Always get your money's worth here. American or Chinese. Such varieties there is something for everyone. The sesame chicken with fried rice gives me a second dinner the next day. Comes with a piece of pie. French silk is highly recommended.

8 of us had dinner. Most of our dinners were very good, however, the two who ordered from the American menu were very unhappy with their meals. Those of us who ordered from the Chinese menu loved our food. We used to go to the old Wong's & miss the lovely atmosphere & decor of that store. This place could use some decorations on the walls and some color to add to the ambience. The dark gray walls just don't do it. The waitress was lovely & very attentive.

Finally got to go to House of Wong today. There's a reason why they've been open for over 50 years! Their food is wonderful. Service was a tad slow for our liking but our server might have worked here since the beginning of the House of Wong inception. We were not in a hurry so not a big deal. The sweet and sour chicken was as advertised, impressive! The fried rice was above average and the egg rolls were on point. Turns out with an entree, you get a piece of pie and they had many to choose from. Wow to the banana cream. Sad it took me so long to visit and look forward to another visit. Thanks for a lovely Sunday dinner with friends.

Great food, large portions, great prices, great service! All around best place to eat in the twin cities. Asian food AND American food are all good. Something for everyone. Pies are excellent as well and I'm not normally a pie or dessert person. Always eat something different when I dine in and still get some chow mein to go when I leave. They've been open for years and Would love to see them busier so that the business thrives in today's economy and will stay open for many more years to come. Highly recommend

Google
I would say the best thing we had was the lo mein. I wanted to come here to try the banana cream pie, as it had great reviews. I feel like the food isn’t authentic Chinese food. The Mongolian beef didn’t have any beef and filled with lots of onions and carrots and very saucey. Fried rice the rice was broken. I asked for banana cream pie to go and was packed and given to me in pieces (shown in picture). I didn’t get to fully enjoy or savor the pie as it was given a mess. When we went to go pay up front, we were told that we couldn’t pay up front and needed the server to give out checks to us.

Google
What a fantastic restaurant find! There is truly a wide range of food varieties to suit any craving and each one is truly phenomenal! We have eaten at a tremendous amount of restaurants, always looking for something new and House of Wong is, definitely, right up there. The service could not be better and more accommodating. The menu items are wonderful (not to mention the fried chicken - YUM). The prices are so extremely reasonable, especially, in this day of price gouging out there - you cannot go wrong here!

Google
We wanted to revive an old tradition of coming here to eat. Since Covid we haven’t been here but maybe once. And some recent negative online reviews had me a little worried. But it was every bit as good as all three of us remembered, which is quite a relief. We’ll be happy to come back more often now, because we have always loved this place. The orange chicken, beef chow fun, and moo goo gai pan were all excellent, and the egg rolls were perfect!

I've gone here since I was a little girl! The food is always good and the staff is always kind. My favorite is the chicken pad Thai. I get it practically everytime and its some of the best I've had (not that I've had that much LOL). I always forget it comes with dessert so its a pleasant surprise each time.

Yelp
This place has been here forever, family has been going forever, it feels unchanged to me. I do need to write about something important today. On a recent visit, I was horrified to see styrofoam in use for take-out. No one has used styrofoam in a decade. It is made out of petroleum. It is (factually) poisonous. It takes forever to biodegrade. It is ancient history. Please change to paper take-out containers. There are a number of options these days. There is another kind made of corn starch that is almost like plastic in feel, but it is corn. Thank you very much.

Yelp
I have eaten here many times over the years, but it has been awhile. Their restaurant is in a new location within the same strip mall, and I'm told there are new owners. The new space seems smaller but, ironically, does not feel as cozy inside as the previous venue. Their menu is still extremely large with an incredible variety of food - Chinese, American, Italian - there's something for everyone. They still have very large portions so we had multiple to go boxes. It was not busy at all on a Sunday night for dinner and, while the food came out fairly fast, the overall service was only medium. Also, the booth was not clean. Overall, it seems as if the quality of the space and the food has gone downhill. I'm sad to say that if tonight was my first visit ever to this restaurant, I would not rush back.

Yelp
I love this place. Portion sizes are huge. Prices are very reasonable and the food is fantastic. I have never eaten in but ordering out is always quick and efficient and staff is very friendly.

Yelp
The staff looked like they were pulled out of the gutter to save this slop-house money. The food isn't just lack-luster, it's disgusting. Let's start with the fried rice, it's really just white rice with a bunch of soy sauce and cheap frozen peas (I asked for no peas but the person taking the order was confused at the request). I could not eat it, I'm extremely allergic to foods in the pea family. Let's talk about the shrimp toast. It's a myriad of slop with zero flavor, unless you need a lifetime fix of ginger, put the breaks on, you horrible. They may have well just thrown a couple pieces of bread in oil (maybe that's what they did?) Let's get to the fries. Almost every place I go, I order fries (and I've done so, in many countries), they're my obsession. The fries, again, were cheap frozen food "steak fries". They were not even cooked through. Suprisingly they were soggy with grease, yet thoroughly uncooked, is this a new hipster trend??

Yelp
The decline of Chinese dining isn't apparent here. For years - -I'm not kidding-- I've been looking for the type of Chinese food I grew up with. There are many reasons for its decline. That's another story. But now in Roseville the food brings me back to the old days when the superb food was dished out at the Nankin in a Minneapolis. My only problem was getting in the door. The front doors must have been designed by the engineers who built Fort Knox! They weigh a ton and there's no electric opener. Once inside, it was lovely. The tables are far enough apart to navigate over the firm carpet. Service was prompt as we were presented a very large menu selection of Chinese, American and Italian entrees. The specials alone are numerous. My impression is it's the type of place where nearly anyone can find a dish to enjoy. My wife is a vegan and she enjoyed Szechuan tofu stir fry. I chose the #1 combo: Chicken chow mein, egg foo yung, and an egg roll. The servings are huge. I took home half of my meals and enjoyed it even more the second time around the next day. As we were about to bag our left overs the server asked what kind of pie we wanted. It turns out our meals included a slice of pie not listed on the menu. I took a piece of banana cream and and apple. I doubt if many leave here hungry. It's fair to say all of the food was delicious. As I said earlier, it brought me back to when we had good Chinese food, not altered by the hybrids with other cuisines. But for the fans of American or Italian food; I'll have to review some of that later.

Angie R.

Yelp
A word of mouth recommendation. The grapevine didn't disappoint. Easy location and ample parking is a perk. The food was fantastic and the service was excellent. Scarlett was a gem.

Rick R.

Yelp
The food at the house along it's always very good . Great Chinese food . America's specials are very good they come with soup and salad , plenty of good food . Service is very good most of the time . Few of the younger servers still have some something to learn . Employees that have been there for a while are all excellent . Ambience is nice too

Yelp
What can be better than an updated Roseville landmark, comfort Chicken Chow Mein shared with your best friend, served about one minute after we ordered! We shared and still couldn't eat all of it! Seems like they've been in business a hundred years. A well-oiled machine! While you are eating, order takeout to go!

Elizabeth A.

Yelp
The food is hot, fresh, and incredibly delicious. The orange chicken tastes like orange and the sesame chicken has the perfect crispness! It tastes like a little cardamom is added to the egg rolls, which are more packed with meat and vegetables than I expected! The young man who took my order also took several others and had such an awesome and impeccably professional demeanor. I wish I could've tipped more. The quiet dining room with soft music and soft but not dim lighting gives you the most incredible experience. I personally don't like to eat out because of feeling self conscious with others watching, but the booths have incredible privacy. My partner and both our mothers are going to make this our go-to place from now on! Kudos to everyone behind this fantastic establishment!

Michele U.

Yelp
My mother-in-law has gone to this restaurant for many years. So she is happy when I pick up food from here. The quality is good as well as the taste. But do know the food is on the pricy side and not always ready when they say it will be.

Tiffany W.

Yelp
Didn't hate it and didn't love it. I had no idea what I was getting into (totally thought this was an Asian / Chinese fusion) but was shocked to see this is actually Old Country Buffet in a modern day setting. While no buffet, the cuisine and combination of take out or dine in hit the mark. House of Wong serves American, Asian and Italian cuisines - completely shocking. The prices are outstanding and almost every meal ends with a slice of pie (even if you order Asian). The service to dine in took far too long to get seated but luckily I was not in any hurry. This is a place to try if you're looking to be spontaneous and open to see where the wind blows you. Who knows, maybe next time I'll try the Italian cuisine!

David P.

Yelp
Amazing restaurant! This is my second time visiting, and this place never disappoints. Huge portions, attentive staff, and great prices. The decor is spartan and well done. Bring an appetite.

Yelp
Gave them a few more opportunities and they flat out failed. The last three times I ordered fried rice, it was overdone and burnt tasting. The manager "Stacy" said there was nothing wrong with it and took it back and put it back on the stir fry pan and burned it even more. Would not take it off the bill and would not substitute anything. The servers have always been very good, it's the food quality and management that sucks. After 25+ years, I won't be back.

Ann L.

Yelp
This is always my go to when I'm in the twin cities. They have the best egg rolls on the planet! They have moved down the strip mall a few doors but took their iconic doors with them. The newer space is a little more spacious and a little more updated. Service is always on point because they retain a loyal hard working staff. Family owned through generations, their food is second to none. Even their American entrees like their fried chicken and roast turkey are fantastic. It's always my last stop before I leave to take a few of their egg rolls home.

Debbie L.

Yelp
Whenever I'm in the Twin Cities we stop here for great a Chinese meal. Today was no different. We went at 3pm on a Thursday and we're promptly seated. I had the chicken chow fun and he had the lunch special of orange chicken with fried rice. Both had very generous servings. The chicken had a bit of a kick and was very good. The chow fun had so many vegetables & a good amount of chicken. I had forgotten the price of the meal includes dessert. We both had the coconut cream pie. I really like how the to-go part is separate from the dining room. A great place for Chinese food!

Sharon S.

Yelp
Poor service today at the front counter. Cashier was disgruntled with menu change and rudely stated cash for payment or percentage change for cards! Proceeded, to lay on counter tops taking orders and waiting for finished orders from kitchen window. Food, was not edible , threw two large orders away. Will, not return for future food orders. Karen

Marcus S.

Yelp
This place has a fast food style counter in the entrance with full menus posted on the wall much like McDonald's etc. and a sit down restaurant style seating in the back. Sort of like Leeann Chin but not nearly as good (plus with table service). I ordered a takeout order of Moo Goo Gai Pan and it was in a paper bag set sideways on the counter. The food was in styrofoam containers and I assumed it was it traditional Chinese food containers so it leaked all over the bag and my car seat when I set the bag vertically on the seat. The Moo Goo Gai Pan was pretty flavorless and had huge pieces of al dente celery and a lot of strong onion and not much chicken. Most of the gravy ended up in the bottom of the paper bag. The pork egg roll was rubbery, flavorless and not crisp at all. That was probably the worst part. I would not be in a hurry to go back.

Nhia L.

Yelp
Just great. Best Chinese food in the metro area. You have to try their chow mein - a family favorite.

Bullitt M.

Yelp
I've been eating here for over 40 years. This place has all: good Chinese food AND pie!

Christine N.

Yelp
Big burgers for kids. My son really liked them. The service was nice. We all liked our food a lot.

Tracy M.

Yelp
You get a LOT of food for the price, great food and good service, their fried rice is really good and my favorite is their chicken, the coating is the best!

Mo S.

Yelp
I have been going to House of Wong for over 40 years. It is one of my earliest restaurant memories. I have a great deal of fondness for this restaurant. My mother and grandmother went here before I was even born. We have family lunches here. The menu doesn't change, but it doesn't need to. It is a wide variety of vintage Chinese dishes, modern and healthy stir fry dishes, and American standards. It is all tasty with generous portions. The recipes taste like they always have and I'd be so upset if they changed them. Mostly I want to thank the staff and owners for providing such a long and consistently excellent dining experience. I love this place.

Judyth B.

Yelp
The closest I've found to the original one on Selby in St. Paul in the 50s!!! Yay. Even one of the servers w works there now worked at the one on Selby!!

Janis T.

Yelp
2/20/2023 Jan T My husband and I met my sister, and brother who lives in LA, for lunch. My brother and cannot find Chinese food anywhere only Vietnamese food. My sister and I had come to House of Wong for many years prior to their closing. I'm very disappointed that we recommended this place to my brother. He order General Tsao's chicken he ate a couple of bites and couldn't eat it. My sister, husband and I got a #1 plate, which was terrible. We will never eat here again.

David N.

Yelp
The food is good and they have a lot of options but don't ever try to make any changes. They are totally inflexible.

Susanne G.

Yelp
Always excellent food and service. We have been coming here for 40+years. Wide menu selections. Always left overs.

Wms S.

Yelp
The food lacked flavor/taste, I have never had any food that left any type of flavor no salt no pepper even the sweet sauce had no flavor. I ordered #3 dinner combo meal: sweet and sour pork, mushroom garlic, egg foo yong, chicken wings eggroll, fried rice. None of it had any flavor even after putting packets of soy sauce, sweet sauce it was horrible. The meat was dry and hard, dried up pork and chicken wings had no flavor how can you mess up chicken wings!!

Ashley H.

Yelp
I've been going to this place for decades. They have a massive menu (not all asian) and you can feed two people with meals to take home from one item. I normally order the orange chicken with white rice and I end up with a full dinner serving for 6 meals for 12 dollars. Sure the quality is a little less than an expensive and gourmet place but the house of Wong is fast, efficient and reliable. My food always comes out in 5 minutes and where else can you get dinner for two dollars a serving and feel stuffed? I love their eggrolls and their pies are made fresh daily. There is a reason all the locals have been coming here for 60 plus years it's cheap and reliable. My family always gets the hot, turkey sandwich with stuffing and mashed potatoes. They have it on their weekly special and it's always a hit with them.

Alysha W.

Yelp
We have only got house of Wong once since the pandemic as we weren't sure how it would go but we decided to try it out. I called in the order which was super easy. When I got there everyone had on masks properly and were kind when I was paying for my order. We got sesame chicken, bbq pork chow mein, wontons, dumplings, and hot and sour soup. The wontons were the same but everything else didn't taste as good as it used to, especially the sesame chicken. I honestly used to go here every week before the pandemic and get It so I know how it usually tastes and it was not the same. It was fine but it was not the same. My aunt has also got food from here and also said it was different, so I'm not sure if they have new cooks or recipes or owners but somethings were different. Overall the ordering and getting food was easy but I don't have to rush back.

Lori G.

Yelp
I had the worst service ever at this place. I got home and the chicken I ordered was burnt. I called the next day to talk to management and she was rude. No compensation or apology. I've been a customer for years and this was so bad I'll never go back and won't recommend. Yuck.

Rainbow C.

Yelp
I so want to do 5 stars again but went to lunch few weeks ago and the service was really poor. Very long wait time. Once we ordered though food came pretty fast and AS ALWAYS was perfect. They need another server it seems at lunch at least. I understand they don't want to overcompensate but I think people just got paid the day we went it was packed. I was at lunch during work hours so irritated me even more.

Paula E.

Yelp
I was very disappointed in my order. I ordered a #3 and the pork and chicken wings were so dried out I couldn't eat them. The eggroll was not good either. The chow Mein was eatable but nothing to write home about. I use to eat here all the time with my parents and it was always good.

Melody L.

Yelp
Talk about earth insensitive. This restaurant uses Styrofoam for takeout, and charges its dine in customers when they ask for carton take out containers instead of Styrofoam. when I asked for the charge to be removed because we did not want to use Styrofoam, I was informed that dine in customers had to pay for takeout containers if they did not use Styrofoam. What an insult to both the customer and to the earth. We will not be going back there again. #boycottwongs

Shyann M.

Yelp
This is my family's " Chinese food" place my family have been eating here for over 20 years have never had a problem and Love every dish we eat from here .

Elena S.

Yelp
Food was very delicious! Recommend the Chicken Chow Mein. Did a carry out order and didn't have to wait at all! Love this place! Everyone working was very friendly when I picked up my food!

Roxane N.

Yelp
Best chow main. Chicken subgum. Love love the deep fried chicken livers.

Keith H.

Yelp
HoW used to be a great place. Great food and lots of it. That was when the original owners (Teddy & Laura Wong) played an active role in the business. They both passed in 2020. The new owners could care less about the heritage and quality standards the Wong's introduced to Roseville so many years ago (est. 1958). I'm afraid this once wildly successful Roseville icon is seeing its last days. Last time I was there one of the brats at the order desk actually started an argument with me over some small thing (I forget what exactly). Regrettably, I have kissed The House of Wong goodbye after 55 years of patronage. Many bad reviews posted on YELP and their overall rating has fallen to three stars. C'est la vie.

Kathy W.

Yelp
This was an awful experience. First the server took our order 4 times and still got it wrong. Their were only 2 of us at the table. Then a very irate customer came in accusing the cashier of cheating him on his change. He was yelling and stomping around. This went on for several minutes. Customers were afraid and yelling for them to call the police. Finally I and a couple others called 911 to report what was going on. The man finally left. Roseville PD never came. I am assuming the House Wong manager called and canceled them. Then the manager came around apologizing and when we asked why they didn't notify police he said oh the guy was having a bad night. He was threatening people, really. Won't go back!

Megan R.

Yelp
We go here a lot. It has everything you want ...AND PIE!!! I love their Chow Fun! And sesame tofu is awesome. Eat in is better than take away however...the atmosphere makes the meal!

Bobbie A.

Yelp
I was so disappointed. We go here regularly and have never had such a horrible time. My husband ordered his usual smothered chicken, which he loves. When it came out, it was so overbaked he had to saw through the cheese. We told the server, who immediately apologized and took it away. Then the (I assume) manager came back with it (old Asian lady with gray hair, she knows who she is) and told my husband there was nothing wrong with it and he should eat it. We told her it wasn't good, and she told him if he didn't like it, he shouldn't have ordered it! We were not being bitchy, but she sure was! I hate to say this, as it used to be a favorite place, but we will NEVER go back.

Pete K.

Yelp
Moved into Como neighborhood and heard good things about House of Wong and have tried it three times now. Not again. First time was ok but bad choice picking the Chicken Curry. Almost zero curry flavor. Second time the rice was gluggy and stuck together. A reputable Chinese restaurant around since the 1950's should be able to get rice right. And the dish was average at best. The third time (tonite) the Garlic chicken was all vegetables and we had to really search for any chicken. When you open a box of chinese it shouldn't be a treasure hunt for pieces of chicken. The veges were excellent but where is the chicken? They should rename it "Chicken in a haystack." Three strikes and you're out House of Wong. It's close, and clean and modern but too bad about the food. Gave it two stars not one only because the veges were great.

Jose G.

Yelp
Basic bland food. Tastes okay due to the massive amounts of salt and MSG. One of the owners family, the lady with the gray hair, was very rude to people and that ruined the dinner. There are other, better places to get chow mien.

Lashawn L.

Yelp
I walk in and place an order for shrimp, fried rice, and a half order of chicken egg for young. I was so very disappointed when I got home. Their sign in the restaurant says the shrimp is fresh. I could not find the shrimp in the rice, and those that were in there obviously were out of a can. OK if I can deal with that there were tons of mushrooms in the rice and the egg foo yong. I have a child allergic to mushrooms. Thank God I did not feed him that. The ingredients did not include mushrooms. The flavor was not good. On either dish.

D R.

Yelp
This is one of those places people love to hate. I say let the haters hate, because they've outlasted most restaurants in the area! Sure, their menu is kinda massive... Sure, they provide that old-world, Americanized chinese... Sure, they have old food like pot roast, meatloaf and custard... But guess what? 1) They provide a family solid meal options with complimentary dessert. 2) Everything is cooked fresh for the order. 3) It is a bit basic, but sometimes you just want that. Lastly, the regulars are still coming! My grandmother came here and I do too (though not nearly as often) You will often come in and see people who already know what they want, what it was like at the previous location, and why it is more or less the same. Let the haters hate... they're probably eating $50 pine nuts to alleviate their internal trauma!

Xia Y.

Yelp
One of my favorite for Chinese dining. The price is great for the portion of food received.

Gregory N.

Yelp
Every time I order take out from this place it's a hot mess. This last time I was on hold for 8 minutes, so I called back a couple times only to get very rudely chewed out for doing that! I realize places are understaffed, but you can't have people on hold that long, ever. You're better off not answering the phone.

Brian L.

Yelp
Surprised I haven't reviewed this place yet. House of Wong opened 4 years before I was born, and it's always been a fixture in my family. An American-Chinese restaurant, but one of the higher quality ones in the metro. I recently started a new contract, and there are a few chinese restaurants nearby that I've tried, none of which can hold a candle to House of Wong. So many good things on the menu, but I'll admit my favorites are the bog-standard chicken chow mein and the House Fried Rice. So many places serve a version of chicken chow mein, but it's often just a soupy mess. HoW gives you nice big chunks of celery and chicken. I'm pretty sure there's MSG involved, but I'm not one who thinks MSG is bad for you. It makes things taste good. And HoW has accomplished something many restaurants strive for: their food tastes the same as it did 50 years ago. This is a GOOD thing. I never have to worry if they've changed up their recipes or removed anything from the menu. What they do works, and no sense in fixing something that's not broken! The House Rice is, like the chow mein, not a fantastic taste revolution. It's not fancy. It's very tender fried rice with chicken, pork, mini-shrimps, egg, onions and peas. It's really comfort food, and if you get an order to go, you can have 3 or 4 good lunches out of it. Possibly due to the era that it appeared in, House of Wong has an American fare section of their menu. Yes, mashed potatoes in an Asian restaurant. One ding for me is their egg rolls - I prefer the more tightly-wrapped Thai-style egg rolls, but theirs are big, honking rolls. They taste fine, but you could almost make a meal out of one of them. Other notables are their fried chicken wings, and fried, breaded shrimp. They prepare the latter in a way I haven't seen elsewhere - it seems like they butterfly jumbo shrimp and then smash them flat before breading and frying them. The end result is a sort of shrimp schnitzel, and surprisingly good. Also, too, they have a very respectable hot mustard. Not that wimpy stuff that comes in packets, but serious heat. As in, if you come in with a cold, after you have some of that your sinuses will be clean as a whistle. I usually get take-out, but their eat-in service is wonderful. Very experienced and gracious servers. Love House of Wong. Close to my house, triggers childhood memories, makes solid comfort food.

Yelp
I went here with my other half this past Tuesday evening. I haven't been here since long before they moved. The front wood carved doors were there. Restaurant entryway and counter are laid out as I remember. That's where the similarities end. We were seated right away, service in that regard has been good from way back then to today. The restaurant was sparsely populated, this place used to be pretty full no matter what night of the week we used to come. Even when it was takeout the place had a solid business. The menu seems about the same as I remember. The standard Chinese and American standards. Ordered appetizer of Pot Stickers. Hot and tasty. Curious thing is was that one of our plates, and I know for some people it's no big deal but it was a coffee saucer and regular little plate. Hmmm. Plates don't match. Not a deal breaker. Ordered our main course and came to the table hot, covered with that silver dome to keep things warm. The rice came and also covered, and again a coffee saucer for a plate. I'm beginning to wonder if the rest of the dishes didn't survive the move up the block? Overall the quality of the food was "meh" it's what I remembered from long ago. Nothing that jumped out and nothing too bland. I had the Schezyan (sp?) stir fry and the other half had Curry chicken. Growing up this used to be the place to go to especially as a kid. Seeing the authentic roof decoration that used to adorn the outside, was sad to see that element disappear back in the 80's-90's. I just feel it's become a tired establishment. Will I go here again? Maybe. It just doesn't seem to excite me like it used to. It just blends in with other restaurants. Sometimes the good old days are all that we remember. Maybe I've just grown older. Don't know. Glad I have the past memories to remember.
