Huen Muan Jai

"Headed up by former TV chef Charan Thipeung, this restaurant – whose name means ‘happy home’ – has been serving authentic Northern Thai food since 2011. Set in a Lanna house with a tree-lined garden, it’s a popular, wallet-friendly destination that offers hard-to-find traditional dishes alongside classic favourites. The uniquely flavoured spicy minced fish salad is highly recommended and if you’re unfamiliar with the cuisine, start with the excellent Northern appetiser sampler." - Michelin Inspector

A popular dining option for northern Thai food. Lots of tourists, widely acclaimed by Michelin. Food tastes ok and you'll get to try classic northern Thai dishes in one meal. Food portion is quite small. Need to book in advance if you want to try!

A tourist trap. Very average food. Not worth the Michelin recommendation hype. See from my photos that they couldn’t even get the basics right (the rice noodles had been precooked and had been left out so long that they had clumped together)

Huen Muan Jai is a Michelin-awarded restaurant specializing in authentic Northern Thai cuisine. Located on Ratchaphruek Alley in Chiang Mai, this charming eatery offers a variety of delicious dishes, such as Kaeng Hang Le (Northern-style pork curry), Poo Ong (crab roe dip), and Kai Jeow Khai Mot Daeng (red ant egg omelet). Due to its popularity, expect a long queue during peak hours—often around 1–2 hours—but the wait is well worth it. With its rich flavors, cozy atmosphere, and reasonable prices, Huen Muan Jai is a must-visit for food lovers exploring Chiang Mai

Authentic place for sure. Watch out your head walking around. Ceilings are very low. Most of authentic northern Thai food is spicy and extra spicy. Keep it in mind. Green tea in sachets :( For Caucasian hobos I recommend fried rice. It’s really good here. Fried sausages aren’t juicy, just dry :(

As the Michelin guide, it’s a standard northern style taste. Delicious, clean but we waiting so long almost 45mins. Food served fast , still keep good standards

An hour wait for a table was well worth it for this incredible menu of flavor packed perfectly cooked northern Thai delicacies. The fried pork belly underwhelmed given the weak meat & fat to bone ratio and green chile dip rang a bit heavy on fish sauce but the curries and soups were a revelation.

The pork curry is delicious but the crispy pork abit dissapointing. The skin is not crispy and not enough flavour. Fish was ok nothing special and have to go with the chili. No reservation, try go early before 6, else will be long q

Large lines at most times for this place. There is a small parking lot across from the place where you can park for free if you come here. The pork curry is good and very simple - no spice. The khao soi was even better. Service was good and fast.
