"You’re rallying the crew for a last-minute brunch and the only people who have mustered the strength to text you back want something kind of healthy. You’re starving and maybe still drunk and the last thing you need right now is to be sitting outside for an hour and a half waiting for a salad. Go to Hugo’s. This West Hollywood establishment has been around since 1980 and is basically a neighborhood diner, but one that happens to serve really good vegan food." - brant cox
"Hugo’s in Weho has been serving “whole food” meals long before it was trendy—we’re talking since the ‘70s. It’s managed to avoid all the nauseating pretension that comes with having a health bent by serving unfussy dishes like pan-seared salmon bathed in a white wine sauce, turkey meatloaf, and veggie patty casseroles with a cap of melted mozzarella on top. It’s conveniently open daily from 8am through dinner, so head to Hugo’s if you need a light breakfast, lunch, or dinner in Weho. Also, if you are of the gluten-free variety, this is your El Dorado." - sylvio martins, brant cox
"If you’re gluten-free and sick of being offered cardboard masquerading as toast, or having to eat your eggs with a side of nothing, get to Hugo’s. This might be an unapologetic “health” restaurant, but it’s also been around since the 70s, is not at all pretentious, and is actually very tasty. Almost everything can be made gluten-free, and there’s a dish called Almond Energy Pancakes which have to be healthier than regular pancakes." - jess basser sanders, brett keating
"Open since 1975, Hugo’s is a West Hollywood staple that’s a great place if you or anyone in your group is vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free. Whether you’re in the mood for chilaquiles, avocado toast, or steel-cut oatmeal, everything at Hugo’s will fill you up while also being somewhat healthy. Their expanded sidewalk patio on Santa Monica Blvd. is a good place to throw back some mimosas and bellinis." - brant cox
"Hugo’s is a West Hollywood mainstay, and one of the original healthy restaurants in LA - they’ve been around since the ’70s. But despite whatever nightmarish vision a “healthy cafe in Weho” conjures in your mind, Hugo’s is surprisingly unpretentious and easy to get in and out of for a weekday lunch. There’s no scene or gross in-crowd, just your everyday neighborhood spot (frequented by actual locals) that also happens to serve healthy food." - jess basser sanders, brant cox
