14 Lively Irish Pubs to Grab a Pint in Houston | Eater Houston

"With cordial service, family-friendly options, and plenty of pints of Guinness, whiskey, and scotch to go around, there’s truly something for everyone awaiting here at the Irish-owned pub and restaurant. Traditional bar bites like wings and burgers make up a portion of the menu, but go full green, white, and orange and pony up to some Irish classics like Irish stew — a stick-to-your ribs slow cooked beef and mirepoix bowl served with a house-made Irish brown bread. Daily specials include discounted bangers and mash nights on Tuesdays and fish and chips nights on Wednesdays."

Rice Village’s Gorgeous Gael Irish Pub Calls It Quits - Eater Houston

"The owners will be opening a new venture clear across town called Hugh O’Connor’s, which sounds a lot like an Irish pub judging by the name. The new pub will be located at 7620 Katy Freeway and is slated to open in late October." - Alaena Hostetter

Google
Very typical pub with older (and less diverse) crowd. Good to watch sports. Came here for cocktails (Espresso Martini and Old Fashioned) Service was fast. But the cocktail did not convince - flavor was off and the taste was more artificial than anything

Google
Great food and good service without being overbearing. I'd be happy to go back here again! Would recommend the stew, even with this heat.

Google
This place is awesome. food is great, lots of options. they have a great selection of Irish Whisky and Scotch even the rare stuff. and very reasonably priced. Shepherds pie and their burgers are great recommendations. If you get Dennis behind the bar you're in great hands. Solid bartender super nice guy. I highly recommend this place. cheers.

Google
Excellent place for food with friends and family. Great selection of draft beer. Staff is friendly and helpful. Good is delicious!

Google
Came here for the 1/5 Liverpool : Manchester United game and had the Irish breakfast The atmosphere was incredible with the entire pub cheering thro guy hour the match. Service was slower given the extremely busy event but solid for how busy it was. The full Irish breakfast wasn’t my favorite but I enjoyed trying it. I feel like the portions size could’ve been larger (e.g., just a quarter of roasted tomato and a small thimble of baked beans) for what came out to almost $25 for a breakfast plate.

Google
Our book club had a late St. Patrick's luncheon here. Excellent selection of beers on tap. The Black and Tan was perfect. Lots of other beverage choices hard and soft. I had the Irish breakfast which was filling and delicious. Everyone enjoyed their choices which were very varied. Service was excellent. Lots of TV Screens but at the time we were there they were muted and no one seemed to be watching.

Google
First off, Maria makes the best drinks. I come here on the weekends to just unwind in a casual atmosphere. It’s unpretentious and fun. I’ve had the Irish nachos. Great. The fish and chips. Excellent. The service is also excellent. This place is a hidden gem people don’t know about because people don’t go to the Marquee for a pub. You’re missing out. Also, Maria is awesome!

Google
I love this place!! Drinks are always great, service is friendly and the atmosphere is perfect for chilling or catching a game. Every time I go, I have to get the boneless buffalo wings and chicken quesadilla are addicting. Definitely check Hugh O’Connors out if you are in the area or need a good drink.

Yelp
I love and feel at home at Irish pubs, and Hugh O'connors is no exception. The atmosphere is fun and inviting. Everyone is friendly and having a great time. The service is good. There's plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. There is a vast variety of beers on tap, and the bar is fully stocked with everything you need to have a good time Some tips: If you go see a movie at the Regal Cinema (just steps away), bring your ticket stub and show it to the bartender, as you will receive 10% off your order Sláinte!

Yelp
This is a great place to hang out with a group or even take a date. It has games, good vibes, and a good selection of food and drinks. The parking lot tends to fill up on weekends because it's a popular plaza, but the lot is so big you'll definitely find a spot even when it's busy. Plus, there's other things to do in the plaza like go to the movies, other restaurants, Dave & buster's, and much more. I recommend the Cosmopolitan and the Irish Car Bomb (ICB). They're both delicious and super easy to drink. The ICB is a shot of Jameson mixed with baileys that you drop into a cup of Guinness and chug. If you let it sit, the cream starts to curdle. Not pretty, but still delicious. It's also just more fun to chug it with friends like you would chug a sake bomb. If the Jameson or Guinness don't sound appealing, I don't care for either on their own, but the baileys makes this a sweet and super easy drink to drink, tasting kind of like a milkshake. I highly recommend it!

Yelp
Home of the Liverpool Supporter's Club, this Irish pub pours a perfect pint of Guinness and the atmosphere is electric on match days. Service here is great too, it's impressive how the staff function when it's standing room only on some of the more exciting matches, and their food is also great. I had their fish and chips recently and it was delicious. The fries were perfectly cooked and well seasoned, and the fish was flakey and tender. I can't recommend this place enough, and if you're looking for an exciting pub to watch premier league, this is the one for you!

Yelp
I came in after the Sloomoo Yelp experience. It's definitely an authentic and traditional bar with moderately priced food and drinks. I would recommend stopping by if you are in the area. I tasted their queso, and it was pretty good but came out kind of cold. Overall taste was great. The vibe was chill and easygoing. Great after a long day at work. Service was very nice and helpful. Would be back when I'm in the area again.

Yelp
I am 0/2 with pix this week! Sorry. I got ambient pix but was too hungry to realize I forgot food pix (smh) Anyways.... Food was Great! Southwest Salad was shareable between the two if us and was flavorful and well presented. I got the Irish Potato (basically like potato skins!). They were good! They are NOT potato skins though, they are slices of potato with peeling on, and then topped with cheese and bacon bits and served with a side of pico and sour cream. I would definitely eat here again! Didn't try any drinks, but wish I had. There is outdoor seating with large umbrellas but it was raining. There's tons of large booths for party of 4. Long bar tables for large groups, bar seating with sports tv screens.

Yelp
I went to Hugh O'Conners on St. Patrick's Day and it was packed. Like super packed. The atmosphere was fun and lively however service was slow which was expected because of the Holiday. The Whiskey Orange Tea Shots and Green Tea Shots......... absolutely delicious. Let just say my crew had several. There was a limited food menu, wasn't to found of anything listed so I settled for a chicken sandwich. Dry, Dry, Dry as the Sahara. I'm open to trying the food again on a slower day but this day was not it.

Yelp
Always a great spot for great beer and amazing pub fare. Games on the many tvs especially when Liverpool plays and the Broncos Service is always fast and friendly. Hard workers and super nice. Loud during games as it should be.
google avatar

Brad G.

Yelp
Great fish and chips. Nice and crispy and cooked perfectly. The queso was delicious. It had a unique flavor that was a pleasant change. The servers were on point and the place was well decorated. I look forward to going back.

Yelp
Second try and food was just as bad as first try a few months ago. Service was ok and I'm sure just hanging for drinks is ok but food... that's a different rating.

Yelp
I really love this place! I've been here on a few dates with my bf. The inside is very modern and nice looking. It has an industrial loft bar type look with really nice comfy booths. It's very nice and would be a great place for a date or nice dinner with friends. It's also interestingly decorated with Irish signage and decor, just very cool and interesting. The food is delicious! We love the Shepherd's pie, and once, I ordered a chicken salad expecting just regular bar food quality, but I was pleasantly surprised. The chicken was very moist, tender, and very delicious! Most of all, the owner and staff are super friendly and nice. There's one server in particular we used to get frequently that was always amazingly professional and sweet. Overall, I highly recommend this place. It would be fun to catch a drink or dinner here before a movie since they are so close by.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time yesterday and loved it. The food was stellar, the staff was kind, and the overall vibe is super friendly.

Yelp
Great food and drinks pub is owned and frequented by real Irish nationals. The food is authentic and tasty. Service is excellent and prices are good. Highly recommend a visit.
google avatar

Yelp
I found the turkey melt very good. The service was a little slow. I mean it wasn't that busy, but it took them forever to get back to me and asked me if I want anything else, and I just needed to wash down the whiskey and the tuna out.the ambience is very nice. People were very friendly. The staff is friendly however, like I said, they are slow.
google avatar

Jonquil J.

Yelp
The food was ok I had the chicken nachos I'm just used to the ground beef and I will just stick with that going forward. The service was your typical service they didn't go over and beyond and didn't even try to make small talk. We ordered I food to go so maybe that was the reason. Ambiance was your sports bar vibe not sure if I would return to this establishment.

Yelp
Stopped in for an early dinner. Service was really great. Cocktails well done. Ordered the fish and chips and my sis had the burger and onion rings. Both were very well done and possibly the best onion rings I've had in a long time. Well worth stopping by and trying !!!

Yelp
Dropped in here for a split second to see what it was all about. Everyone was definitely tuned in to The Astros game showcasing a lot of Houston pride. They had great service but I didn't get a chance to order anything because the kitchen had closed so I watched the game for a little while before leaving to get some food. Self-Parking Nice Asthetics Full Bar Great Service Flat Screens Open Late
google avatar

Yelp
Cold Guinness and a solid Full Irish Breakfast! Definitely recommend! Service was also good. Fish and chips also looked good (my friend had them).
google avatar

Yelp
Love this location, great for the comedy club or even a movie. They do comedy club happy hour. Steak night is the best as well, definitely it's own unique experience and flavor. Great bar if you are a Denver Broncos Fan, great meet up with any teams welcome. Definitely the place to be! Food is gonna be too notch, always get something new and it never disappoints me. Fish and Chips are a crowd pleaser and hummus is great choice for those healthy eaters.

Nina Z.

Yelp
Went there tonight, ordered two fish and chips, you can taste the oil they use too old, need change often, first time there probably last time .

Bryan B.

Yelp
The music was the perfect vibe for the restaurant! Not too crowded, reasonable prices and delicious food! Will definitely be returning!!
google avatar

Austin C.

Yelp
I have been coming here for years before heading to the Improv or movie theater. I have never had a bad experience. Great ambiance, great service, and friendly bartenders. Their steak night is one of the best in town and I am personally a huge fan of their sliders. Would recommend to any of my friends before or after a movie. Be sure to show them your movie ticket for 10% off of your tab!

Lisa E.

Yelp
Very good Shepard pie shared & excellent service. Would definitely come back again when in the area- a little pricey but worth it!
google avatar

Harry H.

Yelp
For an Irish Pub, and reviews, it was disappointing. Fish and Chips, very disappointing, fries warm, not hot, slaw, about a tablespoon, just laid on the plate. My wife ordered wings, server said they were mild, very hot sauce, could not finish. I don't like to write bad things, but it was what it was.
google avatar

Yelp
Breakfast brunch... Saturday football cold beer, whiskey, and incredible service! Best kept secret on Katy Freeway!!! Plenty tv's and great atmosphere! Gotta ck it out folks...
google avatar

Kacy M.

Yelp
I've come here a few times for their half off fish and chips on Wednesday's because it's such a great deal. Their normal price is ridiculous in my opinion. But for half price, I can get dessert or a beer and it'll be the same price as a normal day. The fish is always hot and flakey, the bread pudding is rich and just the right amount of sweetness, and they have a big beer selection. The service isn't the best in my opinion, after getting your food you're kind of forgotten about. Overall great place and yummy food!

David H.

Yelp
Excellent service every time. Best fish and chips in Houston. Authentic Irish pub feel with excellent beer shepherds pie and Irish stew.
google avatar

Dorothy L.

Yelp
We've been coming to this Irish bar for quite a while. Their food is so good. We had the deviled eggs (so good with pickled onions on them) and fried pickles and peppers. And our server, Amelia, was so attentive and so gracious. The food is always delicious. Rick had the Shepherds pie tonight and we finished it off with a chocolate cake with ice cream. You'll see there's not much left of the pickles and peppers because it was so good. Steak night is on Thursday nights and the Jamison is five dollars. Definitely worth visiting.
google avatar

Nicholas M.

Yelp
The Wings were well battered and tasted amazing The Grilled chicken with Mac and cheese tasted fresh grilled chicken a little dry the Mac cheese was tasteful price a little then expected but overall good experience good service tasteful food maybe not a must go spot but if your out on the town catching a movie at the Marquee stop in.

Yelp
I happened upon this Irish I pub after Van Gogh exp experience the centre is chuffed with casual dining. My friends wanted fish and chips and this looked an apt spot to get an order and I could get a pint . There were 6 of us they took good care of us several carafes of mimosas appetizers, fish and chips. On the patio . A little taste of home admits cookie cutter eateries

Yelp
To save you some reading... yes. Come here. This bar is a GEM. Excellent service. The owner was here and he was super nice and welcoming. I was the only one here on a Monday during the Euro Cup and it was still a great experience due to the amount of TV's, sound on and the conversations I had with the owner and my cold Dos XX. I was pleasantly surprised at how juicy and crispy the fried pickles and peppers were. So fresh and crunchy. Jalapeño ranch is mouth watering. The Shepherds Pie was flavorful and felt authentic. (I've never been to Ireland, England, etc) I happen to be a myth buster and the myth is, they serve the coldest beer... I put it to the test and YES. YES! Frozen mug, cold beer on such a hot day. Squeaky clean restaurant and restroom! Decent prices and even better during happy hour. $5 Jameson! Large selection of Irish whiskey and scotch. What are you waiting for? I'll probably see you there (I'm the hottie at the bar.. I mean.. fatty)

Yelp
I don't mean to sound like a fawner But it is a truly great honour To review the grub At this Liverpool Pub My favourite of all, named O'Connors I've been here more times than I'll count Usually right after Barbie dismounts The Reds tend to win When we're watching within (BTW, Barbie & I don't give happy hour discounts) Patrons always say "Hello!" like Lionel And if it's too loud, they offer me Tylenol And when Liverpool score I become a hug-whore Especially in a Champions League Final Sometimes it gets way too loud to talk And it's so packed that Barbie can't walk Specially not in her heels Drinking Stella, eating meals Rustled up by lads from County Cork. My favourite Liverpool Football Pub in the country and the one where I've had a lot of great memories, more so than any other. Run by wonderful folks from County Cork in the South of Ireland, and if you think there's a better Irish pub in Texas, put a cork in it and come and try this one. This pub has all the Connor-tations of being a great Liverpool pub. This particular location is new and much more spacious and roomy than the old location in Rice Village, known as the Gorgeous Gael. There's another new location of HOC in Energy Corridor which I haven't tried yet. It's not located on a street Connor, but it's still named Connor's. It's at the Marq-E, and it's the Marquee LFC pub in the country in my opinion. I miss the old spot because it was right next to our house and so easy to access, but this one is excellent and has tons of TVs and the service is second to none - and probably the best I've had at any Liverpool Pub in North America, and I've been to dozens. If you go for ice cream after, I have one question: Connor cup? Food is good and drinks are great, especially the Stella Artois which Barbie keeps getting drunk on (and then very frisky) (even more than usual) and Liverpool have a habit of winning their games whenever I am here. For example this is where we watched the legendary 4-0 comeback win over Barcelona that was almost kinda sorta with a reserve team line-up, and this is also where I watched the much less stressful Champions League final where Liverpool won their sixth title against some North London team that I forgot due to their lack of relevance. (That's so Spursy) I come here for any Liverpool game which I can although I definitely don't watch all of them here. They even have the ones that aren't on TV. They even have the ones that start at 6 in the morning. You can't get any better than that. They also have a lot of good looking people coming in here so that helps totally distract us from bad results. The owners are from Cork in Ireland so they know how to run a pub and they do so very well. Good food and they offer plenty of Connor-diments. Easily one of the best Liverpool pubs in the country, rivaling the very top ones in Toronto and New York City. It doesn't always get as busy as those but the atmosphere is great and the service is second to none. Plus, who wants to be freezing in Toronto in New York when you can be warm down here in Houston. Not owned by Connor McGregor, or Conor Wickham, or Connor McLeod of the Clan McLeod. But totally owned by John Connor and Sarah Connor, which means Linda Hamilton can finally compare her biceps to Barbie's and settle the argument. Anyway I know I've had one too many... but connor get another?

Charles A.

Yelp
We had a great experience at Hugh O'Connors a week ago. Tried to go to another area restaurant which was overcrowded. Needing to eat before a movie, we opted to find a less busy place nearby. H. O'Connors worked very well. The four of us had different things: burger, salad with salmon, fish & chips, and bangers & mash. Everything was delicious! I was skeptical since I'd seen some negative comments about the fish and chips from other diners but no prob for us. All was great. If we'd had more time, drinks after the show would have been fun. The only reason I didn't give them 5 was that they were a bit short handed. Servers hustled though so all good. When in area again, we'll be back.
google avatar

Kallie P.

Yelp
Went here after comedy show and Peter told the bartender are IDs were fake, my boyfriends because he wasn't 6 foot. We had just walked it and gave us no valid explanation for why we couldn't be served. Walked in with good vibes not being loud already having friends in there and immediately ended up leaving because we we're not welcomed. Would not recommend.

Gavin E.

Yelp
I love this place! The shepherd's pie is one of the best I've had, the service is incredible, and it's in a great location for a night out. I will certainly be back.
google avatar

George S.

Yelp
Tried to go there for St Patrick's Day mid-afternoon and the place was totally packed and the DJ music blasting. Not wanting to stand with no hope of sitting we went elsewhere to enjoy the afternoon. Probably not fair to HO'C so will have to try them on a normal Friday.
google avatar

Eric E.

Yelp
The staff is awesome and they always take care of us and our crazy parties. Great food and always a fun time.
google avatar

Anthony A.

Yelp
This is a really awesome establishment. The bartenders are attentive, friendly, knowledgable, and genuine. I usually come by myself. I don't need anyone to join me because this place is great. Drinks are always spot on and the atmosphere couldn't be better. Place is always clean and there's always great people here to meet. O'Connor's outshines every bar I've ever been to. There's so much more I can say about this place but I'd rather you see for yourself.

Mike R.

Yelp
I scrolled through a lot of the reviews and I didn't see one mention of their whisk(e)y selection; it was really solid. I come to the pub for a pint and a whiskey and this place DID NOT DISAPPOINT! The food was pretty solid too. We had irish stew, hard boiled eggs and fish n chips. Will be back
google avatar

Alexis G.

Yelp
I arrived here with high hopes of great beer and food. All my expectations were met extremely high. This place is the place to go anytime your happy or sad. I tried the fish and chips with a Guinness extra stout

Joel E.

Yelp
This bar is boss, I feel so appreciated , as the owners come check on you, to the great food. Excellent service and cold beer
google avatar

Alan S.

Yelp
Place seems okay. Pretty chill atmosphere. Decent bar food. Just snacked on apps with a group.

Yelp
I've checked out Hugh O'Connors twice now: once on a Saturday night for drinks and once during happy hour on a weekday for dinner. This Irish pub is located in the same shopping center as Edwards, Dave & Busters, Warehouse 72, Houston Improv, and a bunch of other businesses. They have a huge parking lot so that won't be a problem. When I stopped by at night, I was there for a birthday party. Our waiter did a great job of taking care of a rowdy group. Since this is an Irish pub, beer or Irish whiskey is the way to go. I went with a couple of brews. For my dining experience, they have some patio seating out front but we sat inside at one of the booths. They have happy hour discounts on a bunch of appetizers so we took advantage. Service was good again and the food was exactly what you'd expect at an Irish pub. Solid yet uninspiring. Hugh O'Connor's is relatively new and it makes for a nice addition to the area. Added bonus: daily specials each day including bangers and mash, fish and chips, etc. Nice to have along with happy hour specials!
google avatar

Joy M.

Yelp
Good happy hour and staff but I definitely do not recommend the ribeye for steak night. It is $25 for the ribeye and the steak was undercooked with excessive fat and over seasoned. I only managed to eat the mashed potatoes and green beans. I would suggest other steak nights or the pork chop instead. My friend mentioned the pork chop was great and the deviled eggs as well.
google avatar

Zach S.

Yelp
The Guinness is the best I've ever had and cold... trust me there's a big difference in how a single beer can taste. Thursday night! This steak night is the best I've had in Houston. There's a wide variety of steaks to choose from and they cook them PERFECTLY! Lastly, the bartenders are extremely nice and like to have a good time. There are TVs everywhere and they will change to whatever you want on. This place is a Liverpool hub with watch parties most games. I recommend this place if you want to try something new.
google avatar

Roxanne R.

Yelp
Besides the service that turned real shitty after my friend ACCIDENTALLY broke a glass .. this place also adds UNAUTHORIZED TIPS to your total. Beware I never would have noticed. Want to give a shout out to my grandma who taught me to always keep my copy of the receipt.

Mary B.

Yelp
Love this place. Great Irish pub, food is good and drinks are great! Good atmosphere
google avatar

Jessa M.

Yelp
This was our first time here. Like any new place to try, we were skeptical. We gave it a shot, and we loved it! The ambiance was very chill and mellow. The food was amazing and fresh, and the service was on point. I HIGHLY recommend the Mac N Cheese, which was creamy and flavorful. The fish n Chips was definitely a winner, too, with homemade tartar sauce. We also ordered the hummus, which came with a variety of dippers. We were stuffed and felt satiated. Two thumbs up on this place! Only confusing thing is that the Signage reads 'O'Connors', but when you google or map it, it says 'Hugh O'Connors'
google avatar

Jo A.

Yelp
I came in for their 1/2 price burger monday special. It definitely isn't the best burger, but for $4, I cant say I'd find a better deal anywhere else. Definitely better than something from Mcdonald's for the same price. Pros: -price -speedy service (but i was going into an irish bar on a monday at 1PM, so it was pretty empty) -cute outdoor seating Cons: -unprofessional (not that it was unfriendly, but they could just use a little more customer service skills) -quality
google avatar

Carla H.

Yelp
Stopped in here cause I was leaving the movie theatre and was in a mood for something different. Upon arrival it wasn't busy and I set myself down. My bestie and I wanted a beer and was curious on drink specials. If you smoke cigars or cigarettes this place has a big outdoor patio. My waiter was nice and had a cool accent. He suggested the Fish and Chips and informed us about the happy hour. Its Monday-Friday until 7pm. There are many food options the fish and chips were around $13 it was worth it. Overall I would return. The food was good and the service was efficient. Stop by if your ever in this area.
