Hotel Sacher Salzburg

"At this 1866 grande dame on the Salzach River, almost every room has a view of the Old Town and fortress, while inside the focus is on oil paintings, Austrian antiques, and Oriental rugs. The glass-roofed lobby is the hotel’s centerpiece. "Despite the small rooms and dated decor, I choose to stay here again and again. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and always happy to help." Roter Salon serves regional and international cuisine, while Café Sacher dishes up its signature chocolate torte. Zirbelzimmer, with dark wood and hunting memorabilia, is meat-heavy, with such dishes as ox fillet and beef consommé."

Yes, it’s expensive. More importantly, it’s totally worth it! I stayed with my mother a couple weeks ago and we were both very much impressed. Everyone who worked there was simply lovely; from the bellman to the management. We stayed three nights and honestly didn’t have a single complaint. It’s not worthy to mention that we are not strangers to splurging on fine hotels, so we expect a certain level of service. They met every expectation. The breakfast room is so charming and we’ve really enjoyed everything from the pastries to the selection of sausages. The Viennese coffee rules. This hotel is home of the famous Sacher cake, so it’s worth a try if you are a chocolate fan! I think my favorite thing about the hotel, other than the service, was how it was appointed. The artwork is just stunning… There were probably five paintings that I would have made offers on, if only I were able to afford them!

We came to celebrate my mother's birthday in Austria and whilst we had a few issues to start with, our experience was incredibly positive when we spoke to Bastian at concierge who not only delivered a 5 star service but also ensured my mother was very well looked after during the stay. ||||The quality of service at the Grill is exceptional and the flavours of the 4 course meal prepared by the chef are outstanding. We partially enjoyed the seasonal asparagus and hollandaise sauce. ||||The buffet breakfast is top quality and the smiley, hardworking and positive waitresses could not have made our experience any more excellent. The omlette and range of options from the menu were outstanding. French toast and sacher torte are a must try! Overlooking the river the views are tranquil. ||||Housekeeping did an excellent job at ensuring our amenities were stocked up. Including a free minibar. We were grateful for the kind gesture made by Bastian when he kindly sent my mother some sweets and treats to her room. It made her feel very special. ||||Overall we had an excellent experience and are leaving the hotel on a positive note with fond memories with special thanks to Bastian who is an exceptional professional and asset to Sacher Hotel. Thank you again for your hospitality.

We simply cannot offer enough accolades to this hotel! The moment we arrived at the reception desk, we were warmly welcomed by the delightful staff. Flora and Sahara assured us we had a lovely room to celebrate our anniversary. As we were escorted to our accommodations, we were delighted to discover the rosebuds adorning the heart shaped duvet, a vase of blooming roses, the Sacher torte wishing a Happy 47th Anniversary, and a table set with fruit and treats! As we stepped out onto the balcony to admire the sights of Salzburg, we felt we were in a fairytale! The warm burgundy toile decor added to the charm. As this was our first visit, we appreciated all the recommendations by Michael, your fabulous concierge. Michael assisted us with securing reservations for the Panorama Sound of Music tour and we were even picked up at the hotel and driven the short distance to the meeting spot. He also secured reservations for the Mozart concert at Mirabellplatz, an amazing experience, as well post-concert cocktails reservations in the cozy lobby bar. Breakfast was a bountiful buffet in the pleasant dining room and Larissa was our excellent waitress. As we passed by the reception desk one evening, I inquired as to where I might be able to purchase the fragrant body lotion to take home. Florentina immediately said she would send a travel size bottle to us to carry back to Texas with us. We were constantly impressed by the outstanding staff. Hotel Sacher will always live in our memories as a magical stay!

Our 7 night stay at Sacher Salzburg was nothing short of perfection!!!|From the moment we arrived to the bittersweet moment we left… everything was just amazing!|It’s not just a hotel… it feels like you are at a friends estate.|Everyone knows your name and your likes and dislikes. ||Every single employee we interacted with went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable, happy and content.|I really wish I could remember everyone’s name, because every single person made our stay so special!||There were so many people we interacted with. From housekeeping to valet to front desk to concierge. Each and everyone was so polite and kind and full of great tips and advice for Salzburg. |Shoutout to Martha, Flora, Nick, and Michael. Their kindness will NOT be forgotten.||It’s very rare to stay at a hotel for 7 whole nights and not encounter an employee that was less than helpful. Not one!|Bravo to management!|Every 5 star hotel should take note and learn from Hotel Sacher.||Also the food and service at every one of their restaurants was exceptional.|Breakfast was fit for royalty and all the servers remembered our orders by heart.||The hotel itself was clean, comfortable, and beautifully maintained. But honestly it was the people who made it exceptional. We left feeling refreshed, and dreaming of our return. Thank you all for making us feel so cared for.|The worst part of our stay was the leaving!

We visited the Sacher Hotel Café to try the famous Sacher cake and enjoy some coffee. The staff were welcoming, and the atmosphere was wonderful. The Sacher cake was delicious, and the coffee was equally enjoyable. We look forward to returning when the weather is colder.

A beautiful hotel ideally located in Salzburg. Service was exceptional and the staff was always available for any request. Rooms were elegant in the Sacher tradition. Breakfast offered so many choices and seemed endless. The terrace restaurant was wonderful and relaxed as one enjoyed the river view. Dinner in the Zirbelzimmer restaurant was always creative and a perfect display of showmanship. Ursula was always so helpful in the mornings in the restaurant, and Philip was such a pleasure in the evenings in the Zirbelzimmer. An exceptional Sacher Hotel.

If you are looking for an amazing, luxury hotel in Salzburg, the Sacher is it. Beautifully appointed rooms and lobby, wonderful restaurants and bar overlooking the river, castle, and old town. The staff were so attentive, friendly, and professional. A special thank you to Philipp and Ursula on making our stay and dining experiences so memorable. We can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Incredible pastries & a beautiful dining room make tea at the Hotel Sacher an essential stop on anybody's visit to Salzburg! First off, you have to try the Sacher Torte - it was easily the best cake I've ever had! It was so moist and decadent without being overly rich or heavy, and the unsweetened whipped cream paired so well with it. We also tried the kaiserschmarrn and enjoyed it as well. Prior to this visit, I'd gone here with my mother and enjoyed their big pastry tower - it was a LOT of sweets and while we liked it, I think I'd recommend just getting some plates of desserts and splitting them instead! I'd recommend a reservation as it does get pretty full & the service can be a bit slow so definitely take that into account if you're planning anything afterwards! Overall though, this is definitely a "must visit" in Salzburg!

Yelp
Hotel Sacher Salzburg has incredible Sacher torte. The hotel is located in the heart of Salzburg.

Yelp
Nice room, but very small. Zero English speaking television and we're not snobs but it seems odd that in a country where everyone speaks English only CNN (not even old reruns of CSI) can be had in English We ordered room service and it never came. We called and they said to call back and we did and they still didn't have our order. By then it was too late to go anywhere else, so we ended up in their bar ordering the same order we ordered from room service? Service needs work.

Yelp
Such a great time in Salzburg, my fiancée lived there while studying abroad and this tea sitting was on the top of our list. Very well decorated and thoughtful menu, we of course had to go with the Sacher torte which is a staple and indulged in the best kaiserschmarrn we have ever had. Paired with a few glasses of wine it was a great way to spend an afternoon. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This hotel is so amazing! The rooms are just breathtaking and so spacious as well as modernly equipped. To start with, they immediately valet your vehicle at the front doorstep upon arrival. You're not only shown to your room but also given a brief tour to show you how to use all the amenities. They leave you with a delightful sampling of the world famous Sacher torte as a welcoming gift too! The room is so airy and spacious! I overlooked the bridge of locks and the Salzburg River. At night I opened my windows completely and drifted to sleep with the calming sounds of flowing water. The floor in the bathroom and the towel rack were both heated, there's also a large deep soaker tub to soothe your tired muscles after a long day. To top it off, they offer turn down service every night. If you're visiting Salzburg, this is definitely the place to stay.

Yelp
This review pertains solely to the Cafe as I did not stay in the hotel. The Cafe offers a genuine classy ambiance in carefully maintained surroundings. The staff is very friendly and professional. We had a selection of different food and drinks and all were outstanding, including the Hotel Sacher's original Sacher Torte. Highly recommended. P.S. if considering visiting the Vienna location of the Hotel Sacher, note that the Salzburg property appears to be of much better quality, ambiance and atmosphere. The Sacher Torte seems to taste better here in Salzburg as well.

Yelp
A beautiful legend of a hotel. In two consecutive Christmas stays at the Sacher Salzburg we have been treated incredibly well and experienced exceptional service. The rooms are beautiful. The views are unsurpassed and the food, remarkably good. While the Sacher Torte is famous, the hotel restaurants are even better and the bar, exceptional. You have never had a Moscow Mule as good. If you are in Salzburg and somehow manage to get a room, you're in for a treat.

Yelp
We came here for the famous "original Sacher torte". I understand that there are a lot of positive reviews about the cake but I think it's ideal to decide yourself. Service is slow; restaurant is under-manned. Our server was responsible for probably 15 people at once; there were only 2 service in the cafe. Unlike in the states where any worker would ask if you need help, people will just look at you until you ask for help and since it's a German speaking country, most wouldn't bother trying to speak English. There were a handful of open tables while most were reserved; Chinas gave a European feel although tables cloths are worn out with tiny holes. At one point there was a bug (somewhat looked like a cockroach in the booth I unintentionally flicked next to a customer).. Oops. We spent had tea-time here & tried the cake-- friends, please be aware that this is not the U.S. Where cakes are mostly sweet, rich and creamy. As much as I like the dark chocolate frosting and & unsweetened whip cream, cake was dry. It's worth a try but it's nothing compared to "our" cakes. This is a tourist "must" being in Austria, a box to check but not something worth coming back to.

Yelp
From the moment we checked in, we have been spoiled! Wonderful staff. A shoutout to Marc in the dining area who has served us multiple times. He's attentive without hovering. The front desk woman who checked us in was also wonderful. I cannot for the life of me, remember her name. Wish we could stay longer but when we come back, there is no place else we will stay. Convenient to shopping and restaurants. Near the Maribell Gardens and a view of the river. Thank you for the hospitality! Edited to add that the woman at the front desk who helped us check in is Eva. Thank you Eva!!!

Yelp
Staying at the Hotel Sacher in Salzburg was truly a memorable and wonderful experience. Salzburg itself is a beautiful little city situated in the northern Alps very close to the German border with much history to explore. From the hotel, we were within walking distance to all the main events including the, "Salzburg" itself or Salt Castle, shopping, Mozart Platz the Salzach river and the Schloss Mirabell. The hotel has a gorgeous view of the bridge and is just off the main street. The building is beautifully decorated in an historical fashion and there are many paintings and artwork throughout the hotel and in the rooms. The service, was truly a five star experience! The receiving area is a perfect place to enjoy a drink and chat. There is a bar and lounge area as well where we enjoyed several cocktails that evening. We did not eat at the restaurant but it does have rave reviews. I stopped into the café before we left and bought some of their delicious coffee as a souvenir. The robes are worth a mention, they were the fluffiest robes ever and bonus, they are also for sale :) We enjoyed our stay here immensely and look forward to visiting Salzburg and Hotel Sacher again!

Yelp
We only came to the hotel to dine, but found it to be an exceptional example of Old World charm. From the doorman to the waitstaff, service was impeccable. I guess one would expect no less. We came quite early and were the only ones in the room...for a bit. Service was excellent. The food was so delicious and beautiful, our 13 year old grand daughter wanted a picture of her pasta dish sent to her brother. We were traveling for the first time with her and she wanted to be sure her brother knew she was fine dining. We had the traditional Wiener schnitzel..pretty good. A little over salted. The traditional meat dish served was so delicious. All the food and salads were top quality and very fresh. And, of course, we had a piece of Sacher torte. Delicious. Looking forward to another chance to stay at the hotel and to dine here again. It was a worthwhile stop.

Yelp
This is our 2nd time here at the Sacher. I don't recall it being so bad the 1st time. Well, bad isn't the right word. A lot of things were good. The room was beautiful. But, we had an early check in and upgrade, but the upgrade room wasn't ready. OK we ask how long? They say 10 minutes. 45 minutes later we go to our room, it was nice, we were tired and didnt care. Basically the front desk, although the staff were nice they were all over the place. House keeping was another problem. Slow and not very organized. The room was clean, though the glasses in the bathroom were dirty. I dont use them anyway, but yuck! Food was good at the buffet and grill, so no complaints there. Overall for the money not worth it.

Yelp
The Hotel Sacher is known for the Sacher Torte. Although the Sacher Wein is the star and where everything originated from, the Sacher Salzburg obviously also has the torte and it is divine (and the same as getting it at the Hotel Sacher in Vienna). The food and tea at the cafe are pretty good, traditional Austrian fare. However, the Sacher Torte is the star of the show, so save room for that. Four stars? Why? Because while the torte is fantastic, the food doesn't really add up to 5 stars.

Yelp
Outstanding service during our stay. One of the concierge's was particularly helpful throughout our stay, but honestly the entire staff, front desk staff, doormen, cleaning staff were all outstanding. Wonderful location just a bridge walk to the old town.
google avatar

Justin M.

Yelp
This hotel is truly a 5 stars hotel. All the staff speak English and super friendly. The room is also super cute with a beautiful view of the river. When you book make sure to tell them that you want to have a river view. We upgraded our room to the deluxe (highly recommended) and fell in love. The location of the hotel is also excellent. In the middle of everything. Highly recommended

Yelp
Great hotel and service One thing I have to say is that the WiFi isn't good. It is slow and doesn't meet the 2019 standards.
google avatar

L W.

Yelp
have written very few reviews, but feel compelled to do so since this was a disappointing experience for what is supposed to be a 5-star hotel. Our hotel stay was fine, but not impressive. There was a lot of construction that we weren't warned about and our rooms were tiny. However, the big disappointment came afterward. I left a pair of eyeglasses there and they did not send it expedited, tracked and insured as I had requested. The glasses have not arrived over 3 weeks later and I'm having to replace them. Multiple emails and messages to the hotel manager have gone unanswered. And, when I did reach a customer experience manager, he didn't take responsibility for this issue. We had four room nights and meals at this hotel for well over $2500. I would have hoped they would have stood behind their error in the shipping and given me the courtesy of a response from the hotel manager.

Yelp
Unparalleled in beauty and elegance, Hotel Sacher is the jewel of Salzburg in terms of accommodations. Sadly, I have never stayed there as countless famous opera singers, conductors, important dignitaries, undsoweiter, undsoweiter, undsoweiter as I was but a poor student living in Salzburg, but I have had the distinct pleasure of eating at the cafe both indoors and out, on several occasions. This is an experience not to be missed by any foreign traveler. I highly recommend, of course, their signature dessert, the Sacher Torte. A dark chocolate torte of unequaled yumminess topped with generous helping of Schlag (that's whipped cream!). I also recommend having this with some mineral water (mit oder ohne Gas) or it's difficult to finish such a rich dessert! (Sharing with a friend is absolutely encouraged if you're watching your weight.) The coffee is on par with their desserts, rich, authentic and expertly presented, and the service is attentive but not overwhelming. Seating outside provides a beautiful view of the Salzach!

Tim H.

Yelp
This hotel, had a LOUd, prolonged noise above us for several hours after 12am. A drilling/ machinery noise, so it was not other guests. Someone from the front desk came, acknowledged/ knew about) it, but did not do anything. They said it came from the "kitchen." They offered zero compensations until we complained heavily. Shower cold/hot pressure is not stabilized at all (It is possible to do this with modern plumbing). I stayed in another 5 star hotel owned by them in Vienna and had the same water problem. I read the history, I believe this hotel under a different name and purchased by Sacher hotels. Because famous people stayed here in the past doesn't mean much for today's experience. This hotel shouldn't be considered 5 stars and charge much if quality of experience is this low. There was no warning or notice when we checked in.
google avatar

Yelp
Austria's cake god is the Sacher Torte. And this is their god's birthplace: Hotel Sacher. Franz Sacher concieved the very first sachertorte when he was just a chef's apprentice. Since the powerful "coachman of Europe," Wenzel Clemens Prince Metternich, didn't want to look like a fool in front of his high-ranking guests, he made sure the young chef didn't screw up on the pastry. Franz Sacher didn't disappoint, and now you may order the most famous two layers of chocolate, one layer of apricot jam and one layer of chocolate icing ever created here.
google avatar

Lars W.

Yelp
The cafe is of course world class. The Sacher Torte is world famous. Try also their other cakes. The Esterhazy Schnitte is out of this world as well.
google avatar

Yelp
A Classic 'grande dame', thaïs hôtel has All The Old world charm and typical Austrian level of service combined with the amenities of a modern hotel. Excellent restaurants and uniquely located right across from the old city makes this one a definite winner.

Yelp
My Aunt and I stayed here for 4 nights and were very impressed with the hotel, the food, and the service. We had a beautiful room with a fabulous view and received treats each night of our stay (chocolates, cake, fruit, and a Christmas stocking of treats). The staff, from the front desk, bell hop, to the maid and evening turndown service were very friendly and provided excellent service. The location is ideal for sightseeing and shopping. I highly recommend the Hotel Sacher.

Charlane B.

Yelp
Nice hotel in a perfect location. We had a standard room and it was small but very comfortable and beautifully decorated. The bed was very comfortable and the linens were fabulous! I think the lobby could use an update like the rooms. Definitely enjoy a cocktail on the patio over looking the river. The bar staff are some of the best servers I've ever had. I hope I get to stay in this hotel again someday!

Yelp
We had our first meal in Salzburg here and it was wonderful! The food and the service were great and the view was just as awesome. We really enjoy the food, desserts, drinks and people watching.

Yelp
Kaiser Schmarrn. It's like pan baked funnel cake without the cheezy carnival feel.

Osman S.

Yelp
This is actually a review of Zirbelzimmer, the fine dining restaurant at Hotel Sacher Salzburg. First let me thank Simon for the fantastic service he provided. We were celebrating a surprise birthday dinner and Simon helped me execute it to perfection. The food, presentation, service and the whole experience was fantastic. I highly suggest this restaurant if you're in Salzburg.

Customer Service R.

Yelp
Fantastic! Had the apple strudel and capaccino. The best in Austria. I was referred to the Sacher in Vienna and did not have a chance to go. I was excited to hear they had one in Salzburg on my three day stay, that was the first place I went and it did not disappoint. Loved every delicious moment. Not just a dessert and coffee/tea caffe, they serve full lunch and dinner meals. Yum!

T L.

Yelp
I'm shocked that they receive 4.5 stars. This is far from a 5-star experience and barely in the range of 4-star at best. Our experience was a solid 2 stars, and I'm only giving this because the staff was very friendly, even if generally not very attentive/competent. The service in the restaurant was extremely slow. The food is good, not great. The room was abysmal. Shower flooded the bathroom every time. There was no real updating that they had claimed to have performed. Phones didn't work. TV remote occasionally worked. Room is TINY despite being an upgrade room, supposedly. Carpets worn out. Worst hotel of my last 3 stays in Europe. There are definitely much better options in Salzburg- my family was fortunate to stay at the other places. Do yourself a favor and don't stay here. Come by for their torte, and make your home elsewhere.

Patrick W.

Yelp
I have stayed here four or five times now and would not even consider another hotel. Staff is traditionally trained and very professional. Try and book a junior suite or above if you can and request the river side of the hotel. Great views and perfect location for visiting the city. Very traditional, classic bar downstairs that I highly recommend you visit also.

Roxanne C.

Yelp
We loved this hotel! It was so comfortable. The decor is lovely. An elegant, sophisticated, older hotel. Location is terrific too. Breakfast yummy (especially the hot cocoa). Only problem was the service in the restaurant.
