Being the only restaurant in the plaza, Howard Wang’s seems like a hidden secret unless someone told you about it – and that would be a mistake. After a family dinner last Sunday, I can tell you – it’s a secret worth discovering. As we settled in, the dining room felt clean, warm and relaxed, with soft lighting. Tables were spaced generously, allowing for comfortable conversation and a sense of privacy. Our server greeted us with a warm smile and offered helpful recommendations. He checked in periodically to ensure we were enjoying our meal, without ever feeling rushed. With our appetites stimulated, it was time to explore the menu. We decided to go all-in and ordered a selection of dishes: 1) (9/10) Sweet & Sour Soup for starters to warm up the tummy before a feast 2) (10/10) Mongolian Beef with generous amounts of green onions and quality you can taste. The beef tasted like actual beef, a welcome change from the rubbery, starch-laden versions found at many other Chinese restaurants 3) (10/10) Hot Garlic Sauce w/ Chicken (Spicy) has a symphony of bold flavors. Sweet, savory, and with a satisfying fiery heat that kept us reaching for more. For those who like a kick, request to make it spicy! 4) (9/10) Mandarin Walnut Shrimp is one of my favorites that is complemented well with white rice to balance sweet and savory. The shrimp has the right amount of crisp and softness on the inside. 5) (9/10) Chow Fun Flat Noodle was a delicious surprise, resembling Pad See Ew but with a distinctly Chinese flavor profile. The wide noodles were perfectly soft, clinging to a flavorful sauce, with tender, fresh chicken. It was a generous portion, and the leftovers were just as good the next day. 6) (8/10) General Tsao’s Chicken is like a traditional orange chicken but with more meat-to-fat ratio. It feels like biting down real meat rather than just batter. 7) (8/10) Udon Noodles only because I’m more of a rice and flat noodle person – this was my teenage daughter’s favorite. Udon noodle fans, this one's for you! If you enjoy stir-fried noodles, you'll love this dish. We completed the night with their Chocolate Cake & Green Tea Ice Cream. 1) (9/10) Chocolate Cake: If you’re a brownie and chocolate person, the cake is a great way to reset your cheat-day. 2) (10/10) Green Tea Ice Cream: I was expecting a grainy-ice texture like most restaurants but was caught by surprise on the unique quality – creamy and freshness. Ice cream is my number one choice of dessert, which is why I’m giving it a 10/10. This was a great choice for family dinner; I am looking forward to having date night here if given the opportunity to escape the kids for a few hours. Howard Wang's is more than just a restaurant; it's a dining experience. We'll be back soon to try the duck and other fan favorites. Highly recommended!!

I ordered to go and they have their own APP which is very nice and easy to use. The portion size is very generous and has very reasonable prices. I got the fried rice combo where you get to pick 3 meats and I had chicken, beef, and BBQ Pork. There are generous pieces of meat included. It was very very good and I strongly recommend this place

You would think that if you saw this picture that someone ate this already, but this is how the duck came! And that’s a shame because I’ve had amazing duck from several other Chinese restaurants and know that good duck is phenomenal, and this was the complete opposite experience. What makes it worse is that the noodles I ordered were really good. This is just an extremely poor representation of the restaurant and I will never order again. The only reason there is a 2 star is because the chow fun was really good. 😞

We had friendly but really slow service. The problem was the food. The egg rolls looked great but were flavorless, unseasoned pork and tons of cabbage. The peppered steak was chewy and tough in an extremely salty sauce. The bbq pork lo-mein was swimming in sweet sauce. I can't recommend this restaurant.

My favorite neighborhood Chinese food place! Delivery is super fast. Even on a Saturday nigh, they delivered within 30 minutes. Order was correct and still hot upon arrival. Yay!

Been coming here for years this place never disappoints me always delicious. The service is also good. The crispy beef is always my go to.

I did a pick up this evening. The food was ready on time. The only small issue I had was that one of the containers opened app a little bit and the bottom of the Brown bag had gotten a little bit wet with the Hunan sauce.

Five Star food and service every time. The food here is outstanding. Made to order, fresh, hot, and Deeee-licious!!!! You can tell that the food is quality because it takes some time for you to get your food. I'm a chef, so I'm willing to wait because I know it's going to be good. I will be back as always.

That's the uptown location is closed. We occasionally come up to this one. I really don't think the food is prepared as well but we do come here just the same. The honey sesame chicken was pretty good, most of the pieces were tender, but not all. Chicken lettuce wraps are always a hit.

Unfortunately this order was the worst quality meal I have received from Wangs. My wonton chips were extremely stale, as were the vermicelli noodles. There were so many green onions in the Mongolian Beef I had to fish out the meat.

CHINESE FOOD SNOB ALERT! CHINESE FOOD SNOB ALERT! I pride myself on knowing who has the best fried rice in town or the crunchiest crispy noodle. So, this review should hold some weight! When I am just wanting stellar take out that reminds me of the old school Chinese food (only better), I order from Howard Wang's China Grill. I've ordered: 1. Fried Rice 2. Chow Fun 3. Mongolian Beef 4. General Tso's Chicken 5. Crispy Noodles 6. Egg rolls And they all have been upright delicious! I can't speak too much on the service or décor because how else do you order Chinese food in true takeout fashion? Umm, duh, DOORDASH! Please note, the location matters! This location is much better than the one closer to downtown. Lastly, the food is always fresh, and the fried foods are never soggy---even after delivery. If you're sleeping on HW, you're missing out.

Howard Wang's was once my favorite Asian restaurant, but last night was horrible. There were 5 of us. When we arrived a little after 6:30 pm, we were the only party in the place. Soon after the place started filling up. One of us got their order of sweet and sour chicken. After about 15 minutes, no one else had received their entrees. I asked one of the servers what was going on. Nothing. Finally I asked for the manager. He was very sorry and we got a strange excuse. Within a few minutes 3 more of us got our entrees. One of us still did not. We waited and waited. Finally about 10 or so minutes later the last plate came out. The manager did comp us some money off the bill so I appreciated that. To make things worse was my favorite dish; Hunan Beef. This has always been a favorite of mine, and I always clear my plate. This time it was not great at all. Many of the pieces of beef were grizaly and chewy. In the past the beef in this dish was melt in your mouth tender. Also, there were so many different vegetables in the dish that usual. I basically fished out the meat and ate a few pea pods and carrots. I'm really bummed with this most recent visit. Maybe it was a fluke. In the past I've usually gone at lunch. This time it was for dinner.

Terrible. Don't go! Half of the plates are disgusting sauce. Ribs are dry, burnt to black, covered with gooey sauce. Don't know what you would call that dumpster worthy stuff.

It's really like 3.5 stars, but i like to round up. We walked in right when they opened at 11. We were quickly seated and asked for our drink order. After adjusting from outside, it seemed that the air conditioning wasn't on or not working. Got kind of warm during this visit. The wait staff was really great when we got there but got worse over time when more people came in. Our 30-minute lunch turned into a 50-minute lunch due to the time it took to get the bill. The food was great! The lunch specials included a crispy small choice of either an eggroll or crab wonton. Then you have a choice of soup. I can't remember all the varieties but we enjoyed the hot and sour. It was fresh and had a nice quality to it. The entrées were really delicious. The scallops and shrimp in the dishes were large and of excellent quality. Veggies were cooked well, and the sauces tasted like they were made in-house. Overall, there is room for improvement, but given that it's so close to my work, I will absolutely be back to try this place again. Maybe when the weather calms down from being so hot in this Texas summer.

Do yourself a favor and get the jalapeno chicken and the lettuce wraps with shrimp then add extra shrimp from that to your jap chicken. So amazing. I typically get the Moo Goo but it's always too salty so I switched and I'm hooked. I took my assistant who never eats healthy and he loved the jalapeno chicken so much. Everything is so yummy here My favorite place right now next to Oishii and Ocean Prime.

Howard Wang's did me dirty. I've always loved their food, it's been tried and true. I had a really bad day, and ordered delivery...I paid for, but did not receive a side sauce. My fried wonton side was waaay overdone. My fried rice was not included. My General Tsao's chicken was burnt and inedible. The Beef Lo Mein was "strange" and inedible according to my college student. The Hot and Sour Soup was good, so were the egg rolls. So I'm $80 lighter, my family is hungry, and I'm going to throw food away. A pet peeve of mine. What a shame, so disappointed that a staple let me down like that. Needless to say that I will not be clamoring to order again...

Wow - fallen a long long way and not surprising. We have been regulars for maybe 20 years for good reason . This week was an exception. We had a long day with kids activities and my wife and I showed up at 820pm to unwind at the bar and grab a bite. Firstly, the bartender kept pretending to hear our " dine here" for "to go" about 5 times and looked disappointed when I firmly corrected him. We are not native speakers but we present at 1000 person conferences in English for the last 20 years and have never had any issues. The poor service and attitude continued till we left. Food was good and the lady server more than made up with smiles. Not going back at least till the big cool wannabe bro at the bar is gone.

Great location, lots of parking, nice decor. Prices on the menu were great but what was up with the music they were playing ok the speakers. 80' music from "pour some sugar on me" to "girls just wanna have fun" to "I had the time of my life" and then "Caribbean Queen". Is this an 80's themes Asian restaurant ?? And now the food. The sweet and sour soup and the salt and pepper calamari were good. My general Taos chicken sauce was so soupy that you could not tell that the chicken had been breaded. Also the dish is supposed to have some spice and there was none. This was an okay restaurant

2nd time ordering in town. Great Chinese takeout. We had the chicken low mein pork fried rice and chicken wings. Very nice.

I've eaten at Howard Wang's for years. Excellent food, great service, wide choices and always consistent. I love to bring guests and I'm comfortable dining in for a solo lunch. I'm leaving the area and will miss it!

In my opinion, this is way better Chinese food than PF Chang's, or most other asian food in the Preston Hollow area. The lunch specials are great, reasonably priced, and the service is usually very good. The environment is casual but nice. I am a frequent diner at this place.

The food is okay. I've been coming in for years but it seems the service has gone down. I was disappointed at the poor service at the bar as I waited for my takeaway order.

Been here many times but, my god, how the mighty hath fallen. I have been here five or six straight times recently -- both dine-in and takeout -- and well, it used to be good. Used to dine here over and over. Not anymore. To start - rude service. The owners have taken their talents elsewhere. Orders have been consistently wrong (dine-in and takeout -- the latter of which I "checked" before leaving, only to find that the bottom was something entirely different from which I ordered). Moreover, the food just tastes stale. And they've raised their prices. This is not high-dollar Chinese food. I'd rather order from the crappiest to-go Chinese food place in town and take my chances. Nowadays, about the only thing good here is dessert -- and even that is overpriced -- and is ordered in from some third party. What once was a good place is going to close soon unless the original owners step back inside and uncover the current mess this place that high-brow people (used) to frequent for a semi-upscale Chinese meal. On "busy" nights, this place is rarely full. Sad. Seems like recent marriages within the family have killed this mini-chain. On to the next, after many years. This place downright sucks now. Hate to say it. Shut it down and rebrand under a new name or something. Just awful, repeatedly. I've had enough. EDIT: it's even worse. I ordered scallions in my latest dish; they charged (and put in) Scallops -- TWICE -- at a price of $22 extra dollars, with no refund offered) instead. Learn English, please. Asked for no bamboo shoots in a stir-fry. Apparently "no" means "mo(re)": instead, they overloaded the dish with them. Stay away from this absolute tire fire. NEVER, EVER AGAIN! Have fun if you like your order screwed up each and every time (and tastes like crap now with an apparent new cooking -- notice I didn't use the word 'chef' -- crew)!

After not visiting Howard Wang's for several years we figured we would try it again. So glad we did. It has since become one of our five favorites! The "chips" (fried wonton) are terrific. The menu is accommodating for a larger group like our family. I have found my favorite dish and I get it every time. Today I think I'm gonna try something else.......but maybe not. The hot mustard is GREAT. It's an adventure......Thanks for all the good memories.

Was in the neighborhood and thought about trying something different. I've seen the sign for many years and finally decided to give it a try. Plenty of parking. Nice cherry wood décor inside. It was early Friday afternoon and no crowd. The bar had a few patrons that were having a great time! Fried wontons were dropped off as well as menus. Drinks were quickly delivered and our order was on the way to the kitchen. I was busily working on the fresh and good wontons plus the 2 dipping sauces (spicy mustard and a sweet and sour). The spicy was absolutely a nose and sinus clearer! Our food was out quickly. My first course was egg flower soup. The soup was very fresh tasting and the wontons were perfect for it! Right as we finished that course, out came the next. I ordered Mandarin Sweet and Sour chicken and beef with brown rice. The flavors were spectacular! The tartness and sweetness of the pineapple and sauce made me smile! Good portion size for a lunch and had the right amount of chicken and beef. Service was perfect, price was reasonable for the great taste and freshness plus we were on our way in no time.

We ordered food from this disgusting place from Door Dash. What arrived I would not feed to a dog. fried rice tasted like a filthy grill. Eggplant was in a watery liquid that looked like waste. How does one burn wonton chips and chicken wings and not notice? Ice cream arrived mostly melted. I seriously hope I don't get food poisoning from tasting this garbage. I am working with door dash and my credit card country to retrieve my money. I have no idea how this place is even in business.

Old time Chinese American fare. Love the service and variety. I especially like that everything is they will modify the spice level and ingredients if necessary Always friendly and extremely clean environment

I'm a Chinese living in the US for couple of years. I have to say I never eat worse food in other Chinese restaurants. It's horrible to order food here. NOT RECOMMEND.

chicken is so good and rice is very flavorful the wonton soup is my favorite. and the crab rangoons is great

The food is wonderful. The portions are huge-enough for two to three meals per entree. You get fried wontons and those good sauces before your entree comes. I got Mongolian beef with brown rice and it was to die for. Others in my party got jalapeño stir fry and kung pao shrimp. We go here often. Our waitress was very attentive.

Great food, rude servers with no hospitality. Server barely spoke to us the entire time and didn't respond with anything but one word answers. Was charged auto gratuity for a party of five when the requirement was for six. When I asked about it he said he "tired to do me a favor and take it off." Ok.

Much nicer than average for Americanized Chinese food. I got the Moo Goo Gai Pan for my dinner entree. Portion size was bigger than expected, lot more chicken than expected. The sauce was really flavorful without being too salty. Came with a side of your choice of rice. I got fried rice. Nothing special, and no complaints. If it came with crispy chow mein noodles, would easily be a meal for 2... I didn't see the option on the menu, but I wonder if they'll do it for an upcharge? For my appetizer, I got the wonton soup. It was 'ok'. Flavor was fine, but was a little cold. I got there near the end of the night, so maybe it was the last of the batch? Bet it will be better if it's proper temperature. I got a Hitachino beer, a little steep at $8... Will try a different one next time. Service wise, my server was friendly and attentive. Other staff was friendly too, but a little slow to acknowledge me to get seated. Overall, way better experience than when I went to Jia. I'd like to try it again during a more prime time to see if the small issues are better, and this place could be a 5 star for the price range.

Average chinese food not up to standards for the price. Dumplings were hard and the chow mein was flavorless. Two stars for the atmosphere and service.

TERRIBLE service. Took over 15 minutes to even get a server to our table. 30 minutes to get one appetizer (ordered 2) from the time of order and it was edamame. Regular order showed up at about 1 hour, still no second appetizer. Waitress told us that to-go orders were the priority. Asked to talk to the manager after one hour of waiting for an appetizer and manger acted annoyed that we should even be asking for our appetizer. Manager confirmed that in house dining was not a priority. Watched several tables just get up and leave and others getting partial orders and cancelling the remaining part of their order. And the general Tao's chicken was mediocre once we did finally received it. If you are in the area Royal China is a MUCH better option.

Never had dinner here but we did have lunch. Food was good. Hot an sour soup is always good. Their appetizers are crunchy fried noodle and two sauces. Love their Chinese hot mustard. Service is good sometimes a little slow considering there were only two other tables when we started. Ambiance is typical oriental that easterners would expect but nice. Back ground music needs to be Chinese not American Thai noodle was good as was Pork pancakes (need four pancake wraps not two). General Taos chicken was tender and not over cooked Lunch items were smaller than dinner size except for the price. The entree prices at lunch were dinner priced. Couldn't afford dinner here without a bank loan

This restaurant is amazing! If you're looking for some good Chinese food this is definitely the spot to go! Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki loves this place and I understand why!

Crispy duck was very good here. Enjoyed a half duck with bao and some steamed dumplings. All tasty. Recommend.

I can honestly say this was the worst dining experience in Dallas of my life (I'm 50). (Sunday December 5, 2021 at 2pm) My wife and I decided to have lunch here after really enjoying the uptown location the past few years. The service was the WORST of any dining experience of my life. The server, Anna C., was either having a very bad day, doesn't care about her job, or is trying to get back at the manager/owner for something. She made sure that we would never try this location again. There were a total of 3 tables occupied, including us. The table behind us was an older couple. They actually had to get up and get their own refills. We were brought the wrong food...twice. I should have just eaten the wrong food because my meal, when it finally arrived, was burned and just plain bad. We only received refills after we had finished our meals. The server actually only got about half the water in the glass. The rest ran all over the table and into my wife's lap. The server didn't even notice and walked off. I honestly just wanted to leave half way through this entire experience. It's impossible to describe how bad our meal experience was. The other two tables were having the exact same experience. I didn't see another employee in the dining room. There was at least one person in the kitchen and one person in the office with the door shut. They should have just locked the doors instead of ruining customers dining experience. I can't recommend this location. Stick to uptown. Anna C., I hope you are ok. I tried to reach management before posting a review. I hate leaving a negative review.

Stopped by on a Friday night for dinner. We ordered drinks and after 2 attempts, it was clear that the bartender had no clue how to make a Manhattan. Changed our orders to wine. Nice fried noodles were placed on the table. We ordered duck, shrimp and a salad with tuna on the top. Both the duck and shrimp were decent, especially the side of bok choy and yummy snap peas under the shrimp. The salad took about 10 minutes after the other entrees. I sent my rare tuna back as it was sliced and cooked all the way through. Decided not to get anything as we were heading out and on a schedule. Server was very friendly and apologetic. Not sure if I would bother again as there are so many other options in the area.

I was trying to decide between 2 and 3 stars but I decided on two. I ordered a lunch special with chicken and beef with a side of fried rice. Ordering online, all you know is what's stated on the site. I am ALLERGIC TO MUSHROOMS so not seeing that they're included in the dish as they were in others, I ordered it. I get my delivery and I start eating the rice - it was fantastic. I get to the meat and I started feeling funny. There's mushrooms. this could've been avoided had this restaurant simply said there's mushrooms in this dish. Now I'm itchy and pissed off because I wasted my money

I have been coming here for over a decade and it is a shame to say it has gone downhill. Today, I had an online order for first available pickup and everything was old and dry. The veggies, rice, meat, all of it. Very disappointing. The time before was some kind of mystery meat unaccustomed to being served here. I will not be going back as the last 2 visits were less than desirable. They will not get a third. I will be going to Mint from now on.

I've been here a couple of times and think its a solid place for Chinese food. I had the vanilla shrimp which was great. My only complaint is walking out I noticed a full bar. Their menu never mentioned alcohol or cocktails so I actually had no idea they offered it. I wish they had a cocktail menu. I thought restaurants make the most money from it so I am not sure why they don't offer it.

Some of the best Chinese food in all of Dallas but for some reason the dining room was extremely hot during a cool autumn day. I was literally sweating at the table.

I've been eating at Howard Wang's for years. They have been my go to Chinese food. But... the last few times I've gotten the pad Thai it has been so sweet it is inedible. I know there is sugar in Chinese food but this is ridiculous. My husband got the beef Szechuan and his was also too sweet for his taste. He still ate his. I threw my pad Thai away. I miss my old pad Thai. Please stop putting so much sweetener in it.

Peking duck was dry and overcooked. Hot tea was not fresh, bitter tasting right out of the pot. Not many customers for a Friday night, probably due to the food quality. Food at the other Howard Wang is much better,

Wed May 11, 2022. Ordered the beef tenderloin (2 orders) with pepper sauce. The meat was so tough we could barely cut it with a knife. Told a staff member and she just cleared the plates from the table. No one seemed concerned that our meal was a disaster. Jack D

Not sure why the reviews are so bad! Ordered food from here off ubereats. My only complaint was the wait for the food but I don't think it was solely their fault. The crispy prawns were good. Not crispy but still good.

Classic and fresh- terrific food, service people always busy but worth the wait.. My go-to for Chinese food.

We were fortunate enough to have an in-person experience at Howard Wang's. It was great to see they are following CDC guidelines for restaurants regarding Covid-19. There were not a lot of people in the restaurant so there was ample room for everyone. As far as the food goes, hands down one of the best around. The orange chicken was so flavorful. The wonton soup will have you wanting more. The vanilla prawns were the absolute best. Everything that I tasted was full of flavor, but not over seasoned. Hot and fresh with the perfect amount of flavor. I had an amazing experience; therefore, I highly recommend this restaurant.

A hidden gem of a restaurant. Non hustle place with moderate prices food and good strong martini's. A good place for all family members. The orange peel chicken is fabulous but be prepared to take food home because the plate portions are hardy. Awesome place. Go casual too.

Ordered, assuming based on price point this would be a step up from the average Chinese takeout. Well, fool me once. Fried rice was super dry, like hey-I-found-some-rice-at-the-back-of-the-fridge dry. Barely any veggies in the stir fry and they were thinly cut and overcooked. Everything just tasted heavy and sweet. This is probably decent hangover food, but we were hoping for some fresh flavors and none were found in this dinner. Oh, and in case I wasn't crystal clear earlier -- I just had another forkful of the fried rice and it really is the worst. It's what happens when steamed rice dries out and hardens after a day or three and then you toss it in oil and soy sauce in a failed bid to revive it.

Grew up coming here, it was always great! But over the past 2 years or so it has really gone down hill! Unfortunately I'm going to have to throw in the towel on this place! They need quality ingredients not something that tastes like It was pulled from freezer. Just somebody who cares about what's going out to their customers whether it be dine in or takeout! Hopefully something will change, because I used to love this joint!

After already having a bad experience with this establishment I decided to return and give them another try. Upon my arrival, I let the hostess that took care of me know that I had I bad experience as the response on the review told me to do. While eating, I noticed that the inside of my pot sticker was completely pink when I let the staff know I was told that that's how it's mad after being looked at like I said something out the way then he ended the conversation with "nobody's complained before " as a manager you would think he would have tried to fix my problem but instead I was given attitude I will not be returning.

I have been a loyal customer of Howard Wangs for a few years now. I typically order delivery from them 1-2 times a week. During my last order, they forgot to deliver my hot and sour soup. I ran outside and caught the delivery driver and let him know it was missing. He said "don't worry, I will take care of you next time and bring you a large soup." I told him that his suggestion was fine and that I would add a note to my next order. Today, I placed a new order and the restaurant refused to add the soup since they didn't save it in their system. It's kind of sad that 1) the delivery driver forgot an item, 2) promised to fix it, 3) later refused to fix it, and of course 4) lost a long time customer....actually make that multiple customers. A soup cost nothing compared to what they are loosing in the long run. I am spreading the word based on principal. Take care of your people Howard Wang's!
