COB

"COB is an acronym for “Cooking Outside the Box”, an excellent description of the cuisine served at this restaurant. Situated in the upper part of Portorož, with stunning views of Pirano bay, plus an interior which combines modern, minimalist design with a 100-year-old wood-burning stove. Chef Filip Matjaž creates original and personalised dishes full of Istrian flavours, which are showcased on tasting menus that demonstrate the chef’s love for his region. The approach here is to create reinterpreted recipes which are imaginative and full of surprises." - Michelin Inspector

Staff so friendly. Special mentions to Grigor on reception who helped us get a takeaway and Manuel also, but unfailingly, the staff are Hotel Tomi's best asset.||Room was spacious and clean. Wifi good. Balcony had a nice view and was spacious. ||Breakfast was fine. ||Pool area was really nice - kept clean and very pretty, though towels were tired and could do with being replaced.||The bedding was not very nice - cheap bobbled cotton. ||Towels were tatty. ||Road leading to beach and town meant crossing a busy road with no pedestrian crossing.

Very varm and kind atmospehere. The owner and the staff are very service minded and professional. Breakfast was exeptionel. Nice surroundings, we were able to borrow bikes for free. The hotel Tomi, in Portoroz, are situated with an amazing view.

this hotel is a complete disappointment. I paid 190 euros per day and was horrified. Pictures from Booking are deception. You can’t breathe in the room, there is no air conditioning. There is a ventilation system that is so noisy that you have to wake up several times during the night. This hotel looks completely different in person. Everything is old, the smell is unpleasant, the bed linen is torn and dirty. Breakfast is very poor. The only positive thing is the friendly staff - EVERYTHING. Think 10 times before booking this hotel for this money. ***** be careful with this hotel. Upon checking into the hotel, we accidentally broke a vase for which we paid 5 €. And after the review, the hotel extorts 40 € from us. A hotel that doesn't think about its guests and doesn't think about its reputation. I don't recommend it

I originally meant to visit Piran and then go straight to Frankfurt. But after finding out that there's a Michelin-star restaurant in southwestern Slovenia, I decided to make an extra stop in Portorož just for a day to dine at COB ("Cooking Outside the Box"), the Michelin-star restaurant in question. This was my penultimate stop during my 25-day Europe trip. If you are staying in Portorož, I cannot recommend this place highly enough. I got extra-lucky with Hotel Tomi – since I told them I made a reservation at COB, they offered me a discount on the room rate and gave me a room with a better view. Also they were nice enough to do the laundry express free of charge, something I was pleasantly surprised with! You won't be disappointed with this friendly family-run hotel. If you want to try out fine dining, highly recommended to stay here and eat at COB.

Charming family-owned hotel. Great breakfast, beautiful pool, easy access to the beach. Very comfortable pleasant rooms. We enjoyed chatting with the owners — son and dad checked us in, mom was there in the morning overseeing breakfast and gave us a few recommendations. The place used a lot of creative and tasteful design elements.

A family-owned hotel on a hill above Portorož, nice and comfortable rooms with a sea view from the balcony.|It is a short walk to the Portorož center and the beach.|The breakfast offers a broad selection of food. |The staff is extremely friendly. Free parking.|Hotel has is a beautiful Michelin star restaurant COB. Dinner was excellent, for each dish you receive you get an explication of the origin and motivation behind the dish.

We came due to good ratings, but we cannot confirm them.. the rooms are old, shower needs definitely a renovation, mold in the shower, Body lotion instead of soap in the shower, incredible white light, not comfortable. The balkony was nice with view, and the staff is very friendly. The location is ok, with free parking lots, but next to the main street to the town. I would def not rate 4 stars or more, rather 2-3.

Nice hotel. Clean rooms, new renovated bathroom, good breakfast and friendly stuff. The way to the beach takes 5-10 minutes, but the shortcut can be an issue for people with small kids or elderly people.
