Where to Go in France if You Love Wine - AFAR

"A measured, wine-focused dining experience in the fifth arrondissement where chef Tomy Gousett turns out refined plates—duck pâté topped with fig in a flaky crust, tender Iberian pork with roasted parsnip and carrots, and poached pear with cinnamon and caramel ice cream—paired with serious bottles, including an elegant 2016 Meursault noted for its light minerality." - Kristin Braswell

You can tell they take great pride in their offerings, the dishes were all very good, wonderful flavors. We had a large group, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their dishes. FYI, they have wine but no beers or liquors on their menu.

Google
A gem of a place! Great atmosphere, great service and fantastic food- all for a reasonable price. We will happily go back

Attentive waiters with excellent service. Turned background music volume down so that our group can converse better. Food was well presented and taste awesome.

The food was really delicious and beautifully displayed. The staff was friendly and helpful, but there was a long waiting time to be seated as our table was not ready and also after ordering the wait was long.

Google
Great ambiance and even better food.lthe servive was quick and despite knowing that we only have the table until 9:30 (we had a first service reservation) we did feel a little rushed out at 9:15.

Google
I've 2 questions, 1.can't feel the flavor/umami of the scallops beside the tender texture...Wonder if that's the plan? 2.the cuttle fish’s top skin is too chewy for the knife I got,so hv to upside down it every time I cut it. Recommend to give customer the steak knife for that plate. Overall, Its a nice experience,do like the delicate meal.

Yelp
What a cute place Hugo & Co is....! As soon as you walk in this cozy, intimate atmosphere takes you in and you know you are bound to enjoy your evening. The menu is short, but their food is delicious! Love the way it's presented on the plate and the taste will make you want to come back. Great service compliments entire experience. They are polite, well mannered, knowledgeable, swift and efficient. Reservations should be made in advance.

Yelp
We couldn't have enjoyed our dinner more at the cozy Hugo & Co. what a special little place. The wait staff were friendly and attentive - and the chef and kitchen staff were AMAZING! We started with the pate and tapioca (minus the pastrami for our vegetarian family member). Both were excellent. My husband still raves about his cod main dish, I had the delicious crispy steak, and they happily made a special main dish for our vegetarian. For dessert we shared the coffee and chocolate ice cream - all so good and wonderfully unique. We highly recommend Hugo & Co. The menu may look small, but we found something for everyone in our party.

Yelp
Hugo&Co was on a list that I saw on some website somewhere, and that was enough to get me to book a reservation. Great decision! The ambiance is cute. The servers started off by taking our bags and coats, and the menus came out, in French and in English. Interesting. It's a little bit small inside, though that seems par for the course for restaurants of this type in Paris. We ordered a number of dishes and simply cannot rave more about how beautiful some of the dishes are, and how great they tasted. The sashimi-type dishes in particular had a nice tasted, and nothing was awful. Ordered dishes include: - Smoked haddock, quinoa, avocado, red endives & fried capers - Chestnuts veloute with white button mushrooms, croutons & chives - Braised chuck steak & fois gras, red wine sauce & mash potatoes - Pasta with black truffle, chickpeas, ham & gravy - Crispy yellow poultry, curry sauce, burned leeks & mashed potatoes - Roasted meagre fish, briased fennel with parmesan Just do it. If you want tap water though, ask for that specifically. Restaurants in France tend to bring out something bottled, which will tack on 5 EUR per. Oh, just remembered a final note. The foods were all good to great, but the dessert we got was whatever at best.

Yelp
We walked past this restaurant several times and finally was able to stop in on our last night in Paris. I fully regret not having gone sooner as we could have dinner there more than once! They won the bistro of the year award 2019. Well deserved! Hands down our favorite meal in Paris by far. If they had pan seared foie gras as well I would have said I could die a happy woman. Alas their only downside if I could think of one. Our waiter was super friendly and patient and spoke English. We went with his recommendations of starters: Tapioca cakes- beautifully plated and equally yummy Bao- delicate piece of fried chicken in a Bao? Top it off with an amazing sauce (made with korean gochujang and perhaps either chinese bbq or hoisin says). #winning Calf tongue- it was so creatively played with tongue sliced under the leek that it's looked like a masterpiece and kids even asked for some. Alas I fessed up what it was because I was not about to waste ANY of this dish if they didn't like it lol For our entrees we had the: hangar steak- deliciously done and thinly sliced. A tad rare for medium rare but it was fine one minutes. It also came with these little potato herbed croquettes that even a healthy eater would splurge on Grilled salmon with ricotta raviolis and arugula- seared salmon with little fried son tons filled with ricotta and arugula. Again my beautifully plated Desert: Honey Foam with orange ice cream and thin candy disc Corn ice cream with popcorn and hazelnut cake salted caramel butter No kidding these deserts were devoured in seconds. Again beautifully done and the contrasting flavors worked perfectly together. There were even a few corn nuts in the dish! Wine was nice as well Hope they are still around when and if I ever come back. It will be one of my first stops!

Yelp
The food was actually pretty good. But someone started vaping inside the restaurant and it was annoying so we had to leave quickly. The restaurant staff seemed OK with it even though it's almost certainly against the law... Hence the well deserved 1-star rating. If you'd actually like to taste your food instead of tasting someone else's toxic waste air, don't go here...

Yelp
Found this charming new restaurant through eater and love the dinner. Restaurant is super easy to get to, about 3-4 minutes walk from the station Place Mont. The restaurant is super cozy, stylish and decor is contemporary, Reservation is a must as it was full in a Thursday night at 9:30pm. Reservation online is quick and simple, I like the small plates we ordered, including the marinated raw fish and the bao (steamed bun). The main we ordered was excellent: braised beef cheek with a generous piece of seared foie gras on top. Overall great experience and as a break to your traditional French bistro.

Yelp
Hugo & Co. didn't disappoint ! Space is small & cozy with an open kitchen layout. I was welcomed very warmly and the waiter guided me through most of the menu. Service was excellent throughout my meal. Settled on the tapioca appetizer (order it !) and the Daurade as a main. Great choices. Bread was super good as well. With sparkling water (€4) and a class of Morgon (€8), total was €43. Skipped dessert as I was full ... so will have to come back !

Yelp
TL;DR Excellent modern takes on French classics. After a lovely afternoon in the Louvre, my wife and I were looking for solid dinner options. However, we quickly realized that we should have made a reservation, as many of the places we wanted to go to were booked solid. We then came across Hugo & Co which looked amazing! We tried to book a 9:30pm reservation for that night and received an email confirming the receipt of our reservation request and warning us to wait for an actual confirmation. We quickly rushed back to the hotel to shower and change, and I called to follow up, since I had not received a confirmation. I used google translate to come up with the phrase I needed to ask in French, dialed, and held my breath. Thankfully, After absolutely butchering the French language, the gentleman on the other end of the line told me he speaks english and asked what I was calling for because he couldn't understand me. Relieved, I asked if my reservation request was confirmed. He told me sadly they were booked solid for the night, but then asked me about my party size (2) and preferred time (9:30). He then told me he could probably fit me in at the bar, but I had to be on time. I thanked him profusely and ran over. We arrived early and the restaurant was packed. It is a really nicely styled ~40 seat place and despite what he told me on the phone, he quickly ushered us to an absolutely perfect table for 2. There were only 2 front of the house staff taking ordered, bussing tables, running food, and seating diners, but they were very personable and did a great job. Ultimately, though, the food was amazing. We started with a fancy croque monsieur with black truffle, fried tapioca, bao buns, and a Gorgonzola and pear crostini (don't judge us). For entrees, my wife ordered the fried salmon with pickled veggies, curry, and lentils and I ordered the braised beef cheeks topped with a pamasean tweel and seared fois gras. The food blew us away! Everything was amazing and an absolutely amazing experience. Highly recommend!

Yelp
An absolute fantastic meal. It started with the lovely sheep's milk cheese with a dark cherry jam and chili powder (not spicy!). The side of delicious French bread paired very nicely with it. Then our meal continued with our amazing entrees. The s/o got your tricked out Mac n cheese (pasta with ham and cheese and some black truffle shavings on top). It was delightful. Also - the portion size was jusssst right. Not too much, not too little. I had an amazing seared (snackée) beef cheek (joue de boeuf) with foie gras and a side of mashed potatoes! It was absolutely scrumptious. I enjoyed every single bite. Afterwards, dessert was simply scrumptious. It was our last night, so we splurged and got both the rice pudding and the coffee tart - absolutely delicious. The restaurant itself is off the tourist path and is decorated really nicely. The wait staff were sooo cool and helped us out with our super bad French (English menus). Make a reservation! It was busy on a Tuesday night!

Yelp
Hugo and Co was recommended by the concierge at the hotel I was staying at with my cousin on the rue Monge...literally, across the street. The restaurant is only four months old but has already received local acclaim. The space is eclectic in its design, hip yet warm. The food could not have been better. We shared a split artichoke that came with a dipping sauce that had us wiping up every last trace with bread. This was followed by a lentil salad and salmon that were exquisitely prepared. We ended with a dessert of fried Madeleine balls in a lemon curd. Perfection all around. The waiters could not have been more friendly and efficient. It is clear they love being at this up and coming culinary jewel. And the winner is HuGO! Well done!

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic meal at Hugo & Co. The food is a modern twist on classic French cuisine and is hands down one of the best dining experiences I've had, from the reservation to dinner. We had the prime rib, beef shank and pasta. The mash potatoes that came with the beef shank and prime rib is some of the best I've had. We left with our bellies full. We're so glad to have added this to our Parisian experience.

Yelp
Great place for tapas to share, and main courses are also shareable. Four of us at lunch shared the salmon with quinoa, cheese, artichoke with dip, and a lamb shank main as well as a fromage blanc and fig tart. Perfect meal, ended up just over €15 each. The lamb and fig tart were the best flavors, and the others were also good and fresh just not as strongly flavored.

Yelp
We chose Hugo & Co as our splurge dinner during a one week mother-daughter trip to Paris (her first time, my fifth) and are tickled pink to report it hit all the marks. It was just down the street from our apartment on rue Monge. Outstanding service, ambience and food. Oh, the food! Smoked prime rib was heavenly. We sat at the bar and were hypnotized by the efficient and proficient kitchen. Darling waiter who struck the perfect balance between fun and professional service.

Yelp
After much anticipation of arriving in Paris and making our reservation at Hugo @ Co I simply can not rave about this place. The menu has changed and was full of boring fare - bao bon roll with friend chicken - come on. The cheese appetizers were unimaginative. So we order the hanger steak. It arrived at our table in less than five minutes and was so over powered with soy source it left me nonplussed. I looked to my new wife and we knew - time to split and go with what we knew. So we did just that and we're happy we did albeit 40 less with two drinks and a fifth of a pound of hanger steak. Given the accolades this restaurant has received and that we were Americans in Paris and that Tony the head chef is American we were hoping for remarkable. Our meal was unremarkable and fell far, far short.

Yelp
By far the best meal we had in Paris - fantastic mix of Asian and French cuisines combined into delicious food. The staff is super friendly, the prices are quite reasonable, the wine by the glass is great and a lot less than most other places in Paris. We ended up going twice and tried most of the menu - everything is stunningly good, including the desserts.
