Hugh O’Neill’s Irish Pub is absolutely awesome! The Shepherd’s Pie (beef AND lamb) is phenomenal – hearty, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The service is friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with live Irish folk music adding to the authentic charm. Whether you’re local or visiting, this pub is a must-visit for anyone craving a delicious meal and a true Irish experience in the greater Boston area. Highly recommend!

Loved this pub, went on a Friday night and there was live music with Christmas decorations, so very jolly.Enjoyed the alagash white beer. The appetizers were very well made and delicious. Got the fries with curry, so good! Highly recommend this place for a hangout with friends!

I ordered the Hugh's burger, I asked for it to be well-done but it was burnt and bitter so I was pretty disappointed. My sister got the BBQ salmon with rice, which she said was pretty good. Waited about 30 minutes for food, seemed a bit understaffed but good service, music is loud, if I return I would get something else on the menu.

Pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. Great variety of beers and whiskey for those who prefer something stronger. The Shepherd’s Pie was hearty and very filling. My friend could not stop raving about the quality of the burger. Parking is available on the street, and there is also a large parking garage nearby.

Low quality food. There was a whole chicken breast in my quesadilla uncut. Steak tips had no favor. Mash potatoes are so thick basically cement. Very gross and the staff weren’t really taking care of us. Only 5 tables were full and the wait time between food was over 30 minutes.

A rustic local Irish pub in Malden with authentic oldish interior design. Was built in 2002, and celebrates this year 20 year anniversary. The food is good, the drinks too.

First time coming for lunch, nice day out so we sat outside. Food quantity was great! Will be back again!

Drove in to town on our way to Cambridge and decided to stop in for a bite to eat. We were pleased with the way things were dealt with regarding Corona Virus. We opted to sit outside and we were seated far from anybody else. The drinks were ordered and arrived quickly. Staff were attentive and friendly. The food was better than we anticipated.

I couldn't lean on the bar or put my phone down on the bar coz it was dirty. I had to push dirty glasses aside to make space for my drink which I waited to order while the bartender flirted with a guy for 15 mins straight.. but she did show up in front of me and not say a word while staring at me hoping my face would speak out my order.. I said totios soda lime please.. she made my drink and put it in front of me and walked away, I'm guessing she's had a rough day but suddenly I'm supposed to have a poor experience coz she had a bad day... but then I noticed everyone were treated similarly while she continued having a frown on her face. I overheard people contemplating tipping. But maybe the problem is deeper.. maybe she's used to making tip money regardless of the service provided.. Owners please look at the cameras from Sunday night and help your Sunday night bartender find a better different career path

A Malden staple! It's not super fancy, and there tons of locals, but how cool to see a younger crowd / which is different when I was growing up! The food is so good! Burgers are juicy and the salads are fresh. TONS of seating and close to other places in Malden center. Service is amazing, and it's pretty clean for what it is. I'm so happy this place is still open and doing well.

Hugh O'Neill's is a staple of my outings with my partner. Usually we frequent this quaint little pub in Malden Center off the Orange Line a few times per month- particularly for the half-priced apps between Sunday-Tuesday 4pm-7pm. We usually get 2-3 apps but usually always go with the poutine and nachos (tip: get the nachos without salsa or salsa on the side- the chips can get very wet but with just cheese and the other bells and whistles they're pretty good!) The environment is that you would expect of an Irish pub in the Greater Boston area: wooden bar, supports and bannisters along with local cultural memorabilia lining the walls. If you're a fan of commanding what music in the space, they have a touch tunes jukebox. The service is the primary reason Hugh's gets 3 stars. I'm not sure how exactly the waiting staff is trained, but every time we have been here the food and drinks come quick, but getting the check or the waiting staff coming to check on us so we can ask for it can sometimes take forever. I understand a busy restaurant, but 20-30min after finishing and not touching the food before the server comes by to check in again is a little excessive. I'd rather pay immediately because at least if we want to hang out any longer it's by choice and not because we're waiting for wait staff to come by again. On a few instances we have even closed out at the bar as opposed to waiting. I still tip despite this glaring outlier when opposed with the rest of the dining experience, but sometimes I ask "what for" when the attention of wait staff can be fleeting at best. Overall the food and environment of the restaurant are exactly what you would want in an Irish pub. Maybe just reinforce the wait staff to check in more because when it isn't busy and we wait that long, it makes me wonder if we were forgotten about.

Stale air and beer. Ambiance was that of a bar way past its prime. Lack of patrons should have been an indicator that this place was barely meeting health code standards. Server brought water cups that were clearly used as pen cups, still containing ink from their previous career. Server also spilled beer on one of our party members and just shrugged it off like it was another crappy day of his life. Food was sub par, chowder somehow completely sucked (a shameful effort). Would not recommend unless you are completely hammered and you need some mid pub food to fill the void.

We went into Hughes with one thing and one thing only. An empty stomach. At first we were greeted pretty fast and thought it was gonna be a quick eat and fleet. Boy oh boy were we wrong. We had a simple order 3 of us eating only people there. Steak tips and fries, fish and chips, and a kids chicken and fry. Not only did the food take 50 minutes to come out but the waiter did not check on us ONCE. Couldn't even get a refill of water. Had me feeling like a child in need of basic necessities but the craziest part was I had to pay. Would never eat here again.

One of my favorite places to go for lunch or dinner, great selections, everything fresh, big servings, and the specials of the week are always so delicious. Raffy the cook is one of my favorite chefs!!!

Went there for dinner. Guy at the door tried to charge a cover to eat there for me and my fiance. It's a dive bar. Never going again.

Wow! I always pass by this place but now I've finally tried it! I understand why it's always busy! Super great vibes and atmosphere, servers were very polite. Steak Tip Nachos - 8/10 Already looked like a masterpiece, super loaded! Could use more cheese for sure, was a little dry. The steak tips were delicious but was a little dry and tough as well. Fish and Chips - 9/10 Beautifully crisp fried fish! Check out that golden brown crust! I love that the chips were thin and crispy, definitely one of the best dishes here! Super yummy! Clam chowder - 10/10 Could never go wrong with clam chowder, super flavorful and warms my heart. Cheese fries - 8/10 I needed this cheese on my nachos lol! Definitely what you expect from cheese fries, nothing special in particular. Overall, this is a nice American restaurant. Amazing atmosphere, great food and nice servers! I should come here more often!

It's ..fine? Ordered a bunch of stuff for my table. Some of the dishes were quite good (particularly the tomato soup special), some were questionable. My wife felt a little off after leaving here. We can't confirm if this was a food quality issue or if something unrelated (it went away after a few hours). Atmosphere is indeed lovely, I enjoyed the holiday decorations. Service was friendly and welcoming - definitely a pro. Though there were some hiccups - our food almost went to the wrong table and a drink was brought out that we didn't order. All that said - if you're coming here for a cozy vibe, kind staff, sports, some drinks and maybe apps - it's a good neighborhood pub. If I lived closer, I'd come here often.

Was very excited to try this place for the first time. Was enjoying the beginning but unfortunately the service was not great. My friend and I ordered a cup of soup and salad to start and after an hour of waiting we still didn't get it. We asked the bartender about the food about 40min after not receiving the apps and they said "the kitchen is backed up." I'm sorry but no one waits an hour for a cup of soup.... Plus the male bartender was too worried about watching the game and the female bartender was too concerned about getting off shift. This was the worst service I've ever experienced at a restaurant.

It's a staple, it's a favorite. The layout feels just like home with its warm woods, and the bartenders are superbly friendly. Good beers, and great food. Ok honestly I've only eaten the mozzarella sticks here but everytime I get them to share with friends we have to get extra because we devour them. If that's any indication of other foods in the menu, you'd be in great hands to eat here. It's a calmer pub feel in the area compared to some other bars around here, though I'm not usually out on the town late on a Saturday anymore so it may get rowdier.

V is a wonderful bartender and is incredibly hospitable to her guests! Tuesday is Hugh's day. The touch tunes are also a nice touch

Came for a whisky tasting night in March and they still had pumpkin beer on tap, so if you're into it, head there, they might still have it. The food was great -- as a vegetarian I was given a special meal (outside the buffet) of a salad with roasted cauliflower and it was real good and filling. Also tried the pretzel bites and cheese sauce which were perfect

Bartenders (shoutout to Sarah and Ahsad (sp?)) and waitstaff are awesome here but the AC has been broken for weeks!! My bf and I have left way earlier than we wanted to more than once cause we were just too damn hot. Hopefully this place fixes its AC soon so we can get back to having a good time!!

This was my first time visiting the pub to attend a fundraiser my friends were hosting on a Sunday evening. The place can become easily packed with large crowds, but there are still plenty of tables and bar seats around. O'Neill's has a great, lively vibe and features local bands and musicians. The bartenders are super friendly, and there are many kinds of beer available on tap. My only issue with the location was that, like many pubs, the lighting was EXTREMELY dark, thereby making it every photographer's nightmare to take group photos indoors. If you're going to take photos at this location, turn on your flash!

Food was delicious, prices were reasonable, and portions were just right! I would definitely eat here again!

I have been coming to this restaurant for years. I've had several red flags but enjoyed the proximity to where I live and the overall vibe was one I generally prefer. The first is that I came in around 9:30/10 pm to order a late dinner after getting out of work and the bartender literally slapped the bar (multiple times in a row like I was a dog) to get my attention, and for context, this was immediately as he walked over to me for the FIRST time -he had not been standing there for a while. The second I'd like to mention is that I came here on my birthday, just me and my fiancé, and while I don't blame the woman, or regret my choices in the situation, I want to explain that we sat down next to an elderly woman who was already slurring her words, to which the young bar tender continued to serve her drinks to the point where she couldn't walk- I was sitting next to her and learned that she lived walking distance from the bar but the bartender knew he screwed up and offered to buy her an Uber. I said no, and offered to walk her home- one of their other female employees also carried her (LITERALLY CARRIED) with me. When the employee and I returned to the bar, they comped part of my meal, but I sat there and listened to the original bartender talk trash to his friends( who came in later ) about how this elderly woman had lost members of her family and how she comes in all the time and gets so drunk and cries about them!!! Like- what kind of insensitive human... WHAT?! That was in may, 2023. I went back another time later that was more like what my regular experience was- normal... order, eat, leave. But today I had my last experience being patient with this bar. My fiancé and I went in for a drink and dinner it's 12/8/2023 and we sat at the bar as we always do. We had finished eating and I went to the restroom (for the second time, which I'll mention only one female stall had toilet paper and even at that the roll was almost gone) I returned from the restroom and went to pull my chair in underneath myself but it turns out the chair was broken and I seriously pinched my finger in it- it bruised immediately. My pain is not the issue, it's just my pinky nail, but I immediately told the bartender and asked him for ice, which he gave me. But didn't acknowledge that I had hurt myself on a bar stool... fine... everyone handles things differently and I'm not unaccustomed to injury. But when I told the second bartender on staff and showed her my immediate bruise, she brushed me off with "oh ok" and they both avoided us for at least 30 minutes. (It was NOT a crowded hour) Then, because I wanted her to know I wasn't trying to gain anything by telling them the chair was broken, she said something along the lines of "yeah I know but I've been trying to tell them about these things and there's only so much I can do, you know?" Idk, I just felt like they didnt even ask if I was ok, and I have photo (and video) of my finger and chair (and bar for context) ... all I wanted was for them to say "hey I'm sorry" And not avoid me like I was being problematic... So... I don't plan to come back. Like 3 strikes you're out... and I know my single customer income won't make a huge difference, but I loved this place, and I'm saddened by my multiple (there are more) experiences that have finally brought me to the conclusion that this isn't a bar where I will be respected... really sad day...

We were looking for a beer and lunch after a rainy day hike and liked the look of this place. This typical Irish bar, had space on the bar and football on the TV fit the bill. Friendly and efficient girl working the bar took good care of all of us. I ordered a Reuben sandwich and husband got an omelette. Food took awhile but we really didn't notice, we just relaxed and watched the game. Our general feeling on the food was pretty underwhelming, 3 stars at best. Service was great but not enough that we would go back.

Good service but the food itself is small in portion and most importantly very bland. We also waited an unreasonable amount of time for our meals. Overall for the 2 1/2 hours I spent in the restaurant and the lack of flavor I'm giving this a 2/5.

Hughs requires you to look past it's awkward layout. But if you do you may be rewarded w a fine Irish pub experience. Shines brightest during major sporting events (especially soccer). Taps - 9/10 always rotating w high quality craft brews. Plenty of traditional choices in bottles too. Food - surprisingly good! It looks like the kind of place that is gonna serve you overcooked burger meat and other non-inspired fare. But, tbh the food is outstanding. Chicken is juicy and cooked to perfection. Excellent menu items that show that care and attention is spent in the kitchen. Often come here for the chicken salads/wings. Bartenders/Service - awesome. Def a little turnover w all the covid craziness. But it seems like they have a solid crew running the show now. Shoutout to Luke. Atmosphere - dark. Old school Irish pub feels. It's got sort of a strange first impression as you walk in. The bar looks inviting enough (even handsome), but it's sort of half obstructed by a large island bar in the middle (which is actually quite useful when there's good sports on). It's just a little bit of a weird layout. Has a nice patio out front too... though I tend to go there when I want to escape the daylight anyways... haha.

Great ambiance, good food and drinks and excellent service. Their kitchen is open till 10pm and the bar till 2am on Fridays and Saturdays. They have open mic on Wednesdays and live music every Thursday.

Came here one night to get some food. It wasn't too crowded when my boyfriend and I came here. He ordered the steak tips because he heard from multiple people that they were the best they've had in Mass. I got the Fish and Chips and a tiramisu to go. It was our waitress' first day which she said. She was very nice and tried to be as helpful as possible with ordering. She'd check up on us often to see how everything was going. My boyfriend's steak tips were decent. He said the food came cold and he asked for Medium but got some pieces well done and some medium. By the time he wanted to say something it was too late so that was on him. We'll be back for a round 2 on this and see if it's a better experience. The Fish and Chips were pretty good. Best battered fish I've had in Mass so far because it actually has flavour in comparison to other pubs' fish and chips and the their tartar sauce went well with it and it paired well with the battered fish. And the fish strips are a good size.

Great vibe, decent food, decent prices. They have a great rotating draft list and a chill pub atmosphere

Hardworking staff, lazy and inept management. Arrived 15 minutes prior to confirmed reservation time (related to a planned event at the restaurant), and had to wait 90 minutes to be seated as event was also delayed. Overlapping with the standing event, manager had booked a NOT-private-party of 100 children & adults but forgot to notify front of the house or kitchen staff to ensure proper preparation and proactive schedule adjustments. Manager (owner's son) did not bother to come in to help the overwhelmed staff. This lack of management allowed the party to get out of hand. Multiple children from the party treated the entire restaurant as their living room: climbing on tables and running amok to multiple tables, making messes at additional tables, resulting in patrons unable to be seated.

My party was charged different prices on the bill. I asked the waitress, was told that only the potato skins qualify .The manager that night removed one app from the bill. said she couldn't do anything else, and took down my contact info to be passed to the owner. I was appreciative, paid my bill as was due. My initial Yelp review said that IN MY OPINION the website had IN MY OPINION "false" advertising. I now correct myself to state it's IN MY OPINION "poor" advertising. FIRST EMAIL: alleged Owner reached out to me, said that there was a Gameday menu for the $6 apps and that I misunderstood the promo, offered a giftcard for next visit; asked me to take down my review. I replied that I was planning to return because the food was decent and enjoyed my time aside from the misunderstanding about the promo., HIS SECOND EMAIL: asked me again to remove my Yelp review because it would "damage...my business's reputation". Thought an alleged owner asking me to do that at all was in poor taste, decided not to return. HIS THIRD EMAIL: Alleged owner reached out asking if I'd still like to return; I told him I'd think about it. HIS FOURTH EMAIL (received today, approximately 1 month after initial visit and my Yelp review): alleged owner stated he would pursue legal action for slander if I didn't remove my comment. ... Needless to say, steering clear of alleged owner Shane S and his establishment.

Been here twice within the last few days and BOTH times got the mussel and fries starter. Life. Changer. Service was great and drinks were good, too! Def wanna go back and try more food on the menu!

My buddy and I were in Malden we drove by and said here that looks like a great place to eat, let's try it. Got lucky found a parking space across the street. Walked in, The atmosphere was dark and dingy. Old school bar atmosphere. We both had our masks on but not over our nose, we did not get a hello. We didn't have any type of acknowledgment from the host. Except a rude actually extremely rude put your masks on over your nose. As if he was a teacher talking to a second grade class. Very rude. Anyways we said table for two because we've never tried this place and the menu actually look decent, as we got to view the menu outside as they had one on display. It was mostly bar food but the burgers didn't sound bad. Anyway they showed us to this disgusting table on the side of the bar that look more like a waiting area when the whole restaurant was available they had bar seats they had booths down at the back but they showed us something in the front at the window segregated from the rest of the bar. The host was extremely extremely rude person. If he's not the owner I would suggest the owner fire this person. I got a real bad feeling in my gut as did my buddy. I looked at him he looked at me we turned around and we left. I would like to state that I never did you get to try any of the food or drinks. I couldn't get by the extreme rudeness of the host. He had a really bad attitude and definitely did not try to make us feel comfortable in this establishment. So I give one star to customer service and atmosphere of the restaurant. As for the food who the heck would want to eat in such an atmosphere with such a bad aura going around and with bad help. I would just avoid the establishment save yourself some trouble.

If I may yes I do understand what this site is here for. It was a bit disheartened to read many of the posts on here many with much detail and full of what I see as the "Me World" we all live in now. We all have opinions, we all have a point to make us feel better I suppose, however not all need to hear your thoughts. Indicative of what we see and read nearly every day. I will say that I've I traveled a lot both in the continental US and to Europe and had good fortune to stay and dine in many top notch establishments. And as a result have much enjoyed the experiences. I can also say I'm a longtime patron of Hugh O'Neill's and very much hold a different opinion than most of the naysayers presented here. I've gotten to know most of the ownership, staff and many of the regular's over time. We see many enterprises have difficulty staffing since Covid and though hard to believe even staff members have a bad day. Have I seen backups, some long waits for food, large unexpected crowds showing up and presenting challenges like anywhere else you can go, well yes. Though challenging for the owners and staff they seem to work through it and I've seen people move on as they weren't willing to wait or perhaps didn't have the time to spare. Just a point of reference my own family owned and operated a local restaurant and this happens. My thoughts are I always feel welcome, the environment is cozy and decorated for holidays and events, and they pour quite a good pint of Guinness. The menu covers the needs of many, the chef is a longstanding staff member and is always recognized by regulars each time he gets to get away from the kitchen. The front of the house staff is friendly and there can be some banter back and forth when they are not quire so busy and the bar staff does well at reading most of us and wants to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. The ownership will greet you, give an handshake and hang out for a pint if the schedule permits. When I had a very close family member pass we had a Celebration of Life here and I was able to bring in 100 people. It was all done very professionally with great respect for the event, the food was amazing and my family was together for a special sendoff. I will always be thankful for this time. I recommend you visit Hugh O'Neill's without preconception, without a bias from someone else and you may well have a great experience, great food, a seasonable drink, be treated well and find you actually like the place. I highly recommend this restaurant! While it can get busy there for dinner time it is definitely worth the wait for their delicious shepherds pie and their french fries are also tasty too! The atmosphere is also very friendly! And I would definitely recommend trying out this place when you have the chance to! However, making a reservation is highly recommended!

Went here on a Saturday night for the first time a while back and expected it to be a full house, which it wasn't. We had four people in our party and the service was nice and fast, and very friendly. The atmosphere was not it though, and it was definitely a dive bar. The food was terrible, but I guess I should've expected it. We got poutine, which was not good at all, and the place across the stress "Faces" has amazing poutine compared to here, if you're looking for it. Next I had gotten the Ruben, which was still just meh. One half the sandwich had almost no meet in it and it was just flat out not good. I feel bad because the staff is very nice, but the food is gross. I would recommend this place for some drinks on a night out, but if you plan to get food I wouldn't come here with so many other options around.

Came here after trying Boda Borg tonight with a group of 10. They have an excellent beer selection. We shared nachos as a group and I got the crispy chicken wrap with sweet potato fries. Everything came out warm and fresh. The music was a bit loud but it was easy to adjust to it. I will be back.

I enjoy the cozy family like atmosphere that this restaurant gives off. My waitress was out if this world and really made my friend and I feel as if she was only serving us. You get a bang for you buck here and it is well worth it. I had ordered the chicken sandwich which came with a grilled chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, gouda cheese (melted), avocado, and bacon. Let me tell you it was DELICIOUS. I ended up bringing leftovers home and I had offered it to my brother and he had a feast. I recommend coming here, come one come all you won't regret. Went to Hugh Oneills recently for my fiancés birthday. Group of 6. Clearly a very new waiter. He was very pleasant. Great personality. Unfortunately he had no idea what he was doing. 6 people in party. 4 ordered meals. 2 ordered appetizers as their entree. The 2 that ordered appetizers as their entrees received them about 20 minutes before the other 4 in the party. Very awkward. The waiter had no clue. I ordered the Dom's steak tips. comes with fries and veggies. I asked if I could substitute a small Ceasar salad for the veggies that comes with the meal. Waiter said no problem. Meal came out. Steak tips I was excited about were overcooked (ordered medium rare, they were well done). And fries did not come with the ceasar salad, instead veggies on the plate. I inquired if the fries were on the way. he brought them, and then there was a charge on the bill for those potatoes. Very disappointing. On a brighter note, the chicken tenders, and and quesadilla appetizers that were ordered as a meal and came out 20 minutes before the rest of the guests meals were very good

If you're not open until 2 am change your info. The second time you've turned away a local bartender at 1:01 am. Get your ish together, hacks.

This place has gone down hill over the past few years. Used to be a great place to meet up with friends and have some fun. Weekends used to have DJs and dancing. Now there's just mid week trivia and open mic nights. It seems they're going after an older crowd now. Lots of specialty beers which is nice but also seem to cater to a different crowd. Beer prices are high and you have to look at a menu. The taps have not logos so you never know what's on tap. Odd prices for the beers too which makes no sense. $6.83 or $7.39?? Why not keep it simple? If you're looking for a quit place to have a dinner and fancy beer this is the place. Food is great, especially the steak tips. Get a table if you want to eat as service at the bar is slow.

BIG THANK YOU TO HUGH O'NEILL'S! Hugh O'Neill's did a great job with a retirement celebration happy hour. They let us reserve the patio, and they moved around the tables and set up umbrellas for us so the atmosphere would be just right. The servers took awesome care of our group, were really attentive, and made sure everyone was happy and well-fed and had drinks. Folks kept saying they couldn't get enough of the fries (both the regular fries and the sweet potato ones are delish!), and everyone enjoyed all the food and their drinks. The event was just what we wanted -- really comfortable and everyone was really well-taken-care-of!

I AM IN LOVE WITH THE STEAK TIPS!!! I originally learned of this place through my boyfriend, been coming here for a while. The staff is very kind and will go above and beyond. I have ordered something from lunch and instead of say no right the way they did their best to accommodate my needs. I can't forget the fries, they are so crispy yet also soft on the inside. This place has become my go to place for when I want food that doesn't disappoint, good service and disconnect.

Pretty good place for brunch. Liked how they open at 10 am for Sunday brunch, which was helpful before a day at Boda Borg. The menu has some solid selections from various egg dishes to more sweet items. I liked my Eggs Benedict a lot and the grilled cheese my friend got looked soo good. This looks like a good place to come watch a game as they have plenty of TVs and a relaxing atmosphere. Update: Have been back and it is still an enjoyable place to grab a drink and eat, especially if you are going to Boda Borg. The location is great, especially if people are coming from North of Boston. LOVE THE GRILLED CHEESE!

Had the chance to get the ribeye special a while back. I usually don't splurge on the higher priced meals but it was worth every penny and I would do the same if I am hungry enough for it again and it is available. I don't recall exactly how much it was (maybe $21-23), so it was a bargain in my opinion. Good beer selection, friendly staff. Usually there is a weekly taco special that is excellent as well.

I was in search of a good Irish boil for St. Patrick's Day dinner and landed on takeout from Hugh O'Neill's. When I arrived, there was a hostess outside that was standing around, so I politely asked where I could pick up my order. I was the only person within earshot and she refused to speak to me, more than once. After going indoors to seek assistance, it became clear that the top priority at Hugh's was to fit as many drinking patrons as possible. Not a smooth pickup process for food during a pandemic, and I definitely didn't feel welcome as an Asian POC. I won't be back.

This is the best pub in Malden, period! Over 20 micro brews on tap plus a fully loaded liquor shelf - whiskeyyyyyy. Fun and engaging staff. Open early and open late. The kitchen/food is appropriately priced for what you get and yummy for what it is. They are great with making any dietary changes (within reason) to best suit your needs/palate. They usually always have something going on, trivia, live music, open mic, Seisun! Don't go to that pub in the old fire station down the street (the food there is meh, ambiance: a little stuffy), you'll have a much better time Hugh's, a big yet cozy Irish pub!

I went here to watch the Patriots in the playoffs and got exactly what I expected: a pub with a great beer list, greasy food, and a rowdy crowd that was ready to cheer and boo on command. The beer list was excellent, but I don't think I'd order wine or a cocktail from here despite them being on the menu; it just doesn't feel like the place for that. I ordered the grilled cheese, which was pretty good! I got a side of Ceaser salad with it, though, which was a mistake. It was soggy from the dressing as if they'd made it much earlier that day; even the tomatoes were a bit mushy. My fiance didn't have much better luck with his side of fries though - they were quite soggy and greasy. The service was pretty good and the waitress was very attentive (impressive considering how busy it was). However, the place was kind of dirty - specifically the seating that was covered in crumbs and a bit sticky. I know it's a pub, but wiping down the chairs goes a long way. I'd be back to watch a game for a fun time, but likely would just stick to beer and maybe the $6 appetizer specials (this does not include all appetizers, only select ones; this was not specified until we got there which was slightly annoying after reading $6 apps on the website for the Pats game) that they have on certain game nights.

We came here for Thursday night trivia and dinner, and had an OK dinner experience, but found the trivia environment to be a bit lacking (biggest complaint being that it was almost impossible to hear the host!) For my meal, I had the Guinness beef stew, which was hearty and filling - I would order it again. The corn and leek fritters were an interesting concept, but had a mild taste of slightly-too-old frying oil having been used. I still ate them anyways (the taste wasn't too overpowering), but it definitely wasn't a "wow" kind of dish. My husband got the chicken dinner, which was just OK. To be fair, this is perhaps the type of place that you go to for friendly faces and good drinks (and the service was indeed solid), as opposed to for culinary masterpieces, but I've had better pub food elsewhere in the area. The trivia experience, as alluded to earlier, was a bit of a bummer. We enjoy the format of Geeks Who Drink (the company that comes in to host trivia), but the acoustics in this place were horrible. Everyone was getting frustrated about not being able to hear the host, and the host was in turn getting frustrated... it was just not a great combination. I left with a massive headache and a vow to find a better alternative in the area for Thursday night trivia. I'd be willing to give this place another chance (and having another cup of that beef stew does sound appealing...), but it probably won't be for trivia night - not being able to hear is one of my biggest pub trivia pet peeves.

I want to preface by saying the food was incredible and so was the beer selection. I've been here a few times and always sat at the bar and received great service. However, I sat at a table this time and received the worst service I have ever experienced. My best friend and I work in the restaurant industry and are therefore incredibly understanding, but this was atrocious. Our waters were left empty, she forgot to enter some of our food, she left empty beers on our table, and straight up ignored us for over a half hour in the middle of our meal. I'd like to blame this on the way they rotate tables, because I get that she had tables all over the restaurant, but I saw the server walking around doing nothing multiple times as we were being ignored. She came into our section about twice within a half hour and didn't even look in our direction as we were trying to flag her down for more beer. The HOST was doing more work than our server. Seriously, promote THAT girl. Anyway, she ignored us for another 30 minutes after we asked for the check, and only finally brought it to us once we got up from the table with our coats on and stood at the host stand waiting. We also tried to flag down ANOTHER server during this time, and she totally ignored us too. Like I said, I'm understanding. But this was terrible. I couldn't even believe how bad it really was. Poutine? Great. Beer? Great. Servers? Absolutely horrible.

Came here for a late night snack around 10:30 pm after a round of quests at Boda Borg. We had a large party of 11 and they were able to put tables together in the back to accommodate us. The service was good and the food, so well priced! I got mozzarella sticks with marinara sauce on the side, grilled cheese with sliced apples with a side of sweet potato fries. I was in the mood for no-fuss comfort food -- I needed something warm and gooey encased in toasted carbs. This hit the spot! The quality is reminiscent of when I ordered this for room service at a hotel. A no-fuss bar with solid comfort bar food at an amazing price!

Review is for the dinner service only: Standard pub fare. Steak tips are solid. Chicken fingers satisfy the craving. Haven't had any of their out of the box specials, but doesn't seem like a place I would venture too far off the standard menu. Service is okay, nothing to write home about. Glad they survived the pandemic as every neighborhood deserves a decent Irish pub. If Faces is packed with hip cool kids, give Hugh O'Neills a go. It's a solid spot and they pour a nice Guinness.

This place used to be one of my favorites but I'm over it-- came here tonight and they got every single order wrong, even though they had barely anyone in the place on a Saturday it was like they were paying half attention. I ordered bbq wings and they gave me Buffalo which made me absolutely sick to my stomach, cooked my friend's burger all wrong, they were an absolute mess-- I hate leaving bad reviews, I truly do but it just felt as if they could've cared less and after a really really awful day it was the last thing I needed. Not coming back anytime soon.

The outdoor patio is so cute, welcoming and perfect for a sunny summer day like when we went. Talita went above and beyond with excellent service! The eggs, cheese and avocado breakfast was the best scrambled eggs I've ever had- so soft and delicious. Potatoes and sweet potato fries cooked to perfection!
