It's an older hotel, but has been updated. The staff I met were all very nice and helpful. Room was clean. Only issues, older toilet that flushed slowly, looked like the tub above us had a leak, because mysterious water kept appearing around our tub, looked like the air return filters needed replaced.I was in town for surgery so I didn't hit the breakfast, but coming out of the elevator it did smell amazing. Very comfortable bed, and awesome pillows, I think there were four on a bed. The TV was huge, and very clear reception. The price of the room was great. Very large pool with nice furniture around it. I'm planning on staying again.

I’m going to start this review by saying that the customer service here is 100%. I spoke with two different gentlemen at the front desk and both were very kind, understanding and attempted to make everything right. I truly appreciated their efforts. However the rooms here are NOT as advertised. I booked 2 nights in a king room, and the first room I was placed in was subpar. There were unidentifiable brown splatters on the wall, the tub faucet was leaking water constantly, there were stains on the sheets, the lamps were mismatching, the windows clearly hadnt been cleaned in months, the bedsheets had stains on it, the edging on the counter was missing and the toilet had terrible water pressure. It looked like a cheap motel. The gentleman at the front desk was very gracious when I let him know my issues and he switched me to a new room. This room was better but not by much. The knob on the dresser was missing, there were still stains on the sheets, there was a hair in the fridge and there were unidentifiable substances on the chair, the mirror and the desk. I went to the front desk again, and told the new front desk agent, that I just couldn’t stay there based on these two rooms. He was very understanding and apologetic and was willing to refund me so I could stay elsewhere. As a side note, they charge $12 per night for parking, but the parking lot is essentially shared with the sketchy gas stations on either side.

This hotel has been renovated in the last few years and upon walking into the lobby it looks nice. I was there in the summer heat and they couldn't get the hotel main areas very cool so the temperature of the hotel was uncomfortable, although the rooms were able to cool. I had a breakfast there, the food was very good but service was slow. The rooms were just okay, they should have renovated the bathrooms more. The tiles were dingy in the bathroom shower tub combo. They made the beds in my room without a fitted sheet which was odd. They did not have my coffee station stocked which I had to call twice and ask for it to be replaced. The TV did not work at first but they did fix it. There was a strange odor in the hallways as well. Overall, not a very enjoyable stay.

I appreciated the updates in the rooms and felt like the experience was good, but to get 5 stars it's gotta be pretty good to great you know? The walls had been freshly painted white, but the outlets were still the old yellow plastic. The hardwood floor was nice, but our room smelled a little like smoke and kind of musty. The hot tub was good, but the following morning it was closed the entire morning. Access to stuff was great because you're downtown. Overall it was good.

I was not happy with this hotel over New Year's weekend. 1. I had booked two rooms for my friend and I and had asked to be in joining rooms. I called about this twice before the day I checked in and I also called the morning of to verify. Come to find out, they couldn't make our rooms connecting, because nobody made note of it. All they could say was sorry. 2. We had called for a shuttle from the airport and the communication was very poor and unclear, so we ended up waiting for quit awhile to get a ride to the hotel. And the front desk girls seemed like they didn't know what they were doing. However, the driver was really nice. 3. When we got to our rooms it was extremely hot. Air circulation was not working. However, the maintenance guy was very nice and had gotten us a fan to cool down our rooms. 4. The sink drained very slowly and was clogged and it looked like there was mold coming up from the sink. 5. The phone in my room didn't work. 6. There is a 10$ charge for parking... Even though I didn't have a car to park, because I flew in. I think that's a bit much, considering the parking lot isn't that protected. 7. A couple of the housekeepers were very rude when asking for a few things. 8. Also, it should be mentioned a little better about the $40 hold per night. I had stayed for two nights. Which was $80 of a hold. I have never had a hotel hold that much before. 9. Ice machines didn't work on most floors. And there was a big hole in the ceiling of the 9th floor with no caution sign or anything.

Good Value for the price paid. I was attending a conference at a nearby hotel and didn't book a hotel soon enough. Since the host hotel was sold out I decided to book this instead since it was a quick walk away. It was a pleasant experience. The room and amenities were nice. The staff always pleasant as well. The only unpleasant experience we had was waiting for the airport shuttle which would have been late since the driver had either taken a detour or stopped for some reason. The hotel staff ended up calling a complimentary taxi for the few of us who were waiting for the shuttle. I was pretty impressed they did this for us. Overall I would recommend this for anyone who is looking for good bang for their buck!

Google
Customer service was excellent and the rooms were clean. We stayed two times on separate occasions in one week due to flights. The decor and fixtures/fittings are in desperate need of updating. The windows need to be washed so you can see the views the location offers. Price was agreeable for what you get...although had to look hard to find the right price. Free shuttle to airport 😀😀

Google
Place is a bit run down. The shower was pretty gross. The door to the bathroom had a hard time shutting. The room itself wasn't too bad. They didn't have an ice bucket which was a bit annoying. They layout of the building was a bit confusing, especially because they locked a lot of the exterior doors. The staff wasn't super helpful and took a long time to bring a crib to our room. We also had to interrupt a gab session at the front desk just to get checked in. The whole place smells of cigarette smoke. The best part of the place was their fun hipster soaps.

Yelp
Stayed here for one night as our flight was early in the morning from Salt Lake City. Check in and check out was easy. The room was good, got upgraded to one with a view though it was cloudy anyways and we couldn't really see much. Parking is in the back in an open lot. It can be full if there's an event going on. Overall decent experience, good place for short stay and also is somewhat close to the airport.

Yelp
I'm going to review Hotel RL in a timeline fashion, so it's understood as it happened. First, some generals: The hotel lobby is set up like other Hotel RL's; very modern, options for live entertainment, and areas to working (if desired/needed). This hotel has updated some hotel rooms, but not all. There are several areas of the hotel that could use some updating. Perhaps these are all in upcoming phases of the revamp. On to my personal experience. Note: visiting on business... Sunday Checked into a room that had a broken mirror. We asked if we could move, and without hesitation, they moved us. A few hours later, housekeeping knocked on the door to check the room (that's a new one). Keep in mind the time is roughly 5pm. I told her we would be here until Wednesday. She said ok and life went on. Monday Went out to get coffee, still exhausted from a long travel day, to return to my room to start work. While in a video meeting, housekeeping ENTERS MY ROOM (~2:45 pm). No knock, no notice of "housekeeping", just enters my room. I ask her how could I help, she said "I'm sorry, my board says this room is empty". Guess what Yelp? It was the same person from Sunday. This time I ask "do you want me to go down and talk to the front desk?" She replied "no". Fast forward to about 4pm. Again, I'm on a conference call when a louder knock comes to my door. I answer it only to find security standing there. This guy tells me he was sent to clear the room because he heard it was a problem. I wanted to be sure he meant my room. So I asked "are you sure it's my room?" He replied yes, he was told to clear out the room as the room should be empty. Here I am in the middle of a call, and forced to walk down (being escorted of course) to talk to the front desk. It was highly embarrassing, it interrupted my work day, and increased my stress level. After being there for about 10 min., they realized someone changed our room, but never updated the system. Why didn't the front desk just come up and ask? Why send security to clear a room without knowing for sure what's happening? I left really calm, but inside, I was boiling. Lesson learned: keep all locks on the door. Tuesday After getting my coffee, I wanted to talk to the manager about the events over the last two days. After about 15-20 minutes of waiting, I spoke with Brandon. Brandon was nice and had no clue these events had happened. He called it harassment. I would not disagree. He said he would talk to both, security and housekeeping, to find out why these events happened. He wanted to make the stay better, but the room was booked on a corporate account and paid for already. There was really not much to be done. Wednesday (last day) Getting dressed at 8:33am...my husband standing there 99% naked, guess what happens. No seriously, take a guess??? Yep, you guessed it...housekeeping bust into the room without knocking. At EIGHT THIRTY THREE IN THE MORNING. Listen. If it had not been for us trying to leave for a flight, we would've been sleeping. What are you doing in people's rooms at 8:33am? We called for extra towels at 7:30am...that took 35 minutes. But you can bust in rooms at 8:33am? Highly upset, I asked her how could I help. She said with a smile "sorry, 11am". With very poor English, it wasn't worth more of my energy. On my way out, I stopped by the desk and asked Brandon to make sure housekeeping knows our checkout time, because they just opened our door unannounced. He shook his head in disbelief and got on the wallow talkie. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. My bed was updated, but the room itself, no way. It is not reflective of other Hotel RL's I've stayed in. There was a space heater for heat, outdated bathroom, and a vent in the ceiling that could fall down at any time. One thing to note: I had the do not disturb sign on the entire stay, as most of the time I was on conference calls. The staff here are not reading the sign. Be sure, if you decide to stay here, check out your room before you accept. Keep all locks on your door, at all times. I will still attempt other Red Lion brands, but I will never willingly book this place again

Yelp
Stayed here with my husband as he had to come to town for work and his job put him here. His last trip to SLC he was at Grand America, so needless to say this was quite the experience. Upon arrival, we noticed a halfway decent/updated lobby. When you walk in you actually think for two seconds that you are in a trendy, decent hotel. When we were walking to our room, the hallways smelled so horribly of smoke that we assumed there HAD to be smoking rooms in this place. Our bathroom was quite questionable, to the point where I was ready to go out a buy shower shoes. The vent for the air in the bathroom was so dirty and there is grime in the shower tiles. I 100% would not spend my hard earned money on this place. Truly. Spend a little more and stay somewhere with a better reputation and a place that is actually clean

Yelp
Five stars for Dixie at the front desk & Robbie in the bar. Beyond that yuck! From far away looks good but once you look closer it's far from good. Dirty & understaffed. A dog shit outside the front door on the main walk way to the lobby; it was there for out entire stay (2 nights / 3 days) with guest stepping in it. A storm rolled through & we could hear rain water dripping in the wall all night long. Mold all over the floors in the hallway. The two nights we stayed they never had ice available on our floor. Sink wouldn't dran. Stains on the bath towels. Bathroom lights didn't work. Shower curtain rod was bent & hanging on by one screw. No bathroom fan. Wallpaper was peeling from the walls. Vents were dusty. Furniture was beat up. Black out curtains didn't work since a layer of blinds was missing. Was expecting more from a Red Lion national chain.

Yelp
Well.......... First impressions. Younger generation influenced? Not like any red lion I've been to. Or any other hotel for that matter. Front lobby. Where's the front desk? It's a computer on a desk..lobby got crowded as check in got backed up. Wooden stair seating area for, skiers? Bar. Didn't have corona. Out. Dinner. Had the most expensive think on the menu. Salmon- ever so slightly overlooked. But not to the point of cooked dry. 4.5 stars. Great veggie base. Potatoes previously? Cooked. Toughest potatoes I've ever had. Cooked till hollow of moisture. Considering how great the rest of the veggies were. I thinketh they were previously cooked and now cooked once again. They were horrid. Yet. The test if the plate actually made up for it. No kidding. Brussel sprouts , zucchini, green and red peppers, lemon, carrot, carrot, Plate presentation , dull, but I don't care. I'd give the dinner 4.5 stars. Even though the fingerling potatoes were horrid. I'd eat it again. The best thing I could say about a meal. Bar area dull. Two muted? Sports tv,s. Can't see them from the bar....No music. So Food 4.5 Rooms 4 ( air conditioning descent, not great. Friendliness. 2.5-3. A bit... apathetic, no that's not the word.....lacked energy and interest. Polite yes.. just minimal. Signage to find tour room. Weak It's value here. Good bang for the buck. I'll return. But if it weren't so hot out I'd probably look for a sports bar / American gourmet place to walk to to try out. Again. Value.

Yelp
What a disappointment! The first room they put us in, on the 3rd floor, had so many red flags. The elevator stunk. The third floor stunk. Like someone smoking pot and covering it up with a fruity deodorizer. The phone didnt work for us to call the desk. The air conditioner didnt work..the room just kept getting hotter and hotter. They quickly moved us, upon complaint, to the 7th floor, same type of room. There was a noticeable improvement. The floor smelled a bit better. The room was cool. The phone worked. However, we came to find out that the toilet did not flush well....you had to stand there and hold the handle until the contents were completely flushed away. Then, there was the parking lot. We were told there was a $12 per night charge for parking....but the parking is just a large pay to park regular parking lot. After speaking with the manager, I was told we were paying for security. Sheesh! Yes, we saw that there were quite a bit of homeless wandering around by the cars each day, and the clientele of the hotel were similar. I will post pics of the parking lot. We were told that if we didnt pay thru them to park, we would be ticketed or towed. The last night we were there, I saw a car parked in the no parking zone of a handicap spot. It was there from at least 7:30 pm until after 2:30am, and no tow, no ticket. We ended up parking on the street a bit away each night. Seemed to be safer. Another note about the 3rd floor...it seemed to be a party floor. Several people came on and off the elevator from that floor, and they had the MJ smell....the whole floor did...all week! I dont give the impression of a drugie, so I'm upset that I was even put on that floor in the first place, if that is where they were putting all the pot smokers. No, it's not legal to smoke pot in Utah in a hotel. The carpet at our entry door was very dirty. I watched every day to see if it was vacuumed. It wasn't. I'll include pics, so just zoom in to see the dirt, which complied each day. The lobby men's bathroom was disgusting. My son in law went in there, and the toilet was poopy and gross, and there was a crack pipe on the floor in front of the toilet. I mentioned this to the manager, and he said that bathroom is just for guests.....uh, yes! You have druggie guests on the 3rd floor! Sheesh! So, all in all, NOT what we expected at a Red Lion. Way under par. We'll choose a different hotel the next trip.

Robbin M.

Yelp
So I will tell you as an airline crew member I spend 2/3 of my life in a hotel. So we are very picky. This by far used to not be one of my favorites. In fact I bid avoid SLC so I didn't have to stay here. Things have changed. Not only is it newly remodeled by I feel the difference in the front desk and overall staff attitude. The shuttle was timely and rooms clean and comfortable. Happy camper now! Oh and Katelyn is amazing.

H N.

Yelp
Nothing as it seems. You get what you pay for. Actually, I've stayed at Motel 6 and most rooms were cleaner than this. Booked the room for a great discount $45 a night through Hotel Tonight. Definitely not worth it hotel tonight. To think that they charge customers over $95 a night for this disgusting filthy armpit room! I wouldn't let my dogs stay in this room, oh yeah they allow pets, all the more reason to change the fucking filters idiots!

Lynn G.

Yelp
We were on a road trip (9/4) with two other friends and had two vehicles. We got two rooms . So, we should have gotten two parking passes. We were given our keys, room numbers, etc. However, i wasn't given a parking pass. The front desk clerk must have thought we were all in the same car. Next day, I go to our car and I have a $45 ticket. I go to the front desk and they offered to credit my $12 per night of parking but (Brandon) told me I would have to fight the ticket myself. WTH? I asked him to credit my room $45 and he wouldn't. Why am i writing all of this on Yelp - Because you can not get a human on the phone at this hotel. Sooooo frustrating. I will say, the beds were incredibly comfortable. After Brandon's Response UPDATE: Again, how would I know i needed a parking pass if the front desk didn't offer one??? Honestly, Your reasoning makes ZERO sense. The worst - DON'T STAY HERE.

Nidhi M.

Yelp
The hotel is old and dated. The bathrooms are really dirty but the rooms are relatively okay. The hallways and rooms smell like smoke. We changed our rooms twice for a 3-night stay. The ONLY good part about the hotel is that they have a big parking lot, which cost $20.

Angela W.

Yelp
First, the pics of hotel are not correct. The exterior is not the modern square look, that is another location. You hear doors slamming all day and night I could hear someone using the toilet upstairs of me. And stomping around. The bed was comfortable and good sheets/comforter, but only a top sheet not the fitted sheet so it kept coming off and we were sleeping on the mattress. Breakfast not included so we ate elsewhere. But parking was free There were 3 beetles in the room. See pics TV did not work. Called front desk twice they said they'd send someone up but never did. Otherwise the room & hotel were ok, cleaner than expected and secured entrance. They let us have early check in for $15. Lobby area is chill, but portable "front desk" area weird. Could be placed better so you're not standing in the middle of the walkway and looking at the back of computers. Good location lots of parking. I just wouldn't stay here again.

Kelsey M.

Yelp
Run far away from this hotel, and run fast. We booked a room last minute through booking.com and arrived to the hotel about 11pm after driving all day. 5 police cars were parked at the entrance with a gathering of people/hotel guests/homeless people (?). We circled around the back of the hotel to look for parking and yet another police car was parked behind. We stopped and asked the officer what was going on and if we should be concerned staying there. Basically he said he was stationed there to monitor the homeless, the COVID-19, and transient issues going on. Which still didn't explain what was happening at the front. Finally we went inside to get a refund for our room and when we told him we didn't feel comfortable staying at the hotel, the man at the front desk said "I have no idea what's going on out there, but you'll be okay in here." And "were downtown in a big city and my security guard would tell me if something was going on." As we were leaving the parking lot a Salt Lake City Crime Scene vehicle pulled in and joined the officers at the front. Obviously, something was "going on." I am aware we are in a pandemic and of the homeless situation in SLC, however safety should be a priority for all hotel guests. I have been in many downtown areas in large cities and this is an unacceptable response from hotel staff to what is literally happening outside their front door.

Julia K.

Yelp
Update. I see the response from the owner. I'm sorry, but no one sent security "many" times. Just twice. And no one asked them to leave. At 4:30 am my bf went to the corridor (some people from the party room was hanging out there) and ask them to be quiet. The party stopped only around 5 am, when my bf asked them to be quiet for the second time. As other reviews mentioned, around hotel many homeless people that don't looks friendly. I won't recommend this place to anyone.

Robert W.

Yelp
Well, first of all R L is an interesting name for a hotel! It s just not catchy and it s easy to forget! I come here once in a while and have to say that it s a fairly comfortable hotel. The remodel is obviously a quick job to spruce up the facility. Honestly, the lobby looks very awkward with the center sitting/waiting area. It s so bulky and does not leave room for large crowd and luggage. The gym could be improved significantly. It s really basic and you can tell right away from the machines they have that whoever designed this space .... does not workout! The rooms are very comfortable. And the updates look very nice. I do have to agree with the peeling wallpaper. The rooms amenities are very nice. My room has a microwave and a fridge. That s all the features that I really need when ink on the road. 5 stars for having all that! The staff has been very nice on my annual stays. I wish they would have better landscaping outside. The area does not look very desirable. There s a gas station next door. A subway, an Indian restaurant and a Thai restaurant are also very close. Otherwise, the restaurant is a nice option if one does not want to wander out. So I hope management reads this! Make the small improvements to enhance your guests experience and you te on your way to 5 stars!

Yelp
For the price, the little Lion that could.. Actually does quite well. Pros:. Very spacious room, and I'm sure it was on the least expensive side of the options. Connecting the main room to the bathroom, a small work desk begs to be sat at, and in turn, opens the room up into a very stretchable living area. The hotel somehow discreetly manages to side turn the homeless population either away or inside and hidden from the general, regular paying, snooty Sheeple population such as ourselves. This is quite a feat, considering how many surrounding hotels have not learned how to accomplish this monumental task (Motel 6, Econo Lodge and City Creek). Pillows. Great mundane balcony view. Gives off a more expensive vibe and feeling then what it actually is probably worth or has given to you for the evening. Cons:. Inexperienced staff. Ridiculous contingency card fees. Speaking of which, i am still waiting for a silly little $50 hotel room destruction contingency deposit fee do we appear back on my credit card you know actually that really really chaps my hide. If something happens to my room for god sakes just charge me you don't need to hold it against me for a fucking month. And for this reason alone, I will never visit this, wonderful spacious hotel which actually feels much more expensive than it actually is... Again.

Jacquelyn T.

Yelp
I'm very happy our company will no longer be using this hotel for business trips. Changing the name from Red Lion to "Hotel RL" was just putting lipstick on a pig. I've seen a condom lay in the hall for over 4 hours, when housekeeping staff was on the floor. I've found toe nails laying on the floor by the bed. Many, many times I've had to call maintenance when I checked in because The air conditioning and TV do not work properly. Now this time, the microwave was dirty and the toilet overflowed.

Crista L.

Yelp
In this review I could talk about how I was misled in photos on the internet of the cleanliness of this hotel. I could talk about how the mattress in my room sank so low in the middle, I wondered how many years' worth of people have laid in it. I could talk about the flashing light outside of my room (at the pool) that blinked at me all night long, from sun down to sun up. I could talk about the old, nasty wallpaper in the bathroom that's been painted an ugly shade of brown. I could talk about the stench of the hotel once you've left the lobby. I could talk about how my room didn't have any information on SLC, didn't have any information on the restaurant that was in-house, that didn't have any information at all. I could talk about my experience in the restaurant: poor service, can't take alcohol or glasses up to the room, no room service, WTF. I could talk about how I slept with one eye open because I was fearful that the old ass, nasty mattress may have bed bugs. I could talk about how I had to turn the heat up to 80 degrees just to stay slightly warm in my room. (I keep my house at 68 degrees). But nah, I won't talk about any of that. I'll talk about how cute and trendy the lobby is, it makes you feel *cool* upon entering (even though I knew there was a bit of sketch when looking behind the barren front desk area. And I'll talk about the delicious orange water that is available in the lobby - I do believe it was the best part of my stay.

Cindy Z.

Yelp
Old, dirty, and disgusting hotel. Not sure how they're still in business. First of all, my room smelled like mold. Upon inspecting further, I noticed that the sliding doors for the closet were broken (they didn't even bother fixing it before releasing the room to be checked in), rendering it useless. I didn't want to move it and end up breaking it further. To make the matter worse, I noticed strands of hair (not just one, but multiple) on the towels that were hanging on the rack. I don't know what your standards are, but freshly prepared room should not have dirty towels hanging. Oh did I mention that I spotted hair strands on the pillows as well? Last but not least, the heater wasn't working. It would not go above 75 degrees, no matter what I tried. I read a review that this is a standard with this hotel. Well it's not going to fly come winter in Utah! Save yourself and go somewhere else.

Shasha C.

Yelp
I was attending a conference in the city and was allocated at this HORRIBLE hotel to say the least. I work in hospitality so I'm a well traveled person and my experience here was terrible, starting with having to call twice bc the AC unit was dripping water all over the entrance of the room. Followed by the time that I check into the room, the bathtub was totally dirty, yellow tiles, broken mirrors, the nightstand next to table had something white that apparently was spilled there that never git cleaned up. Hallway and room carpets disgusting, thank God that I use flip flops in the rooms and showers just in case. And what a welcome with a "reception desk" that right there in there sets the expectation of what kind of service and hotel it is. Anyway the most disgusting experience I ever had in a hotel.

Ignacio R.

Yelp
Don't stay here. Very unsafe, lots of homeless around the hotel and outside the front doors. The hotel also is dirty...

Stefan B.

Yelp
I agree with the some of the other (honest) reviews here. The website is completely misleading... great photos lead you to believe this is a great deal. It's not. The lobby smells like a casino aftermath from the 70s... some ungodly sterile stench applied to whatever they use to clean the carpets with. And the internet is a joke. Tell you what. Don't offer Internet at all.. vs coaxing me to pay $10 for one hour of decent internet, and providing crap internet as a default standard. Spend your hard earned dollars elsewhere. I really don't blame the staff, but some mega conglomerate is selling a boutique hotel chain image here, and it's anything but that.

Jill P.

Yelp
Very deceiving pictures and unfortunately such a let down. We booked a one night staycation to celebrate mine and my husbands birthdays. We found a great deal on Groupon and the pictures online made it look so appealing! The only nice part of the hotel is the remodeled lobby and lounge/restaurant areas. As soon as you enter the hallways and elevators you realize the rest of the hotel is very outdated. Stained carpets. Dirty elevators. Broken furniture in our room. Stained curtains. Etc. The worst part was the smell... it wreaked of cigarette smoke throughout the hallways. I never leave negative reviews, but was just so disappointed by our stay. I will say the staff was very friendly! The bed was comfortable. The location is a great central downtown location and I loved that the hotel is also pet friendly.

Franki H.

Yelp
We just checked in only to be severely disapointed in this hotel. There is ONE employee in the lobby and clearly that is not enough. The lobby is currently full of about 3 parties muttering angerly. We waited 30 minutes for an employee who was getting a luggage cart supposedly. It would be one thing to say, "We do not have any right now," but worse to make us wait for nothing. After getting sick of this, we hauled it all by hand to the 9th floor to find a huge clump of hair and dust dangling from the ceiling by the elevators. On our final trip to get our things inside, 52 minutes after an employee was "just bringing one down from the 7th floor," there is no cart and more parties clustered around waiting for the SINGLE employee checking people in. The look of this hotel was promising. The design, too. The room itself even seemed nice, but by the time we reached there I lost all faith in this Red Lion. What I see is an understaffed, poorly managed, and dirty hotel.

Yelp
A friend and I were staying in SLC for a concert and got a Groupon for this hotel. I didn't read any reviews before buying said Groupon, and after telling my parents where I would be staying I was told this was a bad area to stay and all the reviews I read the day of the concert were all horrible !!!!!BUT!!!!! When we arrived we were in complete shock! One of the reviews said the hotel did not look like it did in the pictures. That was completely false this hotel looks exactly like it does in the pictures on the website and it was beautiful! Another review said the hallways smelled of smoke and the rooms were dirty. Both of which were not true for my stay. The room was beautiful with an amazing view of downtown. The hallways smelled like normal hotels (clean) the only thing I noticed was the walls are a bit thin (we had a couple with three kids next to us so we heard all the children crying) over all my stay was really really nice and I would come back to stay again!

Yelp
This is truthfully the dirtiest hotel I have ever stayed in in my life! We went from room to room looking for a clean room and found none! I finally had to settle on a room where I had to cover up disgusting stains that were left by previous guests...every room has cum stains on their red cushions... from broken parts to blood on curtains, water stained ceiling etc... and management really didn't care. The only one that cared in my opinion was Kaden... front desk guy Took me from room to room looking for something clean and we found nothing. The health department should investigate this place... beware

Yelp
Update, response to Brandon: I didn't book through Groupon. Furthermore, I've received now 15 emails from AGODA telling me that the hotel even up until today will not and has not responded to their requests simply to confirm that this happened, so that THEY can refund me. I finally got response from the RL Salt Lake Brandon Fultz (YOU, Sir. You're the one emailing me) saying: "I apologize for the issues when you got here to hotel. Unfortunately when you do book online no room or room type is guaranteed. Therefore if we do not have the room type you booked we are forced to give you what is available. The 3rd party sites will not inform you of this because they want you to book regales. This is why the front desk agent told you about run of the house unfortunately." Also, the front desk did not mention run of house. They said, quote, "we are overbooked for king rooms. We don't have any for 3 weeks. But it's ok because I'm going to give you a parking pass to go along with the double queen [NON ACCESSIBLE] room I'm giving you". I also received this 15th email from AGODA (not Groupon): "Kindly be informed that we have not received any response from the property yet. Please be reminded that we are also doing daily follow ups on this issue. We will update you as soon we receive the response from the property." Keep in mind now, this is about my booking on MARCH 2nd. It's now March 24th and even with DAILY follow ups from BOTH myself as well as AGODA (again, not Groupon...) and evening though Red Lion themselves don't even have to refund me, they still can't be bothered to respond to Agoda so that THEY can simply refund me. This hotel in short ladies and gentlemen, is completely ridiculous.

Yelp
Hotel RL is a hard no for me. I booked this hotel knowing that the Red Lion used to be an iconic Salt Lake hotel, and I thought that the rebranding from the Red Lion to Hotel RL meant that the place was recently renovated, but that definitely isn't the case. The shift from the Red Lion to Hotel RL is a rebranding in name only. The interior of the hotel is completely rundown--lobby, hallways, guest rooms, etc.--and the whole place smells like mold and feels sticky and damp. The only thing that isn't terrible about this hotel is that the beds are decently comfortable, but beyond that, everything else was subpar and gross. Lots of hairs in the bathroom sink and shower, red bubbling paint in the bathroom (when has red paint in any internal room ever been a good idea?), mysterious substances on the walls near the bed (blood? other bodily substances?), paper-thin walls (woke up to the sound of the person in the room next to me puking at 3:00 a.m.), broken curtains, tattered chairs, extremely sticky surfaces (countertops in the bathroom, tops of the dresser and nightstands, etc.), dirty carpet that obviously hadn't been vacuumed for days, and numerous garbage items in the elevator (a lovely lost toilet brush and apple core being just a few). The list goes on and on. I refused to take off my shoes except when getting into the bed and I made sure to touch all surfaces with a tissue because the room felt like a giant bacteria trap. The staff was also . . . interesting. There was a woman who was endlessly mopping the lobby but who never seemed to do anything beyond that; she would go right up to people and they would have to lift their feet and move their bags because she was mopping so close to them. Meanwhile, the water and coffee stations were empty for hours (also, be aware that there isn't a continental breakfast). She also asked a number of staff about her paycheck being late and was reprimanded by one of them for it in front of several guests, which I thought was very unprofessional on his part--why wouldn't they have this conversation privately? And why wasn't the housekeeping staff being paid on time? I initially chose this hotel because it used to be a decent one, and because I wanted to have a more unique experience than I would have at a place like the Holiday Inn or Best Western. Bad idea. This hotel is MORE expensive than those ones, but it's much closer to an extremely rundown Motel 6 than to the iconic downtown hotel it used to be. Hopefully they will renovate the place and make some big changes soon, otherwise I doubt this hotel will be around for the long-term. I will definitely not be staying here again. So many better options nearby!

Yelp
2 stars. The renovations are beautiful...however, the original state shines through it unfortunately. We stayed here this past weekend for a little staycation, and for a last minute booking it was decent. Staff was friendly and helpful. Generally clean- but sheets were questionable. Pretty views of the mountains. Good location for walking to TRAX or all the way downtown. Decent food- breakfast came with our booking on Expedia- i wouldnt have paid for it otherwise. The room hallways were hot! The towels had makeup stains...gross. The air filter was sooooooooo full of crap it was awful! I wanted to have them change it while we were there, but I didn't want the crap floating around in our room. Bathroom was renovated, but tub was old and crusty. However their toiletries were nice. Hot tub was hot, but dirty. For $80/night on Expedia, the price was right- but I wouldn't pay more.

Yelp
I do have to disagree with many reviewers as I did find the hotel clean, quiet and nicely renovated. The room was adequately equipped and had a good view of the mountains. My problem and concern which results in only one star is customer service and safety. I came back to the hotel after being gone all day to find my room door propped open by dirty towels. Not just cracked open but wide open like i was trying to move furniture in or out of the room... When I reported it, the front desk told me the best they could tell the door had been open for no more than 7 hours. 7 hours, and told to me like it should be a comfort that it wasn't longer! Beyond me telling them, no follow up from anyone in the hotel - no call, no information about what happened, no reassurance that the hotel cared what happened. Terrible. Also not that it really matters, but the room wasn't completely cleaned either. More concerning was the lack of care and that it was difficult to continue a stay and feel my items were safe.

Yelp
The level my room was in stunk of intense cigarettes. The mini fridge in the room did not keep my food cold and smelled like rancid fish along with the matching microwave. Will not be coming here again.

Yelp
Same review I posted on booking, just in case it doesn't get posted... I debated on leaving a review or not, because the staff is so kind and really tried to make my stay better.. BUT these rooms.. Mediocre at best, Reminiscent of the budget suites here in Las Vegas... I have to get this out seeing as this is my second time staying here and really wanting to like it because of the convenience and the price only to be disappointed. Thoroughly. My first room this visit had a busted bathtub, Water was just continuously running. I pull the sheets back and there were yellow stains all over, as well as what appeared to be curly little pubes everywhere. The pillows had stains on it and different hair.. I went downstairs to let the front desk know, I considered checking out right then but it was midnight on a Friday and I had been driving for 6 hours, and he kindly offered me a "PREMIUM" room upgrade.. This room was literally no different than the previous except for the fact that it had a tacky over-sized headboard and the heater didn't work properly.. again with stains on the sheets, curtains and a toilet that had some remaining bodily fluids from the previous guest, THERE WAS LITERALLY NOTHING PREMIUM ABOUT THIS ROOM. Same sq footage, same view, same bathroom, same king size bed. Premium means nothing to this hotel. I had the worst sleep because my room would not stay warm, once the heater shut off the unit started blowing out cold air. I had the temp set to 78 mind you. I slept on top of the bed with my own pillow and my own blanket. So it was less than ideal. The next morning I took a hot shower and got ready to be gone all day, came back around 12:00 AM, started running the shower for about 3 minutes only to step in and realize THERE'S NO FUCKING HOT WATER. Topping to this miserable stay. I packed up quickly and checked out. thankfully they only charged me for the first night. I hope that this review helps the hotel make the proper and much necessary changes, Check for stains before putting them on the bed, Don't just think because they were put in the wash that it's okay. It almost seems as if housekeeping just doesn't care. Also Guest, Please please please make sure you are locking your cars and not leaving anything valuable in them because on two occasions I saw homeless checking car doors of the guest and trying to get on the buses that are parked there..

Yelp
The lobby was really nice since it was just remodeled. However, I think they could have spent some of that on the rooms. They were old and had a lot of little touch ups needed that would have made a big difference. There is no convenience store in the hotel. They fired you to the gas station next door, which is kind of sketchy especially late at night. My biggest complaint is the housekeeping service. If you plan to be in your room any later than 9:00, you're room won't get cleaned. We stayed for 3 nights and the only housekeeping service we received was fresh towels on the 3rd night after I had to specifically ask for them at the front desk. Probably won't be staying here again.

Yelp
The hotel's pictures are deceiving! Me and my husband got a pet friendly room for one night and it seemed as though they didn't clean it properly because we had a pet with us. The room smelled like dogs and was damaged and dirty. The TV stand was missing the baseboard, the wallpaper was ripped, and the bathroom had stains. We complained and got a different room, but it was about the same.

Yelp
This hotel is so disgusting. When I checked in and the guy at the front desk had no mask on (yes during covid 19) he said he got ketchup on it so he took it off. When I went up to the room and I opened the door, the light wasn't working. There was an extremely loud noise, thought maybe it was the ac unit so I shut it off. It was the elevator room that was outside the door. I went downstairs and had him switch my room. When I got into my second room.... complete filth. This place is full of tweekers rooming the hall ways. Was supposed to stay two nights ... I definitely canceled the second night and if it wasn't so late I would have canceled the first night. If i could post the videos of the stained pillows and the hairs I found in the sheets I would.

Yelp
I am so TORN on this review. Got this hotel for a great price of $70 on Priceline name your price! Stealing! By the look of the website I was ready to be wowed. When I walked into the lobby I loved modern/minimal feel it had. Super cool front desk and the lady (forgot her name) and JOSH were really friendly. I was traveling with a friend, and made a comment about us snuggling in a king bed - they quickly offered to put is in a double room instead! So kind! So up to our room, quick elevators, but my heart dropped when I realized those sliding glass doors DO NOT open to the balconies. So in that regard I would have much rather been at The Sheraton across the street. UGH! The rooms don't have carpet, and the wall paper is cool. Huge TV, didn't turn it on. Spring mattresses lol. Loud - but I actually slept pretty good. Bathroom area...Sink/mirror area IN THE BATHROOM and there is no fan...so getting ready was a night mare. Nice shower head...but the shower unit itself was old and dirty/peeling. They do have my favorite bathroom products tho... Cascadia!! The "restaurant" in the lobby was kind of a night mare. I would avoid, we ended up walking to Legends instead! So as I said before, not terrible, but I didn't love it. 3 stars.

Yelp
One star because zero isn't an option and would say stay here only because of location and cheap discounted price. ***PRICELINE LISTS AS LUXURY *** Front lobby area very nice and updated- HIPSTERISH if you will, once you take elevator you go up to a floor with casino style carpet and lots of weird off putting smells. Entering dark room, and light switch doesn't turn anything on, neither does closet area switch... bumble across your dark room to rifle around for a table lamp switch. Rooms show window balcony's- doors do not open to balcony- just a dirty glass window. King size bed had a massive dent in the center as if someone large has been sleeping in the spot for the last ten years that you just keep rolling into all night. Underneath bed had, Empty soda bottles, candy wrappers and a cigarette pack. Floor in room was sticky, as if something sugary was spilled. Bathroom had - very torn shower curtain. When waking up to start the day, there was ZERO hot water coming from shower, sink had hot water but shower felt like it was coming from a freezer. Had to wait an hour because "the hot water is out block-wide" which I guess doesn't mean in the sinks???? Update.. two stars because the hotel employees at the desk were very friendly and accommodating, none wearing any masks though (there is a pandemic right?)

Yelp
Okay, don't let the pictures fool you. This hotel is basically a Motel 6 but with contemporary decor. Parking is $10, there's mold in the bathrooms, no continental breakfast, and no hair dryers in bathroom. Their complimentary bathroom toiletries (mini shampoos & body wash, etc) are nice. You have to order food if you want a drink at the bar but I suggest the chips & onion dip. Only $3, nice little snack and the dip is delicious. The front desk/check in area is literally a little pop up desk from Ikea or something. Really random. Ok place to stop for a night but only because we got special member pricing on Expedia. Wouldn't have paid their standard room rate. It's nothing special.

Yelp
Not sure why there are so many low reviews!! My shower was clean. Room was nice. Big TV. LOVED the toiletries actually. I stayed over on a Friday and there was a live musician in the lobby. Seems like there are rotating artists frequently on a monthly basis. The staff was super friendly. I'd stay here again for sure!!

Cathy C.

Yelp
The staff was polite, however if you like multiple pubes in your shower, and a bathroom that smells like piss this is your room! It has a variety of kinky curly pubes to choose from. There was along scraggly hair in my bed when I peeled back the sheets, I slept in the next bed which seemed ok... floor looked dirty, and the room surely didn't smell clean. I was grossed out even putting the phone receiver to my ear...I also wore my chanclas in the shower and still felt "dirty" after my shower. Hate to leave a negative review but I feel jipped for paying $117 to stay in that shithole. The lobby was modern and hip, but as soon as you get off the elevator on to your floor the real nightmare begins. Enjoy

Yelp
I give this 2 stars because the bed and pillows were very comfortable, the coffee was good and the bathroom products were very nice. The cleanliness and lack of service to the room however made me concerned however. The rug obviously hadn't been vacuumed since before I got there because there was a twist-tie on the floor that I didn't bring with me and remained my three days stay. The bed wasn't made, trash not discarded, I called twice to have a new iron brought up since the first one broke while ironing. Coffee cups and creamer not replaced. Shower drain needed to be snaked which they did upon request and two lights were pour in the bathroom. Anyone with attention to the slightest detail would have noticed the lights and the slow moving drain, if they were cleaning the bathroom, that is. My last morning the housekeeping pounded on the door once and tried to enter, at 8:30a?!?! If I hadn't had the lock on the door they would have caught me undressed. I love boutique hotels but this one made me worry about what hadn't been cleaned before I got there.

Yelp
Not the greatest of hotels. Just "decent" but not much better than that. The room is OK, but it's obvious the building is very old and has just had a lot of cosmetic updates, but not a lot of structural updates. Our marble sink is slowly "leaving the wall". It's all pretty old and dated, with pretty decorations as a band aid. But our big gripe is the staff. Just utterly indifferent. No welcome, just "credit card and ID please". No chat - no interest. We went to print boarding passes for our flight tomorrow, and the "Business Center" printer was out of paper. After finally finding someone to help, the person just pulled a ream of paper out of the cupboard and handed it to my wife! So she had to go back to the laser printer and load the paper herself. Nice. Some customer service, eh? Note: Many sites say they have two restaurants. NO!! They have a tiny bar and restaurant, with an area for breakfast that they will open if the bar gets packed. But tonight that wasn't the case and it was closed. They have a limited menu. OK prices but nothing super amazing on the menu. There are tons of restaurants in town. Remember: It's SLC and the "Blue Laws" still require you to order food if you want a beer. Be prepared to find something on the menu even if you're not hungry. It's "an OK" hotel - but "Meh - I've experienced better

Yelp
Go here for the food. No, seriously. The food is amazing. Candied bacon, loaded tots, grilled cheese... the best guilty pleasures. But if you're staying in the rooms, be prepared for cracked, stained, old showers. No bathroom fan. Door to bathroom can't open a full 90 degrees because it hits the shower rod. I have my heater up to 81 and it's about 72 in here after a full day of heating. For the price, I'm not too bothered by it. The food is worth it to me. But I do feel mislead by the photos on their website.

Yelp
I have stayed here once a year for many years now and am impressed at its renovation. Very modern and welcoming. The front desk staff is awesome. So helpful and always smiling. Hotel shuttle service is fantastic. Great location for exploring downtown. I love the shampoo/conditioner/ lotion. Imma keep them! The new coffee breakfast bar is great. I ordered the oatmeal. The server was very friendly but he was the only one there in the entire restaurant, perhaps another server would be beneficial. Now, the one thing that just kills me is the pillows in the room. They are so puffy and big that you need to sleep on your side or with no pillow at all. I had a very difficult time sleeping and my neck is killing me. Ok need to get to a massage....ugh

Yelp
I am rooting for this hotel to succeed. There are so many bursts of creativity that deserve recognition. Unfortunately lack of cleanliness and proper maintenance upkeep puts a damper on the fun. The devil is in the details! The lobby is fun and inventive, although the front desk is a little underwhelming. It needs more authority. I hope they invest in a more professional desk. The resy of the lobby is very original. It is cozy, fun, and professional at the same time. The restaurants are clean, have a kind of industrial kitchen look, and the tomato bisque is delicious. The hallways are kind of dark and have very low ceilings. Not great for tall people. The beds are great. Super comfortable mattress, soft pillows, clean sheets. A little squeaky, but I think the walls are thick enough that the neighbors won't hear. The bedskirt is really off center and unappealingly droopy. The art on the walls is original and has a great Utah vibe. Our room was adorned with a cool clock made from a slab of tree trunk. A beautiful black and white mountain scenery stretched across the entire wall behind our bed. Gorgeous! The shower didn't work when we got here, so we called down to the front desk. They told us they would call us back after speaking to maintenance. Nobody ever called, so we called down again after three hours, and they finally sent someone up. Unfortunately, this meant I was not able to shower before the meeting I had. That is a huge disappointment. Had this unfortunate incident been avoided, I would be giving a four star rating. Later when I was able to shower, I noticed the shower curtain was torn pretty significantly, there were stains on the shower curtain, and the towel I used had a long black hair. I have blonde curly hair When I came back from my meeting, the air conditioner had spewed water on the coffee area and floor. This is a hotel I would come back to. I hope that when I return, the maintenance and cleanliness issues will be given more attention.

Yelp
While the hotel is aesthetically pleasing for the most part, as they just finished renovating the lobby, which I love; there were a few concerns I had while staying here. When I left the lobby and headed to my floor I was surprised to find the hallways lacking. Bare, white walls with no artwork and horrible carpet. My immediate thought was that my room would look the same. I can only assume and hope they are going to update the hallways at some point. I was pleasantly surprised to find a modern, updated room that was comfortable and inviting. There were "fake" but pleasing to look at hardwood floors and a mountain mural behind my bed. The curtains needed updating like the hallway carpet but the king sized bed was extremely comfortable. The molding around my door was coming up pretty badly on one side, I couldn't get internet access in my room unless I stood by the door, the coffee pot is for multiple cups (not single serve), which is ultimately just a personal preference for me, I also didn't have an iron in my room and had to call and request one. The ironing board screeches like a banshee is coming after you and I'll be a son of a monkey if the iron wasn't so shoddy it scorched my work shirt. Despite a few minor details the only major complaint I have was the Internet not working properly. I would recommend this hotel if you are staying in the area. The staff has been super friendly and helpful.

Yelp
This is the kind of hotel you thoroughly check for bedbugs at. It's a very old, outdated hotel. It smells and is dirty. The carpet is disgusting in the hallways and in the rooms. I smell cigarettes through out the bottom floor. Not great at all. Upon checking in, the host/hostess checks you in at a makeshift front desk. Not professional. I would choose another hotel if possible. Next time I will not be staying here.

Yelp
We stayed at this hotel last Thursday (12/13/18) night after a concert and luckily we only stayed one night. Be aware of the front desk transferring random calls to your room at 7:30 am. The front desk person which was a woman transferred a call to our room without asking the caller to identify who they wanted to speak with. Long story short... it was a scammer calling posing as a front desk manager and asking for our credit card number. We did not provide the caller which was a woman with a thick southern accent our credit card information and reported the situation to the front desk. The woman at the front desk admitted to transferring a random caller to our room, but didn't seem to be really concerned about the big mistake she had just made. Therefore, we will never stay here again. Also, this hotel needs to be renovated because the pictures are not even close to what this place really looks like.

Karen B.

Yelp
It's better than a motel, but less than a La Quinta Inn. This hotel is downtown, so it's got a "city feel" (including security guards). It's dog friendly, which is mostly why we stayed here- it was a fine hotel if you need a place to rest your head. I guess I'd say I feel pretty neutral about it. For $100 in they city- it is what it's worth. It would have been nice if they had some doggie bag dispensers outside. We brought our own bags, but clearly other people didn't because there was dog poop all over the grass. Oh well!

Yelp
I've only stayed at this particular Red Lion one other time last year and it was ok. I like Red Lions because of their soft beds and pillows so I may be biased. :) The new renovations look amazing! They made it where it would comfortable to lounge around in the Restaurant or common area (included cards and board games in the room). I always appreciate a room that has a fridge and a microwave already in the room. I travel for a living so I often bring my own food. The gym is ok. A couple of treadmills, ellipticals, a couple other machines, and free weights. I didn't prepare food on this trip so I did go down to the restaurant. Had an oatmeal in the morning... it was a huge portion included bananas and strawberries. I had "the meltdown" for lunch which was grilled cheese and tomato bisque. The bisque was ok but the grilled cheese was amazing! This is a good hotel with a good restaurant and good staff.
