Away From the Crowds: The Quietest Hotels in and Around Florence

"Today, the 16-room hotel retains an unspoiled historical ambiance, with antique furnishings under carved wooden ceilings; with modern luxury thoroughly eschewed, it feels like a trip back in time. Immersed in green gardens and complete with a number of farm animals and a welcome swimming pool, it sits a 15-minute walk downhill from the lively Santo Spirito neighborhood, while the steep climb back home is best handled by taxi." - Laura Rysman

Torre di Bellosguardo (Florence, Tuscany) 3 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Perched on a hillside to the south of Florence, Torre di Bellosguardo lives up to the meaning of its name: tower of the beautiful view. The idyllic setting is well worth the 15-minute uphill walk from the city. Full of museum-worthy antiques and wrought iron lamps, this Renaissance villa’s grand foyer features frescoes by the artist Bernardino Poccetti, whose works can also be spotted inside the Pitti Palace. The outdoor pool, surrounded by lemon trees, might just have the best view of Florence, and is the perfect place to spend a sunny afternoon, aperol spritz in hand. Once owned by a friend of Dante, the hotel continues to welcome illustrious company, including celebrities like Kate Moss, Emma Thompson, and Daniel Day-Lewis." - Tablet Hotels

One of the most beautiful, enchanting, romantic visits of our Italian honey moon. The views, the rooms, and the overall hotel was stunning. The service was kind, attentive, and helpful, especially babacar. The views make up for the trek down to the center of town. You’re close to a more local side of the ponte Vecchio, out of the hustle and bustle but still with all the foods and drinks you’d want. We will be back!

Interesting. I paid around 500 euros per night for a hotel without hot water supply. I can’t even take a shower lol. Some of the light switches in the room are not working at all. I’ve got no idea how to turn off the lights at night. Location is not bad - abt 10-15 minutes drive to the car park close to city centre. The view is perfect. Staff are super friendly. Definitely not worth the money. I should have gone to a panoramic viewpoint and stay in a hotel with a proper room.

My wife stayed at Hotel Torre di Bellosguardo in June of 2025, our first time in Italy. The service was great, the desk agents were very helpful and had our reservation ready when we arrived. They would call taxis anytime we needed them. The rooms were great - authentic Italian furnishing. Don't expect the latest and greatest in technology, that's not why you stay here. Breakfast buffet on the terrace was amazing, and so was the nighttime swimming in the pool. My only complaint (not really) is that the location is a bit of a trek to get to up the hill but there's nothing you can do about this but plan ahead for it. It was a very special stay for us, and I have a feeling we will be back.

Very disappointing. The gardens and views are stunning and the staff is very welcoming. However, there were major issues that prevented a pleasant stay:||- Constant loud beeping all day and night from an emergency door alarm they could not turn off. Absolutely ear piercing. ||- No shower. Tub only. Hard to bathe properly. ||- Found big circles of mold on the bread at breakfast. In general the breakfast was cold and unappetizing. They have lots of chickens and I was very hopeful there'd be a delicious hot spread with scrambled eggs, cappuccino, etc. There was not. ||This could be such a lovely place with a bit more effort. But I cannot recommend it, especially at the price.

If you like to read books, be polite, and enjoy serenity, are not hooked on your phone, do not want to watch TV; You will have the most special and amazing time at this historical hotel. I make those caveats because this place is so special that I would be mortified to hear of loud uneducated families trying to vacation there. My week at this hotel was nothing short of amazing. This place is for lovers of art and poetry and beauty and people who know how to live. The staff is unbelievably sweet and accommodating. There are 13 cats on the property which make me swoon. There are donkeys and stunning gardens. I mention a room with a view, if you’ve seen the film, you’ll feel like you’re in it staying here.

Once again, we have enjoyed the most magical stay here. Thanks in particular to Mella for the wonderful breakfasts, Mauricio and Michelle at the pool bar for their attentive service and wonderful Pizzas and salads! Abdul and Babacar on the front desk were always on hand to organise taxi’s and answer any questions we had and Vivienne and her team did an amazing job of turning our room around daily (which is no easy job with two children!!). The hotel is beautiful, the pool is always clean and the gardens are immaculate! |Thank you Danielle for being such a welcoming host, as always. |See you again soon!

Beautiful hotel with spectacular views. You’re stepping into history, it’s more than a hotel it’s part of Florence’s fabulous architecture, with frescos and statues dating back generations. Our room was spacious, bed comfortable, and its packed full of quirky features including a bathroom that resembled a confession booth from the outside. This isn’t your typical hotel and so expect a few imperfections that reflect the age. ||The pool was perfect for cooling down in the summer city heat with a bar that had good food options for a quick pizza or salad.||We wanted a stay which combined relaxation and quiet but was close enough to visit the many sights of this beautiful City. This delivered.

Simply divine and possibly our best holiday stay ever. A majestic and historic villa overlooking Florence has with tender love and care by the owners/operators been turned into the optimal retreat for exploring the city or just lounging in the lush gardens by the pool. They make you feel like house guests in a Fitzgerald novel. Don’t miss the opportunity to take a cookery class one evening with Ana, the proprietress.

Yelp
I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel if you are looking for an unique experience . The staff was amazing , extremely helpful, told us all about the hotel . Do keep in mind this is a very old hotel, but like I said that's what makes it unique. In all we were super satisfied, comfortable, stunning view . Nothing negative to say!

Yelp
Significant pros and significant cons. The Good: 1) Beautiful views. You can see the entire city by standing on the grass by the pool or looking out some of the windows. 2) Gorgeous exterior. The villa is hundreds of years old and looks like it in a quaint way. 3) Unique gardens. The gardens are a maze of hedges, flowers, and organically grown fruits and vegetables. There is even a greenhouse, and there are a few animals (donkeys, chickens, cats, etc.) that kids would enjoy. 4) Original frescos. Many of the interior rooms feature original frescos on the walls and ceilings. There is also some impressive wood paneling in some of the bedrooms. However, most of these original features have not been restored, so they are missing pieces. The bad: 1) Inattentive staff. No one helped us carry our bags from the car into the hotel or up the stairs to our room. One day we accidentally left the window open, and the maid did not close it, so the rain came in through the window and soaked our luggage. 2) No restaurant. You have to go down the hill into the city for lunch and dinner (prepare to spend 10 euros on a taxi to get there). They do serve a buffet breakfast, but it is simple (bread, boiled eggs, yogurt), and the waitress spoke no English so it was even difficult to order tea. 3) No exercise facility. I know this isn't very important to some people, but it really wouldn't be difficult for the hotel to buy some weights and put them in a room. 4) Gross bathrooms. The shower did not have a shower head, only a hand-held sprayer, but there was no way to attach it to the wall. There was also no shower curtain so it was hard to not get water all over the floor. Every night when we came back, the bathroom would smell horrible like the toilet had backed up, although we looked and it hadn't. Whenever the toilet was flushed, we could hear it very loudly in our bedroom. 5) Dirty. I walked around our room barefoot, and within an hour the bottoms of my feet were dark brown. Also, in the lobby they had a bowl of flowers sitting in water, and after leaning in to admire the flowers, I realized that there were worms breeding in the water. 6) Bad interior design. There is little furniture in any of the rooms. What is there is very old and worn (such as a broken piano in the "music room"). The beds are fine, so don't worry about that, but be aware that inside, this place looks very shabby. While this place is beautiful on the outside, it certainly has seen better days. You may still want to stay here because of the views, but be aware that this is far from a luxury hotel. You would find more comfort at a Holiday Inn.
