"Chain restaurant Houlihan’s closed another Chicagoland restaurant, this time in suburban Park Ridge. Management shuttered its city of Chicago location in December 2015 and its Oak Brook location in February 2015. Multiple other suburban locations remain open." - Daniel Gerzina

This was by far one of the most frustrating dining experiences I’ve had. The service was unbelievably slow—it took nearly 20 minutes just to get our drinks, and even longer for the food. When we finally got our meals, they were barely warm and poorly prepared. My dish was overcooked and dry, while my companion’s was completely bland. It’s clear that the quality at this location has gone downhill. The service was inattentive, and getting anything—whether it was a refill or simply our server’s attention—was a struggle. It used to be decent, but after this visit, we won’t be returning. Definitely not worth the time or money.

Went there mid afternoon. Very few people. Our waitress only had us to take care of. When the food finally arrived it was served by another waiter. He dropped the food off and didn't offer condiments and walked away. I had a cheese burger and the lettuce looked disgusting. We will never go back to that location.

Atmosphere and experience are totally fitting for a date night or a family dinner. Our server Lexie was very informative and helped pick out some really good recommendations 5star for her as well. As usual the wife and I started with our drinks and appetizers. Drinks:Mai Thai, raspberry tea, red sangria. Appetizers: firecracker shrimp and Thai chicken wing Entree: petite top sirloin with shrimp and green beans, chicken parmigiana.

My husband and I came here for Happy Hour, it wasn’t my first time visit this location, but the food quality went downhill a lot and I probably won’t come again. We ordered 3 appetizers, the spinach dip I ordered looks like a leftover from other guests, it was only half full when it comes to my table, food scraps on the rim of the bowl, look at the picture, I took it right after the waiter brought it to my table. The ranch dressing for the wings is tasteless and watery. The LIT is a big letdown too. Overall, it a waste of money, time and my mood.

I ordered the filet and it was gray and overdone looked like the cap off a prime rib. It just doesn't look like a filet. It was gross. The mashed potatoes were all right. The green beans very crunchy. I didn't mind that too much but still very very garlicky. Not a place that I would recommend.

This was my first time eating at Houlihans. They have a really friendly wait staff. And that's kind of where the good things stop. Things you should know, sweet ranch dressing, half a can of corn on your salad. Their desserts are beautiful unless you get them to go, then the dynamic changes. I really wanted to like it because I've heard such great things about it but for $65 for 2 people just for lunch I was let down.

Edit: We visited Houlihan's again to try their regular menu. We tried the fish and chips as well as the fish taco, and both were excellent! The fish in the fish and chips was thick, white, and cooked perfectly—flaky and flavorful without being greasy. The fish in the taco was just as impressive, with the same high quality and great taste. Everything was fresh and well-prepared. We decided to dine out for Thanksgiving this year, and while the experience had its highs, there were a few areas where it fell short. Ratings updated. Original Review: First, the turkey was a highlight—moist, flavorful, and exactly what you’d hope for in a Thanksgiving centerpiece. Unfortunately, the gravy left much to be desired. As a self-professed salt-aholic, I was surprised by how overly salty it was, making it hard to enjoy. The sides were a mixed bag. I was hoping for classic mashed potatoes smothered in gravy, but what we got was an ice cream scoop of potatoes and stuffing. My wife enjoyed the potatoes, but they didn’t do it for me. The stuffing was average—not bad, but not memorable either. Dessert was a letdown. The pumpkin pie lacked the rich flavor and texture I’d expect, and it didn’t leave the meal on a satisfying note. On the positive side, the service was extremely friendly and attentive, making the experience feel warm and welcoming. We also noticed other dishes being served that looked very appetizing, giving us hope for a better experience on a regular day. Overall, while Thanksgiving dinner didn’t wow us, we’re willing to give the restaurant another shot outside the holiday hustle.

I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner. The food was great, the atmosphere was inviting and the staff was very helpful and personable. Thank you for a great experience. Just a suggestion. As a new comer to the area I never could tell what the name of the restaurant was because on three of the four sides of the restaurant where the name is located, tress are blocking the sign. The only one fully visible is the on the front of the restaurant. Thanks again for a wonderful dinning experience.

Yelp
The food was excellent! We came for HaPpy Hour and enjoyed the wonderful service from "Katie" ...she was very efficient friendly and quick to service drinks and our food! We will return soon! Tks!

Yelp
Greeting from the host was warm and inviting, the gentleman had a nice smile and positive attitude. Our server on the other hand, she couldn't care less about her customers or her tips! She left us unattended for 90% of our visit which frustrated me beyond belief! It's never the hosts responsibility to hunt down a server but she literally left us with no other choice. I chose to come to Houlihan's specifically for their mock-tail offerings, they have two. Both were horrendous!!! I had informed the server at the very beginning of our visit that I would like to order soup after having my drinks, she took all of our menus, dirty dishes, etc at one point and just never returned.

Yelp
My friends and I visited around Christmas time. The food was a hit or miss but our server was very helpful and informative. Place was clean and quiet.

Yelp
Food - French Onion Soup may be best in town but for French Market/Cafe Provence Service - Good at the bar at least Ambiance - Dark Bar vibes Came back on 8/28/24 for ONLY the french onion soup (avoid the Mac and Cheese) this time. Delivered well for a quick mid-afternoon bite with an Iced tea of sorts. Great soft in-the-broth croutons, and caramelized onions, plenty of seared cheese on top and around the bowl, great broth taste.

Yelp
I wanted a light lunch and decided to try the soup and salad option. I started with fried mushrooms which were ok. The filling was a bit salty but when combined with the mushroom and the batter it was a nice balance. I didn't like the dipping sauce at all. The salad was good with crisp veggies and the dressing on the side so I could control how much is used. The loaded potato soup was very salty. The soup base itself tasted like pure salt and nothing else. The toppings made it a little better but I couldn't finish the bowl. I switched to the chicken tortilla soup which wasn't salty but had no real flavor. Maybe I should have ordered an entree instead of soup because based on this experience I won't be back. My server was great! He's the reason I gave my experience 3 stars.

Yelp
This was our second visit this month to Houlihan's & we feel like we found our favorite chain restaurant here. Service both times was fantastic. We have 2 little kids & have felt very comfortable there with them, plus, their kids meal comes with ice cream, which is nice. Food wise, we have ordered appetizers of Seared Ahi, Fancy Fried Cheese & Avocado Chicken Eggrolls. The Fried Cheese is so good with the sauces it comes with. My husband ordered Fish & Chips, which comes with really interesting fries, they are like little clouds. The tartare sauce is so good. The bonus here is they give you a scratch off at the end of your meal, it's guarantied to give you either $10 off, free dessert or free appetizer on your next visit!

Yelp
We went to Houlihans today for an early Mother's Day dinner and for Happy Hour. We sat in the bar area inside and had a great server named Peter, we appreciated his service and asking if we would like any more items before Happy Hour was over! We had dinner as well and I appreciate that they have gluten free buns. I had their French Dip with a gluten free bun and their sweet potato fries with ranch dip. My meal was pretty good, the meat was a little tougher than I would have liked. My husband had their wings that are always excellent. He had a white sangria that was good and I had their mango ginger martini which is excellent. The sound level is normal and we sat in a corner booth so it was especially nice. I like that they have indoor and outdoor seating.

Yelp
Our last visit to Houlihan's was last February to celebrate my acceptance into grad school. Beating the rain storms and homecoming crowd, we stopped in for a late lunch/early dinner: Location: 8/10 Houlihan's is Oak Park Mall's neighbor and while the location is ideal, it is almost always crowded. If you don't mind waiting and a more laid back crowd, Cheddars may be a better option. For an early Saturday evening, it surprisingly was not crowded. As we were paying, that changed with the homecoming crowds trickling in. Customer Service: 9/10 Mars took our drink order but another waiter took care of us the remainder of the visit. We did not get his name, but he was pleasant and offered great dining options. He displayed a great attitude and rapport with the customers and seemed to genuinely enjoy his job. His joy was infectious and positively impacted our visit. The hostess was also very nice and accommodating, which was refreshing. Food: 5.5/10 We immediately noticed the menu and how pared down it was compared to our last visit. We found the options were limiting and had a hard time choosing. I opted for the Thai chicken wings and fries. Hubby got the KC burger with fries. Sadly, the wings were overcooked and drowning in the Thai sauce. The fries were crispy and fresh. Hubby was not a fan of the KC burger with barbacoa on it. It was cooked well but he felt the flavors were not a good pairing. For dessert, we got the caramel butter cake and ice cream. It was decent and not too much. I would get it again. Our total meal with tip was $60. The price for the food was definitely not worth it. Bathroom: 2/10 I usually do not comment on restaurants bathrooms, but the bathroom was aesthetically confusing. The sink counter was wood and the faucet was not automatic. It also looked like water was thrown all over the sink and one soap dispenser was broken. There was also water on the floor from other people dripping water on the floor, which made it slippery. Eek. Overall: 6.5/10 This was an underwhelming visit. Last year, the wings looked and tasted way better. The fries carried the meal, as did the dessert. Service was awesome, especially our waiter and everyone worked well together. Not sure if we will be back.

Yelp
Never again for this event.. Seating was fine, people were polite, but the food was institutional, at best. I have enjoyed much better meals while in the hospital. I ordered the turkey special which was clearly a mistake. I am searching for something nice to say about the food, but unable to do so. I will avoid this establishment in the future.

Jessica F.

Yelp
Love the Houlihan's veggie burger which is made in house. The crunchy spicy cauliflower bites are delicious but spicy. Ordered the veggie butternut squash pasta but got the version with sausage. Since I ordered takeout was stuck with it. Even picking out the meat whole dish tasted sausage so did not like.

Yelp
Arrived at Houlihan's one hour before close. The restaurant was clean & pretty typical to others like Applebees or Outback Steakhouse. My partner & I sat and tried to order quickly. Our waiter was attentive & swift in taking care of service. Unfortunately there was something odd about the timing of our meals. Though the venue was nearly empty of patrons, it had taken about a half hour before we got our food. Order placed around 9:15pm served to our table by about 9:45pm. Our food (though pretty basic & simple) was of quality standard & delicious. I would recommend this restaurant, however be wary of arriving when it's at least an hour before closing. (I had the chicken parmesan, partner had Kansas City burger- photos included)

Yelp
Visited here for a weekday lunch for KC Restaurant Week and had a pretty good experience! The hostess opened the interior door for us and greeted us right away. She was very friendly and gave us the option of a high top or low table. The high top seating was relatively comfy which to me most high tops end up being an un-comfy stool with no padding. Our server was a nice guy and did a great job through our whole meal. Between the two of us we ordered: the Chicken Tortilla Soup & Roasted Tomato Bisque for Course 1; So. Cal Fish Tacos and Brentwood Chicken Sandwich for Course 2; and the Vanilla Bean Cheesecake and Crème Brûlée for Course 3. The tomato bisque was very hearty, well seasoned, and I loved the grilled cheese fritters! My mom said the tortilla soup was a little bland but had good ingredients. The fish tacos were about what I expected but that is not a dig - they were prepared well and had a great taste! The tortilla chips were warm and salted perfectly but the salsa was just too sweet with no spice. The chicken sandwich was huge and pretty standard. The cheesecake was rich, thick, and had a nice balance of caramel and cheesecake flavor. And of course the brûléed vanilla cream really elevated it! The Crème Brûlée was so delicious and had that iconic crispy top. I will say it had a more subtle if not duller flavor than most that I've had but overall, it was really fantastic! Overall, we had a really good lunch here at Houlihan's and even though I visit here maybe yearly, I usually expect this kind of experience. The food is always really good and I don't think I've ever had bad service here. It is nice that they are one of the participating restaurants for Restaurant Week and they give a 3 course lunch that includes Crème Brûlée!

Yelp
Tried this for happy hour and was not impressed. I ordered the Raspberry LIT drink. It had rum, vodka, gin, and house-made sour in it. It was extremely sweet. I did not taste any alcohol in it. We also shared the Spinach Dip. It was just okay. The chips were old and covered in grease. It was like we got the crumbs at the bottom. The overall atmosphere was sleek. The service was good. Our waiter always came at the right time to make a refill.

Rochelle F.

Yelp
We eat here often because we love the food. Great service! Especially from our favorite server Amelia. She's always friendly and remembers our preferences from one visit to the next.

Anna L.

Yelp
Outer towner, came to this place in need of food!! Gotta say Tao was awesome, & the food was delicious!! 2thumbs up!

Kelsey A.

Yelp
We came in for the happy hour the other day, the bar happy hour is from 3-7pm and 3-5pm on the dinning room side. I did notice the menus were sticky and I had to wipe them down. The drinks we ordered were very sweet, we tried to order a variety of things to give it a chance but I was not impressed. The price seems right during happy hour but I would not pay full price for these drinks. There is little to no alcohol in them. The restaurant did have a modern look and it overall looks clean. Just watch out for those sticky menus.

Yelp
I have sO much to say about my experience a couple of days ago when ordering take out. I come here for years even before it relocated across the street into the Mall area, and loved it for its fun..food..and service. All are now lacking @ this location now. When I walked in Monday it was pretty dead w/ a few people watching the game. There was NO hostess there to greet you, and after standing there for 8mins while the few servers working (2 that I saw) continuously saw me and offered NO assistance. A few minutes later, a elderly couple came in behind me and since NO one seemed interested customers we chatted awhile about this is NOT the way an establishment is run...where is the Manager we asked? After 13mins a woman who working the left side of the restaurant when walking into the restaurant, finally came over. She then looked right at me but sat the couple behind me first though I was there first!! It gets worse. She on top oof that NEVER said a word to me Not even welcome to Houlihan's!! Are you kidding me?The was NO kindness, happiness, even warm smile from her, and NOT just to me but the couple whom she sat!? After another 5mins finally came over to me. I let her know that I was there for take out and handedher my money. She Never smiled. After 9 more minutes I managed to flag down someone else and demand my money , I was tRuly over this! 4mins later the original blonde server returned..handed me my money..and proceeded to place my food on top of the Hostess stand..and then turned and walked away! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Where did this person learn customer service from?? Is this what has happened to this establishment?? And if things could get any worse..the wasn't as good as usual..bummer. I'll be going to the one in Leawood from now on.

Yelp
Hit up Houlihan's for a work event in the hopes to hangout in the bar area that runs happy hour specials 3-7p M-F. We had a group of 9 people and most of our party arrived early before dinner crowd rush on a rainy Wed evening. Was super disappointed by the managers gruff demeanor towards us. She came across very aggressive and stated every rule expectation for the bar area. "The tables can't be moved, no adding chairs from other tables, no standing by tables, any additional people showing up that required an additional table would be first come first serve and they'd wait in line, no saving tables". Mind you, we were not a rowdy group and did not have a problem with rules. Just looking for a bite to eat/drink. It made several of us feel uncomfortable and desire to spend our money elsewhere. In the end we stayed and were able to sit at two tables within the bar. Positive note, the happy hour specials were great for both food and drinks. The $5 burger was full of flavor and I'd totally recommend.

Melissa P.

Yelp
Sat and waited FOREVER for a server. Finally ordered food, house salad was old brown iceberg lettuce, daughter had salmon that was tasteless, mashed potatoes flavorless. Don't know how these guys stay in business, horrible service, horrible food.

Greg R.

Yelp
Great spot to eat. Especially if shopping in the area. Clean establishment with nice decor inside and even a few televisions for those wanting to watch the game. Nice patio area to eat outside as well. Unique menu with different options then your typical chain restaurant. Nice drink menu as well. Food came out hot and quick. Staff was very attentive. Manager does a great job. Try the Fire cracker shrimp, wings, fried stuffed mushrooms and the Creme brûlée.

Brittany W.

Yelp
Our experience here tonight was amazing! From the time we walked in the door to the time we left. Our server London was beyond amazing. She was patient kind and very attentive. She conversed with us gave ideas on what to order. The manager Brian was also very kind and checked to make sure we were good multiple times. If I could give 10 stars I would! Big thanks to the General Manager John Swenson as well!

Foogie W.

Yelp
The food remains phenomenally delish! The Thai wings, house salad & chicken nachos were a recent choice & I cannot EVER stop in without getting the wings. I could literally eat them daily. Omgudness. Eyan was superb in serving us & sharing some of his food tips. Nicest young man ever...I'm sure he was 'raised right'. The ambiance was so enjoyable! It was very relaxing & refreshing...just what I needed that day. Nothing like a totally more than pleasant dining experience. Please continue your fantabulous reputation for great food, service & ambiance & success will follow you. Houlihans, my 'Must have' on a regular!

Harold K.

Yelp
This was one of the best experiences at Houlihans on 95th in Overland Park, KS. We had the same waitress as the week before and she just continues to get better. Both my wife, my son-in-law and I had the chicken piccata and it was the best, moist and extremely flavorable. Keep up the good work. Harold

Dana M.

Yelp
Ordered the Giant Cheesy Tots and the So.Cal Fish Tacos w/ Sweet Potato Fries. The tacos get 3! They were crispy and full of flavor. The potatoes on the other hand were bland. The tots- "Giant"? Meh. "Cheesy"? No and if they ever were then deep frying them killed the cheese. The dips were the only reason they were edible. The sweet potatoes lacked seasoning and even with the sauce they weren't good. Sticking with the mashed potatoes and green beans next time

Sephereno B.

Yelp
Amazing service!! Caché was our server and she did amazing! Food was good, but the service really made our experience!! If you want a nice time and great helpful suggestions with any questions you want answered, request her. Made my special date with my wife even more fun!! Will be back!!

John B.

Yelp
An interesting lunch at Houlihan's -- the food was average, the service was very good, their weekend happy hour policy is ridiculousness. The details: our party of four sat in the restaurant, it was mid Sunday afternoon. Soups and salads and Spinach Dip were ordered. Most of the food was ok, except the potato soup, not good. The Spinach Dip was very tasty. The issue of the day was their weekend happy hour policy which didn't allow happy hour in the restaurant on Saturday and Sunday. I ask the manager why they would serve happy hour M-F in the restaurant, but not on Sat. & Sun. He couldn't say why, it was just their policy. He was not helpful and seemed has if he didn't care. Houlihan's has been removed from my list off good places to eat.

Desirea F.

Yelp
Peter provides amazing service and is so kind! Drinks are great and environment is even better!

Jan F.

Yelp
The food was, as usual, really good BUT, the service was AS ALWAYS, phenomenally with our regular waitress Amelia. She goes out of her way to make sure we are taken care of and she remembers out drinks and food from memory. Highly recommended.

Amy L.

Yelp
Our server Amy was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! She was super attentive and very funny. We will definitely be back and will ask for her!

Akeeley S.

Yelp
Amelia was great! It was our family's first time as we just moved into the area. Thank you for the great service!

Stuart B.

Yelp
Over 90 minutes to receive our dinner. The sea food was over cooked and rubbery. The waiter didn't refill our drinks for well over an hour. The food was over priced, over cooked, and the service simply bad. An expensive two hour ordeal that will be avoided in the future. Do not waste your time and money eating here.

Judi V.

Yelp
We went to Houlihans again for Thanksgiving and it was wonderful! They didn't raise their prices from last year! We sat in a booth in the bar and it was quiet and the service was outstanding! The food was plentiful and excellent as usual! The only criticism was that they didn't have any cranberry salad!

Jack K.

Yelp
Great experience tonight. Our food was amazing especially the buffalo chicken wings. Get them extra crispy. The best part of the night was our server Amy. One of the best we have had in a long time. Ask for her section. Super patient and we were well taken care of. 11 out of 10. Great family dinner experience.

Amari L.

Yelp
If I could give them a zero I definitely would. Sorry my review wouldn't fit in the box. My order: grilled salmon with asparagus and caesar salad.

R W.

Yelp
Good waitress, ordered French dip, bun was toasted black with two thin slices of meat, plate ice cold as we're the French fries. Sent the food back. French dip sandwich still crap, fry's now hot. Won't be back!

Mandy B.

Yelp
Can't ever go wrong with the stuffed chicken and the firecracker shrimp!!! They could use a manager that goes around asking how things are and to check on the look of the dining room cause the servers are running their butts off!

Patrick C.

Yelp
You've been to one you've been to all. Typical American cuisine. Good service and happy hour.

DaNeatra B.

Yelp
Service from Krislyn was amazing: had recommendations for drinks when what we wanted was out; service was quick and friendly; couldn't ask for a better server!!

G O.

Yelp
I loved this restaurant one time but it's changed. The wait staff is sort of annoying kind with a sarcastic attitude. I don't need the act and fake smile, just be real - don't need the "yes sir" thing too! The food is going down hill too, the cooks don't follow a consistent recipe, I get a different version each time I'm there. Fish Tacos - only two and a fish stick inside - a small one too. After all - the prices are getting very high! Watched all the long bearded staff handling food carelessly and I think there should be more professionalism there in appearance . Some shaved headed bearded guy rubbing his nose reached up to the where they keep the food warm - stuck his hand grabbed some food and ate it walking by - WTF! Please don't vacuum under my table or next to me while I'm there - that's rude! Are you finished - I have boxes for - there's still one hour before you close! Not impressed anymore.

Tim D.

Yelp
Went tonight. It's different then it used to be. My wife's chicken was undercooked and the waitress confirmed it. My martini was 1/2 full. After they recooked the chicken it was cool to the touch. There were 4 of us and its just gone downhill. There are other choices out there and not surprised they have closed around KC. Kansas Citians have higher expectations of a good restaurant.

Johnny R.

Yelp
One of the few chains I had never been to. The food was pretty good. I had the fish and chips and they were great! A tad bit heavy but still great nonetheless. We ordered donuts but they were very sour and not good. The service was very good and the people serving us were friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was good and relaxing. Overall great for a chain restaurant.

Anita H.

Yelp
I ordered the fish and chips, it was delicious, light breading not heavy or greasy, light flaky fish. The service was great!

Vanessa S.

Yelp
Amy was amazing!!! She was so pleasant and attentive! She made our girls night the BEST!!! Thank you so much!!

Jon O.

Yelp
Amy is a fantastic server. The has a great sense of humor and took good care of our party. Food was delicious!

Joseph B.

Yelp
Amy was our server tonight. She was outstanding and took great care of us. The food was delicious as well.

Teresa C.

Yelp
Wendy was an amazing server. Great service and food. We got the dumplings and cheeseburger. Would highly recommend! The ambiance was nice and dim, perfect for a dinner with friends.

Debbie S.

Yelp
So I ordered Door Dash and paid for expedited delivery. The delivery was timely and the driver was friendly. My problem was with the food. The chicken was still pink. Not red but just a slight tinge. This is unacceptable. The fries were cold. I did talk to a manager. She was apologetic and explained that since it was a Door Dash order the best she could do was give me a free appetizer the next time I came in. The fries she said are hard to keep warm especially when it's delivered. I understand that but if you know that its a quality issue why would you offer it on the menu for delivery. I've had fries from other places and none of them were cold. Like they had been sitting awhile. I spent upwards of 30 on my order including tip. I don't feel like this was a 30 meal. I should have stuck with my meal shake I brought from home. I will not be ordering Houlihan's delivery again. Buyer beware, be careful of expediting your food! Comes with a health risk and a side of gross!

Dalene T.

Yelp
Myself and five friends were at your restaurant last Friday , Dec. 1, 2023. It was happy hour and we sat in the bar. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was happy and bustling, as many bars are. Everything was good except our waitress. Cathy L. seemed to be annoyed from the start of our visit until we left. Her attitude was grimacing every time she came to our table. She was unfriendly and curt. At one point she slammed a water glass onto the table and we all jumped. I'm sorry you don't like your job Cathy L. The service industry can be a tough gig but our group was nothing but cordial to you.
