Comfortable and clean place in Piccadilly square, but located in basement with no other access but by stairs. Just missed the buffet hour so we tried dinner menu. Friendly service. -Veg samosa 2 pc $15.90 -Chicken 65 biryani $18.95 was very good and heat level was quite hot. -Shrimp tandoori Masala $24.95 was small portion for the price, comes with rice -Garlic Naan $4.95 -mango Lassi $5.95 Would love to try their buffet.

Came here for the buffet and was not disappointed. Nice variety of vegetarian and meat dishes, fruit, chutneys, dessert and hot masala tea. All dishes very well made and tasty. I much prefer this kind of buffet as I get to enjoy many more things at one sitting. My friend and I sat for three hours having a great conversation and eating a bit of food over the course of our stay.

While still able to put away gargantuan amounts of food, my visits to any buffet spots have decreased tremendously over the last decade. My preference for cooked to order has far exceeded the desire to get the most of out of the dollar with food that has been hot held for god knows how long (not to mention endless reheats). So what makes this spot an exception to that preference? So far, all the Indian spots I've been to around here since the move have simply served rehears of precooked dishes (except for Naan), which is honestly to no surprise and a non-issue. The only time I usually have an issue with reheats is when it comes to Tandoori anything. Even that is understandable as who really wants to wait 30-40 minutes. With all that in mind and considering what is offered at this buffet line daily, I found myself making that one exception. I usually order tandoori chicken, goat curry, saag of any kind, chana or dal, and basmati rice anywhere I go. So with these often at this buffet, it made sense to just come here for a couple plates and pay significantly less for just about the same quality and taste. Definitely recommend this spot for a fast and relatively cheap Indian cuisine fix.

I loved this place. Came on Wed night and it was sparsely populated enough such that my date felt intimate. Food was really good! We had 1 beer each, garlic naan, vegi samosa, garlic samosa, vegi masala and chicken chow Mei. Everything was delicious! My gf thought she didnt like indian until now. Haha. Service was great, price was fair, atmosphere was upscale indian-esq.

I was there for buffet at about 2:10 pm. Even though they close their buffet at 2:30 pm, they filled out their buffet cabinets again such that I get enough to eat. Oh my kebab!!! This may be a new go to favorite of mine! Just for the chicken kebabs alone - which were astonishingly tender juicy flavorful yummylicious! Ordered delivery through Grubhub - after having tried some of this food at work when we had a catered lunch at the office. Food was so good and I'm glad I asked where it came from! So tonight when I had a craving for Indian food, decided to try them out. Order came in a reasonable amount of time. Prices for entrees are a bit high but the portions are quite good. Dal maharani was creamy delicious. Aloo gobhi was fresh and tasty, goat curry meat was tender and sauce was rich and savory. All entrees come with basmati rice. Chicken biryani was fragrant and flavorful. Aloo chaat papri was crunchy sour and sweet. Plain naan was ok a bit chewy. And surprise surprise the order came with the complimentary papad - which you always get in the restaurant but never in delivery from any restaurant and I've ordered from quite a few Indian restaurants. That is a mystery this has never been solved so I was quite pleased to see the papads. I devoured the food and was so full and we have plenty of leftovers for hubs and me to enjoy over the next few days. Try it if you have not already and if nothing else then go for the chicken kebab :)

I LOVE Indian buffets and lament their post covid disappearance. 100% as expected, since there's a great standard across the industry for this specific food Buffett. Service was sweet and attentive, though not much is needed for a buffet. The best part is leaving their carafe of water for self refilling, which I wish more restaurants did. ( waiting for a water refill is THE most maddening !) Charming location in Newton Centre's 'Piccadilly' section that runs along Union street/behind Beacon and is directly across from the storybook charming ORIGINAL 1890's green line station. Parking is essentially fine, though Newton centre is a bit tricky some times to find a spot ... which indicates what a sweet shopping district it is! There's actually MORE cool, boutiques 'back' in Piccadilly than in the main triangle , but the back side is so easy to forget. Make the effort to cruise down Union street more often to remind yourself of the treasures in Piccadilly ! Since there are so few Indian buffets left, I'll be going out of my way to return! REVIEW #2! Could not wait to return, and today's the day! Better than 12 days ago! So many interesting selections. I LOVE this place. It's most definitely on my short list of future lunches.

I just ordered takeout but wow when you step into this restaurant you feel like you're in a traditional Indian restaurant. This restaurant is conveniently located across very close to the Newton Center T stop in Piccadilly Square. I was starving and had the Chicken Tikka Masala, Vegetable Pakora, and Saag Paneer. Each dish was delicious! Obviously with all this food and just me I had leftovers of each dish but sadly didn't get myself enough naan. I can't speak to the service for dining in but the gentleman who gave me my food was very nice. I also cannot stress how tasty this food was! When I go back and dine in person, I'm sure I'll have more positive things to say about this place.

The place has a warm, lovely, simple decor, quiet ambiance. The service was attentive and kind. We had the lunch buffet. Everything was delicious-- and we tried everything! My family was there to please my taste (I really like Indian cuisine) but we ALL enjoyed and went to try more foods after their first plate. It's definitely going to be a regular stop for us! The plus was it's reasonable priced, too.

We ate here for their lunch buffet with the kids. The restaurant is down a level across from the Newton Center train. They had a lot of variety and had a whole platter of samosas. There was also chai and couple of dessert options. We also had naan at the table. We came near the tail end of the lunch service(about 1 hr before) so it was not too crowded and was seated quickly. Would come here again.

Review update . Totally disappointed with last takeout. Almost broke my teeth on their Goat Biryani - the bones were everywhere, not just the large joints- but the small very sharp broken tubular bones, the kind that could land you in the EMERGENCY ROOM with perforated esophagus. We had to eat this rice dish with our hands feeling for the bones with our fingers this is how dangerous this dish was. The other dish LambSaag - lamb was so dry , no one ate it. And the dessert Gulab Jamun 6$ for tiny two balls of dough .. not what the picture on the menu looked like - rip off Never ever again ! Keep your teeth , stay out of hospital ! Stay away

I tried this place through too good to go and I really liked it! Super flavorful and fresh. I'll be dining in there soon. They gave me curry, samosas, and rice - it was yummy!

My family and I come here on a regular basis-- it's delicious and comes in large portions. Definitely a good spice level!

We only done takeout but this place rivals Devon Avenue in Chicago. Serious legitimate Indian and Himalayan meal options. We just moved out of Newton and I'm already craving their tandoori and momos. Their staff follows up on deliveries and ensuring all is in order. Will definitely miss this place!

There are so few places that do Indian lunch buffets anymore. This one was still up and running at 2:15 on a weekday and they were extremely solicitous for those of us who were eager to secure some extra helpings as lunch wound down. This restaurant deserves lots of credit. I got to sample very good chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, chana masala, a variety of pakora, a number of unfamiliar but delicious vegetable and goat dishes, gulub jamun, and garlic naan for a great price. They also provided a full complement of tasty Indian accompaniments. I've been dying to expose my favorite six-year-old to Indian food in an environment where she has a lot of low-risk options and I think that this might be the place!

The best Naan in town. I prefer the standard butter Naan. But I've had the garlic and the cheese ones too. Both are stuffed with their respective goodies. Get the regular Naan for dipping though. It's the highlight. I've tried the chicken Tikka and chicken Tandoori and a number of other dishes. Everything is fresh and so good. I've stuck to all chicken dishes, but I was never disappointed. I can't comment on the other dishes, but I expect they're good as well. Order and pickup was super easy. Everything is made fresh and so expect a good amount of time for it to be prepared. That's a good thing. Highly recommend this place for Indian food.

One of my favorite restaurants! The food is always fresh and absolutely delicious. I've never had anything I didn't like! I love everything I've tried but there is something so special about their chicken tikka sauce, I just want to lick the plate clean! Everything is perfectly seasoned and flavorful. The staff are so friendly and attentive, it's like you're a part of their family. Highly recommend for top notch Indian food!

The food and service is great! I typically do their buffets and they have the best selections. They always have goat, chicken tikka masala, chicken tandoori, a couple appetizers and many more entrees. They are also very hospitable and attentive. This an amazing family tun business that offers amazing food and service!

This is my favorite Indian restaurant of all time for good reason. The first time I had their chicken tikka masala, I almost started crying. It was creamy and sweet while still letting the spices shine. Make sure to also get the mango lassi, garlic naan, and samosas with your order. Their lunch buffet is mostly vegetarian, but super worth it because you get to try a bunch of different dishes for such a cheap price.

Got delivery with my roommate and we both enjoyed our meals! She ordered the chicken tikka masala and a side salad and raved about the flavor of the sauce and portion. I ordered the lamb saag with aloo naan and loved the large chunks of tender lamb, complex sauce and spiced flavor of the spiced potato inside the fluffy naan. I highly recommend and will definitely come back in thee future!

Stopped by House of Tandoor yesterday for a quick bite & a drink-- truly delicious food, attentive and friendly service and a peaceful atmosphere. I highly recommend the chicken kebab! Will be back!

oh my, delicious with a capital D. Sweetest waitresses, all our curries were on point, and momos are yummy. Pretty little restaurant in the basement floor of a row of shops in Newton Center. What a gem.

We sat outside and were pleased with the service. Ordered: spring roll, Nepalese chow mein, lamb curry, tandoori chicken, lamb kebab, and garlic naan. The spring rolls and noodles were just so-so, but the flavors of the main dishes were delicious. Meats were tender and basmati rice was perfect. Only taking away 1 star for not having a steak knife. The kebab needed something sharper than a butter knife but they could only come up with an oyster shucker! Liked the food so will return. Hey guys: buy some knives!

I LOVE House of Tandoor. Their Tandoori Salmon is my personal favorite. My mouth waters just thinking about it. We often get a boat load of orders and watch a family movie together. We recently went there for Mother's Day and had the Buffet, which was really interesting, and it was fun to try new things. My favorite was their chickpea dish, but I forget the name.

Ordered the lunch special. Portion size was for a child. 3 pieces of meat. The chicken meat was dry and the basmati rice was bland and had no seasoning. Terrible

I was craving Indian for dinner so I was pleasantly surprised to find this highly rated restaurant searching for Indian restaurants in the Newton area. I ordered and paid online and my food was hot and ready when I arrived to pick it up. I was ordering takeout to feed my kids and I an easy meal, so I ordered two orders of chicken tikka and an assortment of hot appetizers. I LOVE how their menu items are clearly marked gluten-free! My kids said that this was the best chicken tikka sauce they've ever had and the hot appetizers were all devoured. My only complaint - and its kind of a big one - is WHY NO RICE?? Was I supposed to order it separately? By the time I got home and unpacked our order, it was such a bummer to see that there was no rice to serve with the chicken tikka. I made my own rice to serve with dinner, but that kind of defeats the purpose of having an easy takeout meal. We also ordered a cucumber and tomato salad with plans to add it to a salad I was planning on making, but the salad was really just a small container of cucumbers and tomatoes. It was not expensive, but I bet you can find a better salad choice on the menu. My vegetarian daughter wanted the veggie biryani and that came with a raita - it had a lot of flavor! I am excited that there are some leftovers to be had tomorrow. So ... all in all, delicious - but the rice situation was so annoying. I might try to call and find out if that was my mistake or theirs...

I tried House of Tandoor for the first time last night and loved it. We had had the vegetable biryani, goat curry, vegetable pakora, garlic naan and raita. The pakora and naan starters were delicious. The vegetable biryani and an awesome mix of veggies and very good flavor. The goat curry tasted excellent but some of meat was tough and fatty. Overall, all our food was well enjoyed and we'll definitely eat here again!

Food is okay, great price and portion. Fairly authentic but not catered per meal causing flavours to be lossed. The owner however has the coolest of uncle vibes, just seemed like a rather cool guy.

Felt like having momos so got takeout from here on a Friday night. Placed order online. You can add a note for each item as you add it to the cart; I had requested spicy for everything but none of it was. The chili momos and chicken chili had leaked sauce that had gone through the brown paper bag they came in, literally ripping it at the bottom. The chow mein had no seasoning at all - not exaggerating - don't know how they managed this, honestly; I had to sauté it again with a whole bunch of garlic, chilies, and spices to give it some semblance of flavor because I don't like throwing food out. Two stars for the pan fried momos and steamed lamb momos, which were decent. Maybe their Indian food is better? There are way better Himalayan options in the area.

Finally, a place in Newton that has great Indian food! In my opinion, one of the biggest pitfalls in MA is the lack of good, quality ethnic food. I find myself missing Indian, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, etc. food constantly. With the ongoing pandemic, I've been forced to eat at home. While this has been nice on my wallet, I've found myself getting bored of the limited amount of dishes that I can make. I discovered House of Tandoor while looking at nearby restaurants on DoorDash. ** PLEASE NOTE: Check House of Tandoor's personal website to see if you live within their delivery zip codes. If you order delivery directly through them, the costs are MUCH cheaper than if you went through another app/merchant. On top of that, you help the restaurant directly! I only purchase through House of Tandoor's own delivery now. ** My typical order: chicken makhani and a lot of freaking naan. House of Tandoor typically only opens for dinner (4PM EST), so please be mindful of this when you are putting in your order. I was able to put in my order online with no issues, set a time for it to be delivered (after 5PM EST), and then waited. Food was piping hot when it arrived. The driver was wearing a mask + gloves and dropped off the food inside my building. He gave me a ring to make sure that he saw me come out and get it. Yay for social distance delivery! The food itself is fantastic. The chicken makhani was perfect, as were the naan. The chicken is cooked well and is not dry. The curry sauce is amazing and I wish I could just drink it. The naan were fluffy and warm. The portions of the food are also excellent. I'm able to get 1.5-2 days worth of meals out of it. I can't speak to the dining in portion, as I've never been here in person, but the interactions I've had with the employees has been nothing but stellar. If I could eat here every day (without hurting my waistline or my wallet), I would. House of Tandoor is a small, family-owned business and I am happy to support them - especially in times like this! So good! The vegetable curry is so flavorful. I can't not get it when I go but everything I've had is so so good.

First time eating here and was blown away by the service and quality of the food. Ordered the meat and seafood hot appetizer platter. The vegetable pakora was delicious! Vegetable samosas were perfectly fried and plump full of potato and peas. The saag paneer was so good, and the naan bread basket was impressive! Can't wait to come back to this local gem!

It's date night, it's down pouring slush, it's cold and grey, we're stuck in traffic on 95... after missing our reservation we decided Indian food at home would be the best fix to a cold February night. Haven't looked back since. The first time we had takeout, I would say it was a 7.5 out of 10. Everything was tasty but a little too salty. We have since visited at least once a month since that cold night and they keep impressing us! First things first. They are so nice. It is expected that restaurants and guests have a level of civility to one another. This is the kind of nice that fills my heart with joy. (We're in the middle of the pandemic. I could order delivery... I'd rather pick it up they are so nice). Food: A+ We're pretty basic when it comes to Indian food, Chicken Tikka masala, saag paneer, lamb rogan Josh, Keemar and plain nan, and samosas. This is the most flavorful CTM ever. Big pieces of white meat. So tender it'll bring a tear to your eye. So. Many. Flavors. Saag paneer is always on point. And the Lamb Rogan Josh has a marriage of flavors that blows my mind. How can one bite of food carry so many flavors? It's amazing. Yesterday was my first day back at work. Like in the city. It was creepy and quiet and I emotionally exhausting. I did not feel like cooking. Coming home to a surprise Indian meal that was so spectacular I am contemplating heating it up for breakfast... I just have to give House of Tandoor all the love.

Excellent very flavorful food and take out service. The sauces were delicious and spicy. So was the food. Highly recommend if you enjoy flavorful food. If you prefer bland boring food - probably not for you or be sure to request non spicy. We will definitely return to try more dishes.

Pro's: monos were tasty, the chaat was fresh and the food arrived hot on time. Cons: The naan was like rubber and the curries lacked any taste. The chef really does not know how to season the food. The samosas were soggy because the packed hot food into a paper container. Hate to ding a local place but wish they seasoned the food a little better.

Ordered from this place for the first time- impressed by the quality and taste of the items! I visited the restaurant for a pickup and found the ambience to be great. Will look forward to a dine-in, when the time is right! Quick mention- Momos are served with a good sauce/chutney, probably made from neem leaves(curry leaves).

Good food, courteous service but not very efficient, fair price. We sat outside, on a small porch, to meet our standards regarding the Pandemic. The food was good, we sampled several dishes, all of which were between reasonable and good. The Chicken Momo steamed dumpling was too spicy for our taste (in general you have to be careful and check with the waitress what the level of spiciness of each dish is, and here even we missed). We ordered green tea from the menu and it turns out they run out of stock. We ordered Masala Chai served lukewarmly. The two desserts were good (rice pudding and Kulfi Badam) but arrived a few minutes apart.

Discovered this place by accident when walking to a nearby restaurant one night. Thrilled to have a local source for Momos -- and theirs are spectacular. I always get veggie momos in soup, even after driving home they are piping hot. The entrees and breads are excellent as well. Looking forward to dining in when the pandemic is over.

My wife and I really enjoyed our first meal at House of Tandoor. We ordered the lamb mono (dumplings), which were tasty but a little weird to be eating without chopsticks. One entrees was a very flavorful Nepalese dish khukhura ra saag (chicken and spinach), which drew curious onlookers from another table. The highlight dish was the goat curry, which we enjoyed very much, to the great delight of our server from Nepal. It tasted fresh and not at all gamey, and paired well with the rice and roti which we ordered. Prices were very reasonable, and we had leftovers to take home. The service was attentive and the meal was prepared and served without delay, even though the dining room was full at 8 pm. The only glitch was that our reservation was not in their book (they do not have an electronic system), so we had to wait about 15 minutes for our table.

I have only gotten takeout from here, so I can't comment on the in restaurant experience, but this was the best Indian take out we've had in years. The dishes are well flavored and diverse, avoiding the all to common heavy handed application of oil and cream that so many Indian restaurants fall victim to. The vegetable pakoras somehow maintained some crispiness despite the journey home and were well done. The vegetable masala was richly flavored and the ryo ko saag was a mild fresh testing balance to the spicier dishes. My personal favorite was the channa kabuli: not too oily, but an excellent balance of spices. I tried both the naan and chapati, which were quite good. Others gave good reviews to the lamb seekh kabob and chicken tikka masala. The only dish I didn't care much for were the vegetable momos, but there are quite a lot of options to choose from. Unlike some restaurants, many of the dishes seem truly unique and not variants of one theme. From other reviews, I take it the restaurant has had some growing pains, but that wasn't evident from my experience today.

In the post-COVID-era very few Indian restaurants have opted to serve buffet, instead focusing on take out and traditional dine in service. It appears that most have determined that increased food costs, combined with omnipresent waste, make the buffet model unappealing. Yet some brave establishments still offer this option, with an understandable increase in price. House of Tandoor is the gold-standard in nearly every way when it comes to lunch buffet, which for me is the ideally affordable way to enjoy Indian cuisine. The full meal experience including Masala tea (theirs is first-rate), soup (different each day and ranging from adequate to far better than average), tasty appetizers, fresh naan made to order (and they are happy to prepare without butter, if requested), and then outstanding entrees, and well-conceived deserts. They even offer additional choices on weekends, including a delicious shrimp do-Paizza dish that combines shrimp, peppers, onions and exotic spices. I am not even a big fan of seafood, but this signature offering is a refreshing addition to the many staples which are executed so well at House of Tandoor. The staff is pretty friendly, and the dining room has a surprising charm and ambiance. One needs to descend below the ground level to enter the restaurant, which is calm and festive. The music is authentic and appropriate, though they could feature more variety (sometimes the same song will repeat nonstop over the course of a full hour). Finally, the restrooms are surprisingly on point. Not usually a factor to draw attention to, but to be honest the restrooms one finds in restaurants are generally forgettable. Not true in their case, however. Both restrooms go above and beyond. Food is certainly the most important consideration when assessing the quality of a restaurant, and by this measure the buffet at House of Tandoor is unassailable. If it were closer to home I could see myself here 4-6 days a week, but as it is I will look forward to going whenever I am up for the drive!
