The 17 Best Hotels in San Francisco of 2024

"Hotel Zeppelin is the perfect spot for anyone looking to celebrate San Francisco's counterculture. Its design pays homage to the city's rebellious past with seductive paint colors, record players in every room, and graffitied bathrooms. Guests can start the day at Zeppelin Café for a third-wave coffee fix, and end it at PLS on Post for a bite to eat and a tasty craft cocktail." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Hotel Zeppelin San Francisco

"The groovier sister to San Francisco’s Hotel Zetta, the Hotel Zeppelin opened in early March of 2016. Two blocks from Union Square, the 196-room hotel celebrates the city with eclectic amenities—think vintage record players and crushed velvet pillows on the beds—that recall its counter culture roots. In what might be our favorite touch, the bathrooms are emblazoned with the names of local bands, from the Grateful Dead to Green Day, in a psychedelic wallpaper that pays homage to the classic rock posters of the ‘60s and ‘70s. There's also an epic game room, where you can play a few rounds of skeeball, shuffleboard, bingo, and more. For those interested in even more activity, the hotel has partnered with Martone Cycling to offer guests the chance to cruise the city on sleek electric bikes."

Great location for theater and Union Square shopping. Awesome downstairs game room which is the best feature of the hotel. The one bedroom suite is very spacious. The hotel can use some updates. There is no bar in the hotel. The bar next door (adjacent) is a cute diner, and the bartender is nice.

I have been staying at this hotel 1-2 nights a week every week for almost 4 months. As a commuter it is invaluable to have a reliable "home away from home" during the work week. The hotel itself is conveniently located to my office and its parking lot in addition to great restaurants, shopping, and other attractions. I can always count on Josiel and/or Lina to greet me with a warm, friendly smile when checking in or out. Their kind energy is greatly welcomed after a long day of an early morning commute followed by a long day in the office. I am grateful for them and the top tier service they consistently provide week after week. Once in a while I will make my way down to the restaurant for a turkey burger and a little human interaction before retreating to my room to rest before another day in the office and commute home. Love this hotel and its employees. I will forever recommend it to family and friends. Special thanks to Josiel and Lina for facilitating the best experience over and over again!

Third time staying there. The design is very cool, but the winner is the game room downstairs. Brought my kid this time and talked up the game room. Come to find out they are using the game room for a private meeting. Hard to find entertaining things to do for kids at night. I wish I knew the room wasn't available, I would have booked somewhere else.

Cozy, comfy, and a great value for the price. The rooms are well-equipped with a mini fridge and safe, making it convenient for any stay. Check-in was a breeze, and the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The on-site bar and restaurant are a huge plus, offering food and drinks without having to leave the hotel. What really stands out is the groovy vibe-cool art throughout the space gives it a unique character that makes it more than just a place to sleep. If you’re looking for a fun, affordable stay with great amenities, this spot is a winner!

Your staff were very helpful especially Lina and Josie. They accommodated all of our requests and with a smile. We were traveling from New Orleans to go on a cruise to Alaska for ten days. When we returned they were waiting for us. We would gladly stay here on our next trip. Thanks!

Hotel Zeppelin is hands down one of the coolest places I’ve ever stayed! From the moment you walk in, you’re hit with an edgy, artsy vibe that perfectly blends modern luxury with a rebellious, rock-and-roll spirit. The rooms are stylish and super comfortable, with unique design touches that make the stay feel extra special. The staff was absolutely fantastic—friendly, attentive, and always ready with great local recommendations. The lounge and bar area are the perfect spots to unwind, and the location is unbeatable, right in the heart of the city. If you’re looking for a hotel that’s not just a place to sleep but a whole experience, Hotel Zeppelin is it. I can’t wait to stay here again!

This is a very good hotel in Union square. Stayed here 4 nights and apart from trash being emptied early in morning, never heard a thing. Lots of bars and eating places nearby and easy links to BART out to airport.

This is an excellent spot with lots of charm and high quality rooms, quiet, clean and stylish. Best reading chair on earth! Ultra comfortable bed, slept like a baby. Great bathroom as well.

Yelp
My sister had stayed here before in March and enjoyed her stay as well, so Zepplin came highly recommended. So we stayed here for my Birthday Staycation and was immediately satisfied with my decision to trust my sister. The room was beautiful and creative. TVs were updated with the ability to stream your favorite apps. Housekeeping was very responsive and kind. Even when we were leaving one of the attendants on our floor was vacuuming and assisted us with getting the luggage cart into the elevator. PLS next door was delicious and server was helpful! We had so much fun we took zero pictures lol (sorry Zepplin) The catalyst for this review, however, is the head of the front desk: Rodaba! (I assume she was the head because she was the only person who spoke to us and every guest when we came and went--there were other people at the desk but they were less than kind and seem to avoid guests). But back to the beautiful Rodaba..she greeted us with a smile and great customer service. She was very accommodating and thoughtful. She made our stay very comfortable. Even up until we checked out she was very intentional. Will definitely stay here again. It's our new favorite city getaway thanks to Rodaba! Anyone in the hospitality field could learn a lot from her!

Yelp
Stayed here in December and booked same day through hopper app. great deal! Absolutely great deal. Within an hour of booking we checked in and the service was absolutely fantastic. Very accommodating with my service animal (pet friendly hotel in general with smaller pet fee than normal for non working pups) Was upgraded to a larger room on a better floor because it was simply available at check in which was not expected and appreciated. Theme of the hotel was definitely urban chic which was cute and functional. Will definitely be favoriting this hotel for the future.

Yelp
Great location - just down the street from Union Square. So nice to stay at a hotel that has some character instead of a corporate chain. It's an old building, so everything isn't perfectly identical. My check-in experience and room were excellent. The bathroom was a little small and could use a little maintenance (loose faucet and tp roll holder). I think I lucked up with an upper floor on the street side. Bedding and pillows were excellent - slept great. I found my room at Hotels Tonight, but I was very disappointed that there was a $40/night hotel fee hidden at the bottom of the listing. This was not mentioned at check-in & added no value to my stay - no breakfast/no gym.

Yelp
This is our favorite place to stay when we're in the city. The rooms are nice and the shower is amazing. Comfortable bed and very nice bedding. Free small water and in-room espresso machine in the room .We love the game room downstairs for hanging out. The desk clerk, Rodaba, was SO friendly. The location is excellent. We walked to the Warfield and Union Square.

Yelp
Do not use parking garage!!! The attendants are scammers. They make you pay before and then charge you after on top of that. And then have no one to speak to or help regarding billing. Thanks for 4 seperate transactions on my card

Yelp
such a cool place to stay in! I had never heard of this place until I stayed here but it was so cool! it smells great when you walk in and the staff is so nice and friendly ! the rooms were great and the peace sign on the light in our room was dope. i love the funky rock band vibes so much. this hotel is so unique and everyone should stay in for a unique stay in SF. the only thing that sucked is when you're in the other building you have to go to the fourth floor then go to the other building to get to your room which was kind of a hassle but no biggie, still loved it!

Yelp
We stayed here for the second time this past weekend in their suite and I must say that Hotel Zeppelin is definitely becoming my favorite hotel in the city! Not only did we arrive early and get to check in, but we also were able to do a late check out for a small fee. The hotel offers a coffee bar, awesome game room, restaurant and so much more! Staff is always friendly and accommodating! Hotel is quiet, clean and they also offer valet (bit pricy though) which I recommend as there is only street parking. The suite is the perfect size for 4 people as it includes a private bedroom with bathroom, 2 living rooms, a powder room, kitchen and your own private patio. The theme of the hotel is definitely rock and roll and I love the vibes and ambience! We will definitely be staying here next time we are in the city - no question!

Yelp
Well-upgraded, the Hotel Zeppelin is a comforting boutique testing place mere blocks from Union Square, the theater district, shopping, and museums. A couple blocks walk gets you to mass transit: BART, MUNI underground and buses, and the cable cars. The rooms are modernized with clean lines, large flat-panel screens, and comfortable mattresses and pillows. Crisp, sparse bathrooms with a shower; no bathtubs. The lobby fireplace is it's own destination. Good deals via their website; check out the Weekend Warrior.

Yelp
Good place, love the classic rock theme. Price and location spot on. Deducted one star because it does have an old carpet smell.

Yelp
A quirky, eclectic hotel. Unfortunately, as much as I wanted to like my stay, there was a lot of bad: 1. The rooms are small. It's probably due to the nature of San Francisco, but I was upgraded to a premium suite, and it was still tiny. 2. The ceiling lights in the bedroom, hallway, and bathroom are all really dim. They compensated this by adding about 4-5 little lights around the room, and yeah, it helps, but at bedtime, you need to go around and turn off a bunch of little different lights. I could live with the hallway light being dim, but the bathroom light was dim and yellow. Really depressing. 3. My window was damaged. The glass had separated from the plastic frame. This allowed all of the cold San Francisco air to enter my room, as well as all the traffic noise. 4. AC/Heater was LOUD. I would be woken up by a very very loud heater at 2, 3, 4 am. Very jarring; not conducive to a relaxing restful night. 5. Shower head would spray water onto the outside floor every time I would shower. There was a leak where the shower head met the shower pipe. I tried to tighten it, but no use. Maybe damaged hardware? Regardless after my shower, there would be a pool of water on the bathroom floor. Let's wrap it up with the good: the staff was kind and attentive, and so was housecleaning. It had the amenities I needed to get through my days. Overall, the place has potential. I think that they just need to be more on top of maintenance, especially with how old the building seems to be already. I hope they give the place some TLC and fix issues. I can only relate what happened in my room, but if it happened in my room (which was a premium suite) I know it was happening in other rooms.

Yelp
Terrible experience with this hotel. I had a prepaid room booked. When I came over to check in at 9:30 PM I was asked to wait only to learn that all the rooms are blocked and no rooms are available. They are working on a room. I left for the dinner and came back at 10:15. I was told that there is no room at the hotel and I have been arranged at a different hotel (thankfully nearby). Still had to wait in the lobby for another 30 mins before I got the room. Do not recommend to use this hotel given the shady practice being followed.

Yelp
First time staying here and I'm so glad we decided to stay here. The entry area was so impressive. When you walk in and look left, you'll notice a beautiful piece of art; it's a black and white portrait of a young lady in front of a red brick wall. Loved the decor! Hats off to the team of who designed this room. The stairs from the front desk to the 2nd floor is so charming. Loved the look! Also when you walked in, if you turned your head left, there's a cool piece of silver art of a woman made out of gears. It was too cool! The cafe area near the fireplace was beautiful. Very Zen and relaxing. After you check-in and drop off your bags in your room, be sure to go back to the first floor and take the stairs downstairs under the large silver ball lighting fixture. Coolest game room I've ever seen. There's a vending machine on your way to the game room and some bathrooms downstairs, as well. When we arrived in our room, we loved the bedding and decor. Very elogant. The room had a great desk with an espresso machine. Enjoyed the little fridge under the desk. Don't forget to look UP and see the "peace" lighting above the light center fixture. Great added touch! Enjoyed the shower pressure, jersey hooded robes and the towels were soft. There was a blow dryer and black towels for us ladies after washing our make-up off. The game room has a cool oversized Peace wall art made out of license plates. It had a cool basketball wall. Loved the large Connect Four game! Never seen one of those. The pool table was great! Look up! The ceiling had cool art on it, too. When you leave the game room, look right - there's a huge purple door with a mini door within it. Too much fun! When we checked in, Expedia apparently didn't connect with this hotel but the lady set us up in a deluxe suite with a bottle of wine. Nicest and most accommodating staff.

Yelp
Best stay ever! They had a restaurant and a arcade area to relax in. The rooms were very clean and although small they felt spacious. They also included robes and really nice shampoo and conditioner. Bed was clean and comfortable with soft pillows. They have a cafe in the morning where you can go get a coffee and a bite. They do also offer valet parking and have plenty of places to walk to nearby. Overall I think is a great place to go with your friends.

Yelp
Hotel is bleh. The experience at the front desk, room, condition all really is a 1 star. But! Because of ismael (hotel engineer) I've added 1 additional star. Front desk, when we checked in, my roommate asked if there was a microwave in the room or lobby. The agent name (Aisha) stated, "no there's no microwave. But I'll have someone heat it up for you." My roommate replied, "I have trust issues, could I go with the employee to heat up my food?" Aisha replied, "no. It's either I have someone heat up the food in our basement or you just eat your food cold. Your trust issues is not my problem." In which, we were both utterly shocked and my roommate replied, "okay. Nvm" This was around 7pm, we've been traveling since 5am, and it's the food we brought from another state - so, soon after checking in, we can just start working before hitting the bed. But nooooo, Aisha (front desk) absolutely couldn't careless. I was checked into a room that smelled sour/wet towel, and heater in the room wasn't working. So, while the engineer was working to fix the heating situation, I checked out 2 other rooms - all of which was worse then the other. While I was checking out 2 other rooms, my roommate shared the experience she had with the front desk with the engineer that was working to fix the heater, and guess what? The engineer replied, "oh my... there's a break room on top floor, let me take you there and you can heat up your food there." He took us to the break room, and we chatted a bit about SF, and he walked us back down. That simple, yet genuine care the engineer name (Ismael... I hope I spelled it right?) offered us was so very touching. Full disclosure, I am an Ambassador level member at Marriott. But had 0 choice in staying at this hotel since my employer was paying for the stay. As an Ambassador member (highest level you can achieve under Marriott rewards program) I'm used to great services. But how Ismael was able to turn awful night into a belly full, happy night, we will remember for a very long time. Finally, bathroom... body lotion, shampoo, conditioner - all smell like cucumber. Very strong scent of cucumber. How I absolutely hate cucumbers, and I literally had to endure such scent for 3 nights! Ugh! Girl working at the front desk at 9:45am on Feb 3rd is also not surprisingly rude. We requested late checkout and the latest was 1pm instead of 12pm and anything after 1pm, there's a fee. We asked if the fee can be added to the company card since this is a business trip. She replied, "No. it will be my personal card." Incompetent employees makes this hotel staying experience a nightmare.

Yelp
Terrible location. Hidden fees. Location isn't secure so you run the risk of the areas homeless coming in the lobby. Charge outrageous fees for checking in early.

Yelp
Of all the San Francisco hotels I've stayed in, and it is dozens, Hotel Zeppelin is my new worst hotel. I was on the 7 floor, room 723 exactly. The first time I called the desk was 6:30 am Sunday morning. Desk clerk said she'd take care of my noise complaint. The second complaint, I was informed that there was no rooms above me. ONLY THE GYM, AND FROM 6AM SUNDAY MORNING, THESE A**H**** we're upstairs literally dropping 200lb barbells on the floor directly above my room where I was supposed to be sleeping in after a long work week. News flash Mr Manager, Hotel Zeppelin, NO ONE WANTS A F****** GYM DIRECTLY ABOVE THE HOTEL ROOM THEY JUST PAID YOU $250 TO STAY IN. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I AM PISSED. I WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN, AND I DONT THINK YOU SHOULD EITHER. UNLESS YOUR A WORKOUT FANATIC, THEM BY ALL MEANS, GIVE IT A WHIRL.

Yelp
Stayed here for New Years. Would've gotten 3 stars but my bumper was stolen off my car while parked in their Valet. Note their policy says they aren't responsible for any damage/theft, so I'd highly advise against bringing your own vehicle here. Also was extremely difficult to drop off/pick up car as there isn't enough space for vehicles to park so vehicles were backed up into street blocking oncoming traffic. Valet was just a mess overall. Hotel stay itself wasn't bad, bed was comfortable and decor is... interesting to the eye. Front desk was friendly but the lack of efficiency + the fact my vehicle was vandalized under their care means I'm never returning here and suggest you don't either.

Tina G.

Yelp
This was the worst stay we've ever had. They over charged us for the room and didn't do anything to resolve it. We asked for a manger. They said the manager would be in at 6 am. We went down at 7 and then we were told the manager wouldn't be there til 8am, the receptionists seemed clueless. The room was tiny. It smelled awful. The pillows were a joke. The heat wasn't working properly nor was the TV. Espresso machine didn't work. Charged us $50 to park with valet. The "free" breakfast was stale bagels and horrible coffee. We will never go back.

Yelp
"This never happened before, this is unusual." - front desk We had such a lovey experience at this hotel...until this morning. We ordered "room service" at 8:15am. It is now 10:30. No food in sight. Called the front desk, they have no idea where it is and have the same vector (as us) to contact the third party room serviced provider: text We're texting the company and getting no response. The front desk is of no help, has no answers and accused us of yelling when we just used strongly worded language obviously hungry/frustrated about being charged for missing, late breakfast via room service. It's up to us to figure it all out and the hotel is taking zero responsibility. Egregious to say the least. When you spend several thousand dollars on a luxury hotel as your one getaway for the entire year, the very last thing you want to worry about is, "where's my food?" When you call the front desk, the response shouldn't be "there's nothing we can do," it should be, "we'll take care of it and find out," not to shift blame. Working in the service industry for over a decade witnessing the complete lack of tact and service centered communication is astonishing. Maybe I'm a old fashion, but service is a dying art. Everything else was wonderful about this hotel. The game room was perfect for our needs. The room has some special added items that give the room a truly unique experience but because of the complete fumbling of an absolutely essential part of a luxury hotel experience, room service, the positive experience has been irredeemably marred. I don't get time off and when I do all I want to do is not have to worry about fighting a 3rd party Room service (provided by the hotel) for some fuel for the day so I can fulfill my responsibilities. Instead I'm here, leaving a terrible review for a truly horrendously frustrating experience with no genuine sympathy from the hotel. We did get a complete refund (in 5-10 business days) and still no food. The front desk did call back and ask if we resolved our issues with their service provider. Oh, and a $10 coupon if "we give them another shot." Yeah, no thanks. I'm hungry and angry. I'm hangry.

Yelp
It's a really nice hotel with lots a night life nearby. The game room is also fun. Only down side is that we could not control the AC in our room.

Yelp
What a Gem! I'm from the Bay Area San Jose born and raised. My husband and I booked this hotel to escape our home town to come to the beautiful city for New Years. We're blown away what a treat this hotel is so upscale and we're so happy we didn't fly out to Vegas this hotel is more upscale with decor and cleanliness and the little things like the beautiful shampoo Bottles in the bathrooms to the wallpaper design! I can go on and on.
google avatar

Yelp
Sometimes you stay at a hotel and think, wow they really thought of everything! Hotel zeppelin is the opposite, you think how could they not have thought of this?? Hotel definitely prioritizes design over functionality, we booked the family suite (came out to 400 a night with fees, and yes they are still charging the amenity fee even with no amenities during covid) and the sofa bed in the living room has two extremely heavy coffee tables in front of it that were almost impossible to budge in order to open the bed. The (also surprisingly heavy) lamp is directly in your face when you lie on the bed. The room doesn't feel very spacious either. Valet is $58 a night, and the valet isn't actually there.. you have to park temporarily and go in and tell the front desk and they call they valet over while you wait which kinda defeats the point of valet which is convenience.. For a hotel of this price, I would expect higher caliber. At least the location is good? Edit: would like to add the phone doesn't work, the WiFi goes in and out, there's no microwave and some of the outlets don't work ‍

Yelp
Cute place, decent prices, perfect location. No bar inside and room smelled like mildew

Yelp
Hard pass on this hotel. I booked business travel here. My 'queen' room included a full size bed, and my windows face a brick wall that allows zero sunlight in. It smells old and musty. I ordered room service at 9:30 pm and at 10:30 I had to reach out to customer support at the -delivery service- they use, who only then informed me there had been a 'technical issue' at the restaurant and I was not going to receive my order. Absolutely nothing redeemable about this place; skip it.

Yelp
I recently chose Hotel Zeppelin for a girls trip and I have to say... other than it's cool San Fran Vibe, great design, amazing game rec room, AYESHA who greeted us as soon as we walked in was the CHERRY ON THE PIE. She was kind, sweet and had a great vibe. We got to see her again the next day and loved that she remembered us. She is overall a great asset to the hotel and made our stay very memorable. Thanks A

Monica K.

Yelp
My one star rating is only for the billing. The staff was amazing. The room was amazing. The location is perfect. I stayed here early November 2022. It was a final girls trip with a dear friend who had terminal cancer and has since passed. The trip was nothing short of perfect and filled with precious memories. We booked two identical rooms next door to each other. At check out I signed my bill without reviewing it closely (I know. My bad.) because we were excited to go to dim sum for the first time! Anyway, when I looked at my charges, I had been charged double! Yes, double. My room charge was exactly double what my friends paid for the exact same room on the exact same nights! I have called. I have emailed. I have followed up. It's been 3 and a half months and I cannot get a response. I know I should have reviewed my bill closely at checkout. However I am so disappointed that the hotel will not simply make this right. Easy fix. If you stay here, you will have a great experience in SF. However, review your bill at check out and make sure you are being charged the rate you were quoted at booking.

Yelp
Awesome sauce in the form of a hotel. Boutique & chic. The rooms are super comfy, spacious & contemporary. Equipped with espresso machine, frig, SMART flat screen television, hooded bath robe (for purchase), large working desk, complimentary bottled H2O, full length mirror, top quality linen, a remote that doubles as a keyboard, Peace Sign silhouette dome lighting & more. At least that was the layout of my King suite. Moving on to the fabulous game room...do they miss taking a tour of this area. Games from Skee Ball to Pool, Basketball, Chess, etc. There's also super plush seating for relaxing or watching sports on the projector size TV. Take advantage of the photobooth (don't worry of you don't have change its takes Apple Pay. The fitness center was nice but freezing cold. I found the AC controller and didn't hesitate to make a slight adjustment to make my workout more comfortable. There's a gorgeous full bar, wifi working space, fireplace and tons of artwork that don the lobby area. The hotel is within walking distance to pretty much everything. I'd definitely stay here again. ~Christy

Yelp
San Francisco has definitely given me a new appreciation for boutique hotels, with Hotel Zeppelin probably being my favorite so far. It's a fun place with a stellar location. If you want to go shopping you're a five minute walk away from places such as Union Square, Uniqlo, or an Apple Store. There's also a huge, two story Walgreens five minutes away that is open 24 hours and sells unexpected food items such as sushi! There are great restaurants nearby and Chinatown is a 15 minute walk away. The lobby is modern looking with nice art features and a gorgeous bar that has a curved wall of glass bottles. Down a flight a stairs is the game room, which is a great place to unwind. You can shoot some hoops and play skee-ball. They even had a photo booth that supported Apple Pay, which made for a great souvenir. My room was comfortable (and quiet!), with the amenities you would expect such as a safe, large tv, good sized desk, comfortable bed, etc. It was pretty humorous that if you flipped a switch a peace sign gets lit up above your bed! The bathroom wallpaper is also covered with the names of classic rock acts. Instead of being wasteful with standard hotel soap bars they have liquid soap dispensers. The only part of the room I didn't like was the bizarre stool/stirrup combination by the desk. I found it very uncomfortable. Full disclosure: Yelp paid for my stay here in order to work on a social media campaign. Therefore I don't know what the pricing was like but I would definitely choose to stay here if I came back on my own dime!

Yelp
Quirky hotel - great location in relation to Union Square. They have a game room, so many bars, and a restaurant. The rooms? The livingroom was separated from the bedroom in a way words fail me (and we all know my word mastery skill) It felt like the livingroom section of the suite was originally a walk in closet. A sofa that fit wall to wall and flatscreen were in there. Despite its quirkiness - or thanks to its quirkiness we had a lovely stay here, in the city. My hometown. The city I live in. So...if you know me you know I'm gonna say what no one else will ... I wonder if it's haunted.

Yelp
I don't give many hotels 5 stars, and I was surprised by this one. Greeted with a cocktail - need I say more? Well I will - a greyhound and it was good! Place is modern and clean - pretty different from a lot of the older, musky hotels in SF. Great style, lots of spots to lounge. Customer service is on point. Huge games room on lower floor- shuffle board, pool table (although they need to fix its slant), connect four, etc. great place for a meet up point. Room was great, perfect view, just a tad confusing to get to the room through two elevators. I love that this hotel cares about senior animals and donates a portion to them if you choose not to have housekeeping service for a day! Connected to a restaurant and bar. The lobby also has live music. This place "rocks" pun intended and not ashamed of it!

Yelp
SANGRIA WELCOME Its location is perfectly situated for walking to Chinatown, shopping and unlimited affordable great eateries. Sangria is offered during the check in phase. There are loaner bicycles available. Plenty of comfortable seating to enjoy your complimentary coffee in the mornings. Downstairs is a recreation room with pool table, shuffle board, basketball hoops and Skee Ball to test your eye-hand coordination. From what I've witnessed, I'm glad there are no darts. LoL The Hotel Zeppelin occupies two buildings but you would never know it. My 4th floor room happened to face the Olympic Club. It had a very comfy king bed with pressed sheets and heavy king pillows. A large HD flat screen somehow fits on the bench table along with a fancy coffee maker. Mini refrigerator is underneath the table. Closet and dresser cabinet is more than adequate for a week's visit for two occupants. Shower tub is in excellent condition and water pressure assures a great consistent shower. You can hear folks walking lightly above you but its not a deal breaker. Heavy darkout curtains for light sleepers. Over many years I've stayed at many different hotels from top of the Hill; South of Market; Fisherman's Wharf; and Japantown. This one really suits me perfectly. Zeppelin is part of the Viceroy Hotel Group.

Yelp
Hotel Zeppelin rocks! Sure -- it rocks in a "Rock & Roll," kind of way -- how can it not with a name like Zeppelin? Owned by the Viceroy Hotel Group, this hotel (just over a year old at the time of this review), is an awesome addition to their already fabulous portfolio of unique boutique-ish hotels. Conveniently located close to Union Square, there is plenty to see and do steps from the front door of this hotel, but once you're in, you may not want to leave! With the warm, colorful lobby, friendly staff, bar / lounge onsite, and seamlessly working wifi, I'm sure there are guests that spend plenty of time indoors. I didn't get to do that during my recent three night stay due to work obligations, nor did I get to check out the game room or exercise room (I did workout at other nearby gyms, however!) Even so, I managed to have an awesome stay. I did enjoy the handwritten welcome note from the Front Office Manager, the decor and amenities in the room -- especially the cozy robe, comfortable bed, and ROIL - Amanda George toiletries. The room was just the right size - maybe even spacious for San Francisco. Even with a room on the second floor near the elevator and stairway, there were no issues with noise. I slept like a baby! My room was spotless when I arrived (as it should be) and I took advantage of their "going green" program, which means that I declined housekeeping during my stay to both show some love to Mama Earth but so that the hotel will "pay it forward" and donate a portion of the revenue from my stay to Muttville Senior Dog Rescue in my name. (Thanks for that!) I will definitely add this hotel to the rotation for future trips to San Francisco... Rock on!

Yelp
Well what can I say about waking up at 6am to loud thumps on the ceiling all morning long! I thought we were have an earthquake but it was the gym above the room we stayed room 723! I don't suggest this hotel at all not even for the desperate! I would think that the owners of the hotel would at least have some common sense as to not put a gym right above the damn rooms! But I guess they arent staying here so they dont give a damn! BAD HOTEL BAD OWNERS POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE I DONT SUGGEST THIS HOTEL AT ALL!!!!!!

Yelp
Had high hopes for the hotel as I have eaten at the a joining restaurant, and had drinks at their lobby bar before my stay. Decor is great, and if you are a music lover you would appreciate the imagery used. So first off the weird smell of the entire hotel was off putting. It basically smelled like a urinal cake everywhere. The bed was small and super uncomfortable. Also tried to get in touch w/ front desk, from my room, and had no one pick up. Extra fee taken at hotel separate from reservation is also a turn off. Positives were that the staff are friendly and they did just get a scale to weigh luggage's.

Yelp
trashy AF - charged me a surprise $42 for use of wifi and coffee and access to the fitness center -- none of which i need - and when i complained the robot-person at the front desk told me its "unrefundable". 4-star hotel? i've had better service at 2-star hotels.

Yelp
Very cool place, great for couples or family. Went here with my son and enjoyed their popish art decorated game room. It had skew-bowl, basketball, pool table, table shuffle board, tv's and comfortable couches. When I was there they had a pop up restaurant ran by a Michelin star chef. Didn't get to eat there but still impressive. Only reason I gave 4 stars is our room was a little dingy (not terrible) however the bathroom was large and hotel had all the amenities. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Just an average hotel. Not what it's made up to be. Beware of the 35$ fee that no one tells you about prior to check-in.

Yelp
Worst hotel stay EVER! Honestly, I've had better experiences at low rate motels. So, where do I begin? First impression: FILTHY hallways, torn up elevators, difficult to navigate the building, lobby bathroom gross and seedy So we were told to take the lobby elevator to the 4th floor and then go left and make a couple rights to get to another elevator to get to the 7th floor. We get off the 2nd elevator and there are signs for all the different room#s, none of which included our room. So we got lost and that wasn't fun. Room Bathroom: Small, no bath, terrible water pressure, water never got HOT, no individual soaps/shampoos. Large containers that maid service refills. Seems unsanitary. No fan/vent and door/walls are paper thin. Shower drain was a joke--finished with my shower I was standing in over an inch of water. Gross. Room: AC fan was SOOOO loud. Impossible to hear TV over the constant clanging and whirring unless speaker volume was on max. It also made it difficult to sleep while AC was on. Access Issue: Came back from a long day and our room key didn't work. Made the trek back down to the lobby and they gave us a new key. Came back up and the new key didn't work either. Uhhhh! We called the front desk to ask that someone come up to assist. It took them almost 10 minutes to arrive. They apologized and were able to provide a working key at that time so that was redeeming. But it shouldn't have happened in the first place. I can say two good things: 1) Bed and pillow were comfortable and I slept soundly on them (as long as the AC wasn't on). 2) Cool game room in downstairs lobby--skiball, basketball hoops, pool table...fun We didn't try the restaurant/bar and I don't know how much our stay cost because I didn't book it...so I can't comment there. Anyway, no, I will NEVER stay here again, nor will I recommend it to anyone. Major bummer.

Yelp
It was fun, but our window was touching the building next to us and that was a little uncomfortable as construction workers could easily peer into our room. Not enough coverage on the windows for that. Very close to the venue we were going to which was nice. Your skee ball tables scoring system is broken so I lost against my girlfriend, WHY YOU DO THIS TO ME.

Yelp
The decor is awesome and the theme is unified throughout the hotel. The decor and furniture in the rooms have been thoughtfully selected and overall the whole hotel is really well designed. The room service was prompt and the food was really good--better than most room service food. Here comes the BUT... The overall experience and service was...underwhelming. Given the price, I just expected more. I've stayed at multiple hotels in the San Francisco area, some cheaper than Hotel Zeppelin, and there were more amenities, better service, and more square footage. I wouldn't discourage anyone from staying at Hotel Zeppelin, I just think there are better hotels with better prices in the area.

Yelp
Came for a one night stay for my cousins birthday. We reserved a room with 2 queens for around $350, which is a decent price for SF considering how close we are to Union Square. Location: about a 12 minute walk from Bart do not too bad. We opted to drive since we were running behind schedule, and parked around the corner in the overnight parking garage. They park the car for you at $35 a night which isn't bad (no ins and outs though). The hotel is on Post street and there's a few bars around so we bar hopped the night and left the car behind Check in: if you don't check in by a certain time then you will lose your reservation. We were running behind so we called and let them know we were checking in late. When we got there, around 9, they let us know they overbooked and our room was already taken. To make it up, they upgraded us to a suite at no additional cost! Staff: our interaction with the staff was alright. They're friendly but not over the top. We go a complementary glass of sangria upon check in, which was cool. The bad part is that house keeping came in early this morning to clean (even though checkout is at 12). Also I called the front desk over an hour ago to get the sheets changed, called again 15 minutes ago, and still no one came. The in suite phones have a button for front desk and housekeeping, but when you press it all you get is a busy signal. The suite: absolutely beautiful. You walk in and on your right is a lounge area with a couch, dining table, tv and sink. There's also a small room that has a mini fridge and drawer style microwave. On the left is a living room area with a couch/pullout sofa, tv, and fireplace. Then there's a half bathroom in the hallway with a sink and toilet. Then there's the bedroom...I wish I took pictures before We got comfortable lol. King size bed with a lounger chair and fire place. Nice size shower with a separate room for the toilet. OH THERES MORE There's a private outside patio for our lounging enjoyment lol. The weather was perfect last night so we hung out there a pregamed before making our way out. Overall great experience on our SF mini vacation

Yelp
This is one of the best hotels I've stayed at in SF and will definitely stay here again next time I'm in town. The decor is super funky and I felt like I was in a set of a movie walking through the hall to my room. The rooms were so comfortable! My bf always loves checking out the coffee makers in hotels (a cute quirk of his) and let me tell you, this place has the most fun little espresso maker. We also spent some down time in the game room playing skeeball and multiple-basket ball. The location is obviously perfect. We walked everywhere, including to AT&T park for a game!

Yelp
Great hotel! I love the concept throughout the entire hotel. The hotel is really old school which really adds to the charm. Hotel is about 30 minutes ride from the airport. Hotel staff very nice and efficient. They even gave a map of tthe city and highlighted areas to visit. Cool rock art everywhere with lots of modern touches. Our room was a nice size and had large windows. We didnt have a view but had a comfy homey feel. We had complimentary bottled water and nice size mini fridge. There was a bar at the entrance with live music that was nice. My fiance said the game room was full of 80s and 90s arcade games with free play for guests. Location us great pretty much clise to airport, the pier, bunch of shopping & restaurants nearby. I didnt get a chance to try the restaurant attached but heard it was great. I would definitely stay again and recommend this hotel

Yelp
If there was a 3.5 star rating I would probably give that. The good: the location is great, the staff who were there were very friendly, and I would stay again just for the amazing game room. We had the game room mostly or all to ourselves. They have a pool table, shuffle board, basketball hoops, the skew ball was out of order, but they had a couple of large TVs in there and good music playing. We were encouraged to bring our drinks down there and hang out, which we did. The rooms were cozy but well decorated and we made use of the nespresso machine. The not good: the restaurant and bar were closed. There are no ice machines on the floors, but if you ask for a bag of ice from the front desk, they are happy to get it for you. Their website makes mention of the ability to use their scooters free of charge but we were told they were being maintenanced. They did have bicycles available though. Housekeeping doesn't come up unless you specifically ask them--I have a feeling they were all around short staffed (maybe why no bar or restaurant open) but the staff who were there were friendly enough. All in all, I would stay there again just for the game room and location.

Yelp
This is a 3.5 star review, but can't leave half stars! We stayed at Hotel Zeppelin for 3 nights over Valentine's Day weekend. You really can't beat this area, TONS within just a few minutes' walk and public transportation stops nearby also. The hotel is definitely edgy and unique. At check-in, you're offered a complimentary cocktail, which is a really nice touch being that drinks are anywhere from $13-18 in SF. It's a premade mix of some sort and rather strong! The hotel's decor is rocker chic, a music lover's dream. It is physically very dark, not a bright and airy decor scheme. The rooms are on the small side, but that's not unexpected for SF. There's still room for everything you need, but know that the beds are smaller than you're likely expecting. Possibly a queen, but I believe it was a full, as we felt it was smaller than what we have at home. We especially liked the shower setup with full-sized toiletry bottles, and the Nespresso coffee. There's an impressive game room downstairs from the lobby that's free and a lot of fun. It was crowded every time we tried to visit, but still awesome. A huge sitting area with a big screen also, great for watching whatever game is on. Now a couple of cons, the reason for my 3.5-star review versus 4. We visited both hotel bars, a total of 3 times, and had horrible service every time. Not just sorta, but absolutely horrendous. Went unacknowledged for several minutes all 3 times, twice had menus plopped down in front of us without so much as a word, one time we were acknowledged with a, "Yeah?" when we caught the server's attention to ask for our bill. We eat out and travel a ton, and ESPECIALLY by SF standards, this was ridiculous. Would absolutely not recommend either the restaurant or the lobby bar for this reason, unfortunately. Also, every booking site says the hotel has robes, but it does not. Not a huge deal, but worth noting. We found the smallish bed and pillows rather uncomfortable as well. Finally, the hotel has a quirky layout. You may have to travel between two elevators to get to your room in the second tower, and it's quite a detour. Again, not a big deal, perhaps a quirk of old architecture, but worth noting so you know what to expect. Overall, we would probably stay again for the fun game room and awesome location, but I wouldn't go out of my way. Service is a big deal to us!

Yelp
I reserved a room at Hotel Zeppelin in early Jan 2023. This was the time that a serious storm had hit the coast of California, primarily N. CA. Streets were flooded and the state issued a NO travel warning a day before my stay. I contacted the property as soon as I was aware of the conditions and they were extremely unhelpful and ended up charging me for the night without regard for the extreme and dangerous conditions. This type of business practice is outrageous and should not be overlooked when considering a stay at this hotel. If all is well, you may get treated ok, but watch out if things come up and you need them to act with integrity. You will get none!!! DO NOT STAY HERE is the resounding message here.

Yelp
Oh Hotel Zeppelin. How I can't stop telling my friends about this hotel. Zeppelin has one of the funkiest decors I've seen in a hotel. Completely unique and so fitting for a rockstar tribute. Zeppelin is located close to several BART stations, with many places to shop and some amazing places to eat. If you're a foodie, definitely find yourself reserving this hotel as we found 4 amazing restaurants within 3 blocks. Luckily Zeppelin doesn't sit on a steep hill like many home in San Fran do. If you are immune to cardio, this is a good location. The rooms were very clean, with comfortable beds, spacious bathrooms and a good size closet to store luggage. My favorite part of the hotel was the lobby area as there is plenty of comfortable seating, mixed drinks given as a refresher and of course, the bar. My wife and I sat i the lobby plenty of times people watching on the street, engaging in conversation over a cocktail or just killing a little time. In the basement is the game area where you can play skeeball, basketball, pool, giant connect 4 or just chill and watch sporting events. Seriously impressive game area, especially when no one is around to crowd your space. Overall I would totally stay at Zeppelin again given the location, great customer service and over all experience. Thanks Zeppelin & staff!

Yelp
Don't let the nice decor fool you, if only the feeling you left with were as pleasingly satisfying. When I pay for a ticket to see a movie and sit down in the theater, I expect to see the movie that I payed for, without having to confirm with several people that the movie I payed for will be playing. When I pay for a hotel room with a tub, I expect to arrive after my long day of travel to my hotel room with a tub, this is not the case at Hotel Zeppelin. INSTEAD, I arrive after a long day of travel to check in and have the women at the desk actually tell me "We have upgraded your room for free, congratulations!" And from that point, to when I flipped on the lights in the bathroom of my "upgraded" room, I knew there wasn't going to be a bath tub in there. STRIKE ONE. I immediately go back down to the front desk and they tell me they are fully booked with rooms that are tubs and that "you must make a special request for a room with a tub".. um WHAT? So Hotel Zeppelin advertises hotel rooms that feature tubs, and then when you arrive say that they sold your room with a tub to someone else? STRIKE TWO. The man at the desk was busy literally doodling for 20 seconds as I stood there, then offers to send up some wine. I thought well yea definitely do something to make up for this poor experience, I have only been in the hotel for less than 10 minutes and it already sucks. I go back up to my room. About 10 minutes later I get a knock at the door, it's some roadie looking guy in a jean jack with a bottle of wine. He says that everything we need should be in the room, however there is no bottle opener and no glasses. Hey man, how am I to open up this tiny bottle of wine and miserably drink it??? STRIKE THREE. The poor excuse they have for "Room Service" is conveniently accessed through your rooms TV. However all they have available after 6pm is a trash water edamame and $7 water bottles. STIKE FOUR. The next morning at check out, the man at the desk is forcibly friendly, he seems to be asking questions that do not pertain to gauge how my experience was while staying in their hotel, so I flat out disregard his question as to "so what are you plans for the day?" and instead tell him how my awful my experience has been in Hotel Zeppelin. He says he can remove the "$60 AMENITY FEE"??? Thanks for removing that fee, however WE DID NOT USE ANY AMENITIES IN YOUR HOTEL JACKASS! STRIKE FIVE. Another thing to highlight is there is absolutely NO PARKING for Hotel Zeppelin. Instead you are forced to valet for $65 a night. And thanks for automatically including a $15 gratuity on my behalf/credit card Hotel Zeppelin! STRIKE SIX. I realized after driving away, pissed off from the stench Hotel Zeppelin left on my soul, that they have the "Amenity Fee" as cushion for them to use, in the event that a Hotel Zeppelin patron complains about their poor and frustrating experience. Hotel Zeppelin actually produces so many unhappy people, that they had to come up with bargaining chips and have the gall to call it an "AMENITY FEE". I know this to be true, because the 3 patrons that were in front of me as I was checking out ALL had complaints and they ALL were told "We can waive the AMENITY FEE, but that's the most we can do" STRIKE SEVEN Conclusion: Don't stay at Hotel Zeppelin, unless you want to leave the hotel extremely unhappy, frustrated and feeling taken advantage of. Their walls are paper thin, you hear drunk people in the hallway all night. They rob you at any opportunity and use practices like their "Amenity Fee" to weasel their way out of your complaints about the awful experience they provide at a high cost.
