Spending a day taking in the highlights of Sacramento can work up a visitor's appetite. Especially if that visitor was me who was not looking forward to a two-hour drive back home. I was parked near the Capitol Mall, so this looked as good an option as any in the area. In truth, I was looking for more of a family-run place with homestyle food from their native country. This wouldn't be it. Far from it actually.
This struck me as a suit-friendly, happy hour-focused restaurant where people meet to more likely broker deals than break bread. I was here before 5PM, so they weren't particularly focused on service as they were preparing for the dinner rush. I had to wave my arm to get some attention, so I knew they weren't breaking any land speed records. I tried two items on their by-the-numbers menu, the first being the $9 Deviled Eggs.
They're a personal weakness for me as I can wolf them with abandon. Six halves were the right quantity, but they sadly had a refrigerated flavor (photo: https://bit.ly/3IM25N6). Better was the $18.50 Thai Chicken Salad, a virtual mountain of chicken, Napa cabbage, shredded carrot, edamame, red pepper, scallions, peanuts, and wonton crisps (photo: https://bit.ly/3XrBNDQ). A generous portion indeed though not the most creative execution. Oh well.
FOOD - 3 stars...really suit-targeted bar bites
AMBIANCE - 3 stars...spacious modern space but somewhat inhospitable
SERVICE - 2.5 stars...not quite attentive to solo diners before happy hour
TOTAL - 3 stars...yeah, not really my House
