Where to Find Korean Comfort Food Around D.C. | Eater DC

"Kimbap, a Korean-style roll that has amassed a cult following, shines at House of Milae. Meat, fresh vegetables, and pickles are wrapped in rice and seaweed. Order the seafood scallion pancake here, too." - Hanna Nakano

I ordered delivery through their preferred app. I received no email or text with an estimated delivery time. When I tried to call the restaurant after an hour of waiting, nobody answered the phone. When I finally got my food, it was cold, and I received no rice and broccoli with my Bulgogi in which it specifically says you get steamed rice and broccoli with the meal. When I called the restaurant to complain, they only offered half off the Kimbap ($9) rather than the Bulgogi ($23). Maybe the food is good at the restaurant, but DEFINITELY avoid ordering delivery from this restaurant.

House of Milae is a local gem serving quality authentic Korean cuisine. Working my way through their menu, I’ve found every dish to be well-seasoned and comforting. I regularly order beef gimbap, which always hits the spot. The kimchi fried rice is brilliant. The kimchi jigae and tteokguk stews are perfect as hearty meals on cold nights. For an absolute treat, order some beef galbi or pork belly which are served on a cast iron hot plate. Bring a friend or two, grab a booth, and pair your meal with a bottle of soju or a bowl of makgeolli. Last but not least, the owner is exceptionally friendly - his genuineness and sense of humor complete the experience. Highly recommended: please come out to support this local business, serving some of the best food in the neighborhood.

Spot - cozy. Wait staff - awesome and attentive. Manager - one of the best people I've met in my career. Kitchen - absolutely on point. This is hands down one of the last few old gems of downtown Bethesda and there aren't many left!

Google
Food was really good and our server was extremely friendly and attentive. We ordered the kimchee fried rice, soondobue (tofu), and the bibimbap as our main and they were all delicious. We also loved the Jun, Korean pancake, which was extra crispy!

Google
Great service, very comforting. Seafood pancakes were good, might need to add some seafood freshness to make it more tasty. But the tofu soup was not flavored enough while it’s good coming in the iron pot.

I eat a LOT of Korean food so when I say this is some of the best I've had, I have a frame of reference! We went on a weeknight and things were quiet. I liked that kpop was playing but not too loud and our server (I think it was Lily!) was super sweet and attentive. I think the service was better than the food, and the food was really really good. I loved that we got a tray of all of the sides! I feel like a lot of places don't do that anymore. All of the sides were good, I especially liked the potato salad and the pickled radish. We tried the meat steamed dumplings and they were good! I liked the dipping sauce and they had a great flavor. After that we got two of the bibimbop bowls! We got the crispy "dolsot" ones. They came out so hot and still sizzling! I had the beef, and it was a well marinated bulgolgi. I loved how crispy the rice got, and the toppings went well with the rice and beef. The sauces were really good and I put a ton of the spicy gochujang sauce on mine, it really made it. I liked that you could specify how your egg was cooked too. Everything tasted amazing and it was just the thing for a cold night. I got a scallion pancake to go for lunch the next day, and it came with all of the sides again! I was so happy to see more of that potato salad. The pancakes aren't flaky layered ones, but crispy flour ones. The dipping sauce they came with was nice. It was a great portion for lunch. I cannot wait to come back and try the pork belly in a bibimbop bowl! This is definitely my new favorite place in Bethesda.

I've been there with my family, and both kids and adults liked the place. Feels like real home cooked meal, very tasty and authentic Korean food. The server was so nice, we spend a really great evening. We will come back to discover the other dishes.

Google
A little hidden gem in Bethesda. I have been here twice now and both times the service was great. The server was very attentive and patient with all requests. The reason I took off a star is for price and both times I was there something from our order was forgotten but given the service and taste of food it was not a big deal. In my most recent visit I got the seafood pancake, beef bibimbop, and the beef soft tofu stew. The beef bibimbop was delicious and came with a good amount of beef surprisingly. The seafood pancake came out as 3 little pancakes and it was a bit more doughy in the middle than I would have preferred (reminds me of the texture of mashed potatoes) but it still tasted nice with the dipping sauce. The beef soft stew was not overly salty which was great and had a good amount of tofu in it. It was also just the right amount of spicy. The plate of small side dishes is always something to look forward to as well! Overall, I would 100% recommend and I will definitely be back. However, I would like to note that the two times I was there the food did take a little bit to come out.

Yelp
I came here for take out on a Wednesday evening. I biked here and was able to order from outside. The service was very quick and they were nice enough to bring my food out so I could stay with my bike. I ordered the Bulgogi and the beef and pork Fried Dumplings. Prices were a little higher than I would have liked for the portion size. I didn't have any leftovers. The side dishes are nice but the broccoli and kimchi weren't my anything special. I really liked the dumplings! They were very crispy. The bulgogi was good I just wished there was a little more. Overall nice takeout.

Yelp
I've been coming here for many years and I will say that this most recent mail was the best I've ever had here. The bipbimbap with crunchy rice is so satisfying and the galbi was perfectly cooked. This place is amazing. Go today.

Yelp

Yelp
House of Milae is a great location in Bethesda for authentic Korean cuisine! Parking is easy, as there's a garage right across the street, and the restaurant has a good amount of seating. The Korean side dishes (Banchan) they provide are numerous and tasty, my favorites are the standard cabbage kimchi and the fish cakes. I got the Kimchi Fried Rice with pork, and it was really flavorful! Spicy, sweet, and savory from the gochujang paste, mellowed out with the runny egg yolk and nicely stir fried rice, it's a great combination of flavors, and really tastes like a nice home-made Korean Kimchi fried rice! Prices are a bit on the higher side, but I suppose that is just Bethesda prices. My friend did feel a bit sick from the food she ate afterwards, but I felt fine. Overall I do enjoy the food here and would come back again for more Korean fare.

Yelp
I tried the bibimbap, kimbap, and scallion pancakes to get the full traditional Korean experience. I honestly can't pick a favorite because they were all incredibly tasty and delicious. The service was quick, and everyone was so friendly. It's a small spot, but definitely worth a visit!

Yelp
$24 and this is all I got... a little disappointed. Not much chicken at all. Wouldn't recommend ordering Togo.

Yelp
A very nice casual Korean restaurant. They have a very nice menu and some really delicious meals. (A)

Yelp
Delicious food! The subway is close by. The waiters and waitresses are nice, and we got our food quickly. The side dishes are great, especially the fish cakes. I recommend the bibimbap and the scallion and shrimp pancake.

Yelp
Definition of fine dining. The food was good the portion sizes just threw me off. Service was great, The bulgogi specifically didn't taste as authentic as I expected

Yelp
"NEVER COME BACK" is what the son of the owner told us... I love Korean food, but I was very disappointed by House of Milae. The food they served me was very bland and tasteless. I could not eat it and asked for a different dish, but the son of the owner refused to accommodate me. He asked me if I was Korean and if I had put salt and pepper on the food. He also said that if I sent the food back, I would have to pay for it anyway. He told me and my partner to never come back (my partner is Asian), but he said it so quietly that other customers could not hear him. He even grabbed a spoon and tasted the food in front of me on my table, which I found very disrespectful and unsanitary. I have never seen such behavior in any restaurant before. This was the worst dining experience I have ever had. I do not recommend this place to anyone who likes Korean food or expects decent service. There are much better options in Bethesda for Korean cuisine. House of Milae should be ashamed of themselves for treating their customers so poorly.

Yelp
took my delivery order then called to ask me to pick up. when I called back to ask when it would arrive they said 90 minutes after I ordered it, then hung up on me. don't order from this place the service is rude and inefficient.

Yelp
Great little hole in the wall with friendly staff and atmosphere in central Bethesda. Came here for a quick dinner with 2 friends and ordered a hot stone bibimbap which is my go-to especially on a cold day. I've spent several weeks in Korea so am quite discerning about Korean food and this didn't disappoint. Often the stone bowl isn't hot enough probably because restaurants are afraid people will burn themselves touching it and the rice doesn't crisp up properly on the bottom but that wasn't the case here. The rice was perfectly golden and crispy and everything else was delicious too. We ordered a scallion pancake/pajeon to split and they actually made 3 small pancakes instead of 1 big one so we could all eat it without having to cut it up. That was unexpected but really appreciated. Would definitely come back here if in Bethesda again.

Yelp
Food served here have satisfactory flavor. I ordered the shrimp pancake, bulgogi, chicken to try out. My biggest complaint is the portion sizes. Banchan (side dishes) provided are quite small. Dishes themselves are also on the smaller side for the prices. I am used to the portions served at LA or Atlanta Korean restaurants - at least 2x the size served here. I saw several guests order the sundubu (spicy tofu soup), which looked tasty.

Yelp
Great spot to get your Korean fix in downtown Bethesda. Service is quick and friendly, and the food is tasty and satisfying. I tried the Milae Hot Stone Bibimbap, and I was pleasantly surprised to see more customization/variety here than I've seen at other Korean restaurants - you can choose your type of protein (beef, spicy pork, pork belly, chicken, salmon, shrimp, tofu, or mushroom) and egg style (sunny side up, scrambled, over easy, etc.). On top of that, the server will bring out different types of sauces on the side. I typically only see chili paste paired with this dish, but here we got extra sesame oil, soy sauce, and spicy curry. Everything mixed together, along with the sizzling crispy rice, was delicious! In general the restaurant itself is quite small, but I noticed that there's also a patio area if you want to sit outdoors. Perfect for the warmer months.

Yelp
Got the pork bulgogi and kimbap. The food great and love the banchans. I just wanted more banchans cause they were good. I'm craving it again while writing this review!!

Yelp
Went here for dinner on a Saturday night. It wasn't too crowded and the waitress was awesome. She made suggestions and we shared the beef pancake appetizer along with the banchan. For entree I got the regular size hot stone bibimbap. The rice was super crispy and the veggies fresh but there was only a really small portion of chicken in the bowl. Overall I thought the size for the price was kind of small. Next time I'd order the larger size and extra protein. My fiancé got the spicy chicken entree which came with a really creamy broccoli slaw and overall I thought his chicken had better flavor than that in the bibimbap. Will definitely be trying again!

Yelp
I must say... I was very surprised by House of Milae! Banchan was plentiful, dol sot bibimbap was delicious, and the service was top notch. Everything here tasted authentic and the portions were pretty solid. The only gripe I have about this place is the price. If you want authentic Korean food that is almost on par with SoCal, this is the spot. I would highly recommend this place.

Yelp
If you're looking for traditional Korean food, try another place. Long story short, the food we ordered was overly and inappropriately sweet. This review is based on one visit, during a slow weekday approximately 730p by a family of Koreans including my mom, wife, sister, niece and myself. We've eaten Korean food all of our lives. We ordered spicy squid, kimchi jjigae, spicy pork, dumpling soup, and soondubu. Spicy squid, spicy pork and kimchi jjigae were barely spicy and had too much sugar/sweetener added. It looked good in the photos and these are some of my favorite Korean dishes. Classic Korean comfort food. We were all very disappointed and could barely eat half of our entrees. Soondubu broth did not have a good flavor like you would typically find at a soondubu restaurant. It tasted noticeably sweet and it's not supposed to be sweet at all. It's really hard to mess this up. You can find much better tasting premade soondubu seasoning packets at any Asian grocery store for a few dollars. The dumpling soup was probably the best dish out of all we ordered. The broth was mild and dumplings very basic. They tasted like typical premade frozen dumplings. The side dishes (banchan) were overly and/or inappropriately sweet too. For example, the kimchi was sweet like they added equal parts sugar and salt when it was made. Very unusually sweet. The service was just fine. Quick to order and food came out relatively soon after. They offered us traditional hot tea and waiters were friendly. As a Korean, I hope all Korean restaurants do well and more people learn to enjoy Korean foods, which is why I'm so disappointed in this restaurant. If you enjoy sweet Americanized Korean food, you'll probably like this place. If you want traditional Korean flavors and foods, I recommend you try another place.

Yelp
A first visit... I decided to try out this place with a coworker of mine, who is also a Korean. When we got to the restaurant at around 7:50 PM, there weren't that many people at all. Maybe 3 other tables were taken, so it was a bit empty for a Friday night... We ordered Bibimbap (Mixed Rice with Beef), one Spicy Pork, and Spicy Tofu Soup. Shared most of the food, along with rice and side dishes. Service was kind of slow when the place wasn't busy at all. It was a bit of a hassle to flag the server down. Food took a while to come out as well. But when we did get our entrees, most of the items tasted good. Had to also ask for hot sauce (gochujang) when the Bibimbap came out, because they forgot it. All in all, it was an alright Korean restaurant, but probably will go to better ones around the area. Did enjoy eating the Bibimbap with Beef, but the side dishes and 2 other entrees were just OK. Some flavor was missing...

Yelp
Love this place. Great food. Good prices. Hot stone can't be beat. Sort of low key seating with booths. Not fancy.

Yelp
House of Milae is a noteworthy restaurant nestled in Bethesda Row, offering a fusion of Americanized Korean cuisine. While the food is undeniably good, it falls slightly short in capturing the authentic flavors of traditional Korean dishes. For those with an Asian palate seeking bolder tastes, the offerings might feel a tad mild. Additionally, the portion sizes are on the smaller side. However, considering its prime location and representation of Korean cuisine in the area, House of Milae earns a solid four stars. It's a pleasant spot for a meal, especially for those who enjoy a fusion of Korean and American flavors. For truly Korean taste, I would find another place. Overall is good.

Yelp
One word.... Yum! Lol! So I have been wanting some kimchi rice for a looooooooong time. Even tried to make some myself and it was good, but I wanted a go to place that I could have some at any time. I found it in House of Milae. I have walked by this restaurant for over a year and finally decided to give it a whirl. Location: Plenty of street parking and a parking garage right across the street. You might miss it if you are not looking but it is located on the same block where you would see Vuk pizza, Chef Tony's, and Bethesda Florist. The Restaurant: At first glance and upon entry, it appears to be a small place. But if you venture into the back, there is more seating. They have a small bar area and mostly consist of booths and stand alone tables. The place is also clean, something that ALWAYS gets bonus points in my book. The food: So I ordered the Kimchi fried rice with beef and it was really good in my opinion. If I had to make any changes, I would probably add a tad bit more kimchi and maybe salt or soy sauce? But that is where the complimentary sides come in. They give you five, yes I said five, lol, sides. I don't know the official names for them but it was a side kimchi, cucumbers, mashed potatoes, radish and some other side that I have no idea what it was, lol, sorry. But the sides were great! Nice little portion. Same with the fried rice. I actually have been multiple times and they give you enough to actually be able to share the dish with another person of need be. The Service: I have not had any bad experiences and the food comes out in a timely manner. Even when they are busy and the servers do provide good customer service. All in all will probably go back and try some of their other items.

Yelp
Dose not look like much when you past it. But once you go in, it's a great Korean experience of not only food but the service. The servers ensured that we were taken care of until the end of our experience. The young server was gentle, kind and ver polite. A true representation of the Korean hospitality. The food was amazing. The shot ribs were really juicy and the banchans are always my favorite. I will definitely come back. #foodlover, this is a place for a great Korean food and hospitality experience.

Yelp
Fast, Spicy and Fancy! Korean favorites and extras. Love coming here and having five small plates of sides brought out right away. Kimchi is spiced to an American level. Radishes have been great sometimes, ok others. Cucumbers are generally just ok. But this is just the start. Main courses for lunch are 11 dollars and filling. Pork, beef or veggie rice bowls. Pancakes are a bit greasy at times but always taste great.

Yelp
Ugh. I wanted to love this local Korean spot but it was just bad. We threw most of the food out. Sad.

Yelp
I ordered beef bibimbap. And actually there's no beef there. I called the restaurant. They asked me to prove that there's no beef?! Don't call yourself a restaurant anymore! The worst local restaurant!

Yelp
OK ok... I see you. In 2013 I gave House Of Milae 2 Stars: Reasoning- bland kimbab, meeger banchan portions, medicore seafood pancake, mediocre bulgogi In 2015 I upgraded House Of Milae to 3 Stars: Reasoning- great service, delicious spicy pork bibimbap and flavor packed a punch, improved jeon. Now in 2017, I am upgrading House Of Milae again... to 4 Stars: Over the past few months I've been there several times and the food has just improved significantly over the past year or two. Banchan portions are still pretty meeger, but I'm pretty sure more come with the meal now. And the flavors are pretty spot on. One thing I'm not happy about is that the prices have gone up, on an already fairly pricey meal. BUT, the quality is there. And I know that any restaurant in Bethesda is paying out the *Bleep* for rent. So I understand it... I just don't like it. We ordered the kimchi fried rice, seafood jeon, and the bulgogi. Bulgogi is REALLY on point now. I think the portion has decreased a little bit which is a bit saddening, but the flavor of the dish is just spot on for me. Kimchi fried rice ( a new addition to the menu). Now this portion is massive. I mean, the bowl that is comes in is like the size of half a basketball. And this B is filled to the top with rice, decent portion of pork throughout (you can get it with other meats), and there is a perfectly fried sunny side up egg on top with a small pile of julienned toasted seaweed on top of that. The spice level is nice and apparent without being too aggressive. Service is great! Attentive without being too overbearing. I have to recommend this place to friends. Stand out dishes: Jap Chae, Jeon, Kimchi fried Rice, Galbi, Bulgogi. Pretty much, everything I've had in the past handful of months :)

Great place for Korean food! The portions are more than satisfying and the staff is always super kind and attentive. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Came for dinner on Thursday. They weren't too busy around 7pm but more people started to come in after us. Our waitress was very nice and came by to check on us often. We ordered the small beef hotstone bibimbap with sunny side egg and chili sauce (they actually just give you all the sauces on the side so you can add what you want). We also got the seafood tofu soup. They had five banchan included. Kimchi, spicy radish, potato salad, fish cake, and cucumbers. All the banchan tasted fresh and yummy. We didnt try to ask for refills so I'm not sure if they do refills. The hotstone bibimbap was so good! They were able to make the rice so crispy but it also didn't stick to the stone so it was pretty easy to mix everything together. After adding in the chili sauce, it was great! The small size is good for one person. The seafood tofu soup comes with a bowl of rice. The broth was nice and tasted of seafood. There were clams, mussels, and octopus. It had a good amount of tofu. However, it could use some more salt and spice. Everything was pretty affordable. Each dish was about $14 and enough for two people. I'd definitely come back if I'm craving bibimbap!

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants in the DMV area! The food is delicious and will satisfy your cravings for Korean food, even if it's not an AYCE spot. Being car-less, I had to check out House of Milae since it's in walking distance of a metro station (unlike all the Korean spots in VA). My favorites here include the galbi (must order!), seafood or kimchi pancake, and japchae. I also enjoyed the bulgogi. Service is very prompt and efficient, which I appreciate, and the atmosphere is casual and family friendly. It's also a reliable place to eat on a busy weekend. I came here for my graduation dinner from Georgetown since every spot in DC was super busy, and my party was accommodated right away! There is a parking garage across the street if you come via car, and the Bethesda metro is just a few blocks away. I'm moving back to California in a few days and there are few Asian restaurants I'll miss from the DMV. House of Milae tops the list!

Yelp
I've pretty much marked the best Asian places of Bethesda, and this makes my list on the best Korean place here. To quote my brother, this place is pretty "tasty". They serve little nice side dishes as most Korean restaurants do (thank god), and they're very generous with it! The portions are also very generous as well, which makes up for the price, which I think is just a bit steeper than it should for a simple bibimbap. My mom and friend have also gone here as one of my recommendations, and they went for the seafood pancake. When we all came together, we ordered the kimchi pancake, and they both agreed that the kimchi pancake was definitely better, and very tasty. As for the bibimbap, I ordered beef, and my mom ordered chicken. I was particularly impressed at how they made the chicken. It was marinated well, and worked very well with the overall dish. If you are not feeling beef but still want a bibimbap, chicken is actually a pretty good choice. The only reason I don't give it a 5 is because I think the prices are a bit odd (I haven't really seen a korean place charge more for using a hot stone bowl for a bibimbap), and I think the service was a bit lacking as well. All the wait staff were very kind, we constantly had to wave for their attention, and it was a bit hard to distinguish the workers since there doesn't seem to be a uniform.

Yelp
This is a nice gem in Bethesda. The menu is limited with only the most popular items. The service could you some help but everything else is good otherwise. We like the pancakes for appetizers - both the scallion and seafood variety. The pancakes are well cooked and has the right amount of crunch. The accompanying sauce is good too. For the main course, my favorite is the Bibimbap with the Chili Pepper sauce. The decor inside is nice too.

Yelp
These guys have a great lunch special so I would definitely recommend coming here during lunch time to take advantage of their great pricing. I probably come here 3-4 times a month so here are my favorites: Appetizers: - Kimchi Pancake - Very solid pancake option - Seatfood Pancke - My second favorite pancake option here Entrees: - Bulgogi Bowl - This is usually my go-to lunch at this place. Make sure that you ask for gochujang (spicy red pepper paste) to put on top. - Bi Bim Bap - I generally avoid the lunch special version of this because it doesn't come in the hot stone pot (I know I'm spoiled). If you're going to get bibimbop I'd recommend paying the few extra dollars and getting the stone bowl versio.

Yelp
Went there with my family and while the food was good the service was terrible. The waiter served the table next to us drinks and food before even coming to take our order - and they got there 10 minutes after we were already seated. One of our cups had food still on it and he said he was going to replace it and then disappeared for half an hour. Also I left my wallet there which was totally my fault but I'm pretty sure the waiter went through it and all my cash was gone. When I went to go pick it up again I was waiting at the counter and they were super rude and inattentive despite not being busy at all. Honestly felt really disgusted by the service at this place and will definitely not be going back and telling all my friends not to go there.

Yelp
My Korean husband and sibling-in-laws approved! This little not-so-Korean-sounding Korean restaurant has amazing side dishes, well-cooked, delicious main dishes, and very friendly servers. The side dishes were a hit - I generally don't love the side dishes as much since I'm not a huge fan of kimchi or strongly flavored things, but I LOVE the mashed potato, cucumber, and fish cake. My hubby loved the fresh kimchi - but my brother in law thought it could be fermented for longer. He did approve of the small bites, though! The appetizer pancakes and the dumplings were equally delicious. They loved the fluffy-ness and the chewiness of the pancake. I think the mandu has the perfect size, texture (some were deep fried too hard), and flavor. The main dishes were wonderful - spicy pork, kimchi tofu, pork belly, and bibimbaps, everyone loved their food so much, I was very surprised. I don't usually hear high compliments about food in Korean restaurants very often from them! We didn't love the tofu soup, but I think that's because no tofu soup could top tofu lighthouse's. On a Friday night, there were only 2 servers for the entire place. While they were SUPER friendly and accommodating, the pace was rather slow. Love this place and would definitely come back!!! Highly recommend.

Yelp
The worst carryout place! Make sure you check and open your carryout order before leaving this place Staff here are so forgetful and would even tell you "You don't get any special treatment if we forget to bring your carryout order for curbside pickup". The most rude "manager" I have ever dealt with!

Yelp
I really enjoyed this place. What I didnt enjoy was trying to find parking...but thats a different story. This place has some good korean food, and some really nice people. The interior is nice, with booths lining one side of the wall, and then a bar and the end. So we started off with the seafood pancake. It was very plesant. It was probably one of the most crunchy seafood pancakes ive had, crispy, cruncy, but still delicate and not too heavy. It had a decent amount of seafood in it, and it paired very well with the sweet sauce it comes with. The portions are not huge here (just a heads up, but the food is tasty). For my entree I got the calamari. This was one of the few times ive gotten not-fried calamari. It was cooked it a gochujang like sauce which was nice and sweet + spicy. It had a lot of vegetables in (mushrooms, zucchini maybe?) Which were also pretty tasty. I usually see the veggies as filler (which it might have been) but they were cooked nicely and they paired well with the sauce it was cooked in. I do wish that there was more squid. It was definently pricey for what youre getting, but not totally unreasonable (paying for that bethesda rent). I definently want to go back here again and try the kimchi fried rice next time. Ive seen pictures and it looks really good especially with the egg on top. If youre looking for korean food, and youre in bethesda, I would give this place a shot.

Yelp
House of Milae is a great spot to sit down and grab your authentic, home-cooked feel Korean food fix. The place doesn't look like much walking by, it is for sure a hole in the wall restaurant that will not disappoint. The food is just delicious! They serve banchan (little side dishes/appetizers) that most Korean restaurants will serve you before or with your main meal. The banchan consists of spicy radish, mashed potatoes, kimchi, and cucumbers. The spicy radish was hands down my favorite - I ended up finishing the whole dish. I did not regret asking for more which they were generous about! I ended up ordering the hot stone bibimbap. I love that you are able to customize your bibimbap bowl. You can choose the type of protein (chicken, beef, mushroom, pork, etc.), the way you would like your egg cooked (over easy, sunny side up, etc.), and if you would like crispy or soft rice. I went with beef with crispy rice because who doesn't love bulgogi?! The meat was marinated well and tender, I do wish there was a tiny bit more meat in the bowl though. It comes with a side of sauces that you can add on top (chili, soy sauce, and spicy curry). I thought the perfect mix was chili with a little bit of curry. The base ingredients of the bibimbap aside from the rice and protein consisted of bean sprouts, carrots, lettuce and spinach - everything mixed together was very delicious. However, next time I will do without lettuce since it ended up getting warm and soggy with the sizzling rice. The wait staff were very nice, but we had to try to get their attention a couple of times. Nonetheless, they were accommodating and pleasant! There is paid parking around the spot during the weekdays since the restaurant is located in downtown Bethesda. I plan to come back with more room to try their pancakes with my bibimbap!

Yelp
Customer service was amazing. Food was flavored really well - like not bland and actually spicy (a good level with flavor but not to the point where your mouth or stomach burns). Also loved all the sides that we received especially the pickled radish.

Yelp
Yummy Korean food in the heart of Bethesda. Appropriately spicy. Scallion pancake was a Great way to start our meal, followed by a golden and tofu kimchi. The restaurant is generous with the mini small bowls of assorted kimchi as well. Venue is a bit on the loud side if full and, unfortunately, has two TVs on most of the time. This is not a fancy place. Slightly run down. Nevertheless, for this kind of quality Korean food, it's hard to find in this area. Price is reasonable.

Yelp
Great Korean restaurant near the heart of downtown Bethesda - fantastic menu with lots of choices that make for a perfect lunch on a cold day. The bulgogi here turned out to be a great choice, would definitely repeat it, and even better it was a decent portion.

Yelp
Since our favorite Korean restaurant in Silver Spring closed, we have been trying to find a decent replacement. We finally made the trip to Bethesda to try HOM. Service was great, food was delicious and, while I have never actually been to Korea, it appears to be as traditional as I've ever had. Can't speak for the wait at dinner time, but we were there at lunch and had no trouble getting a booth. Will definitely return soon. Highly recommended.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this restaurant and it has to be one of the best Korean food I've had (and I've been to Koreatown in NYC and L.A.). I ordered the Bulgogi beef dinner with white rice and it came with small five side dishes. Needless to say, I ate it all. If I was to ever return to this area in the future, I will certainly be coming back here.

Yelp
Authentic and home-style Korean cooking. House of Milae is a small but comfortable venue with a simple, no frills menu featuring some traditional Korean classics. The banchan are tasty and generously portioned, and I love the hot stone bibimbap because they always get the crispiness and texture of the rice just right.
