From moment of arrival in our car we had a sinking feeling. We had booked an inside car space. But no one at the door, came to greet, so we unloaded our bags and carried them in ourselves eventually. We then had to hand key over and ask concierge to park the car. He was helpful - but hotel needs 3/4 more of him..||At check- in a trainee spent 10 mins telling us prices in the spa - for which we cared little - before handing us our key and pointing to lifts .. So we could find room ourselves apparently . More senior staff were nearby. ||Fortunately our bags were taken and and put on a trolley at this stage.. They were brought up eventually and barely carried inside room door , but no effort made by him to come in, explain services/technology in the room or even ask if there was anything we needed||We had found our room and key didn’t work but door was unlocked . TV remote had out of date batteries and didn’t work ( which since no printed hotel details - bar spa prices of course - which was a nuisance, presumably room service and hotel details only on the TV?) Air conditioning was turned off. We eventually asked reception up twice and to be fair they sorted both issues out promptly. ||Coming back from dinner keys did not work again, back to reception and keys were re programmed without apology..||Though there was a mini bar in the room it was empty..|| In my business with connections and clients and in my profession I judge hotels on their own claims, ratings, and on what they say and offer to guests and whereas above are generally trivial they are not ( as I will comment fully elsewhere ) consistent with any true “5 star” in my and my colleagues experience and views..||Outside in a nearby field, with a deafening noise and vibration was a “pay in “ public party and a barbecue all afternoon and evening barbecue that ran ( reception told us ) every day from afternoon till 11.00 at night - even with doors shut the electronic music, vibration and bass was pounding everywhere.. Could be just at weekends, we didn’t stay to find out. Interestingly ( though hotel appeared half empty) when we complained we were told rooms on other side of the hotel were better but they were all booked out .. We stayed Friday and Saturday and were told to complain to the Mayor.||The noise meant we left entire area for each of our 2 days stay but had to put up with it any where in or near the hotel - I appreciate its not within the hotel’s control but a warning even apology would have been nice .. The hotel policy seems to be to ignore it. We would NOT have stayed in town never mind hotel had we known or informed .||Incidentally on return in our car from an outing to escape noise - once again there was no one on the door - we carried our own bags in to the two concierge inside laughing and chatting to themselves and again had to ask for car to be parked - no greeting.. trivial but we stay 5 star where possible all over the world and have never seen anything like it before..||Finally food - breakfast - a reasonable buffet - but No printed menus and no dishes offered / cooked on request - only staff around were there to clean up tables. As all over the hotel has mostly trainees only and not enough even of same. Did not see any of the senior staff anywhere.||- Dinner was also disappointing. We cancelled the second night - food not great - limited menu and poorly cooked, from frozen in some cases - we’ll comment on that elsewhere.|| Checking out same concierge came to the room to bring down our bags, got our car up|AND loaded the car with the bags - heaven knows what would have happened if he was needed elsewhere||Overall disappointed in hotel and area. We will be reporting to our colleagues, clients and connections etc on our sites. Two stars in our recommendations here as basics fine - It’s a 4 star hotel and staff, communications and extras are not up to scratch. Also not impressed with whoever permitted the afternoon and evening racket in such a nice area ..!!!
