The Saddest Restaurant Closings in Atlanta, July 2025 | Eater Atlanta

"The Grant Park café is set to close after its final service on August 3. Owner Wendy Baker cited rising rental costs and growing local competition as factors in the decision; the café shares space with the recently relocated Dr. Bombay’s Underwater Tea Party, is about a mile from the newly opened Green Beans Cafe, and roughly half a mile from Grant Park Coffeehouse. The spot had opened in 2022." - Henna Bakshi

Howdy ATL Biscuit Cafe and Coffeehouse Is Opening Across From Zoo Atlanta in Grant Park - Eater Atlanta

"Owned by Boyd Baker, expect a variety of biscuits, biscuit sandwiches, scones, hand pies, and baked goods, along with soups and salads, served on the menu here. Baker, who previously worked for Waller’s Coffee Shop in Decatur overseeing the food there, also plans to sell breads from local Atlanta bakers at the cafe. In addition to biscuits, baked goods, and coffee, Baker hopes to eventually serve beer and wine and host live music, poetry readings, and political discussions at Howdy ATL, offering a vibe at the cafe reminiscent of a 1960s coffeehouse." - Beth McKibben

This is a cute little coffee shop with a nice decor. The eating area was decorated in a way that made the space cozy. The food was not great at all. The cashier was nice enough while checking us out. Despite the decor and the coziness of the space, there wasn’t much energy. Lots of things, no soul. But on a hot day, it was a welcome respite.

Google
food and drinks were fantastic! the dining area is absolutely beautiful with all sorts of different places to sit and enjoy while reading, studying, or catching up. We stopped in before heading to the zoo which is directly across the street. We will come here again if we are back in town. the Cheddar herb biscuit was to die for

Google
This "Mom and Pop" breakfast place is so good! It's right across the street from the zoo. We are vegan and it was so exciting to find vegan biscuits and coffee! I had the cinnamon honey coffee. It was the perfect flavor! Also the biscuits were so so good! The couple that runs the place are really friendly. It was a great experience! I highly recommend eating there!

Stopped by from breakfast one Sunday morning. The breakfast burrito and the grit bowl were good, but the real star was the biscuit served with homemade strawberry jam. The decor is calming and vibes are welcoming.

Google
We decided on this place when the restaurant we had planned to visit was closed. So glad we found this restaurant! The cheddar drop biscuit is a dream and I would never have guessed it was gluten free. The blueberry muffin was amazing- real blueberries and just the right texture. Lattes were great- Funky Monkey and Sunbear were our favorite. We will be back! The only thing that I would change is the parking situation. Extremely difficult to find parking but worth the effort.

Google
This is honestly the most wonderful and value for money place I have been to. I had cheesy grits, a blueberry muffin, a coffee and some hibiscus and lavender tea, which was insane. The interior was so lovely as well and they had a banging playlist on!

Google
My daughter has Celiac and finding gluten free food that uses separate cutting boards, etc is nearly impossible. She said the gluten free cheddar biscuit was “the best biscuit” she has ever had. We will be back! My vanilla latte was amazing as well!

Google
Environment didn't feel inclusive. I came in and the lady immediately left from behind the counter to go do something in the back without greeting or acknowledgement i was quite shocked making me feel like my hard earned money would be best spent elsewhere. The sentiment echoed in the establishment. Hey I get it . After gentrification some feel territorial. The food was something I won't have again. Its my job to not attack or expose but be HONEST.

Yelp
This place is on my regular rotation for pastries and coffee items since I live nearby and often walk by it when I walk my dogs. I love supporting small, local businesses and this is one of my favorites. For this trip, I ordered a cold brew which was around $4 and some change. They have some yummy pastries too - my favorite is the Willy B - basically a drop biscuit with iced sugar icing. They have some outdoor seating which fills up quick on a nice day. Love that dogs get a free biscuit at the counter. My dogs know they get treats here and always beg to stop.

Yelp
We were headed to the Zoo and wanted to grab a coffee first so we stopped in this little shop across from the Zoo parking lot. You order in the first area to the left and then walk through the back to a large cozy dining area. We tried the Sun Bear latte and it was yummy. The biscuits were delicious. We both had the herb cheese biscuit, I had bacon and pimento cheese and the hubby had bacon, egg and cheese. We will be back! The pastries looked yummy too complete with a Wille B cinnamon roll. The staff were busy but very kind and helpful.

Yelp
My friend and I purchased breakfast here before I visited the Atlanta Zoo on my own. There was one customer ahead of us. The interior is small but cozy. I ordered a gluten-free cheddar biscuit and a coconut brownie as well as a hot espresso beverage called the Bee Sting. Everything tasted super fresh and delicious! I would definitely recommend this location. It's literally across the street from the zoo entrance. They have outdoor seating. The customer service is excellent.

Kari L.

Yelp
Great food! Affordable and the staff was very kind. Nice little stop over after the zoo with plenty of space to sit.

Yelp
Truly kind people and a wonderful vegan biscuit!! Fast service and a cute space. Thoroughly enjoyed my experience!

Yelp
Loved everything but the grits. The biscuit & quiche was great though, def would recommend because it's a cute space and like I said I loved everything but the grits but that could have been an off day
google avatar

Hernley J.

Yelp
Very solid coffee shop. The space is pretty small so it's good for a grab and go type of vibe. Would def recommend if you're in the area

Yelp
We wanted to grab a bite before heading to the Zoo. Service was great for a small shop. We ordered a couple of breakfast sandwiches and coffee. There was plenty of room to sit and relax before doing a bunch of walking. Would definite return when back in town. Place also had outdoor seat and dogs were allowed on the patio.

Trav S.

Yelp
Great coffee, offers vegan sausage biscuits and fantastic customer service. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
My friend, my daughters, and I stopped here for lunch today and had a lovely experience. I had forgotten that the restaurants at the beacon are closed on Monday, so we took a walk up to what I thought was going to be the Grant Park coffee shop because I knew it was open on Monday. When we arrived, I quickly realized that instead of the Grant Park coffee shop, there was a new business in town! Howdy took over this location on May 13th, 2022, and I am very pleased with the change! The menu choices were an immediate improvement. Biscuits and sandwiches, orzo salad, soup, and pocket sandwiches are all made in-house. A steady coffee menu is available with seasonal options (a maple latte was available in October 2022). While the ice cream bar is no longer, they do have ice cream treats like ice cream bars and ice cream sandwiches. Ms. Diane took great care of us from behind the cafe counter. She was just lovely and made an already pleasant experience really special. My 3-year-olds ate all their ham & cheese pocket sandwich. My friend really liked her biscuit sandwich, and I enjoyed my BLT. The snickerdoodles were harder than I prefer, so I dunked mine in my iced latte. There's a single person bathroom inside, patio and indoor seating, and street parking. Enjoy!

Yelp
Great food, great vibe, super nice people. And potentially the fairest prices of anywhere I've been in Atlanta in a long time. Love this place!

Yelp
This was my first breakfast stop while visiting ATL and it didn't disappoint. The women working here are so nice, the biscuits are full of flavor and break apart. They had decaf latte options which was the first thing I needed after a 3 AM flight and it was great. The shop inside is very cute and they have outdoor seating outside to enjoy the beautiful weather. Great prices as well. We came back in the afternoon for some chocolate chip cookies and they were delicious

Yelp
This place is sooo cute. I was doing Lyft and stopped by to grab a latte. And the shop is so adorable and quiet. I was going to get my normal latte but I switched it up and got Oatmilk and noticed people were getting these biscuit breakfast sandwiches. so you know I had to get one. I tried the Vegan Breakfast Sandwich and y'all it really was delicious. Fresh hot biscuits and they are vegan! and I am not, so great place to try something new with a friendly owner.

Yelp
A mini review: Deviled Eggs- good eggs with a homemade feel. Curry Potato Spinach pastry- not heated through; uninteresting flavour; never again. Chai- quite good; I'd like another. Cortado- husband loved it. Nice service. We shall return.

Yelp
Here we are in ATL getting ready for a day at the zoo. Of course, we'd like some coffee and breakfast treats so we found howdy atl...right across the street from the zoo. The staff is great and the shop is quaint. We had lattes of all sorts...yum! Add to that the breakfast biscuit, quiche and...don't judge...the cream cheese brownie. All were delicious. I definitely recommend howdy atl whether or not you're heading to the zoo.

Yelp
The food was solid. One of the best vegan breakfast sandwiches I've ever had. I would have liked a plate for being a dine-in customer. I do appreciate that they bring the food to you after you order. The only other thing I'd change is the letters on the menu are hard to read. The magnet letters are a cute idea but because they're all different shapes and colors my eyes had a hard time focusing. Maybe that's just a me thing though? On the wall across the counter they have a bunch of local owned business flyers. This place is any communities dream. A place where people can come together and eat a wonderful meal.

Yelp
A good and proper cortado. The biscuit left a bit to be desired. A bit dry and crumbly for my taste.
google avatar

Roseanne M.

Yelp
Really good vibes in here. A lot of care goes into the food. I'm GF, and the cheddar drop biscuit delivered.

Andrew K.

Yelp
I've stopped by for biscuits here twice. The second time was better than the first so I think they are working out the kinks as they acclimate here. I tried the cheddar biscuit, one of the scones, the cinnamon bun (my favorite), and blueberry biscuit. Mostly I've not been impressed with the biscuits as they are too dry and if this is the reason I should come here, I'm not sold. The workers are friendly and service was fine both times I visited. The space inside doesn't feel all that different than the previous iteration (Grant prk coffee shop) but I'm assuming that will change too. I've noticed that since opening they've added some small bites and other food items. Considering they're across from the zoo, this is convenient and along with the coffee, there is a draw. I'll come back to try more (good to support local business), but probably not in a hurry.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped by for breakfast here today before going to the zoo. Inside was clean and quiet with friendly service. We ordered a hot chicken biscuit and a broccoli quiche with a lemonade and coffee cake. The biscuit and quiche came to us right away, but waitstaff forgot about the lemonade and the coffee cake. Overall food was pretty good, the quiche and biscuit were both very tasty and the lemonade tasted home made. The coffee cake was a bit dry and we probably wouldn't get it again. Very convenient location by the zoo if you're looking for a quick bite, and would recommend!

Alex C.

Yelp
loved it here - will be back many times. delicious vanilla latte and almond chicken salad sandwich. great atmosphere, plenty of seating, kind staff, and a bunch of books to read.

Lisa C.

Yelp
Tasty food and friendly service -just across the street from the zoo! Can sit outside

Yelp
Stopped in for the first time today for a late lunch - I'm glad I did!! Located within walking distance of my office ! I ordered the almond chicken salad sandwich served on homemade bread!!! Great!!!!! Love the desserts too Friendly atmosphere- will definitely go back!

Jaymie M.

Yelp
I am a local who lives one street over and have access to coming here a lot. Granted, I have a hard time making it there before work in the morning. This is my first time here in a while and I know that you are looking for candid feedback. I was a third person in line, and when I got to the counter to order, I was not greeted with a "good morning". instead was greeted by young girl with "OK,What would you like"...that feels impersonal as if I am an inconvenience. When leaving with my coffee after I said thank you was not told to have a good day or anything. I saw the woman behind me in line be greeted with kindness. What's up with that? As a neighbor I should feel welcome walking into my local coffee shop.

Bill E.

Yelp
Sandwich and coffee were excellent. Both the owner Boyd and server were very friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back. Highly recommend. Great place to watch the Adams Run for the Park.

Lisa M.

Yelp
My blueberry scone was one of the best I've ever had.. my husband loved the biscuits! Coffee was good too! What a great find... will be back!

Victoria S.

Yelp
the workers here are so genuinely nice and caring. This was my first stop in Atlanta and I am so glad! Amazing bacon egg and cheese biscuit, coffee, and orange juice. The space is cozy and in a pretty area thank you for a great introduction to Atlanta!

Yelp
We live in the Grant Park area & are so happy that Howdy's is now open! We entered this cafe today & were greeted enthusiastically by the employees. The lattes & baked goods we ordered were excellent. Thank you for making us feel so welcomed!

Yelp
Our new favorite breakfast/brunch spot! Love that they have GF and vegan options. Food and lattes are always delicious, and we love showing this location business love. Stop by and say "howdy" to the friendly staff. You won't be sorry you did!

Yelp
Delicious biscuits -- I had the bacon, egg and cheese and it hit the spot. This is a family owned place that clearly has so much love baked in. Excited to see them turn this place into a community space, as well.

Vivian T.

Yelp
This cafe is so cute, It's giving mom and pop vibes. The location is very nice across from the zoo, Great people watching spot. The outside area is a good size and dog friendly ! We had the bacon, egg and cheese biscuit. The egg casserole was very interesting..the biscuits were kinda dry and my partner found a small hair in his... BUT the iced vanilla latte with lavender was to die for and I would return just for that alone, and maybe try another breakfast item..

Martial T.

Yelp
Wonderful place, splendid location and patio. The coffee was delicious, the biscuit sublime. The owners are really going out of their way to make it a special place. Thank you for a delightful breakfast while in the area this morning. Will come back!
