The 6 Best Thai Restaurants In Philly - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Some people might tell you that the Northeast is all about the steaks and sandwiches. And they wouldn’t be wrong. But it’s also full of Thai places—House Of Thai being the very best. The takeout-only spot is one of our go-tos for a standout casual dinner, but they open at 11am, so you can also grab a quick lunch and Thai iced tea before heading back to the office. Don’t miss the lightly breaded, perfectly chewy Siam chicken, the creamy green curry packed with tender eggplant, and anything with duck in it (it’s their specialty)." - alison kessler, candis mclean

My mother and I, tried this today. The service was very fast and it surprised me how quickly our appetizer came in. For our appetizer, we got the fried calamari. It was nice but some of the calamari weren't fried properly. Next, we also got mango juice, and Thai tea for drinks. Both drinks were good. Also I would like to note that the water here is actually fresh, without the dirty water Taste! So for our main entrees, I got the pad see-ew. It was a great dish, except for the part where the flat rice noodles tasted like dirty water. Not that I minded, it was sweet like it said it would be in the description. My mom got the Thai style pork ribs, it was tender and delicious, would definitely eat again! Anyways the server was very friendly and I would recommend this place if you live in Kinnelon, thanks for reading!

Google
Let me start off with the ribs is absolutely amazing. I also enjoyed the wings and they have a nice spice level to it but if you can't handle it definitely go for the other two options. Everyone enjoyed their food and I had the green curry which I've had better regarding (the curry) but overall I love all the vegetables that was included and it was flavorful. Shrimp and Scallops were cooked perfectly. So overall I would recommend. The mocktails are good. I'm a big Thai Tea fan but my friend said it isn't the best here. If I leave you with one recommendation definitely get the ribs that alone deserves a return. Presentation of food was great and service was awesome.

House of Thai is always consistent and delicious! I changed it up this time and tried the drunken noodles with soft shell crab, and it was so tasty! This will become your go-to place for Thai. Plenty of parking is a plus.

Google
This is my go-to place for Thai in the area. The flavor/spice profile of the Drunken Noodles (w/fried tofu) is perfection! I usually don't order anything else, but the last time I was in there my date and I agreed to try some other things on the menu. We wanted a curry dish but weren't sure which one... so the waiter brought us a sampler!!! That was such an awesome move - and now i can spread the gospel of their panang curry! (All of the other curries were also delicious, but all bow to panang 🙌) So now the next time I go, I will have a serious decision to make. Regardless of whether I choose the Drunken Noodles or Panang Curry, a half/half Thai Iced Tea and Mango Sticky Rice will be accompanying it. 5/5 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤

Google
I give this place 5 stars for a few reasons. One reason being that the food was absolutely great. I had the pineapple fried rice and Thai ribs. I thought both were great and I was able to take some home and reheat it, and it still came out delicious. I dined in alone for lunch and the host was extremely knowledgeable. He informed me what was expensive and what I could order to save a buck while still receiving the same amount of food. I thought that was great. The furniture and interior decoration was awesome making it the perfect place for a family night or a lunch or dinner date. I’d recommend for everyone.

Google
We love this place. Everything we've ever had was very flavorful and great. Love their red curry and pineapple fried rice. Their Thai ribs are the best ribs ever. If you like spicy food try their spicy rice. Sooo good! The staff is pleasant and extremely helpful. Love the decor and atmosphere. A cozy place for a great meal. We've dined in and done take out and the food was just as good with the take out which is not the case with many places. Highly recommend!

Google
Super delicious, no long wait, had 2 meals out of my order. Will go again

Google
Best Thai food around! Got the cauliflower special appetizer and Thai dumplings. For the dinner, drunken noodles with beef. So fresh and tasty. My friend got shrimp with ginger sauce. Can’t wait to go back. Always consistent and great service.

Yelp
Only done take-out but the e foods great. One of the better this places on the area. Singapore noodles are top notch.

Yelp
I had an incredible experience. Our server amelia was so kind and energetic. The spring rolls came out a little cold but she took it back no problem and we got some new very warm ones. It's very pretty in here. Very good atmosphere. Not too loud. The lighting is great(I'm a sucker for lighting) 10/10 experience

Yelp
So utterly disappointed We stopped by after a swim class next door hoping for some yummy Thai food and saw fantastic reviews. We stepped in the space is welcoming as are the staff, menu was solid and seemed promising. We ordered the sampler 2 of each item - I didn't look closely but upon arrival felt like we just picked up some bad Chinese food takeout.... Made fancy on a white dish. Chicken satay was fine, spring rolls left much to be desired, this meatball thing was good for the kids and the chicken and crab rangoon were basic fried items. None of it was authentically Thai. On to the soft shell crab drunken noodle (1/5) only redeeming factor was the crab I guess but overly fried too much batter. I took a bite of the noodles and NOOO half over and half under cooked. My tastebuds shattered in disbelief. I didn't take another bite. The sauce was just a red chili sauce of some kind and not even close to drunken noodles. So disappointed. Bangkok duck (3/5) solid portion but drenched in sauce. The duck was made well and thankfully had gotten that for the kiddos so they enjoyed that! Tofu ginger sauce dish (0/5) there were about 5 cubes of tofu which definitely wasn't cooked together with the sauce and loads of just peppers onions and mini corn. Total bust. Also drenched with sauce. Kicker is they include tip and if you don't look closely after you get your receipt to sign if you pay by card there's a total and "tip" line with no indication that a tip was added. So just be alert. We were a table of 4.. seemed odd. I kind of felt duped by all the other reviews and left feeling like I just paid a ton of money for a poorly executed American Chinese/asian meal. I wouldn't recommend sorry to say.

Yelp
Had to return! Their food is soooooo good, its also BYOB is is nice! Staff is wonderful! Did their chiang mai noodles which was creamy and full of flavor! The crispy duck with three flavor sauce is the best I have had with the exception of restaurants in Thailand! Love this spot!

Yelp
Casual place to have Thai food. Service was decent. We got the half and half Thai ice tea but next time I'd do the sweet Thai iced tea. The soup was my favorite part of the meal. Yellow curry was hot as in temperature, I don't feel like the spices came through until the next day when I ate my left overs. I'd try the drunken noodles next time. Would go back again.

Yelp
My husband grew up in Kinnelon and we lived in town when we had our first daughter and I've never tried this spot. I was very excited to because I love Thai. The Summer Thai Rolls are so refreshing and great as an appetizer. The lunch entree of the chicken green curry does not disappoint. The perfect amount of creaminess with the right amount of veggies. The ambiance is great and beautifully decorated. I was even commenting on the gold coin chandelier and light decor. Gorgeous. Would recommend coming here. The staff is super friendly as well! Great service- great ambiance - there's a parking lot because it's in the Meadtown complex.

Yelp
Food was fair at best. The fried cauliflower had a good fry, but was frozen in the center. The red snapper was uneatable, was old and smelled of old fish. How the chef did not smell this while cooking is beyond me. The crabmeat fried rice, had imitation crab meat and some claw. Was very disappointed in this meal.

Yelp
Had take out via door dash and food was pretty good. I got the drunken noodle. My mom loves their ginger soup when she's not feeling well. No photos because of it being take out.

Yelp
As far as Thai food goes, it was pretty good! No complaints. But unfortunately, we were hiking locally and it was our first time of the day and the customer service was some of the worst I've ever seen. The woman at the front was so rude and short with us, even though we were just taking to go and tipped her. And there was a man dressed and all black standing behind the counter, and when I asked him where the bathroom was he said "I don't work here." Just very odd people. I think business would be a lot busier if you had warmer service and nicer staff.

Yelp
My first time eating here in person and let me tell you... it did not disappoint. The environment is cute, trendy and welcoming. It is BYOB so plan ahead. The food was AMAZING. I absolutely love Thai food and this is seriously the best. Both of our starters were delicious!! The fried cauliflower was crisp with a sweet and tangy sauce. The salad was fresh and yummy. I got the red curry with tofu - fire spice and it was hot!!!! I loved it. My partner got the medium which was the perfect spice level for him. They can definitely accommodate to any spice level. If I could give them a 10 I would.

Yelp
Food was AMAZING!!! The taste of the various seasonings and the options were great! I would order from here over and over again.

Yelp
We've ate at House of Thai a couple times now and overall, it's been a good experience. People kept recommending we go here and we can see why. It's one of the few charming, yet interesting restaurants in the area. SO and I started out with curry puffs, especially tasty with the accompanying vinaigrette, even if the dish was a little bit small. For my entree, I had the pork pad thai and my SO, the shrimp fried rice. The pork was a little bit dry, yet both main dishes (as well as my previous takeout) were uncharacteristically wet. I'm not sure why it was so wet, but these are dishes that are certainly not supposed to be doused in sauce. However, we finished the meal on a good note with the salty-sweet khao neow mamuang. Ambiance is welcoming, perfect mix of cute + cozy. Warm and inviting on a cold winter night. Throughout the dinner, chatter floated through the air and you could tell that all were enjoying themselves. We even struck up a conversation with the table next to us. It's just one of those places!

Yelp
Truly terrific curries. My current favorite is the green. Lots of gluten free and allergy friendly options.

Yelp
I ordered the Pineapple rice with chicken and it was delicious. For appetizers, I had the spring rolls and the dumplings and equally as delicious. I like the decorations inside the restaurant and the host is very friendly.

Yelp
I am so impressed! I feel like I'm constantly being disappointed by Thai food out here - severely. But this was such a great surprise! Honestly I should've ordered double the glass noodles without anything else in there; they were just delicious (Next time)! The sampler was to share - I didn't get to the wings but they smelled good!! The crab Rangoon and spring rolls were my doing and I'll gladly do them over and over again! I'm honestly craving it right now but they're closed lol

Yelp
It was our first time at the house of Thai and the food was delicious, especially the Bangkok duck, we've already gone back a second time because it was so good.

Yelp
This place was GREAT! A little on the pricier side but totally worth it. My boyfriend and I never had Thai before and this was our first and favorite spot to have it. We had an awesome waitress! Forgive me.. I forgot her name but she was BEYOND helpful. Young girl, hardworking, knew the menu inside and out & was able to recommend dishes for us being first timers. The chicken dumplings were SO GOOD. Best dumplings I've ever had. We also got other dishes that I was unable to remember the names of but seriously every dish was absolutely amazing. My absolute favorite dish was the mango fried rice!!!!!!!!! YOU MUST TRY IT!!!! We went for the lunch special and definitely plan on going back for dinner one night. Best part - we live right around the corner! It is in a very convenient spot, the inside was very romantic and quiet. But not in a weird quiet way. I definitely will be back to this spot very soon! We were so happy with the experience, food and service!!!!

Yelp
If there one reason for me to recommend this restaurant is for the chicken wings the best I have ever tasted
google avatar

William M.

Yelp
The atmosphere is welcoming and service very friendly and attentive. The food is so good I have a hard time picking a dish. I recommend the Drunken Noodles or the Crispy Fied Whole Red Snapper. Just writing this makes me want to go there and get the fish. Check this place out!

Yelp
Our go to for Thai food. We usually get it to go and it's great. We finally ate in and it's really nice. Nice decor and the service was excellent. We will be eating in more often. You won't be disappointed.

Mike M.

Yelp
Have been eating at House Of Thai for years. Any friends who visit us put House Of Thai at the top of the list for where they want to eat. The dish presentation is always delightful. Everything about the place from the atmosphere, the food and the service is just perfect.

Yelp
A tasty gem in Kinnelon. The parking was easy, the interior was pleasant and the seating was comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful and service was quick. I especially liked the crispy duck salad and would recommend any item on the menu.

Carey T.

Yelp
Beware their gratuity con. They add a gratuity to your total (only 4 people) and neither mention it or show it on the credit card receipt. Check your totals and do not pay twice for a tip.

Danial N.

Yelp
Such a wonderful experience! The Thai wings were amazing! Chicken pad Thai was to die for! Service with a smile! If I have to travel back to the area for work again I will happily go back again!!

Lymor W.

Yelp
Our server was kind, patient and attentive. Food was delicious! Veggies cooked but not limp. Flavor, flavor, flavor. We will be back here!!!

Yelp
Amazing service and food. Love the deep fried shrimp-so fresh and huge. Great drunken noodles with duck, but spicy so make sure you specify how hot you like it.
google avatar

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
Once you have House Of Thai you can never eat Thai food from another place again. I'm serious, this is the best Thai food I have ever had. I been going here for about 6 years and they have never failed to amaze. They can basically customize anything and can make almost anything vegan if you just ask you waitress. Great place for take out or a casual dinner! The yellow curry with fried tofu is my favorite!!!
google avatar

Robin S.

Yelp
Delicious food and amazing service ! We started w a few appetizers and I couldn't pick a favorite. The honey soy ribs, coconut shrimp and seafood appetizer were all fantastic ! We were a party of 8 and all got something different and everyone was impressed with their meal. It's byob so it was very reasonable. We will definitely be back ! If you're in the area give them a try, awesome little hidden gem

Yelp
My husband and I ordered take out from here yesterday. The green curry is really good but the chicken was a little rubbery. I really did not like the pad Thai for several reasons (quality control issues). 1. I found a hair in it (it happens but it still freaks me out). 2. There was some sort of pickled vegetable (maybe cabbage?) in it. It was purple/pink and it somehow got in my dish. I saw that part of a noodle was purple/pink and thought maybe it was blood from uncooked chicken. Then I found something purple that smelled pickled (like vinegar) in it and figured it was that. Glad it wasn't uncooked chicken but it was still weird. 3. I'm used to getting tiny pieces of tofu in my pad Thai at other places as the standard along with my chicken pad Thai. I guess it's just different here. (Not a big deal if that's just how it's made here). 4. There were tiny pieces of egg shells in it. Despite everything, I would still go back for the green curry but I think I'm done with the pad Thai. :(

Nancy T.

Yelp
My first time there and the food was superb. And the service was on point. The environment was very welcoming.

Yelp
The place is a gem out in this area. You want real "Thai heat"? This is your answer. The place is decorated nicely and has a cozy ambiance. Colleen was our server and she was great. She made sure to ask about meat preferences as we placed our orders. Roti canai- amazing flavor. Smooth and creamy coconut milk with a hint of spice. This can be ordered without meat. Papaya salad - it was okay. More sweet than what I expected but still refreshing. Pad keep Mao with softshell crab - delicious. The sauce was savory which complimented the crispy shell very nicely. The noodles were cooked perfectly and had a very flavorful sauce. Pad Cashew - you can select your choice of protein with this entree. Very, very good flavors. Served with rice. Great combination. Anythony's special - a dessert for the books. It comes with purple(or black) sticky rice, taro ice cream, whipped cream, and fresh mango slices, drizzled with coconut milk. The warm sticky rice and it's texture was completely contradictory to the cold, smooth and creamy taro ice cream. To break up this marriage of hot and cold, the mangi played a brilliant refreshing role. Awesome dessert!

Yelp
Hadn't been here in a while, And it's pretty safe to say that our tastes in Thai food have grown along with the experience at House of Thai. Although the menu items are a bit pricey, the food is absolutely superb! The Thai chicken wings were very nicely prepared, and my only suggestion is that the term spicy be a little more so. But that's me. I really do like Thai spice. The Thai summer rolls were very nicely presented, usually as individual roles but in this case sliced into sushi style discs. This was much, much nicer. The fillings were fresh and tender, and I probably could have gone for a second helping. The Pad see ew was a perfect portion, and the noodle was not gummy or jellylike. Everything in this dish was perfect! The soft shell crab was tender and crisp and served with a very delicate ginger And basil. My pineapple fried rice with vegetarian duck was incredible! Keep in mind, that in most restaurants fried rice means a pile of rice glistening with cooking oil. In this case, the rice was steamed with a little stir fry at the last minute. Not greasy or oily! And the vegetarian duck would have passed muster with any meat eater, even though it was a form of tofu. The service was outstanding. Attentive without being intrusive. Always a great sign. We recommend this restaurant highly!

Kathy K.

Yelp
Good food, nice atmosphere, and wonderful service. Great BYOB! Try their Crab Rangoon, it's delicious!

Bryan M.

Yelp
We do take out a lot from house of Thai. I love the chicken with cashews and pineapple. I like it a little spicy and they do a great job of it.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent food and the service is spectacular! We tried this place on a friend's recommendation. We will absolutely be back!! Fyi: It's a BYOB.

Yelp
Unfortunately this is very bland, westernized Thai food that didn't satisfy my cravings. Spring rolls had a very thick outer crust and barely anything other than cabbage on the inside (where were the vermicelli noodles?). I asked for medium hot basil chicken but got it very mild and flavorless instead. To their credit, the chicken was tender and not dry and the vegetables seemed fresh. The drunken noodles were a gloppy mess and inedible. The noodles were simultaneously dry and stale (the noodles were crumbly and breaking down as if it say too long before being used or was frozen and lacked that chewy texture). So to symbolize how awful and clueless the palates of some NJ people are, I left the entire noodle dish out in my backyard for the raccoons who visit my yard nightly. That is to say that many NJ ppl are just clueless and that they have the palates of raccoons feeding on troughs of garbage using garbage lids as their dinner plates. Ppl, please try a dozen different Thai spots before giving out your stars so liberally and be honest because there are ppl like me who look at your reviews and think how ridiculous they are. Overall, I will not be returning to this restaurant.

Larry P.

Yelp
The Best. The ribs the chicken wings the duck the drunken noodles. The best recommending reservations always

Yelp
Went to the House of Thai for the first time in a while and I have to say it's better then its ever been We started out with a few appetizers, dumplings, spring rolls and ribs. All were delicious, but the ribs were really good I have to say my dinner was outstanding Crispy duck over drunken noodles I've never had better anywhere The service was fast and attentive, but they certainly weren't hurrying us at all I liked the place before, I love it now

Siray Y.

Yelp
By far the best Thai food in our area! Love the taste atmosphere and service! If I were you I would't miss out on this!
google avatar

Monica D.

Yelp
Picked up takeout while visiting my friend's house the other night and was very delighted. She always orders from there and said everything is great. I chose to go with Beef Pad Thai. Flavor was excellent, portion was enough for 2 meals and price was extremely reasonable. Would love to try again.
google avatar

Luis D.

Yelp
Food is good but when i got the bill the 18% tip was automatically added yo the final bill.. here's where it gets better.. when i have to sign the bill they put a line for the TIP.... What's up with that
google avatar

Kara F.

Yelp
A go-to date night spot for me and my husband. The food is always delicious and the portions are huge! We usually start off with the Thai sampler which has a little bit of everything. I love the curry dishes and the pineapple fried rice. My husbands favorite is the drunken noodles. The service is always excellent and fast! Best Thai food in the area hands down.

Michelle T.

Yelp
Found this gem travelling home to Connecticut. Delicious fresh food. We love thai and this did not disappoint.
google avatar

Anna P.

Yelp
I've only ever gotten the lunch special from here; otherwise it's a bit pricey. The food is good! It's a nice local spot for us. Will keep coming back.
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
Up scale Thai place that seems out of place in a strip mall. I was here for lunch on a weekend so not sure if they have a lunch special menu weekdays. They did not for the weekend. Service is also upscale and very attentive. I had the Panang curry with chicken. Comes with jasmine rice. There was an upsell to get brown rice or purple rice for an extra charge. The Panang was decent but not amazing. It was more on the soupy side and not much chicken. This is a convenient place so may stop in again and try a different dish.
google avatar

Yelp
Place is small and nice inside. food was good and atmosphere was good. would recommend this lace

Yelp
Pretty good food! We haven't been disappointed at all! We've only ordered takeout but every time we've found the meals to be delish! We've ordered the staples - a few curries, I usually get the spicy basil and always have enjoyed it! The menu items are a bit pricier than some Thai places, but it's always a great meal! Definitely recommend if you are looking to have some Thai food!
