I had an IG reel run up some numbers last week, and all of a sudden I got a DM to come to a comedy show here at Housewatch. I think the video did numbers mostly due to hate watches because I said "I finally found a good Mexican Food spot in NYC..." I really should have specified "Manhattan" as opposed to "NYC," but hindsight is always 20/20.
Looking to squeeze every second out of my 15 seconds of fame, I happily accepted.
I brought my big homie with me, and we were greeted at the front and walked through a super clean sports bar like interior being ushered down stairs into a small intimate space.
I was shocked at how small this space was for a comedy show. It consisted of MAYBE 20 folding chairs facing a small stage, and a bar at the back. I got nervous for the comics. Idk why but in my head I'd rather be on stage in front of 100 people than 15-20.
My big homie and I grabbed seats in the 3rd row, because any comedy show veteran knows the first 2 rows are way too exposed.
I've never been to a comedy show with so many peaks and valleys. I think it was one of those shows where comics are testing new material. Some comics were absolutely KILLING, and others some straight up BOMBED.
One girl bombed so bad that me and the big homie were in literal tears. It was like when you and your homie are in 4th grade laughing in the middle of class when you're not supposed to laugh, but that makes you laugh even harder and it gets to the point where you can't even look at each other or you'll start cracking up.
Looking back, I don't know if she was playing a character or not, but I legit can't remember the last time I laughed that hard so I think she actually ate that up.
At the end of the day though, I respect everyone immensely that steps on that stage. I could never do that. You gotta be FEARLESS. Man in the Arena.
Overall, Housewatch is an amazing venue for an intimate comedy show. Shoutout to my boy Corey Y for the tickets and for having a great set. YOUDA MAN COREY!
