Google
I was glad to find a restaurant with hubei cuisine because this is my hometown flavor. But my feelings for the dishes here were mixed. The food was authentic in the sense that they did taste a bit like what they should be. But in many other ways they were not authentic, or authentic enough. The hot dry noodles were not the right noodles and the fermented beans and turnips didn't quite taste like their authentic versions. Doupi looked exactly like what a doupi should be, but the taste only slightly resembles doupi. The lotus root soup was better than the hot dry noodles and doupi, but still mediocre. As for oudai, I guess they did their best, it's just the oudai was not as tender. The beer duck was a bit too salty but otherwise good.

I had a wonderful experience at Hubei Restaurant. The hostess was incredibly warm-hearted, making me feel right at home from the moment I walked in. The cuisine was authentically delicious, offering a true taste of Hubei's culinary heritage. The dishes were well-prepared and bursting with flavor. Overall, I had a great time and would highly recommend this restaurant to locals looking for an authentic dining experience. I'll definitely be returning!

We've been here several times already and this is now our go-to restaurant for takeout food. The food is always good quality, fresh, and hot even after delivery several miles away. Everything we have tried on the menu is excellent. If you're not sure what to order, the cumin steak, lotus root, and Wuhan Hot/Cold Noodles are all good choices. Also the 汤圆 is not on the menu but is 👌👌👌👌 The restaurant itself is open and welcoming. It gets busy during lunch but we have never had to wait for seating. Highly recommend.

Google
So far so good. Due to the closure of my favorite restaurant nearby, I have to find my new favorite Sichuan place. So far, Hubei restaurant is proving to be the one. The food is tasty, at least the Sichuan dishes that I pick. Time will tell if they can live to the standards set by the other restaurant that closed recently.

Google
The restaurant is very nice and clean however the service was very disappointing. We were sat down by a older woman who looked at us and asked us ice water and hot tea? But than never brought hot tea. We asked her what was popular and she stated a dish that was close to the Mongolian beef we had chosen but double the price, we kindly said no thank you. Mongolian beef was the first dish that was presented to us. The meat was extremely tender and delicious but the serving was depressing. Dan Dan noodles- simple and flavorful but very light. Not what I was expecting but it was yummy. Fried rice- nothing to Brag Sweet and sour pork- THE STAR DISH! This sauce is bold and thriving! It's honestly the dish that gave my pallet the most flavor. All in all I do believe that there is many other dishes that are bursting with flavors and I might have to give them one more try. Unfortunately the customer service is sad and the servings are depressing.

真宗湖北武汉风味,强力推荐。 Genuine Hubei Wuhan Dishes! I came from my hometown Wuhan, today I tasted Wuhan Hot Dry Noodles, Bean skins, Lotus Root Ribs Soup, and many other home town flavors that I miss so much. Thank for bringing my hometown flavors to my life here in US.

Fresh food, excellent taste, lovely hosts. We enjoyed every bit of it. Definitely coming again. Thank you for the recommendation on dishes Elizabeth! - Wuhan hot noodles - spicy boiled lamb - dry cooked chicken

Google
The food was really good and the restaurant owner and server were so kind!! We got recommended a lot of Hubei dishes: crayfish, eggplant and century egg, wuhan hot dry noodles, and more! All of it was so good! Would definitely recommend this place, especially if you are looking for authentic tasting Hubei cuisine.

Yelp
I came here for the first time after my normal go to Chinese restaurant wouldn't even pretend to accommodate my order whatsoever. I was driving down el Camino and remembered there was always a Chinese restaurant in this location. There were three people working there in the front and they were not only nice people but all seemed like genuinely good people. I've never had their type of Chinese food before so I ordered somethings more commonly known. The prices were good for the portion size for what I ordered. Somethings are cheaper than other nearby restaurants while some are more. I was satisfied with the quality and flavors of the food that we bought. The way they took care of me, I'll be back to support them and to try more of their food. I hope this place stays in business for a long time to come. Thank you so much for your patience and kindness!

Yelp
Literally the best restaurant meal I've had in a long time!! Even the mixed veggie dish I ordered without much expectation I really enjoyed! Soy milk in both sweet and salty versions! Will definitely be back for the hot dry noodles especially. I also got the cumin lamb dish and everything I got I enjoyed! Nothing missed the mark and I'm excited to try more dishes.

Yelp
Always love Hubei restaurant. Their service is very good and you can tell that the owner is very passionate about the food from her home town. The food is delicious. A favorite will be the Chinese pancakes, donuts, dandan noodles, and double cooked tofu. The ambiance is fun.

Yelp
Came here with my in-laws who are from Hubei province, and had the best meal of our trip to the Bay Area! The owner of the restaurant greeted us and helped us understand the menu. We ended up ordering a bunch of different traditional Hubei dishes, including re gan mian, doupi, and a delicious soup/stew stuffed with fish and meat cakes. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted extremely authentic. Would highly recommend!

Yelp
The owner (Nina?) came from Hubei and she was super friendly. She recommended a few signature Hubei dishes and they were delicious. We really liked the spicy fish head and the sticky rice dish. Will definitely come back to try more.

Yelp
Absolutely the most amazing flavors! We had the spicy dumplings, honey walnut shrimp, orange chicken. It was all absolutely delicious.

Yelp
Wasn't sure what to expect as I've never had Hubei food before but holy smokes I'm hooked! Prices were reasonable, owners were kind, and food was flavorful! Will be dragging my friends and family here again :-) Here's what we ordered: Seaweed with Spareribs Soup (4.5/5): this instantly comforts my soul. There's generous amounts of seaweed and spareribs, perfect for sharing. Sweet and Sour Fish Fillet (6/5): usually I don't like fish because of bones but this was boneless and addicting. The outside was coated in sweet and sour sauce, but not overly so that the sweet and sour flavors penetrated my nose and taste buds. It had the perfect crunch and the fish was soft. Must-get!! Wuhan Bean Skin (4.25/5): love a sticky rice dish to balance out the protein! Outside is tofu bean skin and inside is stuffed with sticky rice.

Yelp
This was a very good mom-and-pop restaurant! Our order was ready for pick up within 15 minutes. We got the Eggplant Pinenut Sweet and Sour Fish, Szechuan Eggplant, and Wuhan Hot and Dry Noodles. All of these dishes were easily 10/10. The fish was very delicate, remained crispy by the time we were home, and the sauce was not too overwhelming. It paired very well with the fish and satisfied a craving I never knew I had. The dry noodles had a strong nutty aroma. It was not too salty and was so rich in sesame flavor. It wasn't too greasy and they give a generous portion. It was really addicting! Finally, I was quite surprised by the Szechuan Eggplant. It was everything I wanted in this dish- they truly nailed the flavor. The eggplant remained a bright purple color, and it paired well with the woodear mushrooms. The cashier was very friendly and quick. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, and I hope to be back.

Yelp
Hubei Restaurant was my brother n'law's choice to celebrate his birthday dinner. My sister made reservations for our large group. We were welcomed warmly by the staff and owners (I believe). Restaurant was tidy and decorated quite nice. My brother n'law's good friends ordered all the food, and there was a lot of food! Unfortunately, I did not know the names of anything I ate. Some entrees I was not too crazy about. Others were good. A couple of the choices I really liked and would love to eat again. My favorite was a soup. I think it was the pickled fish filet soup. Tasted like no other soup I've eaten at a Chinese restaurant. Loved it! Overall, we all had a fun time. Majority of our party loved the food. Most importantly, the birthday boy was very happy with our dinner at Hubei Restaurant!

Yelp
Came in for late lunch. Interestingly, they are open continuously all day. Had the following dishes: -W1. Wuhan Hot Noodles: just like mamma used to make (if I was from Wuhan), nice chew to noodles, evenly and thinly coated with sesame paste. This is a must order! -46. Stir-fried bacon with dried tofu: tofu is supposed to be a special restaurant made bean curd. Curd is little tough but nice chew/texture. The bacon add a smokeiness that is balanced with the Large Green Onion (大葱, Dàcōng). This is also a must have. The flavor combo is surprisingly nice, subtle but still has a punch. -Crawfish: little spicy, nicely cooked. Real enjoyable to eat. Nice that they give plastic gloves and a trash bowl to peel the tails off the crawfish. Just wish they were shell-less. -Fish balls & fish cakes & meatballs platter: served as a soup, has some green veggies in there too. This is a good, savory, filling dish that makes you satisfied. Not a lot of flavor, just the main ingredients and that is all needed to make this an enjoyable dish. Service was awesome. Very helpful, polite and sweet. The one owner, a lady, was serving us. Ambiance is nice! Place was clean and well decorated. Had some traditional Chinese items on wall and big wall mural of famous Wuhan places. Bathrooms pretty good too. Overall a very nice visit. We really like Hubei food but too bad it's far from us. We'll make time to stop by again when in the area. Will recommend to friends.

Yelp
My server patiently explained the Wuhan-style dishes to me, which I appreciated. The dumplings were very good and the dry noodles were unique and also surprisingly inexpensive. I will certainly be back when I'm hungry in the area again.

Yelp
I was born in Wuhan, Hubei, and both my parents were raised there and went to college there. When I found out this restaurant existed, I knew I had to bring my mom here. She was pleasantly surprised, enjoyed the food (we all did!), and became WeChat bff's with the owner. RESERVATIONS Made by phone a few weeks in advance for a group of 6, on a Saturday at 6pm. It probably wasn't necessary; they weren't too busy, but did have a couple other large groups. THE COST $136.31 total including tax tip. Very reasonable for 4 adults and 2 toddlers, plus leftovers. THE SERVICE Very friendly. I'm sure it didnt' hurt that my mom and the owner realized they grew up blocks from each other. She even sent us home with an extra dish for free after she found out it was my mom's birthday! THE FOOD 54. Hunan Style Beef ($21.95) - 4 stars We were very impressed how tender the meat was. This is also legit spicy! H2. Steamed Spareribs ($16.95) - 4 stars Another classic Wuhan dish! My mom makes this all the time but I have never had it at a restaurant, so seeing it on a menu was a little mindblowing to me. This was up to par to my mom's cooking, and that's saying a lot! H7. East Lake Eggplant Pine Nuts Fish ($19.95) - 3.5 stars Nice breading and crunch. H3. Ha Kuo Pan Shoots Fried Chinese Bacon ($18.95) - 3 stars Fine, but just not my favorite dish generally. I don't love the bamboo texture and think there are better uses for bacon! W1. Wuhan Hot Noodles ($21.90) - 3.5 stars A hometown favorite! This was good overall, but a little different from the classic street noodle you can get on any corner in Wuhan. The noodles they use are thicker and softer, the sauce a little thinner.

Yelp
Hubei Restaurant is one of the few places in the Bay Area serving the food of Wuhan and the surrounding Hubei province in China. We started with a few Wuhan breakfast staples including Wuhan Hot Noodles, a bowl of chewy noodles in a savory sesame sauce (similar to dan dan noodles), topped with chopped pickled vegetables and scallions; and the Wuhan Bean Skin, a parcel of sticky rice seasoned with fatty pork and pickled vegetables and wrapped in a chewy fried bean skin. Another fascinating dish was the Hanyang Pearl Balls, which were little meatballs made with ground pork, coated in sticky rice, which had a slightly fermented flavor. But my favorite dishes were the "Beer Duck," made of chunks of bone-in duck cooked with bamboo and red peppers in a deep, savory, mildly-spicy sauce; and the East Lake Eggplant Pine Nuts Fish, a fillet of fish expertly scored, battered, and fried, such that the fish fanned out into a bunch of crispy morsels. The eggplant-shaped fillet was then topped with a red sweet and sour sauce and sprinkled with pine nuts (despite its name, the dish contained no eggplant). The sticky red sauce coated the batter, making it slightly gooey yet still crunchy, and the pine nuts added a nice earthiness to the dish. Overall, everything we had here was delicious, and the regional Hubei dishes were definitely worth ordering! The dining room was also nicely decorated, and the service was friendly and efficient.

Yelp
Went back with my parents and dined in and had absolutely wonderful experience! Staff were friendly and happy to offer recommendations. We tried some wuhan specialities that I had never seen on a menu before, and they were delicious! Food came out quickly, and they gave us free green bean dessert soup at the end.

Yelp
The restaurant is across the street from the El Rancho Inn. My first impressions is a clean and beautiful space with Chinese decor. I was warmly welcomed and had the tastiest Kung Pao Chicken ever! The chef really takes the time not only ti cook, but to prepare the ingredients. I have not seen each type of ingredient so finely prepared, and Kung Pao chicken has quite many, from diced chicken to all the vegetables that make the dish. If you are coming this way, I highly recommend this restaurant! If transiting at SFO airport again, I would do the same, and try the Hubei specials. The whole experience is like being invited home for a meal: delicious, heartwarming! Thank you!

Ritch G.

Yelp
Just awful, worst Chinese food I've had in ages. Hot dry wuhan noodles were bitter. Spicy fish filet not good and not spicy (we weren't asked about spice level and we like spicy, which is why we ordered it duh, although judging from the tasteless chili sauce on the table, it wouldn't have helped much). Dan dan noodle was watery and flavorless, with no resemblance to actual dan dan noodles. Every dish was a dud. Service was inattentive. We were there mid-afternoon. Perhaps someone different is working there at a busier time of day, who is capable of cooking better food, but I'm unlikely to risk it.

Susan T.

Yelp
Not a lot of Hubei food in the US so was excited to find this place! The bean skin is a great appetizer and tastes exactly like what I had in Hubei. Other dishes are great too (we've been here twice and had the cumin beef today). The owner, who's from Wuhan, is super friendly too.

Yelp
Familiar ingredients in familiar and unfamiliar combinations. The ratings say that their cuisine is four stars and I would agree. That being said, it wouldn't take too much, in my opinion to raise it up to five stars. The restaurant is not huge. The parking is almost adequate (shared as part of a strip mall). We stepped in and were seated at a large table as there were going to be nine of us. It took us a long time to figure out what we wanted because 1/2 of our group hadn't arrived yet. We took so long that another group of nine stepped in. It appeared that they might be regulars as they were greeted loudly and then we were asked to move to a larger table so they could have ours. That was a bit odd and disconcerting but whatever. So many restaurants wouldn't have seated us without the entire party being there anyway. The disadvantage to the larger table was that the lazy susan was a bit higher. The advantage was that we could line up all our dishes along the edge of the lazy susan and all the adults could reach the food. The youngsters not so much. Some of the "standard items" included: Green Onion Pancakes - 5 - right amount of green onions, seasoning and texture. Pork Dumplings - 3 - by themselves, not impressed. But dumped into the Spicy Boiled Beef, absolutely hit the spot. Shanghai Steamed Pork Bun - 3 - small in size; I got one; didn't appear to have a hole in it but wasn't much soup. flavor was okay. Shanghai Chow Mein - 5 - pretty good flavor; lots of textures; Golden Prawns - 5 - Prawns and Pumpkin all battered with Salted Egg Powder. Some places make this dish really greasy, not here! Lamb with Cumin - 4 - this dish always tastes "dry" to me for some reason. I like the flavor; texture could be improved. Then the less familiar dishes: Red Noodles Nest - 2 - this dish didn't do much for us. diced sweet potatoes battered and deep fried like a Japanese Corn Fritter. Somewhat of an odd texture with an okay flavor. Wuhan Hot Noodles - 3 - didn't care much for this one either; looked okay but noodles could have used another minute of cook time and what we think was a ground sesame seed butter was too dry. More may have improved the dish by making the noodles less gummy. Spicy Boiled Beef - 5 - also available with Lamb. The sauce was great on rice. just enough heat to make one sweat but not so much that you would spontaneously combust. Wuhan Bean Skin - 5 - had a small amount of chopped meat and some sticky rice. very much made me think of Chinese Sticky Rice Stuffed Fried Chicken. Ka Kuo Pan Shoots with Fried Chinese Bacon - 4 - was okay. Hankou Lotus Root - 4 - was interesting. have to try it again to decide if I like it or not. Maoshi Braised Pork - 3 - Chinese dishes are much better WITHOUT Broccoli. I love me some American Broccoli and Cauliflower but in Chinese Food, would much rather be served Taiwanese Cauliflower or Chinese Broccoli (also known as Gai Lan). The pork itself and the sauce were okay. Steamed Rice - 1 - NO CHINESE RESTAURANT should ever serve rice that is so dry that it doesn't even absorb sauces. The Spicy Boiled Beef had a sauce that was screaming for some nice hot fluffy rice to soak up all the wonderful spices but alas, the rice just sat like a lump in my stomach. In general, I like the restaurant and their food. They have many dishes that need exploration. It would be helpful if their menus were more descriptive of the ingredients and spices. It might be helpful if I could read Chinese but I can't. Names such as Wuhan Hot Noodles; Wuhan Bean Skin; Wuhan Cold Noodles (yes, THAT Wuhan) are simply not descriptive enough of what you'll get. Service was adequate. $230 including tax and tip isn't outrageously expensive but it would have been nice to have more than hard candy presented for desert. Tapioca, Red Bean Soup, Sesame Balls or even cut-up Oranges.

Yelp
We ordered Wuhan hot noodles. Wuhan bean skin and our favorite East Lake Eggplant Pine Nut Fish. The noodles mixed with sesame sauce. It wasn't that tasty and too sweet. The bean skin filling was sticky rice with small chuck of meat. Kind of stuffy. The fish was the best especially the sweet & sour sauce and it was crispy. Loved it. Their menu has a lot of variety dishes to choose. We'll return to try other dishes. Service was good and the lady owner was nice. We got small bowl of green bean dessert on the house at the end of our meal. Totally worth to try.

Yelp
Our absolute favorite was the W1. Wuhan Hot Noodles. They have a great sesame / peanut flavor and are not too spicy. The H3. Hankou Pan Shoots Fried Chinese Bacon tasted very authentic, but it came with a ton of bacon, bamboo shoots and celery. My boyfriend doesn't like celery or bacon, so it was a bit dissapointing for him. In general, I recommend ordering from the Hubei part of the menu, which is where the authentic stuff is. We also enjoyed the C5. Kung Pao Chicken, 89. Stir-Fried Rice Cakes, Family Style, S11. Braised Seafood With Tofu but it wasn't super special.

Jeffrey H.

Yelp
GREAT FOOD! Great service! Amazing food, unique flavors. A must try for Hu Bei food in the Bay Area.

Yelp
Last dinner here spent $58 for shrimp, rice cakes. Regrettably because I really wanted to like this place. Came in the cook and waitress was sleeping due to slow business. Listened to their complain in Chinese how bad the inflation is killing them. Food was bland poor quality and regretful quality
google avatar

John Z.

Yelp
Authentic Wuhan foods. Recommend the fried sweet potato pancakes (红苕面窝) It can be more crispy although. The bean egg wrapper (豆皮)is also famous in Wuhan and is a must. Wuhan hot noddle (热干面)seems a little bit different from what I had in Wuhan. But it's still very good and close to the original Wuhan style. We ordered the salt bean milk and it was tasted a little bit bitter. We asked the waitress and the owner why it tasted that way. They had no idea, but offered us the sweet bean milk instead.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice and clean. we ordered 3 dishes, all of them taste good ,real Hubei food, we love it. Will come back, little pricey
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered the Wuhan cold noodles and boiled spicy fish fillet. Both very delicious and flavorful. The cold noodles is similar to Dan Dan noodles with its peanut taste so be advised if you have a nut allergy.

Yelp
food was excellent! Service was meant for kings and the ambiance was very old china. super good and so disappointed that i live so far that i cant come here anytime that i want to.

Yelp
Stopped by to try this Chinese regional cuisine of Hubei, located in central China. Capital is the city of Wuhan. Starting with the Wuhan Specials: W1 Hot Noodle $10.95. Fairly simple noodle dish with a sesame paste soy sauce, minced meat and green onions. I found it innocuous but my kids didn't love it. W2 Wuhan Bean Skin $10.95. Not fully translated dish because it's actually a type of mildly seasoned sticky rice wrapped with a pan fried bean curd skin aka soy or tofu skin. It's actually our favorite dish and uniquely different with the chew of the rice and the edges of the outer bean curd. Definitely worth trying. 80. Eggplant in Szechuan sauce $13.95. Tasty, saucy, savory but oily. Good to pair with the fish above. H1. Beer Ducks $21.95. So this was such a strangely named dish that I had to order it. And the fact that almost every table had it too. This is duck braised in beer with red and green bell peppers. Good flavor, soy saucy but with a bit of that malty flavor on the back note. Duck meat was minimal. More like duck neck bits but glad I tried it once. Overall a unique offering that seemed pretty authentic especially when looking around the tables. This is a basic restaurant. Not fancy. Just focused on food.

Yelp
Came today with a friend right when they opened. The owner I think was maybe eating, oops. I've never really had Hubei cuisine before but my friend was excited and I like Chinese food, so hurrah. They had plenty of tables, given that we were both early and it's covid. My friend asked for some recommendations. The owner (I assume, her photo is on the window holding a dish) recommended the noodles. When my friend mentioned not particularly enjoying the noodles, the owner offered up the "tofu skin", listed on the menu as Wuhan Bean skin. We weren't sure what to expect, but wow it was maybe my favorite. It's actually basically a zongzi / glutinous rice pocket made with tofu skin instead bamboo leaves. The tofu skin was creamy soft on the inside and had the thinnest tiniest crispy layer on the outside. The flavors of the rice were excellent too- there were pieces of pickled bamboo and pork in it, and wow do I have to come back maybe just to eat that. We shouldn't have ordered rice lol. We also ordered Hanyang rice balls, which were pretty good, more or less what I expected. We got the songzi yu (I think it's the "east lake eggplant pine nuts fish" dish? But I didn't see/taste eggplant): classically sweet, deep fried fish and very yummy. I think we also ordered "shredded pork with water bamboo shoots", a very light dish to balance out all the rest of our heavy foods. All of them were excellent. The tofu skin rice dish was standout. I need to come back for this.

Yelp
A very quiet little place. Friendly service from a nice lady who clearly cares about the restaurant and seemed meticulous about detail and the overall cleanliness and appearance of the restaurant. The food was a nice change of pace from other restaurants. The fish was skillfully executed and was delicious. I enjoyed the cumin ribs.

Yelp
Summary: Overcooked and over-seasoned Chinese Details: * I don't give out one stars often, but this was easily the worst Chinese food I've had to date (anywhere, not just the Bay): we actually tossed most of it * We might have just ordered the wrong dishes, but 4 out of 4 is a pretty high miss rate, especially when they're listed under their specialties * Wuhan hot noodles were over-cooked/-fried and terribly dry * Beer duck was also overcooked, with a laughably small serving size (probably a quarter of a duck, if I had to guess) * Hot and sour lotus roots should have been renamed as (way too) sweet and sour lotus roots * Wuhan bean skins were also too sweet, and soggy to boot * The high price point on top of the largely inedible and/or sadly portioned food just added insult to injury, at almost $80 after tax and tip

Yelp
I haven't had a lot of food from this part of china and I thought it was pretty interesting. We got a cold noodle (good, kinda normal sesame paste based), the hot dry noodle (kinda similar but hot lol), this steamed pork sparerib thing (interesting, kinda hot very soft), this fried bean skin rice thing (needs more of the meat filling) and these rice covered meatballs (probably my favorite thing). Would be interested in trying some of their other regional dishes.

Yelp
Very authentic Wuhan cuisine with reasonable price! I always stop by here when visiting that area. The specialty, pine nuts fish is a must try!

Yelp
COVID The restaurant seemed nicer than what it was 3 years ago with red table cloth and disposable paper plates and chopsticks. Service was friendly and both the waitress and host could speak mandarin and Cantonese. We ordered all local Wuhan cuisines such as the hot noodle, which is thick dry noodle mixed in with Chinese salty pickles and sesame dressing. It's ok, good enough dressing flavors, but a bit boring as there's not much other ingredients going into it. We also tried Wuhan tofu skin which is a thin layer of tofu stuffed with chopped pork belly meat and sticky rice and wrapped like a pocket. The dish is not as big as I imagined and it tasted a bit plain for me. But I can see it's a test of finger skills to wrap so much sticky rice inside tofu skin without breaking it. The noodle nest is basically savory fried donut with green onions inside the dough. Not bad but the normal long fried donut (you tiao) seemed more tasty. This is a Wuhan local breakfast item, but it's available here all day long. The beer duck is a spicy dish. It's not as big as I'd like but the duck pieces are soft. It comes with bell peppers and bamboo shoots. I can't taste any beer though. The Hanyang rice ball came the last as its freshly made. It's basically steamed meat ball with sticky rice in the outside. It's quite tasty inside out. Overall we found all these interesting dishes that we never had. Hubby said would come back to try more new dishes. I also enjoyed trying new Chinese dishes.

Yelp
Great food here . I find this is a place all the dishes are delicious. We had three dishes late at night . The service was fast and the dishes were hot. Must try A lot of favorite dishes as well

Yelp
Nostalgia. Most authentic Wuhan food here. I've been living in America for 3 years and did not go back to Wuhan. Tonight Hubei Restaurant makes me feel like I'm back home. Really enjoy the food. One of the best highlights in SF.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow Hubei restaurant is just amazing. You got a chance to taste what Wuhan people eat daily. If you know me, I always give out the best/authentic Chinese restaurant on yelp even tho I ain't ins food blogger. And I have to tell you Hubei is a must go! And stay focus on ordering/trying everything that said Hubei special dishes. I promise you all are delicious. We love the fried lotus, hubei hot noodles, hubei donuts etc. it's a carbohydrate heaven. Come on and try everything.

Yelp
Went back again today for takeout and it was still delicious!!! All the food is made with great care and really loved the flavors.

Yelp
Haven't come across a Hubei restaurant with as well-rounded offerings in the states. We sampled all sorts of dishes like re gan mian (wuhan dry noodles), dou pi (pan fried rice wrapped in egg), ou jia (fried lotus with minced pork), (fen zheng rou) cous cous with pork ribs and plenty of other ones. The meal reminded me to dining in wuhan. Pretty impressed with their selection. We wrapped up the meal with one of my favorites: sweet rice soup with sesame rice balls. Got to chat with the boss and learned they've been hit really hard, as with most restaurants, but thankfully to some kind hearted customers who buy gift cards to their restaurant every month to help keep the business afloat. He also told me they have mian wuo (fried savory donuts)! I'll have to come back just for those. It's great this place is so close to our home, so we'll be coming back more often.

Yelp
Hubei specialties are authentic. Would recommend to order Wuhan Bean Skin. Service is nice.

Yelp
They used to be one of my favs back when I lived in Millbrae. Today I ordered via Weee (a note to the owners, in case you'd like to trace what went wrong) and was very disappointed. Specifically, the Wuhan Bean Skin had almost all glutinous rice in it with very little meat & veggie. Very hard to chew or swallow. Nothing like what I had (many times!) when dining in.

Yelp
Backstory: After biking 100 miles in a day, ya boi was hungry. I saw that this place was going to close in half an hour so I called in asking if I could place an order and arrive to dine in just before closing. I basically just asked the owner for recommendations over the phone and ordered 8 dishes for 3 people. The owner was a bit skeptical that we'd be able to finish, but little did she know... The food was great and seemed authentic, though to be fair this was my first time having Hu Bei food (usually go for Sichuan, Shanghainese or Hunan). What really set this place apart though was the service though, which is super rare for a Chinese place. The owner was very patient in helping me order over the phone, introduced the dishes to us and even gave us a couple freebies(!) when she saw how hongry the bois were. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Many people have heard of Hunan but we don't hear too much about their northern neighbor Hubei.I am Chinese yet many of the dishes were a new experience for me. East Lake Eggplant Pine Nut Fish - Fish was fried yet tender, glazed with a orange sauce then sprinkled with pine nuts.  No eggplant anywhere.  The fish was carved to look like a pine cone so I think it is suppose to look like something named eggplant pine cone.  Beer Duck - It had a dark sauce over it and looked like beef cubes but I think it was chicken.  It was good but different. Steamed Spare Ribs - The owner said she had steamed it for X long hours and really praised over it.  I liked it. Spicy Beef Ribs - Not too hot, but lots of spices like cumin and spices you can see.  It was OK. Wuhan Bean Curd Skin - Looks like an egg omelette stuffed with rice and meat inside.  It was OK. Wuhan Hot Noodles - Thick egg noodles with peanut sauce and chili.  It was OK. ShangHai Steamed Pork Bun - XLB was good. Complimentary slightly sweet mung bean soup for dessert.

Yelp
Been sitting on this review for awhile, let me break down what was sampled and how everything faired. H1 - Beer Ducks -darkish reddish brown sauce with generous portions of cut duck, pairs well with the white rice, order this dish, it is flavorful, slightly salty, duck is tender and not oily, this is their signature dish H2 - East Lake Eggplant with pine nuts deep fried fish - literally deep fried fish that would be similar to sweet and sour pork but with fish, not quite the sweet and sour traditional dish, again it is different, I recommend a try it did not disappoint H9 - Wuchang Fried Crispy Tripe - more vegetables then tripe on this dish, surprisingly flavorful, just wish they would add more tripe 95 - steamed rice - ultimate filler for any asian dishes, pairs with literally everything. came here with few coworkers, would be happy to come back and sample more of their items. food **** price $$ service **** friendly ambiance ****

Yelp
Nice to have a regional Chinese restaurant in the neighborhood. Food is okay not to fancy. Just regional cooking.

Yelp
Authentic Chinese restaurant features Hu Bei cuisine. Serve a good variety of traditional HuBei dishes like Wu Han noodle, bean skin, lotus root soup... hard to find elsewhere, taste wonderful. Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Maybe I should have ordered something more traditional, but a dish shouldn't be on the menu if it isn't at least ok. Out of over 100 items, I ordered the fairly simple Kung Pao Chicken, which the server recommended. Big mistake. The salt quotient was over the top. Did they drop a salt block in it? Even worse, the unroasted, unfried peanuts had gone rancid. There was no taste of vinegar in the sauce. No dectectable flavors of ginger or garlic. Only overwhelming salt and sugar. The dish was unacceptable and overpriced at $18.95. I guess the steamed rice was ok. The server was very nice.

Yelp
Very rare authentic Hubei food. Recommend 豆皮 and 莲藕汤. Service speed was ok,quite typical compared to other Chinese restaurants. Waiter was friendly.

Yelp
Came here to get my kids some orange chicken and they loved it! Best orange chicken they've ever had. Fresh and crisp. Nice staff as well!
