"Headed up by former TV chef Charan Thipeung, this restaurant – whose name means ‘happy home’ – has been serving authentic Northern Thai food since 2011. Set in a Lanna house with a tree-lined garden, it’s a popular, wallet-friendly destination that offers hard-to-find traditional dishes alongside classic favourites. The uniquely flavoured spicy minced fish salad is highly recommended and if you’re unfamiliar with the cuisine, start with the excellent Northern appetiser sampler." - Michelin Inspector

Huen Muan Jai is one of the best places in Chiang Mai to experience truly authentic Northern Thai food. Their Sai Ua (Northern Thai sausage) is incredibly flavorful, perfectly spiced, and tastes so fresh. The fried pork belly is super crispy on the outside and tender inside — a must-try! The atmosphere feels local and cozy, making the meal even more enjoyable. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to taste real Northern Thai flavors. 👍

The food here is amazing if you like northern Thai cuisine - the food is not for the faint of heart but if you like well spiced, pungent curries with a hint of fermentation, this is totally for you. Like the thai culture, the food is just beautiful and multi-faceted and nuanced and this restaurant celebrates this with refinement and deftness. I would come back again!

This restaurant offers a fantastic, high-quality Northern Thai food experience. It clearly has a stellar reputation, as it is incredibly popular with both local people and domestic Thai travelers. I have been invited here twice by Thai friends from Bangkok, and both visits confirmed its excellence. Be aware that no reservations are permitted, and you should expect to wait around 30 minutes for a table, but the amazing food makes the delay completely worth the wait. If you're looking for real, traditional cuisine in a great setting, this is definitely a must-try spot!

Had high hopes and most of them were met! The vibes were fantastic and very serene. The service was quick and pleasant, and we only waited for about 25 minutes on a busy Saturday. :) Here is a list of what we had and our ratings: * Khao Soi (Northern Thai Curry Noodle Soup): 5/5 - A must-try! For me, only the version at Kin Khao in SF has been better. * Northern Platter: A must to start out strong! (Below are my Favorites) - Gaeng Hang Lay (Northern Thai Pork Belly Curry): 5/5– Reminded me of my father’s mutton preparation. - Nam Prik Ong (Thai Pork and Tomato Chili Dip): 4/5 - Sai Oua (Northern Thai Sausage): 4/5 * Khua Pak Chiang-da Sai Khai (Stir-fried Gymnema Vegetable with Egg): 4/5 - Worth a try. * Gaeng Khae Pla Duk (Spicy Vegetable Curry with Catfish): 2/5 - Sorry, I didn’t like this at all. We thought it was mostly flavorless and overwhelmingly fishy in taste. This was a great introduction to the world of Northern Thai food. Definitely recommend! 🙏

Delicious food that tastes just like home-cooked meals from mom’s kitchen! Authentic Northern Thai flavors — rich, comforting, and satisfying. The restaurant is spacious and welcoming, with reasonable prices. It can get a bit busy, so you might need to wait for a table, but it’s definitely worth it for the great food and local taste! No wonder they’ve been awarded a Michelin Star for five consecutive years!

Just A Lil Background . I’m An Award Winning Restauranteur in Florida~ Diehard Foodie That Lives In Bangkok & USA 50/50% No Secret I Love Northern Thai Food~ This Meal Was Absolutely Amazing ~ Aroi Mak Mak ~Michelin 2020-2025 🙏🏼🇹🇭🙏🏼 Chiang Mai Is A Destination That Must Be Visited (Our Favorite) Tucked away in a quiet alley, this wooden Lanna-style restaurant has been around for over a decade. It stands in a garden and has open-air and indoor tables, plus private pavilions. The menu showcases the gamut of Northern Thai cuisine, from fiery dips to herby soups. Two recommendations are the spicy galangal dip with steamed mushrooms for its sweetness and aroma, and the spicy vegetable soup with serpent-head fish: fragrant, earthy and perfectly balanced.

Must try! Will definitely come back for all the delicious dishes. The dishes are small so easier to try all the menu. The fish dish was unnecessary it was just normal steam fish with spicy paste on the side. But all other dishes I would order again. We ordered the pork curry a second round. The wait for 5 people was about 30mins. Make sure to go in and write your name and number of pax as soon as you arrive.

This restaurant, right in the heart of Chiang Mai, offers absolutely amazing food. The interior is beautifully designed, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The menu is inspired by the northern region of Thailand, and everything we tried was outstanding. We had several dishes, probably ten or more, and they were all delicious. I highly recommend the mixed platters, where you can try a variety of different items. The service is top-notch – the staff is incredibly friendly, attentive, and helpful, and they speak excellent English. I highly recommend visiting this place for anyone looking for great food in a beautiful setting. From the moment you walk in, it’s clear that this place is special!”
