The Tamale Guy, Claudio Velez, talks about his new restaurant - Eater Chicago

"A few Chicago restaurants have owners who are essential to the experience. Hot Doug’s, owned by Doug Sohn, is in that group, and Velez is, too." - Ashok Selvam

The descendent of the legendary Hot Doug's. The Chicago Dog run through the garden was great. The Duck sausage with fois gras was decadent. Guiness brat tasted too much like beer. Regular friws were soft amd they only have duck fat fries on weekends now.

I had the Bacon Bratwurst it was nicely grilled with a good char interior of Bratwurst was loaded with chunks of bacon! Bacon added nice flavor but the toppings could have been better needs more cheese sauce and maybe grilled onions and a stone ground mustard to back up the sausage. Lettuce and tomato on a Bacon Bratwurst really?

I’ve driven by often and today I stopped, expecting to get a Chicago style hot dog. But then I saw the specials menu. The smoked kielbasa beckoned me! What a delicious surprise! An incredible blend of sweet, savory and smoky. The sausage is topped with caramelized onions, shredded smoked Gouda and a sweet (but not too sweet) Coca-Cola sauce! A perfect combination! Cannot wait to work my way through the entire menu.

If you were unfortunate to never have gone to Hot Doug's when it existed, never fear! While it lacks some of the hot dog paraphernalia that made Hot Doug's charming, Hot "G" Dog has some of the best sausages and fries the city of Chicago has to offer. Whether its a plain, old school, Chicago Red Hot, or one of their awesome specials, you just can't go wrong with this lovely joint in Andersonville.

From some of the staff of Hot Doug's is this fun dog place. Wanted to try their take on the Chicago dog along with their take on gourmet dogs. Had the duck along with cheese fries. Cash only.

I sought this place out based on its reputation and the promise of duck fat fries. I was irritated to discover they are cash only, which is inconvenient, even if they have an ATM inside. The food is elevated street food and the menu has depth. The duck fat fries were not what I hoped, but I can hardly blame the restaurant or staff for my unrealistic expectations. The hot dog was the star of the show, great overall experience. I'll definitely be thinking about this place next time I want a hot dog, provided I have cash on me.

Very unique menu and absolutely worth adding to your list of things to do in Chicago list.
