Amsterdam's Hotels Won't Waste Your Time

"The first Dutch boutique hotels we saw were marvels of the modern minimalism that was in the ascendant in the turn-of-the-millennium Netherlands. Since then, however, we’ve seen a flowering of eclectic styles — but none quite so ornate as that on display in Hotel TwentySeven. This 1916 building is home to a private club, and, on its upper floors, to a luxury boutique hotel that’s as intensely atmospheric as anything we’ve ever seen." - Mark Fedeli

We have just returned from a 2 night stay & wow what a stunning hotel. From start to finish the staff were amazing and literally couldn’t have been more helpful. ||The hotel is simply beautiful, the suite really was a 5* experience. ||A real hidden gem right in the heart of the city. ||From the moment I emailed about some special requests for my husbands birthday the team were all over it. The butlers knowledge of the area and restaurants was impressive and scheduling reservations for us was never too much hassle. The bottle of water each morning when we headed out was a lovely gesture. |The cocktail bar on floor 3 was excellent and so worth a visit, we did both evenings!! We also ordered burgers via room service and it was delicious. ||Thank you to the whole team for making this stay memorable. What a great place! We will be back again.

The Hotel TwentySeven is located inside a historic building on Dam Square right in the very centre of Amsterdam. While tourist crowds right in front may feel overwhelming for some, all parts of the inner city are easily accessible from there either by walk or by metro. As rooms are almost fully sound-proof, they are well-protected against crazy outside noises.||Already pre-communication proved to be very friendly and guest-centred, which was confirmed by a very personal and friendly welcome at reception, completed by an extensive room tour. The welcome Ruinart champagne perfected the already marvellous reception.||Our upgrades to breathtaking Suites made sure of huge spaces, room equipment of highest standards, and a fabulous bathroom including an enormous whirlpool bathtub and a shower equipped with double rain shower and regular shower heads. Even though the shower's water pressure leaves room for improvement, the overall bathroom experience including coloured lighting systems was absolutely enjoyable. Also, the two washlets per Suite were a great add-on, and the high quality of tea and slippers were further proof of excellence.||Furthermore, especially considering the enormous dimensions of the Suite, the level of cleanliness was impressive. Only for the technical steering, one must say that not all functions worked in full capacity. Some of the window blinds could not be closed, and generally, light could not be fully kept out of the room during night time. ||During daytime, views of the vivid Amsterdam city centre life enhanced the overall impression very much.||For the breakfast, we enjoyed the exclusive atmosphere and the extremely friendly and attentive service a lot, product and dish quality were not quite able to keep up with the luxurious setting and the lovely drinks.||As we traveled with our mother (in law), it was very important for us that she was spoiled during the stay. The hotel team was able to even surpass our hopes and expectations by far in that respect. Thank you once more for an unforgettable stay in true luxury, which could easily be sensed by the intimacy of 16 rooms combined with a huge staff presence and ultra-high-end furniture.||In 2025, this has been by far our most outstanding hotel experience until now.

It was our first time in Amsterdam. For a special occasion, we chose to stay at the Hotel TwentySeven for 4 days. We felt in LOVE with this boutique hotel. The location, the service, the foods and the details of this hotel are outstanding. They really do have their customers as the priority in their business. I highly recommend this hotel! |We'd like to express our thanks to Daisy, Scott and other staff at the restaurant that we don't remember all their names; To the ladies at the front desk, who went out of their ways to help us to get around Amsterdam and from Amsterdam to Brussels by train; And to a very nice gentleman at the front door, who gave us all the safety tips to go about on King's Day in Amsterdam.

This was my first trip to this hotel.||I was on business travel event rather than for personal pleasure.||In all correspondence with the team they were professional and very capable despite some challenges that they faced with a software upgrade.||The room/suite was available ahead of arrival and the team well prepared on the organisation side.||Design||The entrance to the hotel is through Dam Square, with the entire hotel centred around an atrium leading up to the sixth-seventh floors.||Reception is on the ground floor as well as the Concierge, and restaurant and bar on the third floor with rooms above.||As the rooms are all from the fourth floor upwards, they have a good view and, despite the location in most cases on Dam Square, the sound proofing is excellent. ||Each room design is distinctive and the photographs do not do justice in that they are quite dark in nature, but what is not clear is the quality of the furnishings and the cleanliness and crispness of the room. ||The photographs sometimes give the impression of a slightly dark and seedy hotel, but it is anything but.||Appliances, features, the bathroom are all modern, fresh and well apportioned.||The hotel, I understand, plays to couples, honeymoon events and this is evident by the nature of the furnishings and the quality of the bathroom arrangements.||There are Butlers on the floor and a well apportioned fridge, and a good turndown service.||Unusually, the team offer two types of toiletries, Lalique and Lanvin, which was a refreshing change.||Breakfast, which has a good reputation, is served in the main restaurant on the third floor.||The breakfast seems to have many comments about its quality and diversity, and whilst the standard was good and the range good, I am afraid I would not rank it any better than other high-quality five star establishments.||Summary||This hotel deserves the high scores on Tripadvisor and other areas, as the other hotels which position themselves of a five star standard, do not seem to tick all the boxes. ||We are also Rosewood and Four Seasons fans and so it will be interesting to see how the new Rosewood compares when it opens in Spring 2025. Irrespective, for those who love the décor and the design, you will thoroughly enjoy this hotel.

Our stay at Hotel TwentySeven in Amsterdam was nothing short of extraordinary—by far the most personalized and luxurious experience we’ve had at an SLH property. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like royalty, with every detail carefully curated to make our stay unforgettable. A special mention to our dedicated concierge, Anna, who ensured that nothing was ever missing, no matter what or when we needed it—it was simply taken care of. We were celebrating my wife’s birthday, and the hotel welcomed us with a full-size bottle of delicious champagne, a touch that set the tone for an exceptional stay. Breakfast was beyond incredible—the “Breakfast Experience” truly lived up to its name, feeling more like a curated culinary event than just a meal. With only 16 suites in the hotel, you rarely run into other guests, allowing the staff to provide impeccable, undivided attention. We dined at the restaurant once, but having the same amazing breakfast delivered to our room was a glorious treat. The suite itself, though the smallest in the hotel, was beyond spacious and packed with every imaginable amenity. A large shower with two heads and a built-in steam room, a jet-filled soaking tub, a bidet-equipped toilet, and even a Dyson hairdryer (which my wife now insists we need at home). Every detail was designed for ultimate comfort. The service was truly what set this hotel apart. Merel at the front desk provided excellent recommendations and arranged seamless transportation. Steve was incredibly helpful on our last night, and Marcelo at the bar impressed us with fantastic drink suggestions and wonderful conversation. Despite the hotel’s prime location across a bustling plaza, the windows were so well-insulated that we experienced absolute tranquility inside. While we thoroughly enjoyed exploring Amsterdam, we always looked forward to returning to the hotel—it felt like a hidden gem that we were lucky to discover. The bar has now been set impossibly high for future stays anywhere else. While the hotel’s design and amenities are outstanding, it’s the incredible staff that truly makes Hotel TwentySeven an unforgettable experience. We cannot wait to return!

I travel for a living and this was hands down the nicest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. The location couldn’t be better: in the heart of Amsterdam & right next to Rokin station. There is a Michelin star restaurant inside the hotel. The customer service was truly remarkable. They thought of every detail. Our butler, Tim, and the concierge, Sammy, were absolutely wonderful and took care of everything.

This hotel is a category in its own. We have had the most amazing stay in the incredible tower suite (602). From arrival to departure the staff made sure we had a truly unforgettable experience in this extraordinaryelegant hotel. The decor is rich and luxurious. Our suite boasted 2 bedrooms with 2 ultra luxurious bathrooms that offered steam rooms. Furthermore a wonderful living room with spectacular views of the famous Dam square. The master bedroom was in a tower room, one level up with 360 views of the city. It offered a kingsize jacuzzi and a spectacular candlelit ceiling. My advice: don’t book to many activities if you stay in this hotel and make sure you leave time to enjoy all the top notch amenities in your room as well as the F&B outlets in the hotel. It is a truly amazing experience, that is worth every penny

Yelp
Amazing five star boutique hotel in the heart of the city just off of Dam Square. Location was easy walking to most downtown shopping, museums, and sightseeing. The concierge arranged several day trips for us, all were with quality services. The staff was amazing, everyone friendly and going out of their way to be helpful. We were most impressed by the housekeeping staff, heading out the door you would push a button to alert them the room was ready to be cleaned and without fail, it was done perfectly after a short period of time. We had room service twice, once an amazing breakfast spread, the other was dinner after a long day of walking . Both came quickly and were excellent. Highly recommend this hotel, and we would not hesitate to visit again.

Yelp
I stayed in the Tower Dream suite and it was beautiful. I was really happy with all the little details and the heated toilet seats! I'm taking a star off because I think the service could've been a bit more personal. There was also a weird leak in one of the bathrooms the two mornings I stayed. The hotel is located in a historic building therefore, the elevator was extremely slow. Even though I stayed on the 6th floor, I walked down the steps to get out most of the time. The room itself is beautiful and very glamorous. I felt like a rockstar staying there. When entering the room, there were fancy chocolates awaiting me and my friend. The hotel definitely tries to be as accommodating as possible and I appreciate the effort. Make sure to enjoy the bar that is adjacent to the lobby. The drinks are very fun and snacks are also tasty.

Yelp
Absolutely the best city hotel I've stayed in, implacable service, awesome food, and amazing cocktails at the bar, very Uber crowd. A truly 6 star luxury experience. And so very patient with kids. Thank you guys. Will always stay whenever in Amsterdam.
