My friend and I arrived at Hue Restaurant around 7 PM on a Friday night, and wow -- it was bustling! Despite the crowd, we were seated surprisingly quickly, which already started things off on a good note.
For the appetizer, we went with the Banh Beo. If you've never had it, think delicate little rice cakes topped with shredded shrimp and a crispy touch of dried fish skin. It came with a side of fish sauce, and let me tell you -- that fish sauce was the MVP. Pour a little on top, and suddenly, every bite is a flavor-packed mini adventure.
For the main event, we had to go with the Bun Bo Hue -- I mean, it's literally in the name of the restaurant, so it felt like a must. The noodles were perfect, and the meat was fresh and tender. I do wish they gave just a little more beef, but what was there definitely hit the spot. The broth, however, felt slightly diluted. It wasn't bad by any means, but it could have used a touch more depth. Luckily, we had a secret weapon -- that leftover fish sauce from the Banh Beo! We poured it into the broth, and boom, problem solved. It brought everything together. Pro tip: squeeze that lime that comes with it right into the broth. It makes a world of difference. Honestly, I just throw in all the sides for maximum flavor.
All in all, Hue Restaurant has solid offerings and a friendly, fast-paced vibe. The Banh Beo was a standout, and while the Bun Bo Hue could use a bit more punch, it's nothing a little fish sauce and lime can't fix. I'd definitely come back to see if any of their other dishes pack a bigger flavor punch.
