"While the COVID-19 pandemic forced the closure of this jazz venue’s location in downtown Montreal, their Laval address carries on their legacy for singers and songwriters playing swing, smooth, bebop, and more. It’s a great spot for dinner and a show with dishes like braised lamb shanks, burrata salad and tuna tataki, but patrons can just share a bottle while they listen in as well." - JP Karwacki

We had a great time at The House of Jazz! The food was absolutely delicious and the cocktails were amazing — perfectly balanced and beautifully presented. Although our reservation wasn’t honored as expected and we were seated upstairs in a more hidden area, the staff made it up to us with two rounds of shots, which we really appreciated. The live show was truly impressive and full of energy, adding so much to the overall experience. That said, the space does feel a bit overwhelming — there’s a lot going on visually, which can make it hard to fully relax and take it all in. Still, the combination of great food, drinks, and music makes it a unique spot worth visiting!

We had an amazing time at House of Jazz in Laval for a group party! The atmosphere was fantastic—live music set the perfect vibe for an unforgettable night. One Love Project was hosting the musician jam night, and the talent on stage was incredible. The mix of musicians kept things fresh and exciting, making for a truly special experience. Beyond the music, the ambiance of the venue is something else! The chandeliers and unique decor give the place a vintage, upscale feel that makes it stand out. It’s a setting that feels both elegant and lively, perfect for a night out. The food and drinks did not disappoint! Their burger was absolutely delicious, and the drinks were well-crafted and hit the spot. The service was friendly and attentive, making sure our group had everything we needed. If you’re looking for a place with great live music, a one-of-a-kind atmosphere, and fantastic food and drinks, House of Jazz is a must-visit. We’ll definitely be back!

Wow wow wow. Where do I even begin. This is the single best jazz club I’ve ever had the opportunity to go to. The place is simply fabulous and looks like it’s straight out of a movie of some kind. I was greeted by the owner and an employee and they accompanied me to my reservation spot. While we were going to the second floor where u was meant to enjoy my meal, I was able to take a quick glance around me and see a panoply of well decorated spaces with specific lights creating an even more interesting and jazzy atmosphere. I never would’ve thought a bright gem like that one could have been hiding right there in plain sight. We had originally made a reservation for 9 people and we had requested to be put in a little room. The room will be in the videos and it was gorgeous as well. I had been there before and never even knew that it existed. The staff came regularly to ensure we were all ready to order and just to see if there was anything they could help us with. The food took an average time of 27 minutes to arrive, and I must say that it is extremely impressive that it was done so quickly seeing as we had all ordered different kinds of meals and were still served at around the same time. My meal was well plated and the tastes simply embraced my tongue like a warm and nice hug. They were gentle and agressive, offering a wide array of various sensations and flavours which all complemented one another so perfectly. I was amazed. One thing that is important to note is the price of your entry. It was 15$ more per person because we had to pay for the band and frankly I’d have paid them much more for how good they played. Then there’s also something you must look at. Just make sure you are aware that the price of the shots are marked for individual shots and not for the whole round. One of my friends hadn’t picked up on that little subtlety and was quite shocked once the bill arrived. Other than that, excellent everything. I’m super glad I got to be there and enjoy myself with my friends. 10/10 would recommend

Negative: Really poor service. We had to wait over three hours to get our food. Apparently, there was some internal miscommunication, but no one bothered to inform us. We had to follow up multiple times ourselves. The manager was rude and didn’t even care to speak with us. In the end, they waived the $15 fee for the show, which we could barely see from our seats anyway. The food was also far from impressive. Positive: The band was amazing! The singers and musicians were truly talented, and the entertainment was top-notch. That was definitely the highlight of the evening. Overall: I won’t be going back. When we voiced our concerns, the manager simply said, “We’re sorry we couldn’t meet your expectations, but our other clients are satisfied.” Not the kind of customer service that encourages a return visit.

Came here to celebrate a birthday with 30-40 other people in which we all had been seated on the second floor which makes sense due to the size of the group. The food was pretty good but not the best. It's unfortunate some of our food was served somewhat on the colder side which wasn't nice. The steak was cooked well as well as the fish. The calamari was nice and crispy. The prices seem decent although a drop on the higher side especially for the fish.... Where things go a little downhill is, if a restaurant wants to have live music, please don't reflect the cost on the customers through a cover charge. I was surprised that it wasn't just put into the prices of the menu. Don't get me wrong, the music was great but just really really loud... I was seated on the second floor and i had to raise my voice to talk to people at the table.

The ambiance was nice plus the service was fairly quick. The food was not superb, we got the brisket but it came out a bit too salty for our liking. Overall a good place for listening to some Jazz and sipping on a bottle of wine.

Google
The service was friendly and the atmosphere was nice. However, it took an entire HOUR to receive our appetizers. What’s worse, the table next to us ordered 20 minutes after we did and still got their food 30 minutes before us. For the price we paid, I definitely expected better. We had to ask the waiter about our order before getting any explanation otherwise, who knows how much longer we would’ve waited. The food smelled great but tasted just average, and honestly, it was disappointing. The restaurant wasn’t even busy when we arrived, so there’s no excuse for such a delay. Our waiter tried to make up for it afterwards, but by then it was too late. We left no tip. Do better.

Yelp
Food was not good and too expensive for the poor quality. I had the duck leg, it was dry and hard. Very small portions. Good service despite how busy it was. We were charged $10 extra per person for the band but we were not informed beforehand. In the end it just ended up being extremely loud inside with all the conversations and music at the same time.

Yelp
Liked the ambiance , liked the music , great food . Amazing decor overall, the performer had a great voice, however it was short . We did enjoy the food ( we had a complete 5 courses menu) the sea food ravioli is to die for . The service was slow and chaotic. Had the main dish before my appetizer. Forgot the drinks and had to remind the server about it. We had tip calculate for us and written on the bill. I do generally tip well but i don't like to be forced. Not cheap for an evening but we did enjoy it. 4 stars for the music and food 3 stars for the price and service.

Yelp
They refused to serve us water by the glass citing non-existing regulation preventing restaurants from serving water by the glass due to Covid. Obviously lying to make money selling bottled water. We had 2 steaks and a bottle of wine. We were going to have desserts and another round of drinks. I continued the night somewhere else AND had my glass of water. They will never see a cent from me or my friends again. I feel very bad for the restaurants during Covid but alas some establishments don't deserve anything good to happen to them. Take your business somewhere else if you don't accept to be weaseled.

Yelp
I just downloaded the yelp app just to complain about this place. Walking in, the decor was amazing and we were supper excited for our night. We came as a group of 25 for my uncle's 50th so they sat us upstairs in the back room. Service was so slow. We couldn't get service for drinks for the life of us. Our food was a set meal and we received it in periods of 45-1hr intervals. By the time we got our main meal, All of us were full. Not only that, most of us didn't even receive our meals. When my brother said he didn't want his anymore (everyone had finished their meals) the waitress gave us a snarky remark saying it was in the kitchen. Sorry but if my food is has been "in your kitchen" for 45 min, I especially don't want it anymore. Plus everything was terrible. Ribs were bland and dry, chicken was black and they forgot my moms bocaccio cheese in her gnocchi so they brought it after. My cousin had to serve us water since no one came after the main meal. Our table was by lockers which they apparently lock booze in for customers? What the hell is that. We had a group of two drunk men and two drunk women search for their locker for 30 minutes right beside our table. When that was over, my uncles cake came. After 30 minutes my aunt had to politely ask if they could cut and serve it to us on dessert plates!! They didn't bring spoons or plates for us, just the cake. Ridiculous and so disappointing. Hire more workers to help the staff that's obviously struggling. Either change your menu to good food or turn it into a tapas menu so we can actually be hungry for the $30 meal we ordered. Not happy.

Yelp
Nice place. Nice people. Jazz concert and food was so so. The price is a little too expensive compared to the food we received.

Yelp
Excellent decor and music, the ambiance is spectacular! Food wise, I had the filet mignon hamburger and I loved it, fries taste better than what they look like on the pictures. Service was a tad clumsy, the lady accidently dropped a glass of wine on my friend and the other male waiter nearly dropped the entire plate on the table. Despite the clumsinessthe staff was very nice and friendly.

Yelp
I went here several times. Music is good, but the food is not always great. I would come back just to listen to the bands and have a drink.

Yelp
Cool new spot in Laval with cool vibes, wacky decor and live music. Disclaimer: review is based on a table d'hote menu from Valentine's Day, so I can't speak about its everyday menu. The table d'hote menu that night was very well thought out and put creative twists on foods to -up- the romance, so to speak. It was a bit of a hit and miss with the food, but ultimately the experience didn't warrant anything less than four stars. I started with a light salad. This was less than two weeks ago and I can safely say I don't remember a thing about this salad except that it was green. I think it was good? Second course was the escargots with the phyllo dough pastry concoction. Beautifully presented but didn't taste nearly as good. Remember the movie It Takes Two with the Olsen twins? Where one of them goes to a cocktail party, walks around and gets offered an escargot? And then she spits it out and says something along the lines of "ew why does this taste like balloon!" That about sums this course up. Mid-meal cleanse: A grapefruit/banana sorbet in a shot glass. COOL. Got to rid the balloon taste from my mouth. Mains: Thank god. Nice chunk of beef with great mashed potatoes and some bacon. Just great. Good protein makes up for everything. Dessert: French Almond cake. Thank god again. 2 for 2. This cake was simple, no fuss, and delicious. The live music was really amazing. Great pianist and cellist, doing their thing. Had no idea what they played until their very last song, which was the charlie brown song. Also, props to the resto for going around and passing out roses to the men to give to their ladies. Nice touch. Crowd-wise: I felt like a little boy with his kindergarten girlfriend, so it was a little bit of an older crowd. Whatever. I'll still be back for drinks.

Yelp
Love the atmosphere and music of this place so was looking forward to bringing my sister and her husband that were visiting from Ontario. Yep we bought Groupon and made reservations for our special table. Got there no table, Gino seemed confused and stressed hardly looked at us after he found us another seat. Waitress cute and sexy knows nothing about customer service!! Explained we had a groupon, service attitude seemed to change after that. Food was good. Would of had more drinks if we could of had service, then when the bill came they added the 40.00 cover charge on the bill and charged tax on it? Does this tax go to the band? Last time for us at La Maison du Jazz -Laval, Quebec best thing of the night was the guitarist Mr. Roger Mann! Not sure I will use groupon again!

Dave M.

Yelp
The entertainment was spectacular, The food was horrible. The ribs were tough, bad flavor, the jambalaya was fishy, no taste and very very disappointing. If we ever come back, it will just be for the Jazz, not the food!

Yelp
Great Jazz Bar! Fun and inviting atmosphere. A good crew that makes great drinks and food. A great crowd; lots of new people and wonderful regulars! But they lose a star on the awful red stools. Please firewood those damn things !

Yelp
This place is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too pricey for the quality of the food. I've paid these kinds of prices in much higher end restaurants in Montreal for exceptional food. This food was far from exceptional. It was good, but that's about it. It wants to come across as something it's not. I assumed the prices were higher due to the fact that they offer live music. That's how I justified it, but then i saw they charge a $10/pp cover on the bill. I don't like being bamboozled, so seeing the cover charge on my bill that doesn't appear anywhere -website; entrance... pissed me off. Drinks are super expensive too. What we paid for drinks cost only a few dollars less than buying a full bottle at the store! 12$ an oz for standard booze? Ridiculous. The place has a good vibe but it's irrelevant now as I won't go back. Our group spent a couple of hundred bucks on a mediocre meal- why would we return when there are so many better places to eat? (Bianca our server was great though. Attentive and good). The hostess can use a lesson in being welcoming. Someone should remind her she's working in a restaurant, not a funeral home. They also require you to check your coat.... I now understand why H o J is always on Groupon. It's probably the only way to get people in the door.

Yelp
My husband and I made a reservation to have drinks here on Valentine's Day. I called too close to the date to make dinner reservations, so we were planning on just coming in and enjoying two seats at the bar. However, when we arrived, we were told that we could sit in the dining room near the stage if we were wiling to order anything (in terms of food) off the menu. I was psyched about the performer (a Sinatra-like "crooner") and of course we accepted. We had already had dinner, so we just ordered a piece of chocolate cake to split and a bottle of wine. The cake was delicious (albeit a little expensive for cake) and we really enjoyed our wine. The performance was so fun to watch. The band was great and the singer was a wonderful performer. The perfect choice for Valentine's Day! Now onto the atmosphere. I love this place for its decorations. I'm all about sparkles and beautiful things and The House of Jazz certainly doesn't disappoint. The walls in the dining room are lined with signed photos of singers and album covers of the venue's performers. The lighting is perfect with romantic candle light and gorgeous chandeliers hanging everywhere. The staff was patient and polite, despite the huge crowd and busy night. We had so much fun! The place is a little expensive, though, so we'll probably save it for special occasions.
