Where to Find Easter Sunday Meals in Southern California - Eater LA

"Order Huckleberry’s Easter brunch or dinner menu before March 31 via the restaurant’s website, and pickup curbside on April 4. On the menu are options like a Niman Ranch ham quiche, blueberry cornmeal cake, or an organic herb-roasted chicken. Also on the menu is an Easter egg cookie decorating kit." - Mona Holmes

If you're looking for too much goodness off the beaten path you find the right spot. You will leave here pleasantly plump and Happy. We ordered the crab cakes Benedict with a side of Beignets. All was SO delicious.

The service was great. Very cute restaurant. I would recommend any of the huckleberry punches. Large servings great for breakfast , and don't forget your Huckleberry muffin!

HUCKLEBERRY'S offers the ambience of a rustic roadhouse. Generous portions of "home cooked" meals and large drinks are presented with Southern charm. Huckleberry's "aged decor" provides comfortable booth seating. The tableware comes wrapped in a rolled paper napkins. Condiments include ketchup, salt, pepper, several hot sauces, from a small table stand, built of water pipe, hangs a roll of paper towels. Drinks are served in Mason jars. Tawnya, our welcoming server, was familiar with the menu and provided several suggestions. I ordered a modified vegetable stir-fry. My wife ordered a plain waffle. My stir-fry was delivered in a very hot, cast iron skillet, with a potholder wrapped around its handle. A wood hotplate protected the table. The vegetable mix included red and green peppers, tomatoes. mushrooms, and onions. As I'm a vegan, the fried egg was left off. The serving is quite large, a bit salty, but quite good. My wife's plain waffle, hot off the iron, was presented with a mound of whipped butter. Jam was also provided. STUFF: Everything is ADA compatible. Parking is free in their large lot. Freeway access is easy. Huckleberry's first opened in Modesto California in 2008. The growing chain has about 20 locations.

Yummy American breakfast! I loved the strawberry lemonade. Everything we had was savory and flavorful. I definitely reccomend the Cajun Eggs Benedict and the French toast!!

Google
All in all pretty good. Service was fantastic, and the food was good. We didn't even wind up waiting very long for a table. I liked the Mississippi scramble and the stuffed french toast was a nice little treat.

Google
We have given a four not to our server Alison, but because it took so long to get our food (45-50 min) from ordering to receiving. Our server, Alison was great! Today is a Thursday; last week was Fourth of July. Nice & clean environment; bathroom well stocked too. 😀

Eaten here quite a few times. Always have good service and good food. Highly recommend Hucks if you're passing through. Shout out to Karen, my server multiple times.

Google
What a great place! We came here because we wanted some chicken and waffles and really enjoyed everything. They had some of the best fried green tomatoes I've ever had. Plus Shauna our server was super sweet. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Never thought a place called "Huckleberry's" would have great tasting crepes. I took my daughter here because she basically only likes crepes or cereal for breakfast. And according to google they have crepes. When we arrived we were promptly helped and we placed a to-go order. As we sat we enjoyed the look and feel of this place. It has an outdoorsy vibe and the employees are very happy and pleasant. A couple employees asked us if we needed help but we just informed the we were waiting on a to-go order. When my daughter tried her crepe she was in heaven. She insisted we all try her "awesome" crepe. Next time I am in the area I want to sit and eat here and give this place a real try.

Yelp
We've visited this breakfast spot five or six times over the years, and it hasn't let us down yet. It's a pretty popular place, especially on Sundays, so be ready for a bit of a wait. Our party of four had to wait around 25 minutes, which wasn't too bad considering the crowd. They have a nice waiting area where we ended up chatting with some other folks and even made a couple of new friends. This time around, I wasn't super hungry, so I just ordered a side of fried okra and a cup of water. I told our server, Alison, that I'm a thirsty guy, and she delivered with a big mason jar of water--perfect! My wife had a skillet scramble, but it was just okay. The texture was a little off, like maybe there weren't enough eggs, or they were spread too thin. One of our friends ordered the steak and eggs, and that came out great--nice and tender. All the hashbrowns were cooked perfectly across the board. Our other guest was craving a traditional eggs Benedict (ham, egg, and hollandaise on an English muffin), but they don't have that exact version on the menu. They do offer several other types of Benedicts, but when she asked, Alison made sure the kitchen whipped up exactly what we wanted. That kind of service goes a long way. Speaking of Alison, she was fantastic--laughing at my dad jokes and even coming back with a few of her own. It's always nice to have a server who can joke around and make you feel welcome. She wore a smile the whole time and really made the meal enjoyable. Cleanliness is another big deal for me, and this place passes with flying colors. I tend to notice things most people might overlook, but I couldn't find anything to complain about here. Kudos to the staff and management for keeping the restaurant in great shape. Overall, it's been a solid spot for us, and we'll definitely keep coming back.

Yelp
So much food. It might've been a better plan to order for the kids and feed off their leftovers. Kids eat like birds. Families all flock here so no fear of being judged. Everyone's loud, messy, tired. This was a great option if you're tired of Denny's or the food from Legoland.

Yelp
Just ate perhaps the best chicken and waffles I've ever had, as well as delicious red velvet pancakes. Lily was an amazing server and the other servers all greeted us at the door and woshed us a great day on our way out. Amazing service, great food, and great atmosphere. Going on my list of favorites!

Yelp
On a bustling Sunday, My husband and I went to this place for breakfast. 3 days before Christmas, so it was busy, we had one of the best meals we have had on the central coast. The service was great, food was hot and at our table about 15 minutes after we ordered. Everything was delicious and flavorful. I got the chicken fried steak and my husband got the chicken and waffles. The breading on both meats was perfectly crispy and the waffles were thick and crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. It would have been slightly better if it wasn't as loud due to the high traffic but we didn't mind because everything else made up for it. We highly recommend and will make the 25 minute drive to return asap.

Yelp
My burnt pancakes that were passed off for crepes were horrible, and were served on a broken plate. My lukewarm coffee was brought out in a mug with lipstick still on it. We finished as much of the meal we could before the biscuit we ordered was brought out, and not once did the waitress check on us or ask about refills.

Rick A.

Yelp
I had the BEST omelette here today. The Riverboat was cooked PERFECTLY! Not overcooked like other places. The service was amazing too. Shauna was so great! Friendly, kind, and very attentive. Got me a refill on my iced tea, checked if I liked the food which of course I did. The whole experience was fabulous! I will be back!!!!

Yelp
The food here was great and our server Tanya was an absolute delight - she was so kind and helpful and really made the whole experience. I really enjoyed the Banana Foster French Toast and felt like prices were reasonable for the amount of food we got. The restaurant was a little loud/busy, and the hostess wasn't very friendly but overall we had a good experience.

Yelp
Southern atmosphere. A nice change from the beach. Good food great staff. Biscuits and gravy are great.

Yelp
Tried out this spot on our way up the coast to Oregon. We found this spot since it was also close to the Oceano state park and we were so glad we had their food. Service was 10 and food was 10. Great portions and my wife liked their hot sauce so much she bought a bottle. Definitely a place to recommend to anyone that enjoys good food and service !

Yelp
I went to the Huckleberry's - Pismo Beach because I was so disappointed in the chicken fried steak in Santa Maria that I went to the Pismo Beach location. The steak is fried to perfection and, the service is better there. I got the chicken fried steak in the Santa Maria location and it was so greasy that I had to use a whole roll of paper towels to soak up the grease. I wrote a review and no one contacted me so I went to the tried-and-true location in Pismo Beach.

Lilah L.

Yelp
Lily! You are an amazing server! You are attentive, charismatic, you bring light and joy to each table. You answered all the questions I had and made sure we had everything we needed at our table! Lily is an example of how all servers should be! Thank you!
google avatar

Matt M.

Yelp
The food you get is mainly quantity not quality. The chicken fried steak was hugh and tasty, but the hash browns were fried until they were pure Krispy critters. The scrambled eggs were fine. The waitress seemed preoccupied.
google avatar

Roger V.

Yelp
Great service and great food. Only reason it didn't get 5 stars, the wife wanted a hot vanilla latte but the machine for "hot" lattes was not working. The food was delicious and came out quickly. Our server was very attentive and helpful. On the sensory level I would give it a 6 somewhat loud but the privacy in the booths were great. The lighting is low and not too bright to be a problem. We'll definitely be back to try a hot vanilla latte!
google avatar

Yelp
Chicken and waffles is my favorite but all the food here is great! Staff is friendly and Emily had awesome service. Family atmosphere is good for everyone. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Okay brunch and breakfast! A lot better options in the area. I came here for breakfast on Saturday and it was decent. Quick in and out but not many healthy options. Service was good and a lot older crowd eating here. I think you can definitely find better food and places in the area.
google avatar

Eli C.

Yelp
Loved it! And will be back. It was packed when I went which made sense for a Saturday afternoon. But it was worth the wait. The service was great! Our waitress was so kind and gave recommendations. The restaurant was so beautiful inside. The beignets are a must! It came with 4 different jelly's to add. In general- the food was delicious!
google avatar

Rachel R.

Yelp
Stopped here on an Easter Sunday so there was no wait and service was very quick. Cute little ambiance and great service. Vanessa was my server and she was excellent. The stuffed French toast was good. I added the warm banana Foster's topping and it had banana and Carmel. I would have liked a little more flavor for the fried green tomatoes but this is coming from someone who doesn't like fried food, so that may not be a fair assessment. The spicy ranch was great and complimented the tomato well. This was my first time getting to try this place as the wait is normally very long.

Yelp
Great breakfast and awesome service Full plates unable to finish will definitely stop by again

Yelp
I did not know what to expect with this place but first and second visit has been great so far. Got off work at 7 am and was starving, it so happens this place was open that early so we gave it a try. FOOD: We ordered fried okra and the New Orleans skillet. The portions were huge. Those two alone filled us up (2 person) and still took half of each order home! It was cooked well and seasoned well. The fried okra was super crispy! The skillet dish had plenty of shrimp and it was absolutely delicious. SERVICE: The first visit was during Labor Day and the server was by herself with like 5 tables already when we came in but she still made it work. Her name was Rhonda if I remembered correctly and girl applause for you! You handled that so well. She was still very attentive and did not make us feel rushed even though it was chaotic for her lol. Definitely great service for me, at least for the times I went. AMBIANCE: Bayou themed spot. Clean, not muggy or smelly interior. Comfy seatings. The music can be loud at times but not too bad where you can't hear the people in your table. The tables are well lit but some parts are slightly dimmed but not a problem. Plenty of space and tables and an all around good environment. Located right next to the Pismo Outlets. There are plenty of parking. Super accessible from the freeway. I highly recommend this spot or at least try it once. Worth what you pay for. Totally affordable. Great service. Is it authentic Southern cooking? Absolutely not but a decent take to the California twist on a Southern cooking. Nonetheless, the food was great and so were the portions. The iced caramel macchiato is delicious! Definitely try it out with your breakfast or brunch. Will definitely keep coming back and try other things from the menu.

Yelp
The place reminds of a Western movies. the service was great and so the people that works there.

Yelp
We were looking for a sit down brunch spot in Pismo Beach so decided to visit Huckleberry's! For a party of 12 on a Sunday, it was around a 45 min wait. It was consistently busy even as we walked out. The service was good. I had split an order of the Mardi Gras Beignets and a cup of fruit. I really enjoyed the Mardi Gras beignets. The beignets were huge but hollow. They serve it with strawberry jam, peaches, huckleberry & vanilla custard. My favs were the peaches and vanilla custard!
google avatar

Jason B.

Yelp
A wonderful experience. From friendly staff across the board (they always smile and call you "hon"), to great atmosphere, incredible food with great portions, and the prices can't be beat. I had the 1/2 ribeye breakfast plate, and couldn't have been more pleased. Plus there's a great EV charging station right across the street! Perfect place to grab a coffee and breakfast while you charge. Give them a try, and try their breakfast blueberry muffin!
google avatar

Meldies H.

Yelp
Yes and yes and yes try there pancakes and they have the best crab Benedict delicious
google avatar

Charlene B.

Yelp
Kid friendly decent portions and good amount of choices on menu. Service was good. Coffee just OK. All good tasty especially the fried green tomatoes. Recommend for breakfast. It is located right by the outlet mall, right off the freeway so super convenient
google avatar

Dino P.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my very large breakfast burrito. Covered with chili. Very busy on a Saturday at 11am. I would normally give my first time visit a 4 star, but Tanya our server made it a definite 5 star. Enjoyed my experience.
google avatar

Nita T.

Yelp
Basically a Denny's priced for tourists with very mediocre food. However, the dishes are consistent and as expected, the service is quick and the location convenient, making it a favorite for folks passing through.
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
Whenever I'm in the Pismo area, I always hit up Huckleberry's for at least one breakfast. They're busy, but once you get seated, service is fast and the coffee is hot! They have an extensive comfort-food breakfast menu, so come hungry. On my last trip I did the flapjacks and a side of bacon and there was no way I could finish everything. My wife usually has an omelette or the biscuit with gravy. Good stop for breakfast. I've never eaten there for lunch or dinner, so I can't comment on their food later in the day.
google avatar

Martha M.

Yelp
Great Delicious Louisiana style breakfast , Group of 6. Friendly waitress good service, good portions. Will definitely come back again

Yelp
After living in the Carolinas for several years, I know what southern cooking is, and this restaurant is the most southern country food I've ever had in California! If you're not used to a heavy breakfast that is packed with butter and a biscuit that might be as big as a fist, you might think this place offers unhealthy food but if you're looking for a typical southern breakfast, this place is it! My breakfast was so delicious, buttery and huge! I ordered the chicken fried steak (which is not chicken, by the way, for those who have never had southern food) breakfast. I loved the bayou theme and the big tree in the middle of the restaurant. It has so much character.
google avatar

Emily D.

Yelp
Great food near the Pismo outlet mall. Fun atmosphere that has something to offer for everyone. This place is popular especially on a weekend but you won't be disappointed. We loved the chicken and Waffles and stuffed French toast. The service was top notch and the food came out quickly. If you are looking for a fun drink dry the strawberry lemonade.
google avatar

Joshua B.

Yelp
Great huge menu and breakfast until closing. The Monte cristo was tasty and the fried green tomato Benedict was tasty and unique. This was the first time I was offered hash browns options and didn't realize they offer that make sure everyone offers that to their guests I have never been offered before and the menu only says potatoes. Bloody Mary very tasty too!
google avatar

Greg S.

Yelp
Definitely a locals favorite! The place was packed, granted it was late-morning on Saturday; however, we were promptly seated. Service was great, food was great and I simply very highly recommend! Bring your appetite, relax and imbibe with a mimosa, or two (if you're of this persuasion). You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Joyanne B.

Yelp
Basically like a Denny's the food was subpar. Omelette was burnt, potatoes were mushy and hard at the same time and cold. The toast was completely burnt. They are huckleberries, but yet they don't serve huckleberry jam with your breakfast. You get regular Smuckers jam which didn't make sense about half the meal
google avatar

Rachel N.

Yelp
First off this place gives me vibes like a restaurant from Disney! They play bayou kinda music , there's large fake trees as if you're in a swamp area , service is good! Well I can only speak for the times I have Cindy as our server ! She is awesome and sweet ! Foods. I love their quiche florentine ! But don't leave without trying the fried green tomatoes ! The sauce it comes with is soo good! They got lots of different juices to mix with your mimosas too ! Place gets busy , but wait is worth it ! Give this place a shot and take a walk/shop across the street at the outlets! It's a win , win !

Cristina S.

Yelp
Super yummy food! We ordered 4 meals: ribeye steak, crepes, fish & chips, and a steak melt. Everything was great. Lots of food per serving! Our server, Karen, was awesome!! My son spilled an entire soda on the table and she quickly moved us to an entirely new table! Way better than a few swipes with a rag and still having a sticky table. She gave us new drinks and everything. Entire staff was great : we got A1 sauce and Splenda packets from 2 different employees who were nearby. Team effort! Great experience for our out of town visit.
google avatar

Mebot B.

Yelp
Extremely loud place and our server was not very attentive, throwing the food down and running off. The food itself is delicious!
google avatar

Robbie B.

Yelp
First time at a huckleberries. Pretty fast service. Beingets were wonderful, pancakes were great.

Ron B.

Yelp
Just came out of Huckleberry's. First time and last time. My girlfriend asked for an omelet with cheddar cheese, and when they brought it out it was an omelet all right, and then they sprinkled cold cheddar cheese on the top and called it done. I asked for a biscuit with butter, she said no problem. So I got the biscuit and I started buttering it and I realized, this doesn't really look like butter. So the next time she came to our table I asked her if it was real butter and she said no it's not, it's margarine. I asked if they had butter and she said no! So if you're interested in food like this, and being lied to about what you're eating, and you're okay with something that close to plastic, this would be your place.
google avatar

Kathy R.

Yelp
The food was very good. We were in Pismo Beach for 3 days. Two of those mornings we had breakfast at Huckleberry's. The food was delicious and the service was friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend you try it out.
google avatar

Shrewd Shopper I.

Yelp
Shelby was our server and was AMAZING! Our first time here and she made great recommendations. The food was delicious and the service fantastic. Such an enjoyable experience!! Love the decor.

Judy P.

Yelp
Used to come often and would recommend it to anyone but the last few times have been disappointing omelette tasted like fake eggs hash browns cold one little demi cup of syrup what happened to syrup on the table! will not go back again
google avatar

Matthew N.

Yelp
Completely baffled at the wonderful experience of this place. We walked in thinking it was going to be a suburban Cracker Barrel, and let me tell you, nothing like it. Every item we had, food and drink, had a distinct taste that was amazing. The chicken and waffles are out of this world. The BLOODY MARY is amazing! Also nice to see waiters/waitresses stoked about their job, excited to help you find the best of the pickings. Wonderful food, wonderful service, and great experience.
google avatar

Christine F.

Yelp
Not the best service here. Water wasn't very attentive to our needs. Dropped off our food without a word said to us - felt cold. The beignets look good on t free menu but can definitely be skipped. Other food items our table shared were also mediocre, leaving us a little less than satisfied.
google avatar

Chantel P.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast with the family. Amazing service and food. Pretty packed on a Sunday morning but worth the wait. Bananas foster French toast was the best I've ever had. Will definitely be coming back here!

Jackie M.

Yelp
Wanted a great place to eat breakfast and this definitely did not disappoint. From the peach tea down to the chicken fried steak on biscuits & gravy, everything was delicious. Would definitely recommend you check this out if you are near or staying in Pismo beach!
google avatar

Benson W.

Yelp
Charging our car across the street so came here for breakfast. We weren't expecting much but it was a good sign the parking lot was full. We expected a typical American breakfast menu but were pleasantly surprised by the Cajun/creole influence. We had a party of 4 with a Cajun omelette, catfish entree, Mississippi platter, and chicken and waffles. All were good and huge portions. Service was very attentive and friendly. This is the first Huckleberry's we had been in so started looking for other locations and will now definitely try one closer to us in the Bay Area.
google avatar

Jen S.

Yelp
Food for the most part is pretty good. I've only had one bad meal. I get my usual, biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs. I recently had them elsewhere and gained an appreciation for this dish at Huckleberry's! The biscuits must be soft, not dry, the gravy with good flavor and the eggs nice and fluffy. The service and wait time for food is a little slow but they are always super busy so this may be why. I'd rather see a line out the door than a place that is empty. This place inside is pretty interesting and you do feel like you are transported to the bayou...or Knotts Berry Farm. Haha! I crack myself up. Anyways, go here and skip Dennys. It's much better.
google avatar

Zoe T.

Yelp
This restaurant is so cute with its bayou theme and huge cozy family booths! We had a wonderful breakfast. One of the best breakfasts out we had in a while. Tanya was wonderful, helpful, and friendly. She gave excellent recommendations and information. Our drinks were kept full and all our needs were anticipated. The person at the table who had the Tom's scramble said it was the best chicken fried steak he's ever had! A+! 10/10 recommend for a brunch if your in Pismo area!
