Hotel St Moritz, Queenstown (Queenstown, South Island) 5 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Visitors to New Zealand might find themselves (understandably) eager to get out of town and into the wild — the success of the small-lodge phenomenon is proof of that. But Queenstown is no ordinary town. It may feel urban by comparison with the rest of New Zealand, but its location on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, surrounded by mountain peaks, makes it a four-season adventure destination. Which probably has something to do with why the Hotel St. Moritz feels like equal parts alpine lodge and city boutique." - Tablet Hotels

Hotel St Moritz Queenstown | Best places to stay in New Zealand

"Ignoring the faux alpine design, Hotel St. Moritz offers just about everything the outdoorsy visitor to Queenstown could want: stylish, comfortable rooms, a great location and enthusiastic staff. The hotel is set up for skiers, with its own specialist storage facilities, and the hotel’s elevation means fantastic views of Lake Wakitipu – but it does mean a walk up the hill to the hotel from the town below. There’s a good choice of room types – from standard guest rooms to two-bedroom apartments – and a full complement of bars and restaurants. It’s a few minutes’ walk from the centre of Queenstown – so the ideal base for exploring everything Queenstown has to offer. " - Mark Chipperfield

Just back from a fantastic holiday in the South Island. We were meant to be staying for two nights in Queenstown at Hotel St Moritz but an avalanche on the road to Milford Sound changed our plans. The staff were really helpful in arranging our extra night so we didn't have to change rooms. All the staff were lovely. Very helpful when we asked but not in your face all the time. The bar/restaurant is a wonderful space with big comfy chairs and tables at the window to allow you to take in the spectacular views. Breakfasts were good and we had one evening meal in the restaurant which was excellent. The room was clean and tidy with good space in the bathroom. Everything you need when you're staying somewhere so beautiful with a lovely view of the lake. I highly recommend the hotel and I'll definitely be booking again; we're planning our next trip already. We hired a car at the airport and booking parking before hand is recommended.

As Accor members and travel agents, we’ve come to appreciate the little touches that make a hotel stay memorable — and being part of the MGallery Collection, we were hopeful this property would truly stand out. In many ways, it has. Location & Atmosphere The location is ideal — right near the CBD with an easy, short walk in. Don’t be put off by the mention of a hill; it’s barely noticeable. The hotel itself is a beautiful blend of cosy, warm, and unique. It strikes a balance between boutique charm and polished professionalism. Service & Rooms Reception staff have been absolutely fantastic — warm, attentive, and efficient. Room attendants deserve a special mention for their thoughtful, personalised notes wishing us a great day, along with two turn-down services per day. It’s these small, personal details that elevate the experience and reflect true hospitality, reception staff take the time to ask how our stay and holiday is going which is also nice Dining Experience This has been a mixed bag. First Night: After dining out, we returned to the restaurant for dessert and hot chocolate. Unfortunately, we waited 45 minutes for a single dessert, and the hot chocolate arrived cold. Breakfast: Day one breakfast was exceptional, delivered with warmth and care. Day two, however, felt like we were interrupting a staff conversation. When we asked about ordering eggs, we were curtly told to “fill out the form yourself,” in contrast to the welcoming service the previous morning. Dinner Service Due to bad weather, we opted to dine in. Upon arrival (around 6:10pm with only 12 guests seated), we were asked if we had a reservation. We were then seated right next to the noisy kitchen — not ideal, especially as I have a hearing condition. The noise, along with staff standing and chatting behind us, made the experience less than pleasant. Staff appearance also felt a bit unpolished for a hotel of this calibre, we even had to write down our accor plus# it was too much for the guy to do it as he turned and started talking to another guest. That said, the food was outstanding — full credit to the chefs for delivering on taste and quality. Valet Parking Van be messy and disorganised most time we had to find the valet staff for assistance with getting our vehicle but the hotel carpark was very busy. Final Thoughts Overall, this hotel delivers excellent value, especially in terms of location, room quality, and personalised guest touches. While the dining service could use some refinement, we’d still highly recommend this hotel as a place to stay — especially for fellow Accor members and travel clients looking for charm and comfort in the heart of the city.

Everything about this hotel was wonderful during our 8 day stay. The hotel itself is stunning with a cosy, warm, ski-lodge vibe. The staff are friendly, welcoming and really helpful. The buffet breakfast was excellent, everything you could want including good coffee and made to order eggs and pancakes. There is a gym, and a guest laundry and the hotel will even help you with coins and cash (charged to your room) if you don't have any. Although there is no pool, there are two outdoor hot tubs to relax in. Our room was lovely and felt large enough for our stay, nice furnishings, comfortable bed, and all the basic amenities such as fridge, kettle, coffee/teas and the view from our little balcony was breathtaking! One extra thing that really impressed us was if you choose to not have your room made up (we certainly didn't need this done daily) they reward you with a $20 credit voucher to the restaurant/bar. I can't fault this hotel or it's team of employees, it was worth the cost and we would happily choose to stay here again when visiting Queenstown!

Google
We loved our stay at the St Moritz. The staff at check in were extremely friendly, offered a cup of warm apple cider, and provided recommendations for sites to see around town. The breakfast buffet is $40 per person and absolutely worth it, the food was phenomenal. The room was spacious with a comfortable bed. I booked a lake view room, and I was a bit disappointed with the slanted windows on the 6th floor. The windows were dirty, so pictures didn’t come out good. The slanted windows are part of the hotel design, so it doesn’t impact my experience. You need to walk up a fairly steep hill to get back to the hotel from town, but it’s in a quiet area and very easy walking distance to everything. Overall, I’d definitely stay here again and recommend this hotel to others

Our experience with the Hotel St Moritz in Queenstown started with an email prior to arrival, and the exceptional service continued throughout our stay. Reception, concierge, restaurant and housekeeping staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. We were fortunate to be upgraded and the room exceeded all our expectations. It's a great location and a short walk to the centre. The view of the lake and mountains was uninterrupted and was worth the walk up the rather steep hill at the end of the day. Will definitely stay there again if/when we get back to Queenstown.

Started off great with complementary welcome drink and concierge assisting us with the luggage but went down hill literally from there. Booked an Alpine Suite advertising views, balcony. Elevator took us down to a lower level into a room with glimpses of the lake over a building in front, an empty mini bar (had to ask for milk?) and a well worn dated suite. Heating was hit and miss, room service at 8.45am. Used DO NOT DISTURB for the remaining 3 of the 4 nights we stayed. On checking out was not even asked how our stay was. Paid for valet parking and was given the keys & told where the car was parked. The outdoor spa was a very sad looking, go to the Onsen. If you have any mobility issues this is not the hotel for you. Big steps down into the foyer from the entry and would be challenging for some getting into town on foot. Maybe good for a family with kids but not the 5 star they advertise. Lacked all the ritz from the Moritz.

Hotel St Moritz in Queenstown had beautiful views from our room — a real highlight each morning. The staff were incredibly helpful and made everything easy, from check-in to local tips. It’s a stylish, comfortable place that feels both relaxed and well run and made our honeymoon special. Excellent breakfast with a view too.

Loved it! We stayed in the one bedroom suite and had a small balcony with beautiful views of the mountains and lake. Spacious room, large bathroom with large bath. Kitchenette with microwave and toaster. Coffee pod machine but didn’t use it because I needed dairy free milk. Staff were friendly and helpful. Is about a 10 minute walk to the city centre but we liked the exercise. Might need good fitness level to walk up the hill back to the hotel. Filtered water throughout the hotel as well. They also have a small gym and heated hot tubs just outside on the side of the hotel

Yelp
This place was LOUD. Our room was awful and tiny for considering what we paid. We could literally touch the ceiling of our room. Our friend's room was double the size for same price. We tried to upgrade but they wanted to charge us $160/night yet online it was less than $50/night. We've been all over the country and all sorts of places. This was the top price/rated and by far the worst experience. Concierge was nonexistent. This place is crazy to have that high star of a rating. I truly do not like to write negative reviews unless warranted.

Yelp
We choose Hotel St. Mortez for it's location and breathe taking views of the lake. We were upgraded to a suite upon check in. Breakfast was cooked to order and offered everything you might want. Bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was a good size with a separate shower and soaking tub. Molton Brown toiletries was a nice touch. Check in and out was seemly. One thing to note, there is a hill back to the hotel from town. It's pretty short but will leave you winded. Everything you need for a luxury stay in Queenstown.

Yelp
The hotel is fabulous. Spectacular views of the lake and mountains from our "Juliette" balcony. As for the restaurant, don't waste your money on a mediocre (at best), expensive breakfast buffet. Too many great places to get breakfast just 5 minutes away.

Yelp
Unfortunately, our "lake view" room was quite underwhelming. LOCATION Very close to downtown restaurants and bars, however it sits up on a decent sized hill. So be aware if you have small children, abundant luggage or do not want to walk up/down a hill every time you want to go into town. We also had a tour bus unable to drop us off at our hotel since they could not fit in the driveway of the hotel. ROOM The hotel is clean and well designed, however during our stay (which was the beginning of our honeymoon in NZ) we had to move rooms halfway through since we wound up extending our stay. We started in the lake view room on the 3rd floor and moved to a garden view room on the 2nd floor, only to discover we had the same view: the back of a building with a partial view of the lake. RESTAURANT / BAR As others have mentioned, do not waste your money on the bar or restaurant. We had drinks during happy hour that were absolutely dreadful and the continental buffet was ~$32.00/ person for sparse fruit, yogurt and a few baked goods. SERVICE Again, very underwhelming. When we expressed our frustration with paying significantly more for a poor lakeview room, the receptionist apologized, but would not move our room. When we checked out, I mentioned our disappointment again about the view. I also mentioned we were surprised that we had turn down service for our lake view room but not for the garden view room. After I pushed the receptionist, he waived our credit card fee, and told us he would tell the manager about our concerns. It's been a week and we have not been contacted about any price adjustment. The cost of this hotel is not worth the experience. There are a myriad of other hotels in the area that offer more value than the Hotel St Moritz.

Yelp
What a spectacular hotel! The service was friendly and great, quick to resolved problems we had. The design is very glam but modern. Safe to say we didn't want to leave. Their breakfast room service (all we managed to eat there) was INCREDIBLE. If your plan is to walk into town it's a bit of a steep incline back up to the hotel but a little workout never killed anyone.

Yelp
Overall, very nice hotel and met my expectations for the price I paid. LOCATION: The hotel is perched up a hill along the beautiful Lake Wakatipu, and a 5-minute walk to the "heart" of Queenstown (the city center is very small, so don't expect too much). Because of the hill, some of the rooms have stunning views of the the lake (and some have less stunning garden views). Some people on TripAdvisor have complained about having to go up and down this hill though it's completely manageable ... so they even set up a shuttle that will take you to the city center! SERVICE: As you would expect in a high-quality hotel, the staff is very courteous and goes out of their way to help you. The valet and front desk agents were very helpful and stored our bags until our room was ready, then took them up for us without asking. AMBIENCE: Very nicely appointed lobby; fireplace and comfy chairs entice a lot of people to hang out in the evening and enjoy a glass of wine. There is also a nice restaurant / bar with a great view of the water. My only complaint here is that the bar seems to close quite early, so you can't enjoy the aforementioned glass of wine after 10 pm. ROOMS: First, the thing I look for is cleanliness, and I had no issues there. The sheets and towels were stark white, the bathroom was super clean, and the room had been well appointed. Our room was quite small and had a garden view, even though we told them we're on our honeymoon (I didn't take points off for this). TIPS: -- the hotel doesn't offer free parking, but you can park along the street on the hill fairly easily for free

Yelp
Best of Queenstown, our room/suite was equipped with kitchenette and washer-dryer. Wonderful bar and restaurant looks over the mountains and lake. Small but well equipped gym has one precore and also sauna. Unlimited though slow WIFI is a blessing in NZ. Short walk to EVERTHING.

Yelp
I was there mid-week for one night in the summer. It wasn't even hot outside but my room was so warm me and a friend felt like we would faint if we stayed inside. We opened the windows as far as we could and came back at 10pm. Still hot as could be. No answer at the front desk, and no answer again at midnight. In the morning they were rude and said "we are installing air con in the future" not sure how that helps the current customer base. Only stay here in the winter! Not worth the money, terrible customer service.

Yelp
Generous size rooms on the 4th floor with a view of the lake. Clean and accommodating!

Yelp
Our first stop in New Zealand was Queenstown. The hotel has no central A/c but this can be a mute issue as long as you stay on lower floors. Avoid 7th floor as this is the top floor and looks like an addition after the hotel was built. The ceilings in 7th floor are very low and it is extremely hot during summer months. The front desk was extremely uncooperative when we asked our rooms to be changed. It took threatening to move to Crowne Plaza for us to get another room. Subsequent days were lot more pleasant. If you have any issues with walking steep hills avoid this hotel. After a long day the walk can be quiet demanding. Breakfast was good and bar service was great. Gym is extremely small.

Yelp
We stayed one night in Spring (mid November). Great staff, classy place, and rooms are spacious with nice bathrooms. Serious draw back that really impacted my stay (and my overall rating) was their internet. Even though I only needed to scan through work emails for about 30 mins, it's so worthlessly slow that I couldn't get emails to load and was unable to accomplish anything. And this is just a gmail account. They shouldn't even offer the service unless they get a new provider.

Yelp
Enjoyed our 12 day stay here! Staff was very professional & helpful. The hotel is located close to downtown Queenstown- making for an easy walk. We ordered room service one night and it was delicious. The rooms are spacious and clean. Would easily stay here again!
