I made a last-minute reservation at this hotel for my visit to West Hollywood. My initial impression was positive. Even though I arrived early, they immediately provided me with a room, which I appreciated.
However, the room I was given faced the garage entrance of the neighboring hotel. With cars constantly entering and exiting 24 hours a day, it felt like I was staying next to a highway. At 7:30 AM, a street cleaner woke me up with a very loud machine. The sound insulation in the rooms is extremely poor. From 5:00 AM onwards, I could clearly hear what sounded like a family with children running around in the room above me. Additionally, my window would not lock, which made me feel unsafe. In short, my first night was completely sleepless.
The next morning, I informed the front desk about the situation. I was told, “We are a city hotel; it’s normal to have a lot of noise here,” and I was moved to a room facing a garden wall. Unfortunately, this new room was dark, received no sunlight, and had a damp smell. Although it was slightly quieter than the previous room, the soundproofing issue continued.
When I tried to use the in-room safe, I realized it was not working. I immediately reported this to reception. I waited for one and a half hours for someone to come and fix it, but no one showed up. When I called again, I was told that the technical staff had finished their shift and they would not be able to assist me. When I explained that I could not leave my passport and valuables unsecured in the room, they initially offered to change my room, but later withdrew that offer and told me I would have to wait until the next day. They ended the call by saying, “There are no theft incidents in our hotel, please trust us.” This was extremely unprofessional. Situations like this should be proactively reported by housekeeping. I had no choice but to leave my valuables in the room and hope for the best.
At night, the corridors smelled strongly of something other than cigarettes. Despite being prohibited, it seemed like some guests were having marijuana parties, as the smell was very intense and noticeable throughout the night.
The ventilation system was also very loud.
The beds were extremely worn out. I tried to sleep while feeling like the springs might break and poke into my back at any moment.
The only complimentary item in the room was bottled water. There was no tea or coffee machine. In the morning, you have to go down to the reception area and pour coffee from the thermoses there. There were not even slippers in the room. Honestly, what century are we living in? These are basic amenities that have become standard in most hotels.
They mentioned there is margarita service between 3:00 and 4:00 PM — of course, if you are willing to interrupt your day and return to the hotel at that specific hour.
The hotel pool is mostly in the shade. If you want to sunbathe, you constantly have to move around. There is also no lifeguard on duty.
In short, my stay at this hotel — which I booked based on the positive reviews — turned into a complete nightmare. As a travel expert and tourism professional who has stayed in many hotels, I can confidently say this is among the worst. Aside from its location, I definitely do not recommend it. There were far better hotels available at the same price.
