Howdy Homemade Ice Cream

Visited here while on vacation. The ice cream is okay. Didn’t wow me or anything. This ice cream shop is extremely small. Literally one table and two chairs, anyone else who came had to get their ice cream to go or they ate it outside. Paid $18 for what is pictured. It wasn’t horrible but I probably would not visit again.

The inside was super clean and had good decorations, plus the outside had some super cute standing tables. The employees were very friendly and had good ice cream suggestions, and I had a very good experience!

They are a super special ice cream shop with an extra sweet spot for special needs! Incredibly friendly and helpful staff.

Cute ice cream shop with lots of handmade flavors. The chocolate and peanut butter was real good. Service was pleasant. The only thing was the shop smelled like cleaning solution. But that's better than other offensive smells. Ha! I did find this place to be welcoming and in a cool shopping strip. It's clear this is owned and operated as a small business. Very personable and creative.

Pretty good ice cream, place is small, outside seating is better weather depending. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Felt pricey or I would have given 5 stars.

I was introduced to this Ice cream by Undivided Life, and I am so beyond amazed at what their goals and aspirations are within this company. The ice cream itself was incredible! I will definitely be coming back!

Jujuan was a great help! Had the salted caramel and was very good. The mission of this ice cream shop is great. Hiring and creating an environment for those with special needs. A few of these low star reviews don’t understand the individuals working here and it shows. A few are just down right mean and hiding behind fake profiles.

I dropped off my Bunny Babe off at Summertree animal hospital which happens to be a few doors down for the weekend for eye surgery. I was full of tears and walked past Howdys for the first time and saw so many happy people standing outside eating ice cream with their families so I forced myself to walk in with tears down my face and sure enough the ice cream and the staff were so amazing! The Icecream is homemade and it was just so Good. It was so so good I had to leave a review. Must try! It's Exactly what I needed to dry these tears Try the birthday cake it will leave a big smile on your face ‍‍‍ This place is heaven sent!

This little ice cream shop is a delight. We stopped in on a Friday at 1 pm and were greeted by two attendants behind the counter. They were super nice and patient while we decided on what to order- a small 1-scoop birthday cake for my niece and a 2-scoop of Dr. Pepper chocolate chip & butter pecan for me to share with my mom. I thought the portion sizes were quite generous, too. You know the ice cream is good when you say, "Wow," on the first bite. Plus, I love that this Dr. Pepper is unique to them. I'd go as far as saying this is better than the Blue Bell Dr. Pepper Float flavor that was recently released. Trust me when I say I've eaten a lot of ice cream in my life. This is some of the best in Texas. We lucked out that it wasn't busy because we were able to sit at the one bistro table inside. It was a cute space overall and I'm sure the outdoor seating is nice when the weather is a little less hot. This was such a treat as we were visiting from San Antonio. Wish they had a location near us!

BEWARE if you have any kind of nut allergy! I made a request to the manager of the shop to use a clean scoop to avoid cross contamination because of my peanut allergy. She picked up the scoop from the water pail and said "I see nothing wrong with it ". I tried explaining to her again that I needed a clean scoop due to my allergy and she responds with "We always clean the scoops". I'm unsure if she misunderstood what I was saying or if she was choosing to ignore my request. Either way, I believe that she would greatly benefit from training about allergies and having a clean pack of scoops in the back to accommodate their customers.

It's good, like really good. When you want ice cream, this is the place to go. I appreciate the friendly faces that greet me and offer suggestions of their favorite flavors. It was hard to choose a flavor, but that means that I will just have to return for more! Today I had the brownie points scoop on a waffle cone 10/10.

I really wanted to like this ice cream; however, the texture is more ice than cream. I did buy it at a local grocery store, so maybe something caused this flaw within the delivery.

Nice little shop, went after having dim sum and sushi next door. Ice cream was not lacking sugar, and would not have again. Always happy to support small businesses.

Howdy homemade ice cream was a total home run! First of all the ice cream was fantastic. Different flavors like funnel cakes, Dr Pepper, strawberry milkshake, etc. make it fun to choose want to order, and the ice cream itself is creamy without ice crystals in it. The Texas praline flavor was phenomenal, my husband really likes the cold brew and the strawberry milkshake flavor. Not only does this place serve fantastic ice cream, but their commitment to helping Texans with special needs through jobs and job training it's truly remarkable. In the food industry there is so much turnover and unfortunately there can be a lot of poor customer service. This was not the case at Howdy. Very friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, a very pleasant experience indeed. When we are back in town we will definitely come back!

Wonderful homemade ice cream with a superlative mission. Had a tremendous visit with Steve and Amanda when ordering a scoop of vanilla and a scoop of chocolate. Highly recommend the exceptional service (thank you Amanda). Howdy is my go-to for the best ice cream.

RUN DONOT WALK!!!! THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!!! I am not joking with you when I say the workers here are some of the nicest employees I've come across, and all around just seemed like they LOVED their job!!! So absolutely refreshing to see!!! Now the ice cream- Oh man. Oh man oh man oh man. SO GOOD AND SO MANY FLAVORS. I'm a super healthy person and try to eat really clean. Let me tell you how quickly that went out the window. Not only did I slurp up my ice cream as fast as I possibly could, I finished off my kids ice creams they couldn't finish! I truly can't recommend this place enough!!

We arrived one minute after closing, and the girl and boy working were just pulling the outside cart in. I will say that the ice cream was tasty, but it was the two people working who made it a special experience. They were so sweet, and we got the full southern yes Sir/Yes Ma'am service. I just love when the people make the experience. And yes, I will say it again...the ice cream was super good (esp the red velvet) but the people bring you back.

Nice little place. The service is wonderful and eager to help. I had the Dr. Pepper chocolate chip (gonna need extra time in the gym! :-) and my date had the birthday cake. Both were wonderful. We had two scoops each and that was plenty! Sat at one of the covered outside tables while there was a light rain. So fun. We'll be back!

VERY disappointed. Portion size is very small. Price at $4 is quite a bit for such a small scoop Ice cream was not very creamy at all, which is why I gave such a low rating. Taste was not great also. Number one. This is a mom and pop shop. Do not expect Michelin. Mom and pop got a flavor and style. You know what I mean? Now that we got that out of the way. Number two. Do not listen to the bad reviews on here. Just haters. Number three. Ice cream was great. Unique. Loved it. And yes, the dr.pepper does taste like dr.pepper. it's not gonna taste exactly what you get out of a can. But you can definitely taste it. So whoever said it didn't taste like Dr.pepper, dun listen to them. Come. Eat. Lick. Support.

Ice cream truly tastes homemade which is hard to do! Super creamy and my only complaint is that I wish they were open later in the evening!! If you are gluten free the peanut butter chocolate ice cream has nutter butters in it as opposed to peanut butter cups.

this place made me feel really uncomfortable but I'm very excited to try their new Dr Pepper ice cream because my friends really like it but this place really did make me feel uncomfortable and I did not like the vibe no one even looked me in the eyes

This place makes all of their Ice Cream in-house and the staff is always wonderful. It's a cute little place that needs to have more exposure and they have wonderful new flavors coming in all the time. A great element is this place employees only people with disability who completely run the store and has a great mission. This is my ice cream place of choice and I will be back many more times.

Like my grandpa used to say: the food is meh and the portions are small. Stopped by with high expectations due to rave reviews on Yelp. We ordered 6 different flavors, cones and pints to go. The only flavor we really liked was Dr Pepper chocolate chip, the rest were just OK. For the price we expected the level of Sweet Firefly, but the flavors did not stand out. In addition, the scoops were very conservative in size, the pints were seriously underfilled, and the waffles were not crispy. We wanted to love it, as for some reason DFW does not have too many really good ice cream spots (go figure why). Said that, the shop is really cute, and the staff is very nice.

Great homemade ice cream! Very friendly and generous scoop sizes. I think the best part were their unique flavors. We tried the carrot cake, Dr. Pepper chocolate chip, banana chocolate, and Cookie monster. All of them were awesome! You can actually taste real flavors and not just pure sugar and artificial flavoring. I'd come back again for sure!

This is a very cute shop. The employees are nice and the flavors go from traditional to fun. They make the ice cream here which is definitely awesome. The bathroom was clean and I'd definitely recommend you to stop by. I tried avocado ice cream today and it was awesome. I only took off 1/2 a star for my husband wanting more actual strawberry pieces in his ice cream and our table having ice cream spots when we set down.

LOVE this new scoop shop! Rather small space but just know you can take pints to go to. The Dr Pepper Chocolate Chip is awesome! Sounds weird but give it a try :) also know that the business cards have a loyalty program so make sure you start yours on your first visit.

Definitely some very creamy ice cream. I had to go with the Dr Pepper flavor. If you like DP this flavor is for you. I also had to add a scoop of Creamsicle. I loved the smooth, cold taste. The ice cream was also just at the right temperature giving it the consistency of soft serve. Not being a local makes it a good thing or I would be back often to sample their ample variety of flavors.

Great Ice cream and staff. My only issue is I was unable to get a receipt from them-it printed all blank. When the worker asked the manager what to do they said give your email and we will send it. It's for work so I eeded a expense receipt and they never sent the receipt.

From the moment I walked in and was greeted with a friendly "Howdy", I knew this place was something special. I peeked at the ice creams and there were SO MANY good flavors it was really hard to choose. Red velvet, cheesecake, birthday cake, salted caramel, Cookie Monster. How does one decide?!? I couldn't. So I went with a double scoop of cookies and cream and chocobananas. Yum! The consistency of the ice cream was perfect. I love that you could taste that the ice cream is homemade. It was thick, creamy and smooth. It had a softness to it that I really appreciated. Besides the delicious ice cream, I loved getting to read a little about the companies mission in providing individuals with special needs an opportunity to get work experience. They had a few shirts they were selling with this description and I noticed the way that the simple menu and visual cash posted near the register provided real life modifications to make working there accesible. I hope others learn from these simple work place modifications that create equitable opportunities for all. I loved this shop and hope I get a chance to visit again!

This was our first experience and what a delicious treat! We were greeted as soon as we entered the door with a "Howdy!" The employee that helped us was very attentive and had a fun personality. The ice cream was SO creamy and full of flavor! I highly recommend the Cold Brew & Cookies. We really enjoyed the experience and will definitely be back! (Please excuse the lack of pictures; we couldn't wait to enjoy!)

I have been wanting to try the Dr. Pepper Chocolate Chip for a while and I finally had the opportunity to last weekend. The gentlemen helping us offered up a variety of interesting flavors for tastes. I was glad I had the opportunity to try the famed flavor, although I gotta say... I'm not sure it tastes much like Dr. Pepper? Maybe just me and my tastebuds. I thoroughly enjoyed the seasonal pumpkin flavor! When I return, I will start making my way through all the different flavors. I really liked the home-town feel of the shop and that they were decorated for Halloween!

One of the easiest 5 stars I've given. I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place yet - I've been multiple times and love them! Everything from the cute decor, to the awesome, friendly staff, to the delicious, homemade ice cream is on point. In the past, I've had their Dr. Pepper Chocolate, Coffee, and Peanut Butter flavors. When I went more recently, I wanted to branch out and try other flavors. I literally tried two flavors and loved both of them, the Huckleberry and Chocolate Covered Strawberry, so much that I ended up getting two scoops (one of each flavor) for myself P: No regrets. The Huckleberry is a bit tarty and similar in taste to blueberry. Haven't seen another ice cream shop with this flavor and loved the uniqueness. The Chocolate Covered Strawberry flavor is a base of strawberry with flakes of chocolate bits mixed in. YUM. My friend got a scoop of their Pecan which was a bit too sweet for me but tasted really nutty and authentic. I will DEFINITELY be back to support this local business and their employees. If you're reading this review, you need to go check them out! Next on my list of flavors to try are their Carrot Cake and Cookie Monster. Summary: ice cream 5/5, ambiance 5/5, service 5/5.

I had a craving for ice cream and I remembered seeing an advertisement for this place so I sent my fiancé to get me some ice cream. They had pre-package ice cream ready to go so I asked for the cookies and cream. It was so nice and creamy! It had the right amount of cookies in it. I'd like to go inside next time to see what other flavors they have and possibly sample.

Some of the best Ice cream I have ever had. This place tops everyone. The people working were really nice and I definitely will be back again. I had the banana split and it was just amazing, so much flavor.

The ice cream is so yummy. I had the cinnamon in a waffle bowl and it tasted perfect, not too much cinnamon. My kids got the mint chocolate chip and enjoyed it. The obly downside is there is nowhere to eat inside so you have to enjoy outside or to go.

Delicious ice cream made with heart and soul in this charming shop in N Dallas. We loved our ice cream, which was made with only be finest and freshest ingredients. But the cherry on the top of a lovely dessert outing was the heart these folks have for kids with special needs: giving them a chance at employment and all the self-confidence that inspires. 5 heartwarming stars

The feel good go to for any occasion. I really love their story on hiring individuals with special needs. They have an incredible selection of flavors. All homemade. I love it here ! I wish we had a place like this back home. Everyone here is so nice and is happy to help you. They all have fun things to share about themselves if you ask politely. The owner is very friendly and is super inviting. In fact, he was closed but saw us looking inside and let us in to show us around. I recommend this place to anyone far and wide. It's one of the first places I've seen on my trip to Dallas and I will definitely keep it in my memory. Happy Servings !

Tried this out for the first time. The Cookie Monster flavor was out but I ended up getting Red Velvet, Birthday Cake, Strawberry Sorbet, Dr Pepper and Coconut flavors for our family choices. Red Velvet was too sweet but I had to trade with my son and eat it because he ended up not liking it. The sorbet was ok, shoulda stuck with lemonade sorbet. I love the concept here and I most definitely would come back just to see if I can try Cookie Monster. Friendly staff and Christian rock along w/theatrical movie songs playing and the Vice President loves children. All the staff was very welcoming.

This place is so hard to find, but it's worth it when you you find it. It's a local spot with interesting flavors. The y had : hot tamale, avocado, James the giant peach etc. I love when ice cream places get creative. I ordered cookies and cream because I wasn't something more traditional. The size and price seem right and you feel tummy full after the tasty ice cream. The service at this places exudes warmth. I think that may be the charm of the place.

I had read about Howdy Homemade somewhere and wrote it down to try. I finally got around to stopping in this weekend. I was promptly greeted upon walking in by unusually friendly staff that wanted to get to know me and make sure I tried all the flavored i desired. I tried the Cookie Monster- a cookies n cream ice cream with mint, and the Dr Pepper chocolate chip which was outrageous. I walked out of there with two scoops, one scoop more than I intended but I devoured every last bite. The icing on the cake was the gold spoons- I think they were a great touch! I plan to come back and will suggest to others. I truly love that there is a homemade ice cream place locally that is not a chain as Dallas seems to love those. This is a diamond in the rough.

Absolutely the worse ice cream place ever. Not like the pictures. No indoor seating Ice cream was hard and they gave me a small amount because they couldn't scoop it out. Took about 15 minutes to make our cups (3) single scoops. Half filled. Then it didn't even taste good.

Had a great experience at Howdy Homemade Ice Cream this evening. My cousin was visiting from D.C. and she heard about the shop on the news. We decided to check it out and it was worth the detour. I will definitely go back when I am in the area.

Just received my Valentines Day delivery. How awesome!! And the best tasting. Arrived at perfect temp and in their own van. I hope others will try this amazing company.

I love their ice cream! S'mores, Cookie and cream, and avocado are my favorite flavors from this place! Customer service is 9/10 Ice cream is 9/10 And they make me feel really welcome every time! Highly recommend this place!

I love their mission and it warmed my heart to be able to patronize an Iced Cream Shop committed to such a noble cause. Two things I love: Iced Cream (I can eat it any time, any day!) and empowering communities! Did I mention their awesome flavors?! Some unique flavors on their menu have been created by high-performing employees! I tried their most popular: Dr. Pepper Flavor!!!! I know what you're thinking... "Huh?! Dr. Pepper!". I thought that, too! But, it was so incredibly delicious! I hope Howdy Homemade expands their business in Houston. Our Special Needs community in Houston would benefit tremendously, and of course our taste buds, too! :)

Love the ice cream and prices here...also love the staff. There are tons of flavors including many unique ones and they are not shy about letting you try. The employees will also share with you their favorite flavors and tell you a little story. The prices are totally fair and I love that it is the same price whether you choose a cake cone or waffle cone. Toppings are also only $.10. This place has the feel of a shop that would be located in a small beach town. But turns out it is in HP.

Fantastic little ice cream shop I highly recommend. We tried the Dr. Pepper Chocolate Chip, Cold Brew & Cookies, and Chocolate-covered Strawberry. All three were simply creamy and delicious. Dr. Pepper tasted perfectly like the drink. Cold-brew and cookies was the right blend of coffee and sweet. The strawberry was just divine. Worth a stop if you live in Dallas or just visiting.
