This Month's New Hotels

"Set as it is in the historic old town, with views of the estuary, Hotel Tayko Bilbao is nothing if not attractive — this picturesque 1924 building has been not just preserved but updated with modern architectural interventions in steel, glass and polished concrete. The result is one part industrial and one part classic." - MICHELIN Guide

Tayko Bilbao (Bilbao, Basque Country) 9 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Set as it is in the historic old town, with views of the estuary, Hotel Tayko Bilbao is nothing if not attractive — this picturesque 1924 building has been not just preserved but updated with modern architectural interventions in steel, glass, and polished concrete. The result is one part industrial and one part classic, and the rooms, from the cozy singles to the junior suites, benefit from the lively contrast. As do the public spaces — especially the restaurants, the Michelin-starred Ola and the more casual Bodega de Ola, both overseen by the highly regarded (and highly decorated) Basque chef Martín Berasategui." - Tablet Hotels

The hotel looks unassuming from the outside. Inside, however, it impresses with its modern architecture. At the reception, we were greeted by very friendly and competent staff and welcomed with a glass of cava. The room was generously equipped with free drinks in the minibar. We had a room with a river view. Despite the road in front of the hotel, it was very quiet in the room. The hotel does not offer a breakfast buffet. However, you can choose your desired breakfast from the menu, which is lovingly prepared, of very good quality, and beautifully served.|The Hotel is located on the edge of the old town and offers the best service and quality in every respect.

I stayed for 3 nights in this funky modernist hotel. Right in old town which was super convenient to all restaurants etc and 3 min walk to tram. Welcome cava and a ticket for a drink and pinxtos at the bar were very appreciated! My room 206 was comfortable and quiet if a bit dark as it looked into one of the side alleys. Bathroom was a good size, AC powerful and quiet. Breakfast and little bar area were excellent as was the lounge area on the top floor if you needed some space. A club chair, robe, Slippers and a makeup mirror in my room would have greatly enhanced my stay. Very helpful and friendly front desk staff!

Very helpful staff. Really cool building, comfortable room with l’occitane products in bathroom. Nice touches with hand written note from housekeeping with chocolates and welcome cava at check in and free drink and pinchos in the bar. Don’t miss breakfast - high quality local ingredients. Delicious. Will come back and try the restaurant next time. Great location for tapas bars in the square and parking (need to pre book and pay) close by.

This modern boutique hotel is the best of old and new. Interiors are contemporary and comfortable and staff is friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious, quiet and comfortable and the entire hotel is immaculately clean. Front desk greeted us with complimentary glasses of cava on arrival and lots of helpful advice about where to go and what to do in the city.||There are plenty of nice amenities in the rooms, including L’Occitane de Provence toiletries. Location is ideal, right next to Old Town and the river and 20-25 minutes walk to the Guggenheim.||My only negative comments are about Bilbao itself. It’s a small city that seems to be trying to attract tourists, yet the shopkeepers and restaurant personnel were exceedingly unfriendly everywhere we went. No smiles, no effort to provide great service, lots of ignoring us or being downright rude. Not sure why we received such a negative reception. In San Sebastián, which is certainly over -touristed, we were met with friendly smiles and over the top hospitality. Outside of the hotel, the people of Bilbao left us feeling very much unwelcome.

We were welcomed with a glass of Cava and provided with a map with areas of interest that suited what we were looking for highlighted and were recommended a number of places to eat.||We were offered a free glass of wine and a Pinxto in the Hotel Bar which was also well received.||The hotel stands out as being a little different with some interesting architecture and nice interior design.||We had a river view room which was a good size and had lovely views. The window also opened which was nice. There is a mini bar, tea and coffee facilities and a safe in the room. ||The shower room was a very good size and there was toiletries if you needed them.||The staff were really all very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable of the local area and tourist attractions and places to eat.||It helped that they spoke English which whilst not expected did make our stay easier.

We enjoyed a very nice room with a view of the river. Best shower of the trip! Front windows have exterior lights on all night se we had to keep the window and the shades closed. Also, no parking at the hotel or really anyplace to unload luggage other than blocking a lane - so it’s a bit of a hassle is you have a car. Otherwise great location for old town, convenient to Nueva Plaza (great pintxoes!) and bars. Long-ish walk to the Guggenheim but close to a stop on the trolley that takes you right there.

Excellent location, great service, wonderful breakfast. Super cool hotel from historic and architectural standpoint. Comfortable rooms and nice amenities but our room was a bit small. Would happily stay here again though.

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Tayko. The staff at the reception gave us a warm and friendly welcome. Our room was spotless, well-isolated, and very comfortable, with a fantastic large bed. The hotel’s central location made it easy to explore the city on foot. Highly recommended!
