Hotel Rural La Tronera

WE HAD A WONDERFUL 2 NIGHT STAY IN LA TRONERA. WE DID DAY TRIPS TO LITTLE TOWNS IN THE AREA AND DID A LONG HIKE IN LAS MEDULAS PARK. THERESA AND MIGUEL WERE GREAT HOSTS . LIKE HOME AWAY FROM HOME. IF YOU EVER TRAVEL TO NORTH SPAIN AND WANT TO STOP IN THE COUNTRY SIDE , THIS OPTION IS SUPER!

La Tronera was the most expensive hotel of our two week trip through northern Portugal and Spain, and it was a long way from the best. It is really a restaurant with rooms; ours was cramped and poorly furnished, with a dimly-lit bathroom. The bed was not particularly comfortable, the WiFi was weak, and altogether, the hotel part of the deal did not match the high price tag – this is rural Spain, after all. In the restaurant, the owner/chef is clearly more at home: he offers a Menu Degustación, very decent value at 30€ including a good bottle of a young Bierzo red wine. The following night we ate a la carte: my wife’s bacalao with Bierzo peppers was ordinary, my slow-cooked baby lamb was reheated and dry. One starter, two main courses, wine and water came to 65€. We had been waiting to try La Tronera ever since it was highly recommended by some local people a couple of years ago now, and it did not live up to our expectations. Which is a shame, because the owner and his wife are welcoming and helpful – perhaps it was just one of those weekends.

La Tronera was a wonderful surprise, a great hotel in a delightful village. Good accommodation, excellent food, and charming and attentive service - homely but not intrusive, very willing to help - drive you to the river swimming place, show you the best village walks. A wonderful weekend made special by La Tronera.

Beautiful hotel ran by beautiful family

Hoy hemos probado el menú degustación, no hay un pero para ponerle, fue perfecto! Ellos ya hacen que la experiencia sea perfecta. La atención ,información y cercanía que dan son un lujo, igual que sus platos. Un Sitio para repetir !!

Solo fuimos al restaurantes. Tomamos el menú degustación y quedamos muy contentos. Yo pedí tambien maridaje aunque el pequeño y solo de tintos. El trato, el sitio, la comida, todo de diez. Repetiremos

Negocio berciano familiar multipremiado, padre e hija en cocina, madre jefa de sala e hijo sumiller. Con una bodega cada vez más creciente y selecta, unas 300 referencias de vino (muchas de ellas lo mejor del Bierzo) y un menú degustación cambiante y desconocido hasta entrar en comedor, con filosofía local (huerta propia en Corullón), de temporada, y de aprovechamiento. 6 entrantes, destaco el panipuri con escabeche de níscalos y 3 de ellos marinos; salmorejo para cambio de tercio; 3 pases más : ensalada, socarrat y ravioli; y 3 postres. Interesante la diversa oferta de maridajes, algunos bercianos, otro del viejo mundo, alguno especial para sumilleres… con precios y número de vinos variados, servidos con Coravin. La sala, contigua a cocina, bien dotada, es muy luminosa con grandes ventanales a un breve pasillo verde. Me gustó la disposición de todos los cubiertos en mesa para ser usados a conveniencia del comensal. Un hurra por la apuesta por la presencia de la gran cantidad de buenos productos bercianos!!
