New Orleans Top Tourist Traps That Are Actually Worth a Visit | Eater New Orleans

"With three locations on Bourbon Street, Huge Ass Beers is the ultimate testimony to proof in advertising. Try to get your whole hand around the giant cup of very cold beer, and sway along with the live music while you sip. This is what Bourbon Street promises and delivers, so order up and enjoy." - Beth D’Addono

The atmosphere is great. We sat at the bar downstairs. The doors were open and it was nice and breezy. You can go upstairs to a balcony. They had multiple sports channels on. The service was good. The food was good but it’s expensive for a small amount. We ordered the fried gator appetizer and it was very good. But for the price we expected a little more than handful.

Google
Great old place to drink it's been open a long time ,lots of memories

Google
Spent over $60 on 5 very watered down shots of Malibu Rum. Friendly service, good music. Drinks next door were much better and much better priced!

Stopped at this bar for a drink during a parade. It was still early so we managed to snag a place on the balcony where we watched the parade go by. The ambiance of the Bourbon street parade was fantastic and the view from the top was fabulous. Our friends enjoyed the massive glasses of beer but they had a poor selection of wine. We got glasses of rose which were awful but it was either that, beer or cocktails.

Google
The location was closed and looked to be having a remodel project going on with the first floor, anyhow. The Google listing said they were open.

Google
Cool night club/bar on Fridays!!! The music was so great. Saturday was an older crowd and live karaoke. Wasn't a fan of Saturday night.

Glenn Lumpkin

Google
Would like to have stayed longer. Drinks were good, and the barkeep was awesome. The band had just started, and the opening set was drawing a good crowd. Two rounds and out this time. I can not confirm nor deny the presence of a disguised tip jar.

Google
It was cool they play some good tunes. No cover charge. Didnt.buy drinks. But it was turnt by us lol

Yelp
Fun place. Super cold beers they're a little spendy but the atmosphere is great. They had a live band playing and they were good also

Yelp
With so many bar and drink options in Bourbon St, how does this one stand out? Well, they sell Big Ass Beers! My friends got me a 70oz beer that basically lasted me the entire morning.

Yelp
Fun and definitely huge ass beers! True New Orleans staple, Best to visit off season,

Yelp
Saw people drinking huge ass beer in a funny booty cup and asked where did you get that? Great bar stopped by early and had an amazing blues band playing and got some huge ass beer.

Yelp
I'm having trouble making a distinction between whether my impression of Huge Ass Beers was influenced by the trashiness of Bourbon Street. Maybe not my classiest moment coming here. But the idea of it seemed fun at the time. There is a huge selection of, well, huge ass beers. You're not going to be getting your craft beers here but I did get a huge ass 32oz Stella. It came in a heavier duty version of a Chinese takeout soup container, with Huge Ass Beers printed on the side. The mouth of the cup is huge so if anything landed in it, I'm not sure I was aware of it. They also offered 16oz, but that doesn't seem out of the ordinary in size to me. I saw much larger beers coming out of the bar but I couldn't stomach more than 32oz of beer if my life depended on it. The bar itself was kind of depressing. There was one guy at the bar sipping on a beer while a live band played in the back to an audience of 3-5 people. Maybe it was too early... and also maybe because it was a Monday night. Would I come here again? I don't know. Depends how I feel next time I'm in NOLA on Bourbon Street... and if someone would share a huge ass beer with me.

Yelp
Butt shaped beers, can't go wrong. Couldn't hear for 2 days after, but worth for the butt shaped beers because I'm a sucker for gimmicks.

Yelp
As far as bars on Bourbon Street go, this one wasn't too bad. The place is actually called "Prohibition: Huge Ass Beers", so make a note of that if you're looking for the place, for some reason. Just like any bar like this, it's going to be a tourist trap and there were plenty on the night we were here. We were hanging out waiting for the Krewe of Boo parade to start and we decided to sit at the bar, have a few drinks and watch the LSU game. There was a band playing that was pretty good and the staff was friendly and fast. They have a "2 for 1" deal that basically applies to all of the crappy beer, so I skipped it and got myself a regular priced Lagunitas IPA that I was happy with. I wouldn't plan an evening around hanging out here, but it isn't a bad choice if you're in the area.

Yelp
This is a real small chill bar! Not a whole lot of seats, but fun people and cold beer. 21 and over only; Strict rules. The music is loud and bump'n in the day. Beers are huge: domestics 16oz - $4.50, 32 oz - $8, 45oz - $14, 70oz - $25. Premium 16oz - $6, 32oz - $10, 45oz - $15, 70oz - $25. Try this place out. Stop by to stay or grab a drink to go!

Yelp
This is one of the rare chill bars along Bourbon. Even when we were here late on a Friday night, it still wasn't too packed and you could actually hear yourself think in here. The DJ is hilarious and notes if you manage to finish one of their huge ass beers, you will indeed be in the bathroom all night. Most people come here for a beer and leave. We decided to stay for a bit and people-watch. The beers are actually a great deal, and get even better the larger you go. The largest one is 70 oz. and don't be surprised if you see a bunch of people walking around with these babies well into the afternoon.

Yelp
Great atmosphere & music! Don't remember too much since it's New Orleans but enjoyed my time here & got some pics. What can I say! They have huge! Ass! Beers!!
google avatar

Maria A.

Yelp
Beers were huge and prices pretty decent. I'd come back here. Best bang for your buck.
google avatar

Yelp
You can't go wrong with a balcony on Bourbon. You can get much better prices a block down at the ER, but you don't come here for a good drink or even a good deal. You want the view and you want the giant beer mug. Come early to get your spot on Saturday nights or during Mardi Gras. This is one of those places on Bourbon that you can tell someone to meet you and you know exactly where to go.

Yelp
"How much ass can you handle?" This is a fun stop on Bourbon Street if you've already been out for a while. Like most Bourbon Street bars, it's dark, kinda looks like every other bar, and..... "sticky" would probably be the best word to describe it. Like the name advertises, it's kind of all about debauchery. We were a bachelorette party of 8, and the host/MC/DJ called us in, playing "California Love" to draw in us California girls (it worked). He just kinda walked around with his mic, trash-talking people, singing along to the music, calling people up to dance, occasionally walking over to the stereo to change the song, etc. I've also noticed that wherever we went in New Orleans, the music played at every bar/club was hip hop from 10-15 years ago. Which is great, in my opinion! Maybe because everyone knows it? It was hard to get the bartender's attention, as she only stayed on one side of the bar and the wait took a while. But we had fun dancing here!
google avatar

Yelp
How much ass can you consume is the eternal question. Now at HUGE ASS BEER it's all the matter of your alcohol tolerance. When roaming Burben St make your way to this place to get a HUGE ASS refreshing drink and possibly have some food if the cook decides to show up. Outside of liver killing portions of booze theres not much else to say other than drink up!
google avatar

Diron K.

Yelp
They were some big beers. The wait staff was very nice and the beers were good. I would definitely go back.

Yelp
It was a great night at Huge Ass Beers! Great awesome cheap drinks. Great people. Rooster was great. Make sure to top the bartenders.
google avatar

Gayle J.

Yelp
Enjoyed the balcony bar area. Played great music. Was able to our base beads & throw them over. The balcony area isn't that long so I could see it being packed on busy nights. The Blue Hawaiian drink was really good.
google avatar

Margaret J.

Yelp
Lol. The name says it all. They sell HUGE ASS BEERS! The bar is rather small, but that's alright since people don't spend much time in there anyway since they're out on Bourbon St with the giant beers. I literally bought the HUGE ASS beer. A 70oz monster that also apparently works as a piggy bank. It only came out to $25 and considering I filled it with Stella, I thought it was a good deal. Friendly staff and quick service on Bourbon Street. Just what I wanted.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm giving this place 5 stars just to say that in the late 60's this was a great boutique steak house that was especially friendly to us in college at the time providing a great place to take a date with terrific ambience and specials not on the menu pricing for us. Todd the owner or manager was exceptional and did the college community a great service. So disappointed that it's just a memory. Good luck and have fun. I'm sure if there's a heaven Todd is there greeting guests.
google avatar

Yelp
The fish bowls are disgusting and try to exchange and pay the price difference for another drink management was being an ass...music was on point!
google avatar

Carla H.

Yelp
Cool place just dark wish the tap list is better. But it's cool and fun and the staff was awesome. I like concept and it's cool I walked around with my beer and enjoyed the sights. I think that's it's a awesome place to visit if you like beer.
google avatar

Yelp
This is one chill bar location were I can drink plenty of for less price. The location has a good size bar and side tables inside. As you walk inside, the floors and tables are sticky though as you can see many people spilling their beer!! What a waste! It can get pretty crowded in here as they are limited to seating but the staff are quick to serve you. I have to saw decent price for huge ass beer plastic cups that I can take home with me. They offer 16oz, 32oz, 45oz and 70oz beers for domestic beers. They have higher prices for premium beer which I like Blue moon. Can you handle this much beer?? ;-p

Yelp
Pretty funny place to stop! Hilarious music and extremely fun containers to carry your beverage on the streets. Definitely the place for some good times and fun. The ladies restroom is very small and not super clean, but does the job if you need to use the restroom. Also, the restrooms are also for paying customers. Make sure to grab a large sized beer on your way out, as it is such a fun experience.
google avatar

Meg C.

Yelp
This place quickly became one of our favorite spots on Bourbon Street. Not terribly crowded as some of the other bars can be and they have a variety of live music. Just a great atmosphere all around. Bartenders are VERY friendly. The beer is cold and there are a variety of options. I'll admit the bathrooms are pretty scary hence the -* but when you are drunk does it really matter?
google avatar

Yelp
I was in New Orleans for my good friend's bachelor party last weekend and I must say, this place was one of my highlights to the trip. Great music, well made drinks, and the service was second to none. Our group came into this place three consecutive nights! That's got to say something, right? I even caught myself suggest this place to a friend in California. She's headed out to NOLA soon, she saw my IG pictures journaling my visit, and took note of the restaurants/bars I went to. I told her, "in the evenings, visit 'G' at Huge Ass Beers - 333 Bourbon St." G obviously has a high standard of service and hospitality. She made delicious drinks, has infectious energy, extremely warm and hospitable, and she knew when to cut me off too. She's a superstar! If you're walking up and down Bourbon St and see this place, cruise on in. You won't regret it!
google avatar

Yelp
Great live music, Great atmosphere, the beers are HUGE. Actually you can choose from many huge beers... I like mine in an ass glass Come get it on!!
google avatar

Chelsea D.

Yelp
We saw the sign and had to go inside. It's hard not to because it's a Huge Ass Beer. We got the cartoonish bottle-shaped 40 oz. of terrible beer for a whopping $12 each, complete with a giant straw and lots of attitude from the bartenders who were extremely slow when it came to bartending. Like Troy K. says, you should take advantage of the bathroom. It's clean-ish, and if you hold onto your Huge Ass Beer (which should be easy, as it's got a handle), you can pop in later for free access to a nice enough bathroom after wandering Bourbon St.
google avatar

Emily J.

Yelp
Troy K. summed things up quite nicely. They sell Huge Ass Beers. What else do you need to know?
google avatar

Leigh P.

Yelp
Ok, picture this. You're in New Orleans and sans alcohol in hand on Bourbon Street. You think "I could go for a huge ass beer", and lo and behold, a place that actually sells "Huge Ass Beers" appears. This exact scenario happened to me on Saturday night and hey, they have a to-go-go window for your needs. We stood in the to-go line got our huge ass beers and wiggled to the band playing great songs. We got our beers, got as far away as about 20 feet and a fantastic song came on... so we turned around, hightailed it back in the big door and boogied on the dance floor for awhile. Lil' puke on the bathroom floor *ayee* but besides that it was awesome. Chickens were dancing with Colonel Sanders, The Dude shook his money maker and it was an awesome time. So, overall assessment: what at first appeared as a "meh" to-go-go beer bar turned out to be a really awesome little club with a great band. Give it a second look, you'll be glad you did!
google avatar

Troy K.

Yelp
Ok so they sell huge ass Beers. The price is not bad. The place is clean and they sell food but I only had beer. Still get your photo taken out front holding the Huge ass beer sign. Tip the guys. Go inside for a short break from the madness of the heart of Bourbon Street. Take advantage of the bathroom.

Yelp
The great draft selection did suprise-us, As did the funny cups of all different sizes. The bartender was the sweetest lil' thang, And I enjoyed the music with soulful twang. Came down to New Orleans for a Bachelor Party weekend and Huge Ass Beers was our first stop every night. The prices were more than fair and the draft beer selection was great. Got to try a bunch of southern breweries including NOLA and Sweetwater. Andrea, the bartender, was wonderful. She told us all of the places in the area that we should try and welcomed us with open arms every time we stepped into the bar. The draw at the place is the funny cup sizes: the Half-Ass Beer, Huge-Ass Beer, a 40 oz glass shaped like an ass, and a yard glass shaped like a giant bottle. When you decide you want to leave, just take your cup and go. You don't have to worry about slamming your brew. There were dueling pianos and other decent live musicians each time we went.
google avatar

Melissa B.

Yelp
Had so much fun here drinking huge ass beers while visiting NOLA! Enjoyed the live music! It's a must do if ever visiting!!
google avatar

Shelley P.

Yelp
Why not give it five stars? They offer huge ass beers and the prices are better than other places on bourbon street. I was happy to find the seasonal Anita strawberry beer and doubly happy to buy a half- ass size vs. a beer I'd never finish!
google avatar

Diva J.

Yelp
Don't judge a bar by its name. Okay, this one you can... We were in New Orleans for just a few days, and I saw many people walking around with their Huge Ass Beers. I figured it was the typical crowded sleazy bar that you find on Bourbon Street. But I was wrong. We stopped by on a Sunday evening, and it was actually pretty nice. There was a jazz band playing in the back and plenty of seating at the bar for our large group. We stayed for a couple hours. I got the Angry Orchard that was on tap in the Huge Ass Beer size. I had to share it -- it really is huge. :) The bar entrance is fully open to the street, so it's nice to have your beer and watch people having a good time on the street.
google avatar

Brittney J.

Yelp
This place is a MUST! I visited back in September and every night I hit Bourbon I had to come back here. Music is good but the Emcee and DJ are so entertaining. They have 3 shots for $10 drink specials upstairs. Yes I said 3!! Share with a friend or just order a REALLY strong drink. The balcony is a tight fit but makes for some really great people watching and photo ops at night!
google avatar

Jamie S.

Yelp
Located right on Bourbon Street, the name says it all! Although I've had a larger size in prior years, a 40 oz for $12 is not a bad price for Bourbon Street. Price goes up depending on what beer you choose - Heineken was $15 which is still not bad. You also get a nice coin bank beer bottle souvenir to take with you. If you're short, like me, people will think the bottle is bigger and ask you where they can have one thinking it's bigger than what it is. I speak from experience. It's a good deal - take advantage of it!
google avatar

Ko J.

Yelp
Horrible treated our fraternity poorly... not a great atmosphere rude service. I cannot believe the rudeness of the owner to go out of his way to disrespect our fraternity during our conclave
google avatar

Darylynn D.

Yelp
Love the live music of jazz and blues here. The crowd helps the musicians improvise the songs so everyone becomes a part of the show. The huge ass beers are one to try on Bourbon. Litterally it is the hugestest cup of beer served in any bar.
google avatar

Noele C.

Yelp
The band was great but the bartender tends to men the entire time. She had platinum blonde hair, white complexion, and red lips. Did not give us the time of day for change for at least 30 mins when we wanted to tip the band numerous times.
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
First time on Bourbon Street! This place had the music rockin'. The bartender Dawn is super sexy and pretty kind too! She gave us professional service with a Smile while we were there & a high five and a Thankyou when we left. She knows how to work the bar and make every customer feel like they are appreciated. The live band was excellent!! When they were finished this cool guy w a Mic started talking and kept the music goin! Fireball was cold, Jagers were dirty, & they had some Bud Light. Love it! Forget Las Vegas ... New Orleans has much more to offer!
google avatar

Cici P.

Yelp
Good music. Fun. Ordered "huge" blue moon bottle. Take forever to finish it LOL. Good price for a big one. Had fun watching upstairs folks throw bead to us.
google avatar

Tonya R.

Yelp
I came for the huge beer but was pleasantly surprised at the food! This was by far my favorite meal while visiting New Orleans!! I had the red fish with crawfish sauce and garlic mashed potatoes! It was amazing. I could eat that meal every day and be a happy lady. Our waitress was knowledgeable and very chatty which I enjoyed. The view from the balcony was great, I loved watching all the people on bourbon street. I will definitely be back and would recommend to all my family and friends!!
google avatar

Jordan Y.

Yelp
Good music and decent priced drinks. Not a whole lot of room to dance and move around but it's a nice and homie feel. The MC up on stage is funny as hell. Always making jokes and clowning. He's what really kept us coming back during our trip. We could get drunk and listen to him act a fool to every song all night long.
google avatar

Val R.

Yelp
I didn't go here for the beer because I don't drink beer. I went in for the music, fun and dancing. I had a great time here, the band playing was good and then after the band left the DJ got started. This guy was a hell of an MC, he had everyone dancing and was entertaining. It's amazing so many people from everywhere (different states and part of the world) because the MC walked around asking us all to give a shout out to our hometowns. Including those celebrating birthdays. Everyone was dancing with each other. I met people from Mexico city, Chicago, St Louis, etc. Some were professionals in NOLA on business. It was just good fun, good music and people. The bar has a sign also known as the "Prohibition Bar". I even danced with the MC. Because were from California (Me and my daughter-yes she's 21) he played the old Cali Swag District- Teach me how to Dougie. Yes its old but was all in fun. My daughter hit the dance floor with 4 other young guys and was the only girl who could dougie. We had fun overall......
google avatar

Jasmin T.

Yelp
We stepped into this place because the singer was amazing! It was a nice chill place to take a break from the early craziness on bourbon. I loved being able to take this awesome cup with me! We'll definitely come by and stay a bit longer when we're back in town.
google avatar

Pete R.

Yelp
Ice cold tap beer. 4 domestic and 8 premiums. The Lagunitas IPA was delicious. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Music was a bit too loud but acceptable.
google avatar

Reid W.

Yelp
Went in to get a beer, had one of their employees cat call my girlfriend, and made her feel very uncomfortable. I would usually leave it at that and not write a review about it, but this guy would not stop even after we walked away. Their beer is average, I understand it is Bourbon Street, but man keep that stuff out of your workplace if you want business.
google avatar

Matthew V.

Yelp
Brooke pours great shots..the atmosphere is absolutely electric..best spot on bourbon for sure!!! We were here yesterday & came back today to hangout! Thanks for a great first time on bourbon!! -Matt
