Hotel Romantischer Winkel - RoLigio® & Wellness Resort

I have never said this about a hotel stay before, and we have been on five continents. "PERFECTION", yes, really, in every aspect of our stay. You name the category, and it was all beyond our very high expectations at a very reasonable price for how we stayed in a suite package. |We also liked the overall layout, decor and dress for it's authentic 'german-ness'. This may sound strange, but for those of you who abhor and understand some of the fake-ness that pollutes many venues. This hotel, its staff and its owners understand and deliver a relaxing authenticity not often found. Diners in shorts and T-shirt, my retirement uniform, were abundant along with whatever else the very upscale guests wanted to wear. We met a number of very interesting people, many who had been coming to this jewel in the South Harz for many years again and again. This fact is it's own statement of quality. Well done and run Nora and Josef Oelkers and Staff. We will be back as soon as possible.

The fire alarm rang for no reason during the late evening. Out of 3 saunas, 2 were out of order and the last one understandably a bit crowded. Breakfast buffet was however really good.

Have just spent 4 incredible nights here. Our room had a panoramic view of the frozen lake and snowy hills. The spa is one of the best I have visited, ever. Spacious, plenty of rooms and therapies (with no added extras for almost all) and even the sauna area had over 10 different rooms to use. Note the sauna area is ‘textile free’ and nudity is the norm but if you are conservative you can use a towel to cover up. As for meals, a local gentleman informed me that this hotel has the best food in town and he wasn’t wrong! The chefs are truly top rate and even items that I don’t usually enjoy e.g quinoa, were delicious. I ate so many foods I would not usually touch because I knew they would have prepared them with incredible flavour. Silver service throughout and the staff are so sincere, warm and friendly. Stephan, the restaurant manager is the perfect person for that role and his fantastic team included Alfarid, Francesco, Sophie and Audrey who served us so well. The menu changes daily for lunch and dinner and we were spoilt at 3pm with afternoon tea/coffee and cakes! This is all included and only dinner is optional but I would strongly advised adding it to your stay! Full board is definitely the way to go here. Breakfast was the best I have had in any European hotel, ever….by far! I could write a whole essay on it but for e.g. there were probably 8 variations of museli on offer, fresh ginger juice shots and a waffle maker! It’s mostly adults but when kids are at the hotel they put a whole different section of food choices on to meet their needs. This is clearly run by a caring and considerate owner (actually a family which makes sense). I must say this hotel has thought of the little things which many hotels do not and that really does enhance the stay. Gowns have badges with your room number so you know whose is whose. At dining there are useful side tables to put things on, etc etc etc. I will end here but if we were to return to this beautiful place in nature, we would not hesitate to stay here.

We were staying in Bad Sachsa but not in the hotel. We thought this place is highly recommended so lets go there for dinner. This turned out to be a disappointing experience. First of all, when we came in with dripping coats and umbrellas we were just brought to our table, and we had to chase down staff so they could put them away in the cloakroom. Clearly not an issue with hotel guests. Next surprise was the very limited menu. There are 3 main dishes on the menu (hopefully a daily rotating one) and they have one soup of the day and one appetizer. Prices were not shown or mentioned. We were informed we had to pick the main dish and could get the soup and appetizer from the the buffet (again, there we no other choices). As we didn't like the 3 main dishes offered we learned they could also serve us a rumpsteak. No prices were mentioned (nor did I ask). We ordered a 34 euro bottle of wine to go with the steaks. When the waiter retuned she mentioned they did no longer had this wine but they had a good alternative, again no prices were mentioned (nor did I ask), but when we got the bill at the end this "good (for them) alternative" was with 58 euros almost double the price... The food was good and if you are a hotel guest staying for a number of days the very limited choice is of course no concern, but if you go there as a guest only for dinner this is weird. What also struck us as weird is that for some guest the waiter offered to get the items from the buffet, but this was not offered to everybody and most certainly it was not offered to us. We noticed that even some hotel guests were looking at this with surprise. The real surprise for us came when we were offered the bill. The rumpsteaks which were fine but not great and were 34 euros each, as mentioned above the wine turned out to be 58 euros, 4 euros for the water and 32 euros in total for the soup, appetizer and deserts coming to a total of 162 euros. Again the food was good but the overall experience, available choices and price-value are totally off. This was for me the 3rd night in a row I went for dinner with my wife, the first night we spent 400 euros and the food, drinks and service were fabulous, the second night we had dinner in Bad Sachsa for 70 euros and the food was good. This third night was the first one where i really did not get value for the price paid, so unless you are a hotel guest, don't go there for dinner.

After a warm welcome we were taken to our rooms, very nice, spacious with a lovely bathroom. All staff are very friendly and helpful, from front desk to restaurant to spa. Used all facilities the hotel has to offer and spent 3 wonderful days. Food is nice and the bar tender is a very nice, funny guy which makes for a happy end to a relaxing day. While we spend most of our time in the hotel there are many options for walks too. This was our experience last year and going again very soon!!

I stayed for 4 days with my girlfriend to relax. Very personal welcoming, staff takes their time to show you around. Big and very clean wellness area. At dinner, owner himself went to every table (certainly about 50-70 tables) to ask if the guests were satisfied and happy. At leave, we forgot sth in the room, staff sent it out to us via post one day later. Food was great as well. We are very happy and will come back.

This hotel is not for the 10 countries in 7 days traveler but rather the destination explorer. We spent 4 days in the Harz mountains seeing local sights, hiking, exploring and just enjoying a part of Germany that none of us had been to. The hotel staff is A+. Incredibly helpful, courteous and kind [we are non German speakers ]. The pool was delightful and refreshing - we were in a 94 degree heat wave. We are al Fresco each night and the meals were prepared by a great chef.||The spa was world class with multiple steam rooms, showers and different relaxation rooms. I snuck in a 7 essential oil massage and was basically relaxed into a long nap!!!||In all this hotel is a hidden gem that most tourists don’t know about. They have a 73% return guest rate (I sat and had a schnapps with the owner) and is family owned (second generation). It’s a great stopping point on your way to Berlin.||Thank you so much Oelkers family for opening your hotel to us!

Great stay, amazing accommodation and outstanding level of services. I would like to warmly thank Antje for enabling an amazing stay to my baby Paul (4 months) and myself. I thought it might be not entirely convenient due to the age of the baby, but everything has been set to have a very comfortable stay despite his young age. I have also appreciated the different pools, the different chilling areas ensuring privacy. Finally the amazing and smilly personal everywhere did not get unnoticed. Thumbs up.
