Huen Muan Jai

"Headed up by former TV chef Charan Thipeung, this restaurant – whose name means ‘happy home’ – has been serving authentic Northern Thai food since 2011. Set in a Lanna house with a tree-lined garden, it’s a popular, wallet-friendly destination that offers hard-to-find traditional dishes alongside classic favourites. The uniquely flavoured spicy minced fish salad is highly recommended and if you’re unfamiliar with the cuisine, start with the excellent Northern appetiser sampler." - Michelin Inspector

This restaurant, right in the heart of Chiang Mai, offers absolutely amazing food. The interior is beautifully designed, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The menu is inspired by the northern region of Thailand, and everything we tried was outstanding. We had several dishes, probably ten or more, and they were all delicious. I highly recommend the mixed platters, where you can try a variety of different items. The service is top-notch – the staff is incredibly friendly, attentive, and helpful, and they speak excellent English. I highly recommend visiting this place for anyone looking for great food in a beautiful setting. From the moment you walk in, it’s clear that this place is special!”

This well-known Northern Thai restaurant is a favorite among tourists, but it’s not just about the hype—the food is genuinely delicious. I’ve tried several highly recommended places, but this one stands out as the best. Every dish I ordered was satisfying, with no disappointments. • Well-managed queue system with a waiting area, so no long-standing wait. • Convenient parking lot right across the street. • Comfortable restrooms. • Friendly and attentive staff who explain the menu well. One thing I love about this place is that the portion sizes are not too big, allowing you to try multiple dishes in one visit. This is perfect for those who want to explore a variety of flavors. The most surprising dish was "Chicken and Young Coconut Shoot Curry". I ordered it without much expectation, but it turned out to be amazing! The young coconut shoots were incredibly tender, and the soup had a rich, fragrant coconut aroma that made every spoonful delightful. If you’re looking for an authentic Northern Thai dining experience with great flavors and excellent service, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit. You won’t be disappointed! Authentic Northern-Thai food restaurant. Every dishes are delicious and the price is reasonable. They have been named in Michelin Guide for 6 straight years (2020-2025). Protocol 2025 : - After you arrive, go to waiting area and look for the queue book to put your name and number of people. - After you got table, they will call over the speaker so you can hear your name. You may wait at the 33 Cafe on the opposite side and you can hear the call too.

Outstanding North Thai cuisine restaurant in Chiang Mai. The service was attentive and kids friendly and the food was excellent, recommended to try the curry pork with sticky rice. What a joy and a discovery. I can only recommend it.

This Northern Thai restaurant offers authentic, traditional flavors that truly capture the essence of the region. It has been recognized with Michelin awards for several consecutive years — a testament to its consistent quality and excellence. Be prepared for a wait, as it’s quite popular and operates only during specific hours. Despite the wait, it’s well worth it. Overall, a fantastic dining experience and a must-visit spot when you’re in Chiang Mai!

Absolutely worth the 20-minute wait. A few local friends recommended this place, and after finally getting a chance to try it, I can see why it’s so popular. The food was genuinely fantastic—some of the most flavorful Northern Thai dishes I’ve had, with a depth that really reflects the regional style. Everything felt well-executed and true to its roots, with bold herbs and spices that reminded me why I love Northern Thai cuisine in the first place. Even though the place was busy, the service was calm, efficient, and friendly. Our server spoke English and even understood a bit of Chinese, which made communication easy. Dishes came out quickly, but I never felt rushed—it was a smooth experience from start to finish. The space has a cozy, traditional atmosphere that fits the food perfectly, and the bathrooms were clean, which is always appreciated. If you’re in the area and craving something honest and well-made, this spot is well worth your time.

Traditional northern Thai food for an affordable price. Nothing stunning if you’ve eaten Thai traditional food. Price of items are reasonable and relatively cheap. Nice spots for taking photos. Food came out really quick, the pork was tough and dry. It maybe Michelin guide but it’s definitely not something that would blow your mind.

Had a delightful dinner and enjoyed all the northern Thai dishes here. We came early around 6pm without reservations and able to get a table. Reservations recommended for group.
