It seems that there are two “house of fortune”s; this one supposedly representing the old ownership and appears to have had better reviews; mine corresponds to the new ownership: my first visit was definitely the last! The service was weak (although not busy our server was constantly distracted, watching tv, and we had to call him a few times before receiving attention). The food was inexplicably bad. Can’t believe we spend like 40 bucks on the seafood bowl (picture). Although the portion was quite generous, the quality was absolutely horrible. The restroom was not clean. I‘d suggest this place to whoever I deeply hate!

Wow!! That fried rice...wow! It was delicious. Food was excellent. Service was excellent. Staff is just so nice. We had several dishes to try, including meat, dumplings and noddle soup. All od them very good. 100% recommended this Chinatown restaurant.

I never thought it was possible to botch Chinese food in Chinatown... This was probably one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had. We ordered drinks and they never arrived, we ordered rice, it never showed. We ordered Wonton soup which was actually good. Then we ordered Sweet and sour chicken and General Tso's chicken which, we ordered not spicy. The sweet and sour chicken showed up absolutely burnt to a crisp spent way too long in the fryer and was rock hard, harder than the fortune cookies! (see the pic that burnt up red/brown thing inside is supposed to be chicken) The general tso's arrived very spicy even though we had requested no pepper or spice in it so the kids could eat it. After the waitress brought our food she completely disappeared for the remainder of our meal and we had to flag down others for service. We asked for a replacement general tso's which they refused and said we would have to pay again, we asked for some more Tea. Which he gave us but he just refilled the pot with hot water and left the old tea bag in it so we in essence got hot water and a used up tea bag. We then waited about 45 minutes for our check after asking for it. I would never come here again, this is one of the last restaurants on "The Strip" and for good reason, all the others seem to be consistently good so eat elsewhere!

Since I found house of fortune I haven't gone anywhere else for Chinese food. The food is good, the chicken isn't stringy. I never feel like I get a piece I can't eat. If you go with four people get three entrees. Also the cocktails are like four dollars and super delicious. You go in and the owner is almost always working smiling from behind the bar. It just feels like a nice place that the workers have pride in. If it's open and you aren't looking for dim sum or hot pot I recommend this place.

I have shared my experience on Yelp. Just sharing it here as well. A group of us was heading for Sichuan Cuisine across the street and saw this newly opened restaurant that is related to Sichuan Cuising. We decided to give it a try: the worst decision I have made in Chicago Chinatown. In my 10 plus years of eating in Chinatown (as a Chinese), this is the worst food experience I have had. I am not the kind to care a lot about service. The servers can be rude, but if the food is good, I forgive it all. But this place has bad food and is almost a total rip-off, along with shockingly bad service. I was prepared for the portion to be small, but we were all shocked when we see the tiniest soup dumpling (xiao long bao) we have ever seen: each is the size of a water bottle cap. I wish I took some picture. They are also brown in color!! I asked two different waitresses why they are brown. One told me that I would have to ask the chef. The other said there might be some ingredients in the flour she is not sure about. Forget about any soup in them. One word: gross! Overall, all dishes come in the size of Cantonese dim sum or smaller, but the prices are way more expensive than Cantonese dim sum: around $6 per dish rather than around $3 for a dim sum dish. The service is horrible even by Chinatown standard. One woman brought a wrong dish and then she came back in a minute and said: can I just add this to your check? Absolutely, no! I had to go to the back myself to look for some bowls after failing to get them from the servers. I hate to write a review like this because I sincerely liked the related restaurant Sichuan Cuisine across the street and always recommended that as the number one authentic Sichuan place in Chinatown.

Been coming here for 15 years. Just had 23 people there for a wonderful lunch. Not one complaint and the owner chose the luncheon dishes for us. Great place..stay away from the tourist traps farther north up the street and in the new China town north of 22nd street.

This is a solid hotpot joint. The all you can eat option should please us greedy Americans. There are "premium" options available for additional cost. The broths are really good. If you want to try the numbing broth, I'd recommend going half and half, especially if you haven't tried numbing peppers before. Staff was really friendly and attentive.
