Google
Howl Coffee is a total vibe—a grounded, artsy, soul-fueled space that pulls you in and makes you want to stay awhile. I ordered the Palo Santo Latte and holy wow… it’s a must-try. Deep, earthy, comforting, and unlike anything I’ve had before. Pure ritual in a cup. The staff was super friendly, creating a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. And the apothecary + mercantile area is such a fun bonus. It’s full of locally made creations—herbal goods, art, jewelry, potions—you name it. Every corner of the space invites you to explore and feel inspired. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, Howl is one of those places that feeds the soul as much as it does your caffeine cravings.

Google
This is my favorite place in town! I come here regularly for my iced vanilla latte fix and the pistachio ice cream is to die for. There’s always a great selection of fun stuff to look at including jewelry, skincare, books, tarot cards and hair accessories. The staff is very friendly and the overall atmosphere is cute and cozy.

Samantha

Google
Specialty latte flavor was great. Expensive but you do get a fancy beverage. Cute shop with clothes & things.

Google
Great coffee. I ended up staying for a couple rounds because it was so nice Very interesting high quality goods. Not your usual knick knacks it was actually a really well curated collection. Overall a nice place to sit, relax and enjoy a nice cup of coffee.

Google
The mochas have a lovely spice to them, and the palo santo honey latte is also delicious! It's a nice place to work for a few hours with their large, community style tables. Love the collection of goods sold in the mercantile, too.

H Krussow

Google
My honey lavender latte didn’t have any honey or lavender flavor which was disappointing but the affogato with whiskey ice cream was great! The ambiance and atmosphere was really nice!

Google
Cute shop, great matcha latte and lavender latte. Has a couple of nice seats and tables outside as well. Very pleasant

Google
This shop was everything I could dream of, a beautiful mercantile with local goods AND a coffee shop. I may never leave. The coffee was 10/10 we came back twice in one day. Gentleman working was very kind as well.

Yelp
Beautiful store with a variety of wonderful things! I have not tried to coffee here but I pop in to look around whenever I am in the area!

Yelp
Great coffee! We had the iced Raspberry mocha and it was delicious! Neat gifts inside as well.

Yelp
WHAT A CUTE PLACE!! Walked in for a coffee on a cold day, and was greeted with a mercantile selling very aesthetically-pleasing items. The coffee is ordered in the back of the store; I was torn between the Aromatic Maple signature coffee or the Honey Lavender. I'm a sucker for lavender so ended up getting this (and the corresponding DRAM brand bitters they use in it); the coffee was very tasty. (I came in the next day for the Aromatic Maple and that one was even better - the foam they put on the top was delicious). When we stopped in on Sunday morning, they had a donut shop popup setup on one of the tables - love the support of local businesses. There aren't many tables so if you want to sit, probably avoid going during busy hours. Great coffee and shop.

Yelp
Amazing place in Salida for coffee! Totally loved my cappuccino and the service was amazing as well. Some seating inside and on the street but limited. Definitely will be back!

Yelp
High-quality coffee in the back of a cute gift shop in downtown Salida! Great coffee bean options and freshly made syrups and milks.

Yelp
I was recommended this place by family that lives in town, I got a latte and it was definitely good, although not the best latte I've had in town. The barista was super kind, as I came in right as they opened. They have a bunch of neat things inside the store and also have ice cream which sounded amazing! Would definitely go back to try that, too!

Yelp
Stopped by for coffee just passing through the area and thought the shop was super neat. Service was friendly and helpful but my coffee was so bitter I could barely drink it. With the title of the drink being a dessert I expected something else. The servings were small compared to the price. Overall it's a cute local shop with oddities from the area and all over the US (even handmade perfumes id only seen in New Orleans) but I probably wouldn't go back for another drink.

Yelp
Imagine walking into a tiny town in the middle of Colorado and seeing vegan ice cream available for an affogato. My jaw dropped. I ordered it immediately and shopped around the mercantile while I waited. Howl has hand-picked some of the best knick knacks, clothing, and decor that I now want to own. My affogato was absolutely perfect. The ratio is spot on and I don't think I'll ever be the same. Also, I think I need to move to Salida.

Yelp
Love this shop! Best baristas around and such a friendly staff. The unique collection of items impresses me every time I go in -- there is truly something for everyone in this shop and they are always getting new items! Not to mention the best coffee in town and such a lovely place to hang out. Good coffee, good people and good tunes too -- 5 out of 5 always!

Yelp
Located this shop thru source which is an app that identifies quality coffee places so I was eager to try in salida a place with limited options, due to size. Ordered a mocha, no 2% just whole. The mocha was decent the flavor of cinnamon was overpowering and the menu didn't specify it would have cinnamon in it so that was a turn off for me. Besides the coffee this place has little nic naks and unless you're into the occult it's another turn off. No thanks to the abundance of tarot cards and astrology books. Was offended by the "spiritways". Just wanted some coffee not a palm reading.

Yelp
Nothing but the best of everything... Best coffee in Salida, reliable internet and desks if working is your thing, and insanely nice and accommodating staff!

Myka D.

Yelp
Such a cute store. Their products are made by small businesses and makes sure to highlight their queer and BIPOC creators. Their matcha is also one the the best in town. The girls who work there are so lovely, they all deserve raises. No seriously, please give them a raise.
google avatar

Maddy P.

Yelp
The best coffee shop I've ever been to. I had the best matcha latte I've ever had in my life here (matcha latte with macadamia nut milk). I'm obsessed, 100% adore this spot. There are so many incredible things to look at and buy! Love the diversity. Great service, great atmosphere. I never write reviews but I had to for this place. Creativity is off the charts here!

Chels R.

Yelp
Service was friendly. Fun shop to look around while they make your coffee. Seating is limited. Excited they also serve Dram products.

Cynthia B.

Yelp
Great little spot. I had a wonderful lavanilla cold brew, which just what I needed. Enjoyed the shop too. Stop by!

Yelp
Another vote for best coffee in town! (I'm fanatical about trying every coffee shop in the area.) We're locals and this has been our absolute favorite spot for 4+ years. Kimi and team are wonderful, friendly people who have created a beautiful, safe and inclusive space for the community and visitors alike. I especially love the careful curation of art, jewelry, literature, home goods and more by BIPOC creators, not easy to find in these rural parts. The specialty coffee drinks (coffee from Corvus Roasters in Denver) are handcrafted and consistently outstanding - we usually order a mocha with almond milk, and a dirty chai with oat milk. There are also a few community tables and chairs (+ outlets and WiFi) for hangout / working, and a bonus of 'ordering for here' is the beautiful ceramics the drinks are served in. I can't say enough good things about Howl so just visit already and find out for yourself!!

Yelp
My husband and I loved this spot. Easily the best cup of coffee in town and don't get me started on the ice cream...it's so good! When we visited, it was rainy and cold, so this was the perfect spot to warm up and enjoy a coffee. We sat for awhile reading and loved the atmosphere. The shop is very small, but the staff is friendly. The coffee is awesome. And there are lots of little trinkets to purchase. Highly recommend.

Elena W.

Yelp
Howl is memorable from the community and every participant's story that it supports just as much as the considerately chosen merchandise with each product's own story. I first fell in love with the taste of smooth and intentionally flavorful expresso here, especially when the drink follows authentic human interactions with the staff. The scent of the store combines perfumes and lotions, incense, coffee and Colorado mountain air in just the beautiful way where it is mirrors the uniqueness and welcome that I also find from being at Howl.

Greg A.

Yelp
Amazing shop! Friendly staff, Great espresso and vinyl albums. The perfect combination.

Hailey M.

Yelp
Such an awesome spot! So welcoming, and they have a beautiful assortment of gifts and home goods. Also, the best coffee in town!

Melissa A.

Yelp
Best coffee, loveliest people, fantastic service. Also, such a cool shop. By far my favorite spot in salida.

Justin G.

Yelp
One of the rudest baristas I've ever met. Had touch screen turned around that made it look like we had to order our own ice cream. She decided that instead of politely asking us to let her ring up the order, she would scold my wife in front of everybody. If we hadn't already finished putting in our order and paying for it, this place would never get my business. This is why small business is dying.
google avatar

Justin L.

Yelp
In town from Denver this place is so fun. The items besides coffee they sale is worth the stop. The coffee choices will make every coffee expert happy! Staff was very friendly and she answered our many questions.
google avatar

Ritu R.

Yelp
DELICIOUS COFFEE & cute store. Go in and have a warm/chilled beverage or ice cream and browse. Open late. Nice after a day of hiking in the dunes!
google avatar

William B.

Yelp
Great coffee, lovely ice cream, sometimes staff are a bit chilly. What creates five stars is the team's support of thought provoking, thought filled merchandise and their stance for EVERYONE, no matter what/who/how/whom. I am always thrilled to see the equality Howl presents to us all. Great job! Bill

Kate O.

Yelp
Great chai, great staff. The environment is aesthetically pleasing, and they have lots of things to shop for while you wait for your drink. This is a town favorite.

Yelp
Damn, Salida! I leave for just one second (okay, seven months) and you open THE RADDEST shop ever. Salida has always had a "cool factor" for me, but Howl just upped the coolness by, like, a lot. I stopped in on a Saturday morning for a much needed caffeine fix and was lucky enough to meet the owner, Kimi. She's the sort of gal who you meet and instantly want to be best friends--she's a boss lady and mama with incredible taste and a rad personality. Howl is located right off of the main drag (F street) and is super darling, even from the outside. It's part coffee shop and part shop-where-you-buy-gifts-for-your-cool-friends. The shop portion is perfectly curated with jewelry, books, vinyl records, crystals, outdoor gear, and more. I probably could've bought all of my holiday gifts (plus some stuff for myself) if I had no self control. I did pick up some records, which I should note were part of a very cool mix of genres and very well priced. There are a couple tables for sitting down and working while sipping on an awesome coffee drink. I *might* have had multiple spicy iced chais in one day at Howl--if coffee/tea isn't your thing, they also have toast and Colorado-made Rocky Mountain and Dram sodas. Howl also hosts some great local events (they had an ayurvedic self care workshop while I was in town)--follow their Facebook to learn about those!

E M.

Yelp
A lovely shop + cafe. I've stopped here on my way out of Denver and as a first stop on a long SW road trip. The atmosphere is relaxing, the chai is delicious, and the cashier (who I believe is the owner) is friendly, accommodating, & charming. I think I will buy a couple of things to show my support. If you are in Salida and are in need of some caffeine, this is the place you should stop.

Yelp
I love Howl!!! I first visited in January and have gone frequently since then. They are taking serious covid precautions and still creating a wonderful experience. They carry amazing cards, candles, books and much more from local brands and celebrate women and BIPOC. The coffee is awesome- I always go for the lavanilla cold brew. They also have a great selection of teas. I appreciate the owner speaking up on social justice issues as well. Thanks for such a wonderful shop experience time and time again!
google avatar

Brian W.

Yelp
They have excellent espresso, I got a cappuccino and my girlfriend got a maple latte, awesome selection of high quality items to look at while drinking your coffee.
google avatar

Iris S.

Yelp
Great little boutique and coffee shop. Perfect if you are looking for a place to get some work done in a chill environment. Lots of unique pieces to peruse through while you enjoy a fresh brew, you'll also hear some great tunes. Super friendly employees! Will definitely return next time we are passing through Chaffee County.
google avatar

Jimmy S.

Yelp
How do you describe home? Howl always feel like I've come home; friends, my favorite stuff, and even great things to eat and drink. I think it's an amazing reflection of the owners and the community they serve. Yep! We love it!
google avatar

Tory G.

Yelp
Terrific 13 degrees ice cream. Loved sundae special, coffee toffee and dark chocolate.

Sophie S.

Yelp
I love it! Cute things to buy and good coffee. Unfortunately, their mochas are have SO MUCH cinnamon that they're really terrible (I've tried it from multiple different baristas and they're all that way), but I'm still giving it 5 stars because the store is great, the workers are incredibly helpful, and their other types of coffee are good.

Abby S.

Yelp
Such a cool little store. I come every time I come to Salida! They also had a cold brew float which was the best, everyone should try it!
google avatar

Margarite D.

Yelp
Gorgeous store, stellar art, jewelry, modern pottery! Great Novo coffee too! A must-go place in Salida!
google avatar

Michaela D.

Yelp
I got a lavender vanilla iced latte for almost $5.50. A little steep considering it was pretty small, however it was very good. They sell unique products and intriguing ice cream flavors. I got a sample of the popular honey lavender ice cream and it was delicious! I probably wouldn't be a regular if I lived in town but it's a very cute spot to visit.
google avatar

Christen B.

Yelp
Another great Salida experience. Part coffee shop, part boutique. My chai was wonderful. Loved all the alternative milk options. My husband had maple bourbon ice cream that he shared was out of this world. I shopped around a bit and the sweet girl at the counter was so helpful. Even with all the hype and expectation, I loved this place more than anticipated.
google avatar

Christine D.

Yelp
We fell in love with Salida! When I go back I'm heading straight to Howl for another round of the best thing I've ever tasted. They took vegan honey lavender ice cream, poured espresso over it, topped it with homemade marshmallow cream, then took a torch to it for a toasted affect. I would show a picture but we ate it so fast because it was AMAZING!
google avatar

Terri C.

Yelp
Great concept. Beautifully curated collection of decor, jewelry, and boho trinkets. Will definitely stop in again the next time we pass thru Salida.
google avatar

Kathleen M.

Yelp
If you're a coffee lover and you find yourself in Salida, you must go to Howl Mercantile & Coffee. Kimi offers delicious Corvus pour over coffee, nitro iced coffee and refreshing Dram Apothecary blended iced teas!! In addition to the amazing beverages and toasts-- Howl sells beautiful, local and American-made jewelry, art, clothing, household items and cards (just to name a few)! Howl is also the perfect place to get some work done or meet a friend as they have beautiful tables to gather!
google avatar

Jason H.

Yelp
Sweet place ! Great drinks and even better hometown service. Pick up a coffee and your friends new favorite birthday gift :)

Annie J.

Yelp
Just walking into Howl enlivens all my senses! This place has a fresh, bright and pleasant feel to it. I really enjoy shopping at Howl as well as stopping by for a Chai, a Dram Apothecary beverage or a tea. I love all their jewelry and incense and that there's always new and unique things I can find here.

Rhea W.

Yelp
A store full of beautiful American made objects of jewelry, ceramics, textiles and more. I loved every minute of shopping there and left with many items. I felt great giving this shop and their vision my business. Highly recommended to anyone wanting artisan made products in a really beautiful place. Also, the coffee was fantastic! A new delicious stop for that alone!

Katie S.

Yelp
Loved!! The ice cream is delicious the perfect amount of lavender. My latte was good too. Enjoyed the espresso flavor. It was also the perfect pair with the sweet ice cream. The marshmallow topping is a must. It doesn't get all goopy from the cold ice cream, it stays soft and creamy and great!
google avatar

Anna R.

Yelp
great shop! great ice cream! perfect amount of Western feminism. loved the jewelry selection and the coffee gadgets.

Yelp
Howl Mercantile & Coffee drew me in immediately when I needed a spacious and mellow environment for remote media work. With roots in Seattle (craft coffee at its finest), Kimi brings a beautiful and divergent aesthetic to this art-oriented town of Salida. With a super modern shop, Kimi supports local artists around Colorado with everything from Topo Designs bags and hand-crafted jewelry to local artwork by photographers in Salida. A nice little vinyl record section that's all hand-picked! She brews local Corvus Coffee out of Denver, which makes this the only third-wave coffee shop in Salida. Howl is a perfect stop on your way to mountain bike, morning hike, or head up the mountain at Monarch in the winter months. Howl is consistent, personable and genuine. When considering your next cup of coffee, morning toast, or filling your home with beautiful things, you should certainly take a gander at what Howl has to offer!

Bonnie D.

Yelp
I love stopping in for an amazing cup of coffee AND Howl is my new "go to" for gift shopping! Kimi has an uncanny knack for style while staying true to her passion for artisan made products. Howl has something for everyone!
