"There’s always a crowd of locals hanging out at the bar and eating upscale pub food at Hudson House. The best thing here is the lamb bolognese that comes with harissa yogurt and roasted yams instead of pasta that will make you forget all about how much you love gluten. They often bring everything out all at once, so you might want to order in stages. photo credit: Hudson House" - Brett Keating

Hudson House has always been my go to if I wanted a more elevated environment for a drink. I have always heard such great reviews on their dinner menu and finally was able to experience it for myself this New Years Eve. I made a reservation a week in advance and was very excited to spend my evening there. I am a local Nyack resident, and it was raining that evening , they had a coat check. I cannot say enough great things about the food and the service we received that evening. The food was a 15/10 along with the service and hospitality. That made our evening so special and I cannot wait to come back.

Google
Excellent! Everything was amazing! We started off with the Caesar salad, cheese platter, and prawn special, each one so delicious. Our dinner entrees of the Sea Bass and Lamb chops were heavenly. We finished it off with Key Lime Pie, the Banana Cake special, and the Sticky Toffee Pudding cake which were all scrumptious. The Hudson House is now my favorite restaurant! Our server Alexis was awesome too! Very friendly and professional. We will be back!

Google
Delicious foods; we ordered the Fresh oysters, the pacchieri with shrimps and the duck! It was truly well prepared, so truly thanks to the great chef and also the attention from our waitress Eleanore! Highly recommended, a nice choice if you drive by to Nyack.

We were visiting nearby and really just wanted a nice meal. We were well ubderdressrd and felt bad about it. We were directed to speak with Matt about a table for two, to which he was able to accommodate. It was clear that people should make reservations here. We snagged maybe one of two available tables in the whole place, likely a cancelation. I didn't pull out my phone and take pictures of the food like I normally would. Take my word for it, this up scale fine dining fit for any occasion. The service was excellent, everyone was so kind. We received repeated visits from Matt, who makes all the desserts in house. We wanted dessert, but just didn't have room. They dropped off a tiny carrot cake sample anyway. The quality and also the gesture meant everything. Excellent experience overall and we really appreciate them making space for us.

Google
The Hudson House, ah, what an otherworldly experience. Few establishments have brought upon me such a delightful experience and as such it is with great pleasure and satisfaction that I must sing to the heavens; “Please dine at this magnificent restaurant!” From the friendly and genuinely courteous staff to the moonlit ambience of the old rustic building, smiles were abound and the melding of conversations polymerized into a both heralding of angels, metaphorical of course. Great Meal, great Staff, great atmosphere. Please show them some love.

Went for a special seating on Thanksgiving and I can’t wait to get back there. The Turkey and the Short Rib plates were well portioned and delish! Pumpkin Crème Brulee was out of this world! Michael and his entire crew did a great job! 👏

Google
My family and I visited this restaurant for the first time over the weekend, and we were absolutely impressed! From the moment we walked in, the staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive, especially with my two young daughters, which made us feel right at home. The atmosphere is charming, with beautiful paintings and photographs adding to the cozy ambiance. The food was outstanding, and the drinks were equally amazing. It's not often that we find a place that hits all the marks, but this restaurant certainly did. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
We had such a great dinner here last night. The restaurant is super cozy with a small bar right at the front, making it feel both inviting and intimate. The tables are spaced out so well that you're never on top of other guests, which I really appreciated. On top of that, the playlist was on point, adding to the relaxed but stylish atmosphere. The service was on point the whole night, making the experience even better. We kicked things off with bone marrow for me and grilled Spanish octopus plus the chef's special carrot parsnip soup for my date. Everything was delicious. The bone marrow was rich and buttery, exactly how it should be. For the entrée, I had the chef's special lamb chops, and they were fantastic. Perfectly cooked, well-seasoned, and so tender. My date ordered the grilled hanger steak, which looked just as good. Judging by how quickly it disappeared, I'd say it was a hit. Dessert was a little all over the place in the best way. I had the sticky toffee pudding cake, which I really liked. We also tried the crack pie, but I wasn't a huge fan of that one. Not bad, just not for me. Then there was a mystery dessert. I tried looking it up, but nothing on the menu matched what we had. Whatever it was, it was really good, so I'm guessing it was another chef's special. Solid meal all around. Great food, great service, and definitely a spot I would come back to.

Yelp
Exquisite! Hudson House has been here for a very long time and has a few great things going for it. Parking is available throughout Nyack. It's free after 7 PM. The entrance takes you into an unassuming bar that felt very casual. We were greeted with friendly faces and plenty of welcomes. The owner reserved a nice table for us on our anniversary. What stood out most for me here was the food and definitely the service. They really have standards here. A coaster fell on the floor? We'll get you another. Not sure what wine you want? We'll bring you some samples? Dissatisfied with anything and they'll make it right. I saw this at a neighborhood table when they weren't too happy with their bone marrow app. The port old fashioned was tasty and nicely crafted. My wife's paloma was perfectly made to order, not too sweet. The octopus appetizer was tender and I liked the jalapeno flavoring with it. After a while, it felt like too many potatoes in it though. Both the duck entree and Berkshire pork chop were enjoyed. For me, it was the best pork chop I've ever had in my life. Outstanding and a must try if you like chops. Mind you, a Berkshire chop isn't just an ordinary pork chop. (Google it...) And, they cooked it perfectly! Crisp outside and super thick juicy meat inside. Very flavorful too. Desserts are homemade here and the chef knows what he's doing. The banana cream pie had a thin layer of crust, bit of chocolate and wonderful creamy filling. The whipped cream on top was homemade and not too sweet. It was all very balanced. The toffee was tasty too, though a little overwhelmingly sweet. Overall, the service and standards here are superb. You'll really enjoy yourself. That said, our meal probably cost double what we typically spend elsewhere. For me though, on the occasion, it was really worth it and I would return. Ps. Cash and credit prices are clearly marked.

Yelp
I have nothing but wonderful things to say about The Hudson House. My husband and I came for drinks and dinner and everything was phenomenal.

Brandi M.

Yelp
Wow just wow! I am not one to easily impress this much but a week later and we are still talking not only about the great meal, drinks and service but how the staff made us truly feel like we were in a hallmark Christmas movie ! We were passing through this area on our holiday travels and after traffic we decide to stop for the night nearby. Based on the reviews and menu being very vegetarian friendly with what looked like a great variety and unique dishes, we decided to call for reservations just 30 minutes out on a Thursday night . The gentleman on the phone answered enthusiastically and was very friendly and said they had a spot for two at the bar. When we arrived the same friendly and most welcoming atmosphere was given by a lady that greeted us and the bar tender as well From start to finish this was hands down one of the best dining experience we have had in a long time. We had the gnuddi and Caesar as appetizers Excellent ! I had the gnocchi My husband had the ribeye special by suggestion from a gentleman siting next to him at the bar. Drinks were well crafted and the level of care and detail showed in every aspect of our meal and overall experience. We hope to visit again on our travels and may just make an over night trip for a very quaint, but remarkable dining experience.

Yelp
Our meal was delicious and presented so nicely! Even though it was busy our waitress was kind and attentive. I love the decor of the restaurant has a very chic feel to it.

Krystal G.

Yelp
The paccheri is amazing here. the food and the drinks taste so good I have never had any better pasta than this 10/10 definitely would recommend this place to eat at. - my 12 old daughters review! As soon we entered, we received the warmest welcome. From the minute we got here the service was top tier. The food though, SO full of flavor. All the way from Arizona, we will absolutely be returning!

Michal R.

Yelp
Met friends for dinner. The owner seated us and informed us of the restaurant history. Food, drinks and service were excellent. Our server explained the specials, provided excellent service and super friendly. Highly recommend. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
When you travel, you seek to find outstanding restaurants. Sometimes you win, other times, you don't. The Hudson House is a great find, a winner at every turn! From our initial greeting by the owner, Matt, to the great staff who didn't miss a beat, to the most critical part, the food, there wasn't a moment of regret. We started with a couple of tables shares. We had cheese plate with 3 cheeses, homemade fig jam to die for, fresh thinly sliced honeycrisp apples, delicious grapes, and an oil-infused crustini. Perfect start, followed by the burrata and pumpkin seed salad with carmelized pears and sweet potato chunks. I didn't think it could get better after this. I tried the sweet potato and fennel soup, very warm and hearty on a cold night, and the taste was just as I hoped! A beet and farro salad with radishes hit the mark! My partner had a fresh halibut that was cooked to perfection, served on ramen noodles and baby bok choy, with an array of fresh mushrooms, with a gentle but flavorful broth, but not enough to be called soup. To me, one of the best fish dishes I've tasted in a long time. Our guests, the wedding couple, ordered duck breast confit, and hanger steak. The duck, one of her favorites, was tender, most, cooked properly and seasoned well. It was a hit with her and her mother. The hanger steak was the choice of the groom, a very picky eater. He couldn't stop reaching about how amazing it was! Sadly, we were so full, we couldn't eat dessert. All the desserts are homemade by the owner, and they sounded unbelievable. But I'll have to return another time to speak to them. Finally, ask to sit in the jail cell. The pictures tell only some of the story. It's a wine cellar, a hidden romantic getaway, a reprise of days long gone. Or have a seat at the bar with the locals. Or just come and see the beautiful tin ceiling and walls. No matter what you do here, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Great drinks- Excellent Food especially the Shrimp & Grits, Tuna Tartare, Black Bottom Banana Cream Pie. If you know the very famous bistro in NYC Raoul's then who should know that this spot housed Raoul's first restaurant in Nyack, NY also called Raoul's. The servers all seem like pros, not too many rookies in there. The vibe is chill, the ambiance is clean- one open room with small, quaint bar in front. The Owner, Matt Hudson, happens to be one of the nicest locals you'll meet. Hats off to him for running a successful business for so long.

Yelp
I had a great experience! The food was great & the service at the restaurant was lovely. My partner took me out here for my bday and I couldn't be happier. Nothing bad about this place. Def planning on coming back! (visited in march 2024)

Chand R.

Yelp
Food was delicioussssssss we had the cheese plate, gnudi, and spaghetti . Fantastic textures not too oily and the cocktails were perfect. Had a extra dirty martini and glass of Napa Cabernet. My wallet hurt but it was all worth it. I was happy.

Cynthia I.

Yelp
My partner and I visited Hudson House back in October for our anniversary and we had the best food, drinks, and service! Our waiter Greg was phenomenal! He was very attentive, friendly, and gave us shots on the house! He also offered to take our picture for us and even the picture came out great! Lol. The owner as well, was welcoming and down to earth. Months later, and we still talk about Hudson house and hope to return soon!

Harlan M.

Yelp
Absolutely first rate dining experience. Service, food, wine, bar... all exceed expectations whenever I visit. Don't miss out.

Heather H.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious. It definitely gets loud in the room since it can get really busy, however, the food is so great. I'd say maybe you can pass on the duck if you're picky with how your duck is prepared. Overall a great place !!

Gabby C.

Yelp
To start off I would like to say the staff were some of the friendliest we ever encountered. They had nice suggestions and did a great job making us feel home. The food (including in house made dessert) was amazing. Highly recommend the bone marrow or octopus appetizer and the hangar steak entree!

Sheila C.

Yelp
Absolutely Fantastic! This historic family owned restaurant (31 years) is outstanding. As soon as you walk in you're promptly greeted by a family member. The menu has a great variety of well prepared foods. On this Thanksgiving night there was a fixed priced 3 course dinner. The turkey was tender and flavorful. Great historic location that still includes the original "Drunk Tank Jail" that is now the wine cellar. A very cozy dining room with tin ceilings and a nice bar/lounge area. Easy on street parking

Daniel H.

Yelp
Went here for a friend's birthday. The place is cozy and welcoming. Service was superb, everyone was friendly and hyper attentive, without being overbearing. From drinks, to apps, to entrees, to dessert, there wasn't a single dish anyone didn't love. The octopus and bone marrow certainly stood out. I got the pork chop as an entree which was delicious. As fat as it was, it was still juicy and flavorful. Friends raved about the duck and the lamb special. Pasta dishes were also a big hit. We all shared one of each dessert. One was better than the next!

Massiel E.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. It never disappoints. Food is delicious and the service is over the top. You will see the owner and his daughter could be serving you. If you get Jose as a server, be ready for a great time, he is the best!

Yelp
Hosted a surprise private party upstairs for my wife's 50th. We had over 50 people. Skye and her team made this a really beautiful night. Everything was perfect and her DJ recommendation (DJ Rich) was phenomenal. The food, the service, the atmosphere were better than expected. All my guests were really happy and many are considering hosting special events here in the future. You're in really good hands with Skye and Matt Hudson. Bravo!

Dolores S.

Yelp
Lovely meal with branzino over ratatouille. A friend had dietary restrictions and they were very accommodating. Another friend enjoyed the steak with peppercorn sauce very much. It was busy but the servers were very nice and friendly, and the manager or owner visited our table too.

Natasha R.

Yelp
Amazing. The staff is wonderful, (especially Skye and Greg!) the food is incredible, and the restaurant itself is beautiful. We had a private dinner upstairs this past weekend and I cannot say enough good things. Appetizers - the oysters were fresh and delicious, the cheese plate abundant and with a nice assortment, the pumpkin seed burrata was out of this world. We had several different entrees- steaks, duck, the halibut special, short ribs, gnocchi to name a few. Everyone thought their dinner was the best one, there was no way to choose whose was better because they were all delicious. The desserts, if you have room, are fantastic. Again, we all thought ours was the best one, you cannot go wrong with any dessert you order. Many complements to Skye, Greg, Mr Hudson and the kitchen staff. We will definitely be back.

Wayne B.

Yelp
I had a business meeting for about 40 attendees. We had it in the upstairs dining room. It's a historic location, a busy business with a pleasant atmosphere. The service staff, led by Sky was very prompt and professional. My entree of tuna on a bed of guacamole was very refreshing and delish. I have heard many patrons compliment Hudson House and I'd agree that it would be a great place to visit

Lexie R.

Yelp
Very good! Had the hanger steak! Our waiter Israel was also great! Very pretty art was also here! Nice ambiance.

Liam O.

Yelp
Still great food and service. Probably our go to are the oysters and the hanger steak, and usually whatever the dessert special is that day.

Brian M.

Yelp
I was looking for a restaurant I haven't tried in Nyack and was going though Yelp to see what popped up. I know that due to COVID several restaurants I've been to up there unfortunately closed. It was a close to when they open at 5 pm so I called them to see if if they had any opening. I spoke with one of the owners Amy who said they could fit us in. Unfortunately when I arrived Amy had left for the day so I could not thank her. In reading the description from the business I was glad that it told a story and it seemed like a journey. The restaurant is located in the former village hall and jailhouse. The wine cellar is located in the old jailhouse which you can see and ask to walk into. The restaurant has outside dining on the street and a few outside tables in the back of the restaurant. There is a good amount of tables inside and by the time I left the palace was packed. This place was a great find! Everything from the food to the decor to the service was outstanding. We spoke to several people there who were extremely accommodating. Our waiter Gregg was awesome and took a great amount of pride in his work. He was genuinely friendly, introduced himself, asked our names and throughout the dinner addressed us by our names which makes the experience more personal. This was a nice touch that most people in sales fail to do. We had the Ahi Tuna Poke which was great! You could taste all the individual flavors. For dinner we had the roasted Scottish salmon which was served with curry flavored roasted cauliflower. Nice spin to make this dish from other restaurants. We also had the the DPNB spinach gnocchi pasta with tiger shrimp. Once again great dish and it was filling. They are know for their deserts as the chef makes his own and has specials as well. The one thing is everyone else says is to leave room for desert. We had the black bottom banana cream pie which I believe has been on the menu for the 31 years they're in business. We also had one of the special deserts which was like blueberry muffin with vanilla ice cream . Both were great. I would highly recommend them and it's great to see that almost all the reviews they have on Yelp Are very positive. The owners and staff deserve all the rewards running a business like this comes with.

Stacy C.

Yelp
Amazing!!! Food, service and Staff!!! ISREAL WAS ThE BEST!!!! Must try!! Thank you for a great evening!

Joe N.

Yelp
The Hudson family has truly created a special place to gather, dine, and feel welcomed in Nyack. The menu is thoughtfully designed, sourced, and cooked. The drinks are balanced and well-crafted. A Nyack experience to savor.

Frank U.

Yelp
Nice, cozy atmosphere. The service was friendly from the moment we walked in. Nice Nice bar to the Left when you walk in.. The food was fantastic, and both the bean and melon gazpacho soup were ver tasty. The flank steak and Cod fish special were prepared perfectly and excellent. A must go

Yelp
When you unexpectedly decide to enter this establishment for the very first time and are immediately treated like family then that says it all. Then on your way out the same gentleman that greeted you when you arrived escorts you outside and strikes up a conversation regarding your dining experience and you are astonished to find out that this is actually the owner! Mr Hudson has something special going on here and it starts with him. If you want to experience something very different then this is definitely the place. Amazing food, an incredible owner, and the beautiful ambiance creates the trifecta of experience everyone craves but rarely finds. After 33 years in existence I just found out.

Ashley C.

Yelp
I'm sooo full!! Found this place on Yelp while here in Nyack for work. The duck is the BEST I've ever had. Don't second guess this gem! Worth a trip back just to eat here!! Matt (owner) and all the staff were just amazing and the dessert- staggering. Did I mention how yummy everything and the drinks were?!

Pr V.

Yelp
Service was excellent and the food was very good! Staff were friendly and efficient. They checked in from time to time to see if we needed anything and gave us free items. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Marguerita D.

Yelp
The Hudson House provided an absolutely wonderful experience! The level of warmth, kindness and true hospitality really embraced us and has left a lasting impression! It was truly matched by the exceptional food - we had the octopus appetizer (I think the best I've ever had), the duck and the short ribs. Just exquisite food that satisfied the soul. Our server Greg was very attentive and professional while also being conversational and engaging. And we had to unfortunately forego dessert but they gave us a miraculous complimentary portion of Matt's sticky toffee pudding - truly delicious! We left full and happy and like we had just seen good friends. Thank you all - we will return!

Hannah S.

Yelp
We had the most incredible dinner at The Hudson House last night. I wish I had taken pictures but I was enjoying myself too much and forgot! First, making reservations is a must so definitely call ahead. We sat at the bar and met the awesome bartender Greg. He introduced us to the owner who took time to talk with us and give us some history of the restaurant. We started with the charcuterie board which came with 3 cheeses, grapes, apples, toasted baguette and fig jam. It was delicious- especially the fig jam! For dinner I had the shrimp pasta and my friend had the gnocchi. My dish was incredible. The portion was generous and it has plenty of shrimp. My friends gnocchi was delicious with butternut squash and sage brown butter. We were not planning on dessert- we were stuffed. But were convinced to get something because the owner hand bakes it all! We got the peanut butter pie and then were brought a sample to try of one of the most popular desserts. The whole experience was wonderful and the staff could not have been more hospitable and friendly. Definitely recommend!

Casey M.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite in Nyack. The food had good portions, and genuinely made to perfection. Desert options were curated for the perfect experience. Our waiter, Greg, was the epitome of positive service. The owner, Mr. Hudson, was welcoming and made us feel very comfortable. The aspects of building are unique and the ambience was fitting. We are definitely going to return. 10/10 would recommend.

Yevette M.

Yelp
Excellent dinner here tonight! Wonderful service and food. Upscale menu and cocktails, yet comfortable and cozy and loved learning about the history of the building. Ricotta gnudi was outstanding! Great pork chop and lamb chops. All in all great experience.

Betty L.

Yelp
Wonderful place for a lovely dinner! Good service and Delicious food... Will be returning soon!

Yelp
One of my top 5 meals of all time. The servers were very knowledgeable and attentive, the restaurant was very interesting. The food was the real star though , it was remarkable . Hanger steak was amazing and the lamb special was second to none. Desserts all home made, and incredible. The management and owners all thanked me for coming and seems to love their business and their customers. You can't have a bad meal here!

Brenda C.

Yelp
Wonderful place, romantic dining room, great food, Delicious cocktails! Owner Matt is charming and talented as well!

Yelp
Was recently traveling with friends in the area and trying to decide where to have a meal. Hudson House came up in conversation as 2 of us dined there decades ago. After a google search, saw they were still in business so decided to head there. A great location to view the Hudson River while dining. Thankfully, didn't need a reservation but did wait 15 minutes for a table to become available. Once seated, we were warmly greeted by Judy, our server. She was very attentive to our needs though not in an overbearing way. First was served the Hudson House traditional popovers with strawberry butter. Ours were excellent. My friends wanted to order a soup but split the serving. Judy was so accommodating by serving my friends their own servings without a plate sharing fee. Nice to know there's still a restaurant that doesn't look to monetize every option they can. Onto the mains. One of my friends had to send theirs back due to under cooking the protein. Another server took it right back to the kitchen and within 5 minutes it was returned cooked correctly. That's the only reason for the 4 stars otherwise the mains were excellent. Overall, this restaurant would be an excellent choice for anyone traveling to the area. The service was 5 star.

John F.

Yelp
The food is very good, and the service is good, but the busser acts like there's a plate shortage - looking to take your plate before you're done. The food, although cooked and seasoned well, is way overpriced, especially considering the location. If you sit outside, get an early reservation because the guys at Avispa, the Salvadoran market a few doors up the block, have a loud party on the sidewalk after closing, blasting music and talking trash. I'd look for another option.

Lauren H.

Yelp
Went here on a weekend trip and everything was really good. The oysters were really flavorful and the drinks were good too. Owner was very nice.

Karen Q.

Yelp
One of our favorite place to go to for date night or a special occasion. The service is impeccable and we have always felt cared for. Greeted at the door by very friendly, down-to-earth Mr Hudson. He is an awesome & creative pastry chef! We like to try his dessert specials. The servers are knowledgeable and the way they describe the menu is just so scrumptious. Each dish we have tried so far we're delightful. It is just the right amount of serving and quality--thumbs up! They pay attention to details, presentation and taste. And the desserts were oooohhh so wonderful! It truly makes the meal. A fabulous way to end the night. And they taste even better than they look! The place has a vibrant, positive feel while maintaining the fine dining experience. The Hudson House is certainly a gem of Nyack.

Linda P.

Yelp
I came here for my birthday we were a party of 6 adults 2 boys and 1 toddler. The staff was very welcoming especially the gentleman with a ponytail. They went above and beyond for us. Everything we ordered was very good. I ordered the tuna poke tartare very yummy. The chopped salad was very fresh, the shishito peppers were amazing. My brother loved the octopus so much he claimed it was the best he ever ordered. We ordered for dinner mostly steaks which were cooked to perfection and the taste was spot on. My sister had the duck which she liked. Our waitress was extremely attentive and friendly. The desserts were sooo good we order the banana pudding, toffee cake with ice cream, and a chocolate one. I really recommend this place it's beyond great service and food.
