||||The lighting in the bathroom would be fine for someone in a wheelchair or 5 feet tall or under. The lights next to the mirror are too low, and by the way, most of us like to shave or put makeup on both sides, not in half shadow. There is a special place in hell for the designers of track lighting that looks good in a picture and is of little use in a real situation.||||The cube shaped faucets at the sinks and in the tub are awkward, poorly direct the temperature and water flow, look cheap and probably won't last. That would be a good thing.||||I understand why you want people to enter the hotel through the restaurant/hotel lobby, not the door marked hotel. In some ways, that is good for security, but not if you had to exit the hotel in a hurry (fire or other emergency). Update your outdoor signage and make sure the door across from the elevator opens to the outside...quickly when needed.||||This is a charming hotel that easily could be a bit better.
