"The atmosphere is really cosy in this restaurant, which is charmingly done out in the traditional style typical of the region. The kitchen serves up flavoursome, ambitious dishes with a regional and seasonal focus, as well as the occasional international twist. For overnight guests, this long-standing family-run establishment offers comfortable guestrooms and a spa with a range of facilities and treatments and a swimming pool." - Michelin Inspector

My stay at **Hotel zum Ochsen** in Schönwald im Schwarzwald was an absolute delight from start to finish. The warm, family-run hospitality made me feel like a welcomed guest rather than just a visitor, and every detail of my stay was thoughtfully curated for comfort and relaxation. The Food? Absolutely Incredible! Dining here was a culinary highlight of my trip. Each dish was prepared with fresh, local ingredients and served with genuine care. From the rich, flavorful Black Forest specialties to the generous breakfast spread, every meal was a celebration of regional cuisine. Unwinding in the Courtyard – Pure Bliss One of my favorite moments was relaxing in the peaceful courtyard after dinner, sipping a crisp *Radler* beer as the sun dipped behind the rolling hills. The distant hum of farmers’ tractors baling hay added a charming, rustic soundtrack to the evening—a perfect reminder of the hotel’s idyllic countryside setting. It was the kind of serene, unhurried moment that makes a getaway truly special. Spa & Massages: Total Rejuvenation The spa treatments were heavenly—the massages melted away all tension, and the tranquil wellness area provided the perfect escape. Thoughtful Touches for Modern Travelers As an EV driver, I was grateful for their convenient charging station, making my stay seamless. The hotel strikes a wonderful balance between modern comforts and timeless charm. Rooms: Spacious, Spotless & Serene My room was immaculate, spacious, and beautifully appointed, offering both comfort and a cozy, rustic elegance. Waking up to the fresh forest air and the quiet beauty of Schönwald was pure magic. **Final Verdict** Hotel zum Ochsen is a true gem—where exceptional food, heartfelt hospitality, and peaceful relaxation come together perfectly. Whether savoring a beer in the courtyard, indulging in a spa treatment, or simply enjoying the pristine comfort of the rooms, every moment here felt like a retreat. I can’t wait to return! **An unforgettable 5-star experience!** 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Room was very old fashion, specially the bathroom, very old and dirty (see picture). Furniture too old for a 4 start hotel (sliding door was not fix and sliding to the right). No air conditioning. Not very clean (i found hairs on the pillow). No blinds and curtains not opaque enough to avoid light in the morning. When i finished the bottle of water (courtesy one) the second day, they don't replace it. Carpet smelted badly.|Breakfast was good as well as restaurant.

This was the most comfortable hotel we stayed in in Germany, and it is in such a lovely little town. Quiet, lots of fresh air, our room even had a balcony. The look was old fashioned but with modern conveniences (e.g. elevators). The food in the hotel restaurant was superb. The staff were very nice, friendly and helpful. No complaints at all!

The hotel is situated in a small village along the main road. Free parking is available in front of the hotel. Very friendly welcome and nice staff. The room was clean and spacious although a bit out of date. That counts for the hotel itself, everything looks a bot outdated, but then again this is largely compensated by the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. Good restaurant too, typical German food. You will not leave the table hungry.

Really nice 7th generation owned hotel. The rooms are nice, clean and modern. My room had a nice rain shower head and the towel warmer was nice when drying off. My favorite part of my stay was the large breakfast buffet with nearly anything you could ask for. The amount of tea and jam choices are unrivaled. The restaurant also had delicious food options at night and everything was cooked perfectly. I really enjoyed my stay and would recommend staying here again in the future. The only small issue was my room, 8, was missing a phone.

We are coming since 1988, once in while. During our last visit, because our dog is now old and does not stand to be away from us, we were annoyed by the fact that she could not be with us in the restaurant. Though we understand the "alergy free" policy, would not it be possible to reserve an area in the restaurant for guests with dog. We had to have separate breakfast, my wife and myself, to care for the dog in the room.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The employees at the hotel seemed genuinely happy to have us there as guests. The breakfast was diverse and tasty. The one dinner we had at the restaurant was delicious. The rooms were clean and spacious. We enjoyed visiting with our friends in the sunny atrium area overlooking the grounds.

My friend and I were on a driving holiday and we stopped here for 2 nights. We were met at reception and were shown to two clean and well appointed rooms on the top floor, over looking the gardens to the rear and over and beyond the houses opposite. Dinner that night was superb and expertly prepared by the hotel owner. The waiting staff were all dressed in what I can only assume is the traditional dress for that region. It added a lovely touch of realism and atmosphere. Breakfast was plentiful and the staff helpful and attentive again. Dinner was so good the night before that we had booked again and we were NOT dissapointed. It was another excellent dinner followed by another very well planned and delivered dessert. If I were in this area again I would not hesitate to book this hotel. The staff, Hotel and food were all great and my friend agreed. We both told the owner upon departure that it was a credit to them both. Thank you.
