This was my third stay at Hotel Stella, and I still love it as much as ever.||||Hotel Stella isn't for everyone. For those who favor modern hotels with modern conveniences---elevators, a 24 hour concierge service, spiffy new furniture, television and no quirks or surprises---you'd best look elsewhere. There are plenty of chain and independent hotels in and around Paris to suit your taste.||||But, if you love the idea of experiencing the charm of old Paris, and don't mind climbing some winding stairs to get there, Hotel Stella is a delight. This seventeenth century building has exposed beams and the kind of decor you don't see much in Paris hotels any more: flowered wallpaper, oriental rugs, ancient armoires and (if you reserve a big room) even a couple of not-very-functional old pianos! ||||The rooms are a decent size (the triple/quadruple rooms are really spacious for Paris!); the neighborhood is attractive, with many small businesses and restaurants. Best of all, this hotel is very affordable by Paris standards. The proprietors (who speak good English) are pleasant and helpful. They do request that payment be made in cash, at the end of your stay.||||The Luxembourg RER stop, and the Odeon metro stop, are within easy walking distance of the hotel. There are many cafes in the area that serve breakfast.
