The Best Hotels in Saint Tropez

"Rather than the choreographed and contrived interior overhaul, usually conducted by a Parisian design house, Villa Marie has the comforting eclecticism of a private home. Swirly white wrought iron chairs, pillared verandas shaded by vines, and statues smothered in jasmine evoke a sense of nostalgia—a longing for a slower, sophisticated age. A variety of rooms (some with four posters, some vibrant orange, some brandishing the typical hallmarks of boudoir shabby chic) all inhale the salty, warm breeze through french doors. A distinct absence of integrated editing lends Villa Marie its bohemian appeal, just with the buttoned-up service you’d expect from a top Cote D'Azur hotel. Picturesque gardens fan out beneath the pines, where guests roam and recline among olive trees, palms, and cacti. The only discernible theme, aside from elevated bohemia, is white and cream with red accents on table clothes and poolside sun loungers, and regular sightings of Domaine de Marie wine (from the hotel’s sister maison in the Luberon)." - Rosalyn Wikeley

Villa Marie Saint-Tropez

"This splendid hotel in the countryside just outside St-Tropez is further proof that Jocelyne and Jean-Louis Sibuet—already well known for Les Fermes de Marie, in Megève, and La Bastide de Marie, in Provence—are among the most talented and tasteful independent hoteliers in France. From the moment of your arrival, this discreet terra-cotta-tiled compound surrounded by pine-dotted gardens feels more like a private villa than a hotel. It has 42 rooms, an open-air bar, a beautifully landscaped pool, and an intimate spa. Public spaces have a South-of-France-circa-1920s feel, leavened by the liberal use of acid-tone colors; guest rooms sport exposed beams and jewel-toned upholstery. Nearly every room has a private terrace, and suites have views of the distant Mediterranean. Note, too, that there’s a decent restaurant serving a modern Mediterranean menu for those who don’t want the hassle of heading into town."

Hotel Villa Marie | Best places to stay in Cote d'Azur

"In an idyllic setting – overlooking vineyards and Pampelonne Beach, just outside Saint-Tropez – this chic, five-star hotel makes you feel like a celebrity. Immersed in a peaceful, seven-acre park filled with parasol pines, secret gardens and a heated lagoon pool, Villa Marie’s stylish rooms and suites are surrounded by nature.   The spa has quirky walls lined with seashells and uses the scents of the region – pine, rose, jasmine – while the lofty, sea-view terrace restaurant is peak Mediterranean glamour. It doesn’t come cheap, but the Villa is a sublimely romantic spot for a week or two away from the rest of the world, enjoying the Riviera high life. A free shuttle will take you into Saint-Tropez or to its best sandy beaches.  " - Dana Facaros

We had a lovely stay at Villa Marie in August. If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing retreat, conveniently located between Saint-Tropez town & the beach clubs, then this is the perfect stay. The staff were all lovely, and the concierge merits a special mention, having been extremely helpful in securing us last minute bookings for dinners & beach clubs. The breakfast spread was fantastic, lots of choice with high quality, fresh & seasonal items as well as a la carte. We mostly ate out but the one lunch we did have by the pool was great. Would 100% recommend and hope to return next year.

My friend and I spent a week at Villa Marie last summer. I had heard good things about the hotel from so we were excited to try it. The property is pretty but was not for us. Check-in: Staff at reception were nice and check-in was relatively quick. Our room was not ready, so we had lunch at the restaurant while we waited. Staff: Aside from reception, we did not find the staff to be over friendly or helpful. If you wanted or needed anything, it was up to us to ask, and even then, it could take several requests before you got what you needed. In the week we spent there, we were never approached by the manager or anyone who asked how our stay was going. Location: The hotel is 10-15 min from town and 10-20 minutes from most beaches and beach clubs. Many people like that it is close to nothing and therefore quiet, but for us we found it taxing to have to cab anytime we needed to leave. And speaking of quiet, you can hear a pin drop everywhere you go on property, from the pool to the gym to the restaurant. I have not seen people speak so little before on vacation. Spa/Gym: We didn’t visit the spa but we did use the gym each morning. They don’t have much equipment but it was just enough so we could make it work for us. Food: The food was overall disappointing and the menu at lunch and dinner is tiny and doesn’t change. We were there for 6 nights and we were bored of everything on the menu by day 2. If the food were amazing, we wouldn’t have minded eating the same things over and over, but it was average at best. Room: We had a suite with terrace that overlooked the restaurant (roof) and a bit of the sea. The room was fine but not large enough for me to consider it a suite. The furniture and rugs were old and needed to be cleaned, it all smelled a bit musty. Water: They give you 1 bottle on each side of your bed each night and that's it. All the other water you pay for which I don't enjoy at a 5 star hotel. Pool: If you want 100% silence, then this is the pool for you. I never heard a sound during our stay from anyone. And we had to stop the bar staff every time we wanted a cocktail or bottle of water. They would bring it, and then never ask again if you would like another. If you want complete silence and no one speaking to you, including the staff, then this could be the hotel for you. If you want any kind of lively interaction, stay somewhere else.

We have been in the restaurant „La dolce Vita“ as external guests. The place is lovely with a spectacular view. |We got a good wine recommendation at the start of our dinner. The starters were ok. The mains, especially the pasta with truffles, were a big ripoff. Pasta was dry and soupnoodle style. There was truffle on it but absolutely neutral in taste and also very dry…|I complained about it before asking for the bill and the waiter told me he will tell the chef and come back in some minutes. Meanwhile another waiter asked if we enjoyed the meal. I told her the same and she showed no reaction. A few minutes later the first waiter came with the bill without referring to my complaints about the food. I asked him right away about the chefs reaction and he told me the chef explained that truffle in this time of the year has very low intensity of taste. I asked him why this dish is on the menu if it is not a good season for it and there was the comment that the chef told him like this. |Conclusion: bad experience of the guest does not lead to any effort of the staff to rescue the situation. Zero professionality, zero effort and around 50€ for a pasta dish which was the worst I ever had…|Stay away from the restaurant - we felt ripped off. |Can‘t say anything about the hotel experience for in house guest…

A peace of heaven - authentic.||If you wish to avoid the intensit or St Tropez and feel as if you’re staying at your own luxurious Villa then this is the place for you. ||We drove to the hotel and took with us our beloved dog. We could not be made to feel more welcome and the moment we parked the car we were greeted with a local glass of rose wine and a snack. ||The rooms are well appointed and it has been styled to feel respectful ro the style of the area. ||But what makes the hotel are the attentive staff. They are exceptional and so wanting to make you feel at home

Everything is fine at villa Marie. On top, the shuttle service is very convenient and always instantly available. So the, little further away location, is not a disadvantage.

We stayed one night at Villa Marie in Saint-Tropez and, regrettably, it was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences we’ve had in the area so far. While the property has beautiful grounds and well-kept gardens, the overall service, cleanliness, and professionalism was awful, especially given the prices they charge. We arrived after 4pm only to wait over 30 minutes to check in, as the receptionist was occupied on a call and no other staff stepped in to assist. The concierge was dismissive and patronising, offering empty reassurances without taking any initiative. This kind of indifference would be surprising at a 3-star hotel, let alone one charging over €1,100 per night. The room was understandably dated in design, but what is not acceptable is finding dirty towels. When I raised it to the reception, there wasn’t even an apology, just a small acknowledgment that they can replace them. The pool area was similarly neglected; the water appeared cloudy and unclean, making it unappealing and frankly unhygienic to swim in. By the next morning, we couldn’t wait to leave. We had to retrieve our own car and carry our luggage ourselves. And as a final touch, we were offered just one bottle of water for the road despite being two guests. It was all very rude and the staff seemed like they were there to do a summer job rather than trained staff in a 5* hotel. The service and attention to detail at Villa Marie are, at best, equivalent to a 3* property. The hotel urgently needs to train its staff, improve its service culture, and raise its cleanliness standards. Until then, it remains a missed opportunity in an otherwise stunning location.
