NYC Italian Restaurant Maialino Is Opening in Manhattan | Eater NY

"A multifaceted, four-story pan-Asian cultural hub for dining and drinking is debuting in Midtown on Friday, November 21, at 56 East 41st Street, between Madison and Park avenues, from the team behind Taiwanese restaurant Gulp and returning cocktail bar 929. The first two floors open first: street level will host a new third location of Gulp and a new bistro, Traveler, which takes cues from Asian pop culture and dispenses vending machine cocktails; the second floor brings back 929 with its retro vibes and a Mandarin and Cantonese pop soundtrack. Chef Michael Hsu, who has worked at places like Sydney restaurant Quay, is overseeing all food, while beverage director Chaoyi Chen—who oversees the team’s Long Island City bar 56709 and co-founded Taipei’s Pawn Bar—leads drinks. Coming later is the third-floor cafe and retail shop Apt.Hue, pouring osmanthus oolong lattes and gardenia yunnan pour-overs." - Nadia Chaudhury

I was recommended this new place by a friend, pleasantly surprised. An Asian/Chinese oriented center, I only attended the bar 929, but would like to try their other floors in the future. The greeting staff was wonderful, really helpful and pleasant. The drinks were pretty good, the Tipsy Poet was apple forward, rich and creamy, while the Years and Years was strawberry themed with some smoked candy flavors mixed in. The menu design was quite cool, the music has the right vibe, and the decoration matched that as well. I would come back and try their food for sure.

honestly I am very impressed by this place. The drinks and the food were much better than I expected for a spot that just opened especially in the middle of Manhattan. Please get the pork over rice and the scallion pork pancake roll! You will not regret it and the vibes are absolutely immaculate.

As a Taiwanese person in the U.S., it cannot get better than this. Highly recommend getting the fried platter for their amazing popcorn chicken, and you cannot go wrong with any of their cocktails (I personally recommend the “Chiayi”). Our server was super attentive and the vibes were so fun. Would come back again!

Vibe and food was good, drinks were delicious. I've had better drunken chicken soup though

This space is a four-story cultural and creative hub aimed to be a home for Asian diaspora. Currently, it houses Gulp on the first floor (a Taiwanese restaurant) and 929 (a Canto/Mando-pop bar) on the second. In the coming months, they aim to open two more floors—one of which includes a spa. We visited 929 as it was late in the evening and got to try a variety of their drinks. My two favorites were definitely their Heirloom + Folklore and their Shanghai Summer Fling. However, everything was great. Loved the vibes in here and there were lots of different tables/booths to hang with friends.

I visited the second floor 929 tonight! Great vibes and music. Perfect for a date night. The drink menu is CD/album theme. Great unique drink and food!

Loved this place. The vibe is super chill, the food was tasty and the cocktails are so good like dangerously good. It’s one of those spots where you walk in and immediately feel like you made the right choice. The servers and staff are super friendly, the drinks came out fast, and everything just felt easy and fun.
