Howard Johnson by Wyndham Yuma

Everything just worked. HoJos still has the goods. My room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. Climate control worked well and quietly. I got a great nights sleep. The reception desk is open 24 hours, which is nice. There were some baked goods, and a small section of convenience items for sale. The lobby had a great mid-century decor. The best surprise was the complementary breakfast featuring eggs made to order. That is really a step above most hotels offerings. Price was good. Parking lot seemed secure. The pool looked inviting, though as it was February, I wasn’t really interested. It’s probably really appealing in warmer months. The location is convenient to a lot of food choices as well as a few bars and other retail areas.

So overall for the prices it’s not horrible. The location is decent with quick access to things like the grocery store and fast food. The rooms don’t have coffee makers and the lobbies regular coffee maker wasn’t working so there was no coffee for at least 4 days of my stay. It’s missing a few amenities inside the rooms. The rooms were clean and a decent size. I would have given this location 3.5 stars if they had coffee in either the front lobby or in the rooms.

The staff was pleasant, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable. The lobby/lounge is large and accommodating with several seating areas. At the front desk popcorn was served as I checked in. I enjoyed a pleasant, balmy evening at poolside. Others were barbecuing. After pleasant night sleep, I was happy to wake, knowing there would be coffee and breakfast. It was all great. |The bottom line: well, for the price, I didn't expect such a wonderful experience. Good to know overnight accommodation can still be affordable.

Great location and good value for money. The hotel offers a gym, and complimentary popcorn is available every evening. A simple breakfast with eggs is served in the morning. The rooms are somewhat dated, with cracked walls and sinks 😅. Each room has plenty of mirrors.

Honestly this motel is great. The rooms are huge with a fridge and microwave. The bed is comfortable with many pillows. The ac works, and it doesn't have that weird mildewy smell, it smells nice, but not in the way that they're trying to cover something up with excessive cleaning supplies. Also a great value and good location. Will definitely be back if I'm in the area again.

The room was great! The bed was very comfortable. The water pressure in the shower was excellent. Breakfast was goo, eggs cooked to your liking. The location is near multiple eateries within walking distance. About 4 or 5 miles from the highway, but well worth the distance. All employees were kind and helpful. Will definitely stay there again when in town.

Great location and front desk person was helpful. Rooms are okay. Stayed here before, this time the room was a little better. Typically Rooms are a little old/outdated. Bed on a front top part of the hotel seemed to have a "hole" in the middle when you played down. Pillows were not the best. Definitely not for a long stay based on the 2 different rooms I've stayed in.

Traveling from Michigan for a wedding Nd chose this hotel cause it was close . Booked two rooms for our party of 5 . Within the first 20 mins of unpacking from a long day travel . Found a cocroach in the bathrrom sink . Immediately packed up the car to leave and was told at front desk we would get a full refund but the manager would have to do it. the following morning . Well they tried to only refund 20 percent of our stay which was 2 rooms for 2 nights and literally was there less then an hour total after finding roaches in 1 of our rooms . And on top of that trying to charge of 78 for cancelation fees . Im sorry but that is so unsanitary im sure there wasn't just one roach there . Please avoid this place and run dont walk away from here . Horrible management roach infestation hotel ....EDIT I WILL BELIEVE THE RESPONSE WHEN I GET A REFUND ON 100 PERCENT OF BOTH ROOMs AND NOT CHARGED A CANCELATION FEE . HAVE BEEN GETTING NOTHING BUT THE RUNAROUND WHEN TRYING TO SPEAK TO ANYONE THAT CAN MAKE IT RIGHT . THE OWNERS NAME IS A GUY NAMED ANDREW AND HE COMPLETELY DOES EVERYTHING TO AVOID US . A SIMPLE REFUND WOULD HAVE BEEN FINE I REALLY DIDNT WANNA WRITE THIS BAD REVIEW

So if the pool was heated and the gal at the front had an idea of the area it would be a 5 star. I really wanted to swim since I was there a week but the pool was freezing I think that a front desk person should know local transportation and maybe 2 or 3 places near their hotel for food. They hotel was getting a total makeover and my room had been all updated and my bed was super cozy. The grounds are being updated as I was there. Hotel is close to a grocery store, Starbucks, restaurants all within walking distance as well as others. FYI if you are going into Mexico for dental you can Uber to the border parking lot for 25.00 each way.

Don't stay here if you're a light sleeper!! I arrived at 3 pm after making a reservation slightly earlier on the phone. Brenda on the front desk was nice and I asked her for a quiet room. She gave me one on the back side. However, this room was right alongside a busy street. I went back to her and asked to be changed to a quieter room and she said they didn't have any even tho' it was still early in the afternoon. Yikes! It sounded like a race track, going from zero to sixty in 10 seconds all night long! Terrible. Otherwise okay. It's an older hotel, but the room was clean and adequate. Pet fee was only $10 per night.

Wow... how to properly describe a stay at the Hojo.... If you're looking to beat the heat in an affordable and comfortable hotel then look no further. The pool is sweet, the rooms have AC, there's a free continental breakfast, cable on TV, clean showers, and laundry. What a dream! Danielle at the front desk is terribly sweet and quite helpful. Trust and believe I'll be back!

While this hotel is dated, it's clean and very affordable. But, most importantly, they go out of their way to make sure me and the members of my hunt club, the So Cal Super Gay Hunt Club (SCSGHC), are comfortable when we're there every year for dove hunting season. Plus, they are accepting of our lifestyle and keen fashion sense. It's fabulous!

Wyndham needs to spend some money and patch up the exterior of this dilapidated relic from the past. Better yet, scrape it and start over! This could be a really great place if it were renovated and extensively repaired. The rooms are clean and tidy but the exterior if simply falling apart. It is hard not to think "Mexican border town" when staying there especially when you see disrepair throughout the entire exterior with unfinished work, poorly executed patch jobs and an obvious lack of pride in appearance. Too bad because the extremely limited staff members were all friendly and very accommodating. The reception area is fine but the grounds and outside are nearly ghetto-like! The real topper is that the hotel, which was probably once set in a peaceful, park-like setting is now surrounded by horrifically noisy traffic with squealing tires, motor cycles and what sounds like an ongoing NASCAR stock car race with souped up cars and pickup trucks racing every which way. Ok if you are really tired and need to economize and you can get by the beat up facilities and noise. Sorry to say all this but this place really needs to be scraped and replaced with something that Windham can be proud of.

Almost four years later and what I initially described as an okay place in a slow motion remodel took a dive. This updated review is for the first weekend of September, 2022. The grounds appeared unkempt, with the pool (which we actually enjoyed previously) being a nasty, cloudy, green cesspool. No freaking way we were stepping foot in that backwoods looking pond, even though it was 110+ degrees! A couple of weekend neighbors told us how they actually immersed themselves in that petri dish, because they were admittedly intoxicated. One of them bumped up against the in-water pool light (you couldn't see it due to the cloudiness) and discovered it was completely separated from the wall and hanging within the water by its ELECTRICAL cord! WTF?! The first night we suffered, as the A/C would not dip below 85 degrees. That is not what we paid for, being pretty much as hot indoors as it was outdoors overnight. They did move us the next day into a room with a functioning A/C that kicked ass though. The room was okay, although I've experienced better (much better); but the price was affordable compared to other places in Yuma that weekend. The continental breakfast area, which was pretty decent four years ago, was a shell of its former self! Two of the serving counters had absolutely NOTHING on them. One counter had a few prepackaged pastries, two old looking oranges and a cereal (looked like 3 types to choose from) dispenser with a carafe with milk (?) and I was not about to sample any of these meager offerings. The only redeeming attribute of this motel that fateful weekend was the staff we interacted with. Bot ladies were nice and helpful (such as getting our room swapped out). Would I stay here again in the future? Probably not, unless it was an emergency and I got stuck in Yuma on our way through and there was absolutely nothing else available (which I doubt would be the case).

Wyndham, take back your name because this property does not represent you well! This property is apparently in the process of renovations. First of all our room was on the backside of the property on a busy street. When we asked about relocating we were told no - sorry. So we had road noise all night. Our room had been upgraded to a degree. New wood-look tile floors, some bathroom work. Old tub with no stopper. Old tired drapes. There was a microwave and refrigerator. Comfortable bed, but terrible pillows. Too big and hard. The remote on the TV was difficult to maneuver. We traveled with another person and her room was not renovated. Tired dirty carpet. The internet was non existent - we had to go to the front desk and complain because the phone in our room did not work. The only response we got was "I'll notify IT". The breakfast (and that is being generous) was a joke. Half a dozen tired (how many days old) oranges, 3 choices of dry cereal, a selection of only prepackaged chocolate muffins, packaged oatmeal. No bread or bagels for toast. We went somewhere else the second day. I guess it's okay for a night if you cannot afford a reservation anywhere else, but don't expect much because you'll get just that...not much!

Really wish I had checked Yelp before booking...The reviewers are 100% right. This place is absolutely filthy. The floors are actually sticky and the sheets are stained. They also demand a $100 deposit that will be returned within 5-10 days, which is absolutely ridiculous, especially for the quality. You also have to pay $10 per pet for a room that is even lower quality. Traffic noise is also a considerable irritant. Do NOT book here.

My family and I were wanting to travel to Los Algodones to explore their medical and dental centers and searched for a place nearby but on the US side. We were searching for something budget friendly yet not "cheap" feeling. We also were hoping to check in earlier than most places (3-4pm) so I called the morning of our arrival to see if we could get early check in or at least be able to drop off anything perishable (baby formula, food etc) and were told that they would do their best to get the housekeepers to that room specifically for us and try and have it ready asap. When we arrived we were able to see the pool area, large GREEN grass area for the pets, even the stand with poop bags and trash for those that didn't come prepared. There was also a smoking section with cement tables and benches and I didn't get the feeling that they shunned smokers and tried to hide them behind a wall in some dirty courtyard. They seem like they truly want to accommodate any and everyone equally which I think is just awesome. I don't think I saw a single piece of trash anywhere on the grounds and although we didn't use the pool, it looked clean and inviting and we regretted not bringing our suites lol. I feel awful for not remembering her name and cannot find where I wrote it down but when we arrived a whole hour and a half early, she had our room ready (at no extra charge) Check in was quick and she answered all my questions about crossing the border, times, etc with a smile the whole time. I immediately felt very comfortable and now fully informed on things I wasn't able to find online about walking vs driving across the border. And it was great hearing how her personal experiences went. She eased our stress in numerous ways. Now, this isn't an expensive hotel where you'll find goose feathered down comforters but for the price I thought it offered quite a few amenities that usually only more upscale hotels have like the gym etc. The free breakfast was enjoyable and my son loved seeing us turn the wheel for his fruity pebbles to fall into the bowl and they had granola bars and things like that that you could grab on the go. The beds were extremely comfortable and every one of us slept through the night without hearing a sound from the outside (or through walls) and being a pet friendly hotel I thought that was a pleasant surprise. Every single staff member we spoke to was approachable, friendly and upbeat. I never once felt like I was annoying them with my questions. So if you are looking for an affordable yet enjoyable and stocked hotel in Yuma, this would be the one. If we had been staying for more than 20 hours we wouldn't have hesitated to use the pool or gym and felt our kids would have loved (and been clean/safe) to play in the pool. My oldest did love running around the large dog area and I didn't see a single "mess" for him to step in while doing so. Helped him burn some cooped up energy from the drive. Thanks Howard Johnson! See you again on our next trip down!

My family and I checked into this place after driving across the country. I always check the beds, as soon as I get to ANY hotel. Our sheets were stained/dirty and when I had asked for the house keepers to come fix them, I got a massive attitude! Talking trash in Spanish ( I can speak it) so disrespectful, I'm guessing they are ok with their families sleeping in dirty sheets? The manager kept having excuses for their poor behavior. Will not be coming back.

I stayed 2 nights out of 4 nights I reserved. There was no charge. The hotel employees are the best, friendly & helpful staff that I've ever encountered in any hotel, even better than high hotels. It was very clean, and neat. It was a little old. HoJo's coorporation should renovate it to match their employees over and above, great service.

This hotel refuses to allow hotels.com to issue a refund though the reservation wasn't used and other rooms were purchased. Ridiculous customer service. Will not use again for any future work projects in the area.

I have travelled all over all over this planet and I have always called a Hotel and asked ahead of time about the particulars. Before staying here I did just that and inquired about the Breakfast, I asked about what exactly was offered! I was and I quote told that it has meats and cheeses and pastry's! We show up and go to the breakfast and No meats, no pastries, no cheeses just a waffle machine and some boiled eggs and some cereal's! I would and will stay elsewhere next time, very disappointed. In addition their are Hookers outside and Drug users, I smelled the pot next door. I wish there was a zero star! The staff was great though! Its not their fault that this place is this cheap on their Breakfast!

Loved the room. Everything was nice and the place is super affordable. Only issue I had was the water turned off while I was in the middle of a shower. But it turned back on a few minutes later. I guess they were doing maintenance and it wasn't a common occurrence.

I don't know how anyone only gives 2 star reviews... The front seat Manager is always so friendly and helpful!! That alone is worth 5 stars!!!!

I was lied to abd told my deposit would be refunded in 5 days. It's day 12 they keep saying they'll take care of it. So unprofessional.

Dead cockroach in my room upon arrival. My room seems to be cleaned minimally which makes me question everything. There is build up of grime and dust in visible areas. There is no elevator and the parking was a challenge. The ice machine is outside and is not sanitary. I found multiple flies frozen in my ice cubes which about made me throw up.

I don't think I can really express how bad our room was so I have pictures... this room was in horrible condition, old, greasy carpet, the sofa! But on the upside the building in mid demolition next to the stairs has an exposed men's room. I've seen gross but this is a new level. Stay anywhere else.

my experience here has felt like a 4 star hotel. for one specific reason. the front desk women, who I'm sure holds many hats, was extremely hospitable and extremely kind. every request I had was met, and my stay was impeccable because of her service and effort, I recommend the establishment due on her behalf.

Less than we hoped for, even for a budget hotel. Old, stained tub and sink. The shower curtain was torn severely in 4 places at the top. Wash cloth rough enough to be a loofah. There's a desk, but no available electric plug. The grounds are strewn with trash. There's screens on the windows partially off. The ac was quiet enough, and the shower was hot, the bed acceptably comfortable. They need a total re-do with a color scheme that is not orange and purple in the same room, or a least less of it.

I have NEVER been treated so poorly as a customer in my ENTIRE life! Cenia at the front desk gave us a Handicap room for my 88 year old mother which is what I requested when I made the reservation. Upon opening the door to Room 104, I was met with 2 beds with all of the sheets and covers thrown in the floor. The room obviously had not been cleaned. There was urine bin the toilet and all of the towels in the bathroom were in the floor. I told her we needed another room. She said there were no other handicap rooms available so I asked for a refund and she REFUSED! Wait, what?! Yes, she said "I am accommodating you by giving you a room with a King Size bed so I will not be able to refund your money." My mother is disabled and needs a bathroom/shower that is handicap equipped. And besides that, there are 2 adults and you are "accommodating" us by giving us a room with 1 bed? And she had the nerve to laugh at me when I told her I wanted a refund. Not only am I calling the owner Andrew in the morning, you can bed the Better Business Bureau will be getting a call as well. Sorely disappointed in a hotel chain that used to be on par with best.

I was skeptical upon arriving as the outside looked run down and under construction but used the restroom in the lobby and it was spotless so I decided to stay. My room was clean, quiet, great parking. Decent continental breakfast & evening popcorn. Staff was fine with the exception of Jasmine. Jasmine was outstanding, hardworking, friendly and helpful. I stayed 4 nights and had to keep going back to the lobby because my key would get deactivated. The lobby was at its best when Jasmine was there, everything and everyone was taken care of. It did shock me that each time I asked for a key no one asked for ID, they just said what room and handed me back the key card. Security isn't top of mind there. I'd recommend, it's great for an inexpensive hotel to sleep in.

We've stayed here twice and the first time we never noticed anything wrong with the room but this time we found 5 cockroaches within 12 hours. Not even a whole day and we found that many...

This was a terrible experience. My mom and I planned a stay here for a wedding over the weekend because they have a pet friendly hotel. Hugely outdated, poor service, and the breakfast is pretty dismal. Honestly, the only thing worse than hotel is the clientele. (I realize how terrible that sounds.) But seriously, unruly kids handling the already-unappealing , cold, boiled eggs . Adults wearing hooded, animal costume/ fuzzy pajamas to breakfast. The coffee and juice are decent . Our room had water that got warm but not hot and we had to request hand towels and wash cloths . We ended up leaving for a different hotel

---A Burning in Room 230-- So, i understand businesses are doing their very best during covid and im super thankful but something just arent okay and in our stay, we experience some... We had a family emergency and went to yuma. Being honest, we've stayed at this location before and have had luck and gotten a nice room but there are times we've gotten some bad rooms as well. We knew it was a gamble booking here but because of some gun show or something like that, the room prices at hotels were all really high or places were sold out. So we went with this location. We checked in around 1130pm. We got to the room the window was facing toward where the sunset, the temp in yuma that day was still well over 95 and the air conditioner was not on at all so the room was HOT. We turned on the ac on high and it honestly felt like it barely worked even on high it blew out a very limited amount of coolish air. The room stayed warm almost all night we didnt want to call the front desk because we were super tired but around 2am, we started to smell like hair burning and it filled the whole room. My husband and i both woke up, we looked outside and couldn't figure out where the smell came from. We waited a bit and it faded. While we waited, we noticed there was no smoke detector in the room but you could see where it should have been. Our room finally cooled down around 5am. The front desk girl upon check in wasnt very friendly, snapped at me when i was looking at the back of my cc to swipe it and when we let the front desk know about the room on our way out, they were just like, "thanks for the info! Have a great day". I definitely wish it was a better experience. They have such a great location.

Booked my room on Expedia said it was three and half stars! NOT! I asked for a bottom floor room because both of my parents are handicapped and have to use a cane. I was told there are no pool side rooms available, sorry. I didn't ask for pool side just first floor! I'm here looking at atleast 7 rooms dark with curtains open!! To top it off the room is filthy! Food all over the desk chair and sticky!! Will never book a room here again and may not use Expedia again!

Worst internet for a hotel I've ever stayed at. They have 2 different Wi-Fi networks, and they're all equally terrible. If it's not going out in 3 minutes, than it's a miracle.

The rooms are very run down, not very clean, carpet is thin and gross. Pool area is decent. Price is cheap but I'd recommend going about 10 more minutes out and stay at the Cocopah casino.

Bedbug warning. Room 112. Don't stay here. I arrived after dark. Right away I cleaned the toilet with sanitary wipes. It just seemed dirty. I went to bed. In the morning I saw that the floor and the bathtub was black. I cleaned as best I could with my little supply of wipes. I showered and left for the day. Came back after dark again. I woke in the morning to something crawling on my face. It jumped to my pillow. I snapped a photo of it. A BEDBUG!!! I then jumped out of bed and examined the room further. The lampshade had something dripping from it. And the outside of the tub had black filth on it. The carpet was thick with filth.

This may be one of the worst hotels ever, the room I had anyway is bad need of remodeling, updating l. The carpet looks like it's the from the original Howard Johnson's. There was daylight coming in at the bottom of the entry door, slow running draining in the bath tub, the smoke detector kept beeping, ( I just finally disconnected it),old bedding, old drapery, there were flies the room .. I suggest spending another 30-40 bucks And get a decent room ... I was stuck here because of a plane malfunction and this is the only hotel the airline Offered in the area.....

Stayed for less then a night, room was disgusting and beds were infested with bed bugs. Told the front desk lady and she did not seem concerned or shocked or even surprised. Did not say sorry or apologize. All she told me was the rest of the rooms were booked so she couldn't transfer me to a different room. Like I wanted to stay there anyway. At least she refunded me quickly and I was able to leave. Avoid at all costs.

I can't complain is the 2nd time I stay here. It feels like is an old hotel but yes it needs some updates new furniture to put in your clothes but for what the price of it for 3 days is not a bad one. Yes I know is not fancy but if your just going to sleep and then get ready and take off is a good hotel to stay. As well all the rooms are smoke free and if you want to smoke they have a little smoke area which is amazing hate staying in hotels that smell like smoke. The only thing was that I did booked it in advance and my checkin time was at 3 I got their around 4 and the room wasn't ready even though I was tired and I wanted to just go check in I just left to get something to eat and they called me later on that is was finished. (But I don't blame them they were short staff and I understood that.) If your looking for a not to expensive hotel per night and if your just going to sleep and then leave in the mornings and won't be back until night, this is a place to get 100%.

This place had no hot water and refused to give a break on the room price. Attendants claiming they need manager approval and still did not have an answer the next morning. The room was shoddy, and needs a deep cleaning. This place was an absolute nightmare.

Room was filthy. I pulled back the covers, to find, food- mascara- and pencil marks. They changed my bed. A small little bug was crawling up after her changing the bed. I smashed it, and took a photo. I told her I believed it was a bed bug. She said, they'd have to shut down the entire wing. She took photos as well. As the mattress had just been messed with. They moved me. By the dumpster. And by workers, in the back. The next morning, a man come out of the room I killed the bug on the bed in. I told her, I'd like my money back, I wasn't going to stay. She told me basically "too bad". I could pee faster than the cold shower ran. I heard several people complain about that. One gentleman said "the water was so cold, I was going to boil some in the microwave, but the microwave is filthy". She didn't care. I noticed many people left without a morning shower. Hair not done, or wet. I did my laundry. It ruined 7 pieces of clothing. I told them, again, no one cared. The air conditioner, set off the fire alarm, when i turned on the heat. The garbage rieked so bad, you wanted to vomit, the minute you opened the door. The maids are knocking at your door, by 830-9 a.m. Screaming "housekeeping" It's an old, dingy smelling, dirty, non caring hotel. I'll never stay at another Howard Johnson. I'm not a complainer, but... this stay was the ultimate worst.

I've stayed here a few time and things have been alright. Wifi never works well, but whatever. But what happened today takes the freaking cake. I checked on a Friday to stay until Monday. Room is clean. Had a decent night sleep last night. Hanging out in our room on a lovely Saturday. My 9 month old is napping. Someone knocks. I get up to go see what up and before I can even get to the door A MAN OPENED THE DOOR!! He never identified himself. I asked him who he is. Still never gave me a name or anything. (I somewhat recognized him from my check in the day prior) and he proceeds to ask me if I'm staying. "Uh yes my reservation is until Monday" "Not according to our system" Called the front desk (from my personal phone because the room phone does not work. None of them ever have when I stay here) the girl I talked to sounded a bit bored and annoyed with my phone call. I will never stay here again. EVER.

The people are nice There was no hot water not even warm Lobby is stunning Breakfast was awesome The pool area and pool was nice and clean Beds are a tad bit firm Fridge is super tiny No area to put your toiletries only Wifi sucks ! First it works then it doesn't smh But the tv had many channels to choose from ( vh1, MTV, tbs, fox, bet, bravo, food channel, I could go on forever) Best area to be in cause everything was super close

First, the Howard Johnson is an old motel, showing signs of aging. I found the staff to be helpful and courteous. There are signs of upgrading and remodeling. The first time I stayed the Blakey was past its prime from washing. This time I had a brand new blanket. A new flat screen the first time, this room has the old analog verity. What I ask for is clean, a comfortable bed, and safety. It meets my minimum requirements. (Now I feel I must explain. There are menu verities of roaches, 2 are common house hold, there are some you do not find in homes, one is the Sewer roach, they are the American Cockroach, grow to about 3". They love water, and dark places. The cleanest home can find one any time, crawling out of the bathroom or kitchen sink, tub drain, or any any drain to the sewer. Many city's treat the sewers for them but there is a life Spain to the poison.) I found on crawling out of the drain in the bathroom. I turned on the hot water and washed him back to were he came from. This is only out of sight.... There are places they can hide safe from hot water. He WILL be back. I called the front desk, in minutes the maintenance man was at my door with bug spray. I was pleased with the speed of service. If it had been one of the two house roaches I would never come back, but the American Roach must have damp wet environment that is dark preferably. I will be back.

I went on Expedia to book my travel arrangements and I saw that the Howard Johnson Inn was the cheapest price with the highest score out of 5. So I booked it. I came to Yuma with my Mom to visit my sister that I haven't seen in literally 15 years. I've never been to Yuma before. Mind you that I'm still sitting in the hotel room as I type. Its hot as hell here so needless to say we are never coming back in the summer time! Anyways, I was so embarrassed when we pulled up to our hotel! It must be the crappiest hotel in all of Yuma! I know you should not judge a book by its cover, but there is just a certain standard that you can not negotiate. This place does not look good at all. It looks more like a budget hotel, which surprised me because the Howard Johnson Inns back in the SF Bay Area are nicer. Beyond the looks of the hotel, they did not change our sheets, but rather just remade our beds. I'm all for going green, but a change of sheets is necessary in hotels! So many people come in and out, that even though I slept in them, I would at least feel better about their procedures of cleanliness if they would have automatically changed the sheets! I didn't even put that green card on my bed that tells them to keep the same sheets, so they have no excuse. I also read on TripAdvisor.com that this place wasn't the best place because there were cockroaches. Well, I didn't believe them, because I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, I did see one that was as big as my thumb! It was outside of the room, however, but it was right outside of the door! I do want to be as fair as possible, so I will say that the free breakfasts are a plus because you get more than a standard continental breakfast; you get waffles, bagels, cereal, etc.. Also there is free Wi-Fi and the pool is usually empty. The front desk is very helpful and provides quick service to our needs. All in all, I can honestly say that this is a situation where the price did not meet the quality, expectation or standard I hoped for. If you are in the area and simply just need a place to sleep, then this may be the place for you. But when you're paying as much as I was, which was $90/night, you expect more for your money. I for one am all about the experience and had I known this was going to be it, I definitely would have booked elsewhere. When we revisit here again, I will be staying at another hotel for sure! Maybe the Shiloh Inn, because I heard that one is the best one thus far.

Please save your money and go somewhere else, unless you don't mind sleeping with giant cockroaches. I was disgusted by finding two giant roaches. I have never stayed in a place by Wyndham be as dirty as this place. The bed sheets were stained and towel are old and stain. I just hope I don't go home with roaches in my luggage:(. Outside looks like a nice .

I wish I could rate the hotel and staff separately. The hotel would receive a 3 and the staff a 5 star. They were very nice and helpful. Sonya was very forthcoming with needed information regarding the border and also local businesses. Anytime I went to the front desk and requested anything whoever was working responded immediately. The hotel however was very dated. Not the cleanest. I did check for bed bugs on arrival and there were none. We did see several roaches on the site, (not in our room ). Breakfast was a muffin and juice in a brown paper bag. Did like the coffee available 24/7. Ice machine broken down.

The place looked a little sketch upon entering because it was pitch black. The only lights you could see where the ones from the pool. Parking seemed to be very limited as well. The hotel seemed to look a little dirty from the outside. They have no elevators so if have any trouble with stairs I suggest trying to request a first floor room. Now the rooms...were honestly pretty gross. We booked two rooms together but got separated upon checking in. The rooms smelled like old, and it even looked outdated we had to febreeze the room down and sleep with the freezing air conditioning to try to get rid of the odor. There was weird wood planks underneath they bed mattress sticking out, the floor carpet felt dirty and looked dirty as well as the furniture. The bathroom floor still had hair lying around. I couldn't sleep hoping that I wouldn't wake up with bugs around me (read previous reviews after booking and checking in ‍). Only stayed 1 night out of the 4 I was suppose to. Point is...if your willing to pay a little extra go somewhere nicer and cleaner.

"Update" I have moved them from one star to two simply because Esella (sp) managed to get everything straightened out and offered us a free night. I am not sure we will use it but it's the thought and effort that count. This place is a friggen disaster waiting to happen. DO NOT STAY HERE, I REPEAT, DO NOT STAY HERE. Here's why: My wife and I decided to book a room for our friend who was to be married the next day. Great stress reliever right? wrong. The room was ~$56. I paid on line and called to let them know it was for our friend and why. I was charged $218 on my card. I called to find out why and they lady said I had booked for 4 nights. I sent them my reservation (through the hojo website) and she said she would refund the money but it would take 10-15 business days. So our friend gets there. They ask for her credit card for incidentals. They gave her a room key. She went to the room and it had not yet been cleaned. Bed not made, trash everywhere, etc. She told them and they gave her another room. This time she opened the door to find a man in the room. This scared her quite a bit. Already stressed out from months of wedding planning and inconsiderate people, she reluctantly asked for another room, as the last one was already occupied. This time she had success in scoring a "clean" unoccupied room. 70 days, 5 phone calls and after getting hung up on twice, I finally found out the extra money was not for extra nights but for incidentals that was refunded. Well they failed to mention that they refunded it to my friends credit card, not ours. So now we have the pleasure of either forgetting the $163.77 or asking our friend for the money. The only saving grace in the whole place was the accounts receivable lady Esella (sp), who is trying to do everything in her power to help. p.s. i put $$$$ because it is grossly overpriced for what you get.

My husband and I stayed here for one night on our way to Sierra Vista. It was one of the cheapest hotels he could find, and you would think that since its a HOJOs it should be fairly nice.It was a million degrees when we got there- not the hotels fault, but keep that in mind if you are travelling here during the summer. The girl at the front desk was friendly- but the manager shooed her away to check us in and couldn't find our reservation (which we had called to confirm a day before). Finally the girl that helped us in the first place came back, found our reservation and checked us in with no problems. The room was ok. Clean as far as I could tell. The TV was old and scratched and only got about 5 channels. That was pretty lame. I went to take a cold shower since it was so hot but the water never got cold- not sure why, but it was annoying. The bathroom was actually a little confusing to me. It looked like it was only half way rennovated, so the tub was old, and there was a beautiful brand-new pedestal sink next to it..... still cant figure that out. Oh, and I guess most frustrating, my husband checked his credit card online and there was a charge from HJ's for half the amount of the room, but when he called the front desk NO ONE could give him an explaination for the charge. (That charge is now gone, but almost a week later and the charge for the room still has not been applied to his credit card). Continental brekfast in the mornings- pretty standard. I had a waffle. It was gross. probably stick with cold cereal or yogurt if you eat there.

The hotel was exactly how I expected it to be. There's not a great seal around the door to your room, so each morning I was awaken by loud annoying birds that like to do nothing but scream at 5am in the courtyard. The shower had horrible pressure, it was like a trickle of pee, meanwhile the tub faucet has all the pressure. The location was convenient for what I was there for. But don't expect anything above a 1 star. Arrive with expectations that you will die, and you'll be fine.

I had a horrible experience at this hotel. I had 5 people (myself and 4 kids) all fit into a room and they advertized that we would be able to fit into a room "one Queen room" while "two queen beds" would not do as we "exceeded capacity" - I had assumed that "one queen" meant that it was two queen beds with a hideaway couch, since that was what we had been getting at all the other hotels. When we realized the mistake, they refused to refund the room and we were only able to get satisfaction through Expedia as the manager/owner refused to help us - this even though it was obvious that he did not really want us staying there (he had already yelled at my kids once). I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, but especially not anyone with children.

The carpet was so disgusting...it had large stains throughout the room! The loveseat also had stains all over. I would not walk barefoot on the carpet or sit on the loveseat. They said they were replacing the carpet in all the rooms...if that's the case...DON'T rent a room you know needs new carpet just for the extra $$. Won't be staying here again. The only good experience was Betsy. She was the one who checked me in and did a great job despite the fact they had left her alone on her first day to take care of everyone.

Long post...Worse experience of my life at a hotel! We checked in at 7:00 p.m. on a Friday. It was only my 10 year old and I staying. We get to the room and we unpack the car. I then went to the bathroom and the door wouldn't shut right. I got it to shut, but then I was locked in the bathroom. The handle was loose and spinning. My son panicked and could not open the door from the other side. After unsuccessfully trying I asked him to call the front desk from the phone. He comes back and tells me the phone doesn't work. I didn't want him going to the office by himself as the hotel was sketchy. I then had him call a friend on my cell phone. Another friend who was going to stay there had not arrived yet but was almost there. Finally I had an idea to push the handle in and push with my weight to see if I could turn it, while simultaneously having my son turn the handle and I was free after about 10-15 minutes. I then called the front desk to report what happened and also the phone didn't work. They told me they would have someone fix it the next day. Then I went to lay in the bed and the mattress sunk in. My son was scared with all the noise and the bathroom incident so we slept in the same bed. The next morning I went to make coffee and the coffee pot didn't work. Then as I was moving a bag on the counter there was a huge live cockroach on the tray next to the ice bucket and cups!!! I had it! We packed up the car, I went to the front and informed them I was checking out and what had happened. We left at 6:30 a.m. Saturday morning. I followed up with a phone call and contacted the front desk. He was apologetic and told me I would be refunded for the stay. He also said they would shut down the room for repairs. Luckily we found another room at an amazing hotel! Come to find out on Monday I was charged for two nights at the Howard Johnson! No refund! I didn't even stay for 12 hours! I've disputed the charges on my card! Don't stay at this hotel! The Bates hotel would be better then this place.

After reading reviews on another site, I booked a room here for my daughters and me...then I read the Yelp reviews and got scared. Having pre-paid, we decided to stay here and hope for the best. I'm glad we did. Yes, HoJo Yuma is a super old building but our room was clean and you can tell they are trying their best to make the rooms nice. The beds are really comfortable and the furnishings are fairly modern. They even have a microwave and fridge in every room, which you don't always find in more upscale hotels. The staff was wonderful as well. There was a bit of a wait when we arrived but there was only one person behind the desk. While dealing with one guest, she still greeted everyone who walked in and apologized for the wait. When it was our turn to check in, she was very accommodating and even switched our room for us with no hassle. My only complaint would be that the roll-away wasn't delivered until after I had called down several times. However, once it arrived, they helped me move the furniture around to make it fit. For the price I paid, this hotel was definitely better than expected.

Do not stay customer service is TERRIBLE. First I phoned in the morning to ask if there was a possibility of an early check in. Yes but its $25 never had a hotel charge me before and I have visited many hotels in my life in USA and the rest of the world. No mention of no TV service Checked in at 5pm still no mention of no TV go to room which was acceptable for the price paid. Tried to turn on TV did not work phoned down to front desk told "we are working on it", asked will we have TV tonight same reply. Went down to front desk and asked to speak to the manager who was not on site, front desk clerk phoned the manager at my request who then refused to speak to me said they would be there the following morning. Phoned corporate Wyndham who put in a report and I was told the manager would call me the next day and told me to ask if they would cancel my room.By this time the clerk was now telling people no TV and that they were working on it, but a gentleman said but there wasn't any TV last night either. They did cancel my room which was now around 6pm and I found myself having to drive back home to Phoenix. Needless to say I have never heard from the manager and Wyndham offered me 3000 points if I would become a member, considering it takes 15000 to get a free room I did not consider this a good compensation Wyndham took a week to get back in touch with me via email after I phoned them regarding not having heard from the manager. Will not stay at any Wyndham hotel again although I realize the Howard Johnson chain is bottom of their ladder but expected more
