Huertas Is Closing in the East Village | Eater NY

"Set to close next month after nearly a decade in the East Village, the Basque restaurant Huertas is shutting because the building was purchased and its 10-year lease came to an end; chef and partner Jonah Miller wrote that he’d been negotiating with the new landlord but they haven’t been able to 'come to a number that works for both sides.' Its last day will be August 12. The restaurant received two stars from New York Times critic Pete Wells in 2014, and in 2015 Miller and co-owner Nate Adler scrapped the tasting-menu format and moved to a la carte. Miller said, 'We’ve had an amazing run and I’m certain that the final month will be truly special.'" - Emma Orlow

I tried this place for the first time this weekend. The food was amazing, with large portions, low prices, and lots of fresh ingredients. I got the spinach and cheese pupusas and the chicken soup. The pupusas were enough for a meal by themselves, and were delicious as leftovers later. The chicken soup comes with a whole crispy chicken leg and thigh on a bed of seasoned rice on the side. Also more than a whole meal on its own. The restaurant is brand new, spacious, and nicely decorated and they play a pleasant selection of Latin American pop music. It's also convenient to the Weis and the laundromat. They offer both sit down and to go service. Definitely coming back here!

We had a delicious Revueltas Pupusas with Refrescos Naturales. Amazing Tangy cabbage with rice to add to the bean and pork pupusa with a spicy but not hot sauce to add. Great flavor. Finished with cherry cheesecake. Mmm mmm.
