Man Responsible for Bringing Mongolian Barbecue to America Has Died | Eater LA

"I learned that the very first Colonel Lee’s Mongolian BBQ opened in Northridge in 1969 as John C. Lee’s initial location to introduce Mongolian barbecue to Americans, using the buffet-selection-to-cook format that became the chain’s hallmark and served as the springboard for its expansion across Los Angeles and California." - Mona Holmes

Food and service were as expected. Which was good. But the restaurant looked a little run down, dated. Bathroom could have used attention. Also some staff, not my waiter, seemed less than motivated. The high light was the grill master. Good talk. Tipped him good.

We had one of these nearby when I was in high school, and I think of it often. So, when we drove through a city that had a HuHot, we had to stop in. It was great. Not quite as great as I remembered it, but it has been a long time, and I really liked being able to mix my own stir fries. And honestly the pricing is relatively low compared to what other restaurants are charging right now, especially for kids.

A very unique and great experience you mix your own raw food in the cafeteria buffet, then bring it to the big round skillet and they fry it up right in front of you! Excellent food great cooks was very impressed 👍

Hailey our server was absolutely amazing! She went above and beyond to make sure my daughter's 1st experience here was awesome! Tim was working the grill and he was awesome! Thank you Tim for making sure our food was cooked perfectly!Hailey&Tim I want to say Thank You for your great customer service! My daughter left with a smile on her face. After leaving she said that this was her Best Birthday! If you want to explore something different from the conventional dining out &try new food, this is most definitely the best place to visit!

With make your own dishes, it suited every eating need and food preference in our group. The 3 type appetizer was delicious, especially the egg rolls and the fried dumplings. The crab ragoon was good as well, I liked the larger slivers of green onion in the mix.

Food was great as always, the cook staff always seem to have a good time entertaining. My waitress seemed as if she wasn't interested in those of us who weren't dressed as nice as others. But im not gonna dress up mid day during a softball tournament.

Great place if you are a good cook. This restaurant offers a buffer menu where the customers choose from a variety of noodles, meat options, vegetables, and sauces. The chefs will cook whatever you give them on a big grill in front of you. There was too much variety in everything, and that can be a problem. The taste of the meal depends on what you choose, and therefore it depends on the customers knowledge of the ingredients. It wasn't one of our best food, but one can say it is our lack of knowledge about Mongolian food. But how many people really know about Mongolian food and sauces? The atmosphere was good. Good for one time experience.

This is a great place to eat! Amazing experience and atmosphere. Lots of options for you to customize your dish, and it's cool to watch them cook it in front of you. I wish that they would bring the eggs back that you used to be able to add!
