Mother’s Day dinner at this lovely restaurant. The food was delicious, especially the adobo ribs! Beautiful interior and a cool tiki cocktail bar downstairs! A definite must if you’re ever in San Antonio!

I wish they would of displayed online that they were temporary closed. They do have a sign on the door but it does not indicate when they’re gonna open back up.

Yelp
This is a cozy shop with a neat bar. The seating was quite comfy. I watched through the window as a group of folks sprinted by, followed a few seconds later by a uniformed individual chasing them. However, the distraction was fleeting, and I focused on reading the menu once more. The food here is fusion. We opted for: Fist of Fury -- Rum, Lychee, Strawberry, Lime, Mint. And lots of ice. Hot Chicken Chili Dumplings -- it's described as dumplings filled with ground chicken, steamed, and served with chili oil relish. I was quite pleased with how these turned out. Thin, delicate wrappers containing chicken, along with a nice chili sauce. Think along the lines of wontons served with a slightly spicy sauce. Dashi Corn Waffle -- corn waffles topped with pork belly, grilled shrimp, Japanese BBQ sauce, Kewpie Mayo, bonito flakes. So, if you like something like okonomiyaki, you'll probably like this. Gulf Shrimp and Noodles -- grilled shrimp, vermicelli noodles, crispy garlic, shishito peppers, char siu sauce, bonito flakes. This represents a stir-fried noodle dish. Pretty standard, slightly smokey, not bad. I liked the shrimp, and I love shishito peppers, cuz you never know if you're gonna get one that'll light you up. Crispy Karaage Chicken -- tossed with tamarind-lime gastrique, furikake, serrano peppers, pickled tomatoes, cucumber, pickled squash slices. This one I thought was on the greasier side; not particularly crispy (though certain parts were crispy). I suppose that's why they were served with all the mentioned garnishes. I made sure to eat each chicken piece with some serrano pepper. The pickled squash pieces were fun, sour, and tangy, as were the tomatoes. But the chicken itself, the center part away from the sauces and other components, I felt was slightly underwhelming for a fried chicken. I'd still come here again and try out some other items.

Yelp
If you're staying near the river walk, check this place out. There's no shortage of chain restaurant tourist trap nonsense down there, but this place is absolutely worth the trip. Had the steak and salad with a cocktail whose name I've already forgotten. Steak fell apart in my mouth and the salad was really simple but flavorful. I ordered fries which was overkill, but man ... they were good. It can be a little tricky to find from the river walk, but you can go in through a tiki bar and go upstairs to the restaurant. I tried a few flights of stairs outside without success, but I'm glad I was persistent in finding the place.

Yelp
The menu here looks incredible, however, my husband and I didn't love this place as much as we thought we would. We had the brisket egg rolls, Krab and crab roll, and shredded vegetable salad for apps. My favorite was the shredded vegetable salad. The rolls were underwhelming and lacking flavor. For dinner my husband had the burger and I had the crispy karaage chicken. The chicken was very sweet, and it needed more sauce-- as it is fried and got very dry. The burger was well cooked and the dashi dipping sauce was interesting. Our server was very nice and she was very accommodating, however, if in San Antonio again, I would go back to Best Quality Daughter for Asian fusion instead of Tokyo Cowboy.

Yelp
I heard so many things about this place so I was excited to try it. As soon as I walked in, I liked the ambience, plus it was very busy, which always helps. I decided to sit at the bar and it took forever to be acknowledged by the server. I ordered the Hot Chicken Chili Dumplings and they were just okay, not too impressed. I also tried the Furikake fries and those were good.

Yelp
I came into town at 9 pm and was looking for a nearby restaurant for a late dinner. I ordered the furikake fries, which were nice and crispy and the dashi corn waffles. Both were good. If I had to critique something, I would say the dishes were a tad salty. I think if they go easy on the salt, these would be good. Service was fast. The interior is very dark. These photos were lightened with photoshop

Yelp
Looking for a great spot to eat downtown with beautiful views of the river walk? Then look no further. Inside this dimly lit and intimate spot you will find plenty of seating with a mix of tables and booths. Our server was wonderful. As first time diners he made sure to go through the menu and provide several great recommendations. Once our order was taken, our was brought out quick. The kitchen was on it! The food is a delicious mix of american comfort food and Japanese street food. Everything we sampled was delicious and but the double cheeseburger really stood out! Can't wait to visit again!

Yelp
Good but limited happy hour. Delicious snacks & tasty drinks. Good service. I recommend. Details below. 1st visit, party of two, sat at the bar on a Monday in July at 4 pm. Specifically visited to try happy hour 4-6 pm. Limited menu but enjoyed everything we ordered. Forks available if you're not a chopstick user. Bar seating is very limited. Good service. Paid Parking available in nearby garages. Riverwalk nearby. Restrooms are sub level and are odorous. Restrooms are clean; just smells bad.

Yelp
Went here for a girls night and was able to secure a table on a Saturday without making reservations ahead of time! We had a couple of cocktails and mine was the fist of fury which was really refreshing and delicious. My friend got an ube cocktail that was also sooo good! Didn't feel too boozy and the flavors really shined. As for the food the furikake fries were tasty but the furikake itself seemed to have a hard time sticking to the fries. You had to dip them and rub them into the seasoning to get the full bite. The House pickle plate looked a lot bigger in pictures but came out kind of small but was still just enough to share between 3 people and I believe is meant as a dish accompaniment. For entrees my friends had a lot of good things to say about the salmon and the chicken karrage, my entree was the gulf shrimp and noodles which was a decent portion size (family style) but in terms of flavor and everything it was just okay. Overall it was a nice experience and fun to try somewhere new but I'm not totally sure if this place won me over to become a main stay in my cocktail bar rotation.

Yelp
The mixed drinks are really good, but pretty small. If you're used to martini style cocktails the martini glass is about 3/4 the size of typical drink. We had the brisket eggroll which ended up being our favorite dish. We also had the waffle pork belly and shrimp noodles. Both were good but pork was a little tough. The biggest minus is that the bathrooms are down below the restaurant and you have to walk down dark stairs to get there.

Yelp
The food was good, there were a few items that stood out more than the others. For my drink, I got the Fist of Fury (rum, lychee, strawberry, and mint) which wasn't too strong, and it has a great balance of sweetness but not annoyingly too sweet. It actually reminds me of one of my favorite cocktails from a bar in Sacramento, but still a really yummy and light drink. Items we tried: - Brisket Egg Roll: *recommend* this was one of the highlights of our meal, but we were a little underwhelmed with it being only one egg roll for $9? Fortunately, we came during happy hour, so we didn't pay full price for this, and I don't ever will. Still a good item, but a little steep for just one.. maybe two would make a little more sense to me. I overheard the table next to us as well commenting the same thing. - Hot Chicken Chili Dumplings - *recommend* once again, another favorite of the night but $13 for three dumplings? I mean, unless the chili oil is made out of gold and the chicken is a rare species, I don't think such small dumplings should be a little over $4 piece. But, like I said we came during happy hour, so I don't think we paid full price for it. - Blistered Green Beans - "just for health" but seriously though, I really don't remember how this tasted, but I do know that I ate most of this instead of my actual main entree because it tasted better than my salmon. - Furikake Fries - this was my husband's favorite "side." Definitely ask for some spicy mayo to dip! - Crispy Pork Chop - *recommend* my husband ordered this as his main, and I think realistically we should have shared this because it was the pork chop itself was pretty big. It was giving katsu vibes, which I assume was the point because it came with some curry, so as a tradition Japanese dish of Katsu Curry. Though, the curry paired really great with the pork chop. - Grilled Salmon - this was my main, and honestly, it was nothing special. It was a bit too salt for my personal preference. I don't I would get this again. - Tokyo Tres Leches - this was good, I think it needed to be soaked a little more. Once we got to the middle of the cake, it was pretty dry.

Yelp
Tried this restaurant for lunch for my birthday and everything was impressive! The food, the decor and ambiance, and the service! The food was delicious and it's tough to find a restaurant where you want to try everything but Tokyo Cowboy is one of those rare spots for me, and I look forward to coming here again! Plus the patio view of the River Walk? *Chef's kiss* It was so peaceful and lovely out there just to birdwatch. Shout-out to our server Dez, who made our first visit incredible.

Yelp
A fusion of Asian dishes with some Texas flair makes up this snazzy downtown SA restaurant. Located a few minutes walk from the Alamo, the inside is clean and modern which is not obvious from walking down Commerce street. The portions are small but the taste is flavorful. The brisket egg roll for an app followed by the spicy pork belly, crispy chicken, Dansin corn waffle and Gulf shrimp noddles were just enough for us 4 to share for a light meal. My recommendation is If your last name is cowboy, then you might want to consider increasing the size of the portions to feed one. We sat at the bar because we were on limited time, but still managed to have a fun and pleasant dinner. Service was spot on and since the bar is located next to the kitchen, we constantly had our drinks filled. The restrooms are downstairs which are next to Hungman's bar and apparently are shared between the business, which is not uncommon for downtown. Overall, I would come again, but only if I wanted a light lunch or dinner and not on a completely empty stomach unless that is, you want to save room for desert.

Yelp
This was the first meal we had on a 3 week trip to San Antonio and it remained my favorite meal we had. My husband and I shared: - Brisket Egg Roll - Hot Chicken Chili Dumplings - Karaage - Soboro Fries - Dashi Corn Waffle - Mac & Cheese - 36 Chambers - Yuzurita Mocktail - Yuzu Meringue Pie - Tokyo Tres Leches (Strawberry Ube) My favorite item was the mac and cheese. I almost didn't order it because it sounds boring (they should really name it so it's clear it's not just regular mac and cheese), but my husband read the description. I love rice cakes and this was the perfect fusion dish. Other dishes I loved included the karaage which was so crispy and the soboro fries which had the most flavorful meat on them. The Yuzurita was also fantastic. The only thing I'd skip if I were to do it again is the Dashi Corn Waffle which was kind of dry. I highly recommend coming during happy hour because you can order off of both menus. You can save money on some dishes and order some that aren't on the dinner menu.

Yelp
We came here on a Thursday for lunch after staying downtown for a concert. There is probably public parking nearby, but we walked from our hotel. It is pretty centrally located in downtown and was about a ten minute walk from the Hilton Palacio del Rio. It is street level, not riverwalk level. We got there a little before noon and it was already busy. We were sat right away, but groups after us had to wait a bit. The host was probably the manager and was great. He sat us and took our drink order and was constantly checking on tables our entire visit. We started with the pickle plate. It was delicious and we will get it every time we come back. It had multiple pickled vegetables: cucumbers, cabbage, squash, cauliflower, and tomatoes. I got the Tokyo dog and my wife got the sukiyaki burger. Both of our meals came with furikake fries. The burger was amazing and the hot dog was really good. The fries were crisp and were incredible dipped in the dashi jus that came with my wife's burger. We fully enjoyed all of our food. We came during lunch, so there was a limited menu. We didn't get the Asian flavors we were hoping for, but the dinner menu seems to be more along that line. The music was good and not too loud. The bathroom was down a set of stairs, but there was an outside elevator that I think went to the same level on the riverwalk

Yelp
Wow. I went downtown to the Market, did some shopping, was starving, checked out Yelp nearby resto's and we made the 6 block walk to Tokyo Cowboy. I ordered the fried chicken as a "shared" plate. Definitely shareable! It was insanely incredible. Every bite was a party in my mouth. I got the jalapeño side sauce (took it by chance because I hate jalapenos) but omg!!! Incredible. We also got the pork belly "shareable" plate (a little small for an entree) but omg I was in heaven. Incredible flavor. I am definitely coming back here!!

Yelp
Came by on a weekday during happy hour without reservation - seated right away, although it did get busy about halfway into our time there. Would be worth having a reservation if you have a larger party or come during peak hours. Service was fine and friendly. There's a tiki bar downstairs, unfortunately it was closed while we were there (bartender quit, according to our server) I tried a few menu items - happy hour fries, chili oil dumplings, Shishito peppers. Everything was fine, I wasn't blown away by anything though. Their menu is relatively small and designed to be shared. Prices were fair! Decor was nice.

Yelp
Tokyo Cowboy is a delicious, modern, hip, upscale Asian and Southern fusion restaurant. Some tips: make a reservation online, come for happy hour, and order Karaage, and Soboro Fries. I recommend also ordering the Hot Chicken and Chili Dumplings. Most importantly, order the Mac & Cheese. On our first visit, my wife and I ordered everything above and also Brisket Egg Roll, Dashi Corn Waffle, Yuzu-meringue Pie Tokyo Tres Leches (Strawberry Ube). For drinks we tried 36 Chambers and the mocktail version of the Yuzurita. I enjoyed everything but the recommendations I provided above were my favorite. Service was surprisingly fast for how busy it was. Very friendly.

Yelp
Locals experiencing downtown living! Delicious Martini!! We came for happy hour & it didn't disappoint!! Great drinks. Delicious food. Had the happy hour fries and karaage chicken and the chilli dumplings. Yummyyy!! Would definitely be back! Our server was attentive, Nice quiet ambience! Chill, I like it !

Yelp
Unique Japan meets Texas fusion! Great happy hour, friendly service, tasty bar snacks, convenient location close to the riverwalk if staying downtown. With Tokyo in the name I expected some sushi options but there are none. Still worth checking out :)

Yelp
The name is what intrigued me, so I tried to go one night, but I was told that reservations need to be made. So, I made one at the restaurant for Sunday night. It was necessary as it was packed. I found out that downstairs by the restroom was a lounge/ bar called Hugman's Oasis (an interesting name). It might be from the same owner. We had server named Grace who was also the hostess. She did her best even with doing double duty. For the table the brisket egg roll, chicken dumplings, shrimp & noodles, tamarind crispy chicken, jasmine rice and coconut & ube tres leches cake was ordered. I really enjoyed the chicken dumplings bc it had great flavoring. I was craving noodles and this hit the mark. So delicious. The ube tres leches was so tasty and flavorful. I've never had cake like this before. I'm grateful that I was able to get a reservation here.

Yelp
I could not have enjoyed this place more. We were in town for a wedding and were quickly intrigued when we came across this place looking for a dinner option. Located near our downtown hotel and the Riverwalk, it made a lot of sense and we were quickly impressed once we began dining. We enjoyed the cocktails and were soon drooling over the food. We agreed our favorite was the Brisket Egg Roll and my other favorite was the Crispy Karaage Chicken. The Crispy Pork Chop was really good too! Loved that apple curry. Our server was extremely nice and I feel like service was prompt, even with it being so busy on a Saturday night. We very much enjoyed our experience here.

Yelp
So we checked this place out this weekend and I'm still confused by that experience. It's a loud restaurant with a counter seating option-that was cool. Our waitress was helpful but seemed busy and not really into us as customers. She seemed liked she wanted us in, order as many items as fast as we could, and leave. The spam dish would have been awesome but the seaweed was like rubber. The pork belly dish was a nice portion size but wasn't cohesive. I don't know, I'm still confused about the experience of it all. I just felt the ingredients in the names of the dishes didn't match.

Yelp
Stopped in here by accident even though he it wax on my to do list and everything we had was delicious from the crab rolls to the steak to the saki. We had no problem being seated with no reservations and the service was great. Stop by and try it.

Yelp
Hell Yes!! Ride em, Tokyo Cowboy!! While it was a little hard to get a res--it was totally worth the wait! The waitstaff and hostess were wonderful! Awesome, small and cozy restaurant with a great vibe! Perfect for intimate dinner, small gatherings, girls night, etc... Try everything!! Go during happy hour and get all the things!!

Yelp
We ordered the Dashi Corn Waffle ($17), Spicy Pork Belly ($19), Crispy Karaage Chicken ($19), and the Blistered Green Beans ($12). My personal favorite was the blistered green beans. The chicken karaage and pork belly wasn't the best I ever had, but it was still good. I wish there were more veggie options that came with the main course. The portions were hefty - expect for the corn waffle. I wasn't a huge fan of it, but my dad liked it. It's not sweet like you'd expect. Foodwise, everything was decent. The server was very friendly and welcoming, and the indoor ambiance is pleasant. If it's a nice day, ask for outdoor seating. There are small tables on a balcony overlooking the river, and you can just manage to squeeze three people in.
google avatar

Shelisa W.

Yelp
Food is definitely fusion. Mac and cheese tasted yummy but nothing like the American version and they looked like scallop potatoes. Chicken on the salad was crispy, but the salad was a bit vinegary.
google avatar

Yelp
While visiting San Antonio we came across Tokyo Cowboy. We were not quite sure what to expect, just because of the name, but WOW what a fantastic dining experience. RaeAnne was our server who was very attentive, which was impressive since we were out on the patio. She was very welcoming and didn't rush us. My husband and I shared the Kimchi Salad. It had a very nice kick to it but not too spicy. It was just spicy enough to awaken the taste buds. Then we ended up both ordering the same entree. It was the shrimp and noodles which was a gourmet delight. The entree was colorful with a blend of ingredients, some we had never had before. The flavors came together to create a wonderful palate pleaser. It was not just a great meal but a great experience. I highly recommend this little gem of a restaurant. Enjoy!!!!!

Yelp
I visited Tokyo Cowboy on a Monday night at 6 after avoiding Riverwalk Restaurants for a long time. I should have stuck to my golden rule. Long story short, I felt like it was elevated bar food. Great for a night out when bar hopping but not worth a trip for the food. My daughter and I enjoyed a fun night of each others company but I left wishing I'd chosen differently for our special evening. Upon entering I noticed the restaurant was overly hot. The air was on but not fully functioning. Our waitress Dez was my favorite part of the dining experience. She was friendly, efficient and knowledgeable about the menu. After asking for drink choices I picked her 3rd favorite and my daughter picked her number 1. Mine was ok. Sort of like a strawberry mojito. Almost everything I had seemed to lack the extra bit of flavor that would make it great. I ordered the brisket eggroll and blistered green beans. I really enjoyed the great beans and was happy for saving some calories. The eggroll and sauce were ok. More cheese flavor than anything with chucks of brisket. No collard green flavor from the couple of specks included. Then I had some of my daughter's pork chop. It was panko crusted, beautifully plated and hot. Bland but filling. Finally I ordered 3 chili oil dumplings. Meh . So $100+ spent for a new experience. Our next planned spot was Hugmans Oasis so I headed to the restroom. A wrong turn lead me to the balcony which was truly lovely. I'd choose to sit there as I found the inside lacking the ambience or vibe that others reported. Restrooms were individual, clean and well decorated but there was a sewer smell in the hallway. I peeked into Hugmans but the sewer smell turned me off. We went to Amy's at the Quarry for ice cream instead. I chalk Tokyo Cowboy up to another novelty Riverwalk restaurant. There are plenty of other great places downtown for great drinks and apps. Just walk down East Houston St. Or visit Southtown.

Yelp
We made a reservation and reserved TC for a dinner celebration after a college graduation. Located right on the Riverwalk, we actually found an awesome reasonable parking garage a few blocks away. First to walk in, we (party of 7) were seated at a table towards the back of the restaurant. Ordered all the Happy Hour menu items : D The hits at our table were the karaage chicken, soboro fries, and the shishito peppers. We found the cured salmon to be very bland. I had ordered a Happy Hour martini, but soon returned it as it was so bitter and strong. Our server suggested the fist of fury cocktail instead. I enjoyed it, kinda reminded me of a mojito. Thereafter, we each ordered our own plates. Pls note that most of the items are shareable plates- they don't come with any sides. The standouts for dinner were the once again karaage chicken and the double cheeseburger. Lots of flavor! The dashi corn waffle with pork belly and shrimp were ok, just a little dry. My son enjoyed the grilled salmon, but the sauce surrounding it was salty. Most of the dishes were topped with bonito flakes- dried/fermented tuna. The amount was overwhelming and overpowering , I think a sprinkle would suffice. Overall, food was ok. Cool interior decor. Service was good. Love the fusion of Asian with BBQ idea!

Yelp
We were seated outside on the patio overlooking the river walk and it was a very intimate setting being much quieter than inside. For apps we ordered the Krab & crab roll (very crabby so only order if you really enjoy Krab) and the hot chicken chili dumplings. Both were great and a nice size as not too much. Drinks were Cobra Kai and a Tokyo Highball both were great. Entrees wereDashinCorn Waffle and the Crispy Karaage Chicken, both amazing. Service was great and quick. Our server was attentive and checked on us regularly! Definitely would return!

Yelp
The ambiance is fantastic! We sat outside above the Riverwalk in a cozy 2 top. The menu has many interesting and unusual options that are tapas style. We enjoyed all of them but non were spectacular. The Crispy Karaage chicken was a weird spin on Sichuan chicken. Good, not great. The spicy pork belly tasted porky, it needed more sauce to offset the flavor. The brisket egg roll was great, we had a second order. Slums of Shaolin old fashioned was great!!

Yelp
After scouring Yelp and TikTok for San Antonio restaurant recommendations, I settled on Tokyo Cowboy for a nice, early NYE dinner. I made a reservation days in advance, anticipating big crowds, but it wasn't too busy when I arrived. The aesthetic of the place was definitely a vibe, but they tucked me into a solo bar spot in the back corner. I wasn't too upset--it was a holiday, and I was dining alone. The bartender's service was fine, but not particularly memorable or friendly. I started with two Mogwai's Night Out cocktails (minus the cucumber), and they were terrific! However, at $15 a drink, they're definitely a splurge. For an appetizer, I tried the Hot Chicken Chili Dumplings. The flavor was solid, but the portion felt skimpy--$13 for three small dumplings is a bit hard to justify. For my main course, I went with the TC Double Cheeseburger, and it did not disappoint. The egg-thickened dashi dipping sauce was a standout addition and elevated the burger to something really special. Highly recommend. Out of curiosity, I also ordered the Mac & Cheese, described as "Our take on a classic with Korean rice dumplings, spicy kimchi, topped with panko and bacon." Unfortunately, this dish was a complete miss. It was dry, lacked flavor, and felt like a chore to eat. Maybe I got a bad batch? Overall, Tokyo Cowboy is a cool spot with potential. I could see myself coming back as part of a date night or as a pregame stop before hitting the bars, but it's not a must-visit in my book.

Yelp
Wifey and I discovered this on OpenTable. It's a small, quaint eatery. A bit loud with all the chatter. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Our server was friendly and prompt, but brought my wife a bottle of wine rather than the glass she ordered. The menu is as the name implies: fusion. Adventurous. Eclectic. Delicious. Different. My cocktails were stellar.

Yelp
Dez made our NIGHT! She did such an amazing job not only with recommendations but also remembering my birthday on the reservation and even lit a candle for me! Definitely get the Hot Chili Dumplings, brisket egg rolls & the spicy pork belly- AMAZING!! Food came out fast and good temps. Will absolutely return soon & always will sit with Dez!

Yelp
Ive been to 5 star restaurants, paid $450 for a dinner... this was $13 for 3 dumplings!!! Also freezer burn tasting. This was my anniversary.. it was the most underwhelming experience. The girls were nice but there is no excuse for the price and portion. You may look at my other reviews and they are positive so please take heed on this negative one. Save your money. To summarize, the service was good, this negative review is a reflection of the quality and quantity of the food in respect to its pricing. The decor is okay as well not worth the hype. Im glad i came either way to settle my mind on this place. Oh the dumplings in my pic look big but they are not its just a small plate.

Yelp
Location is key, we had lunch on the deck overlooking the riverwalk. Every dish was flavorful and mouth watering. Service was prompt and friendly. The only suggestion would be to go lighter on soy sauce for the charred green beans.

Yelp
I kept hearing good things about this spot, and while walking around downtown San Antonio one night I accidentally stumbled upon it, and I decided I would pop in for a drink The interior is trendy and inviting. I really like the decor, light fixtures, table settings, etc. Usually these sorts of restaurant/bars are intimately lit, but this spot is slightly brighter, and it works really well. I honestly prefer it The hostess was very kind and accommodating. I sat in the bar area, so, my server was also a bartender, but he was incredible. His suggestions, his attention to detail, his personality, the professionalism, etc made my visit a good one The menu offers a wine variety of Texas/American and Japanese fusion dishes. While I only stopped in for a drink or two, I really want to come back to try the food. The cocktail menu is exceptional. Enticing recipes, with clever names, and with a fusion flare With the check they provided a Tokyo Cowboy postcard which I thought was a nice touch. I also liked that even though I was a table for one, they gave me an entire carafe of water Some tips: This spot is located right off the River walk, so, as you're exploring the city, take a break at this hip bar Cheers!!

Yelp
This was the best food I had in my 6 days in San Antonio. Avoid the mediocre at best Riverwalk food and eat here. The old fashioned was one of the best and most unique I've had as well. The service was great, we had a group of 15 and made three separate 5-person reservations. They were nice enough to find a way to seat us all together.

Yelp
Downtown SA can be hit or miss due to the touristy vibes and high foot traffic. This was just okay. The service was not spectacular; our server did not know the menu at all and was slow to get our drinks. While it was primed to be a busy night, the place was maybe half full when we arrived, so it wasn't that. The apps we tried were the Krab and Crab roll, Brisket eggroll, and Hot chili dumplings. The crab roll was the best one and it didn't pack much flavor- the sauce made it. The eggroll was small and just kinda of tasted like a fried and really cheesy burger- not worth it at all. Our entrees included the shrimp noodles and chicken karaage. The chicken was good. The shrimp was generously portioned, but it is really heavy handed with the Benito flakes. So were the fries, but they were perfectly cooked! The variety of cocktails was interesting. I ended up switching to a vodka soda though- i needed a palate cleanser. All in all? It was okay. It is close to the Aztec, on the river, and yes, there is an elevator for ADA concerns. I'd pop back by if someone asked to meet there, but it would not be on my must try list.

Yelp
This spot exceeded all of our expectations and left us talking about it every day after! Can't wait to go next time we visit SA. Food: delicious and surprisingly decently priced. The serving sizes for the options on happy hour menu don't disappoint. We tried: the pickled veggies - perfectly sweet and sour balance Smoked salmon Karaage chicken Crab krab roll (that butter is out of this world) A seafood and pasta dish Multiple cocktails including one with ube/coconut. All were fantastic and presented very beautifully. Ambiance: romantic and hip. Clean environment with attention to detail. Service: very friendly and attentive Definitely make a reservation as the small dining area fills up quickly when they open. The counter is an awesome spot for date night!

Yelp
Too much bougy asian infusion. Way too spicy for our taste but the atmosphere is cool. I'd go for that and the bar instead of the food.

Yelp
The first thing I should mention is to make reservations. We came on a Saturday a little before 7:30 and it didn't seem too busy but apparently all the open tables were booked reservations. They took our name down and let us know we could go to their connecting bar, Hugmans Oasis. That was fine with us, we had wanted to stop by there afterwards but I guess we were trying them out first. Side note: we had a great time there but didn't get to enjoy it as much since we had to leave once our table was ready. Once we were texted that our table was ready we took the stairs back up to the restaurant. They do have an elevator if you prefer or can't take the stairs. Let me just say Tokyo Cowboy has been at the top of my list of places to try and we finally had a chance to go for a date night/birthday dinner. It's super dim as to give a relaxing moody vibe which was nice. They sat us across the bar that had bar style seating. Not as nice as a table but was fine. We were greeted quickly and served promptly. Our server was nice check in on us a few times. The food was pretty good, we had the brisket egg rolls, blistered green beans and the grilled salmon. The egg rolls were pretty good, the herb ranch dip complimented it well. The green beans were charred and tossed in a tamarind fish caramel and black vinaigrette. The first bite was a little over powering as you are hit with a ton of flavor but as you keep eating them it gets better and went well with our choice of salmon. The Salmon was my favorite. It was cooked and flavored perfectly. The Thai basil butter really made the difference. The drinks were good and had fun names. We are Wutang fans so of course tried liquid swords and 36 chambers. We also had Kota's tea and lords of death. I really liked lords of death over all the others but it was nice to try a few different ones. Overall date night was a success. I'm glad we tried this place but nothing really compels me to comeback. BUT Hugmans, I am looking forward to going back and spending more time there. The vibe was just more enjoyable.

Yelp
Yee, and I can not stress this enough, haw! Took the bestie here for an early-birthday brunch. Parking downtown is always a chore, but the sites [sometimes] make up for it. Tokyo Cowboy is a spacious restaurant with a small but lovely patio overlooking the Riverwalk. Since the weather was beautiful, my friend and I opted to sit on the patio and watch the ferries float by (and the occasional duck). For starters we ordered coffee and an tasty alcoholic beverage. I had the Golden Dragon and he had the Cobra Kai (technically not on the brunch menu, but our waiter and bartender did us a total solid and made one for him anyway). The fact that they made him a drink off-menu alone is 5 stars. Both beverages were delicious. My friend had the Sukiyaki burger, which he ate in record time - I had a taste of it, and it was delicious. I had the Shrimp and Rice grits, but looking over the description - it was missing the pork belly. The dish was delicious, though. The tomatoes were sweet and bright, the shrimp perfectly cooked, and egg was the cherry on top. It was a great blend of sweet, savory, and umami. (Do people still use that word to describe flavor?) But yeah - as you can see in the picture, no pork belly. Augh! What a disappointment!! Aside from that, everything else was fantastic. Dylan, our waiter, was great. The view? Spectacular. A fine spot for brunch - just make sure you get everything you're paying for. Womp womp.

Yelp
We came here for a date night, and it did not disappoint! With the perfect 58-degree weather, we decided to sit outside on the balcony. The ambiance was wonderful--enjoying the river views and music made for a relaxing evening. We started with the Brisket Roll and the Krab & Crab Roll, and both appetizers were absolutely incredible. I wasn't sure what to expect with the Krab & Crab Roll, but it completely blew me away. For our entrees, my wife ordered the Gulf Shrimp & Noodles, and I went with the TC Double Cheeseburger and a side of Mac & Cheese. A quick note: this is a "serve as it's ready" restaurant, so her noodles arrived first--naturally, I had to sneak a bite! The shrimp were perfectly cooked and flavorful, and the noodles were delicious. The Mac & Cheese was a standout for me--easily one of my favorite dishes of the night. The rice dumplings were an unexpected but unique touch that worked surprisingly well. I'll definitely be ordering that again. My burger arrived last, and it was worth the wait. Juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked, I'd highly recommend it to any burger lover. To top it all off, they give you a postcard with your check--a thoughtful little touch that adds to the charm. Lastly, a shoutout to our waitress, Michelle, who was incredible throughout the night. Hats off to you, Michelle! Overall, a very good experience. I'm giving it 4/5 stars, only because I found the prices a bit on the high side. That said, the quality of the food and atmosphere made it worth it.

Yelp
Very cute fushion restaurant on the Riverwalk. Reservations were super easy on the website and we were seated promptly. The braised beef was cook so well, very tender and flavorful. The side garnishes worked so well and were refreshing. The Sukiyaki burger was cooked well done, but they do not ask you how you want it cooked. That was fine but was a hit dry if not dipped with the egg sauce. Which made it sooo much more tasty. Also the Fist of Fury cocktail was 10/10. Very refreshing, and not too sweet with the strawberry. Defintely recommend when vistinf the walk !

Yelp
Having to come downtown for jury duty, I took the opportunity to stop by Tokyo Cowboy during our lunch break. I mentioned to my waitress that I was on a strick one hour time line and she said she would take care of me. I decided to try one of the lunch specials, the Sukiyaki burger with fries. When the order came out I was pleasantly surprised to find that the burger was a double meat patty, covered in white american cheese, braised onions and crispy shallots with a side of furikake fries. The patties were nice and juicy and the flavor from the cheese, onions and shallots all blended so well. There is a side of doshi jus that comes with an egg that you must mix up and is a great dipping sauce for the burger. The furikake fries were good and crispy. Overall, this was a great burger and I look forward to coming back and trying more of the menu. p.s. I got in and out in 45 minutes. Great service!

Yelp
Style over Substance. Love the vibes here. Located on the River Walk with an "underground" tiki bar. Unfortunately, the food did not match the ambiance. Service was fine at best. They were friendly, but took their time between dishes and refilling drinks. Nothing bad, but also nothing to write home about. The color scheme is all warm colors, from the neon pink sign outside to the yellowed lighting inside. Looks like a full bar, but not necessary when the tiki vibing The Hugman's Bar downstairs. Owned by the same peoples, but separate. Family style dining, maybe tapas, depending on your perspective. We ordered the Brisket Egg Roll (literally only one, could barely taste the brisket) & Musubi (fine, but difficult to screw up canned meat with rice wrapped with seaweed) for the appetizers. Main courses were the Dashi Waffle (bonito flakes are always fun, came with pork belly and shrimp; the waffle was pretty dry and a little tough, not as fluffy in the batter department) & Grilled Salmon (second best dish; crispy and tender with great flavor) & The Tokyo Cowboy Double Cheeseburger (was told that the meat was tasty, but unfortunately any sides like fries must be ordered separately). The sides were, interestingly, both better and larger than the entrees. Their spin on Macaroni & Cheese was the best "dish" tonight, course designation be damned! They used rice cakes, a popular Chinese and Korean alternative to noodles or rice, with a delicious blend of Mexican cheeses in sauce form, topped with bacon and kimchi. Great mix of savory flavors. Also had the green beans. (Like the other side we tried, excellent. Rounds out the top three things here). Desert was a shared Tres Leches cake. A suitable conclusion to the night, as it represented our dinner- good, but not great; fine and forgettable. This place has potential. Upgrading the menu to better reflect the ambiance and prices would be a must. Still a decent place to check out- maybe stick to triple rounds of the sides though!

Yelp
Outdoor seating sits right over the riverwalk for a nice breeze outside. Food quality is not bad, considering the price.
