I read about these hot dogs years ago and it was a must taste for our trip to Honolulu. Bread was fresh and delicious. I got the medium garlic lemon sauce with Hawaiian mustard and pineapple relish. All beef dog was juicy and perfectly complemented by the sauces and mustard. Being able to eat a hot dog with lots of sauces without getting all over me was a special treat. I saw that Anthony Boudain (RIP) had visited their stand in the past and was impressed as well. Toasting a whole loaf(similar to an unsliced hoagie roll) on a spike made for a unique experience. I’m only sorry I didn’t get a photo before I took a bite. Sooo worth the wait!

Google
Never had a dog like this before! Lots of options. The dog and bread were both fantastic. The sauce was a bit spicy for my taste, even mild, though my wife enjoyed it just fine. Get a drink too! There is a large covered area here with tables to eat at. The man working here was super cool and even helped us get some quick photos beside the cart.

Absolutely amazing. Hula Dog is hands down one of the most unique and delicious food experiences on Oahu. The sweet Hawaiian bread is perfectly soft with just the right amount of chew and the way they toast it from the inside is genius. I tried the mango relish with the spicy garlic lemon sauce and a polish sausage and it was a flavor explosion. The balance of sweet savory and spicy is unlike any hot dog I have ever had. Plus Dennis was super friendly and the vibes were laid back and fun. Whether you are a local or just visiting this place is a must try. Definitely a five star gem.

Google
Hot dogs are my desert island food and with all my travels, I make a habit of looking for the best dogs. Found one today! Thanks, Hula Dog for an exceptional one. The bread alone is worth it but come for the toppings and the kindness.

Lisa Jenkins

Google
Best hot dog I have ever had! Fresh soft buns (Hawaiian), flavor packed polish dog and the sauces/mustard were so tasty! Top it off with the nicest service and this is a must stop when in Honolulu.

Google
The guy running the stand was super nice. Food came out quick and they were delicious. As a Chicagoan, most things outside of a Chicago dog is blasphemy. But these hotdogs slap. We tried polishes with Hawaii roll, mango, and a pineapple with Hawaiian mustard. Delicious and quick meal.

Google
If you’re looking for a unique dining experience, this will check that box. Located on the side of Kapiolani Blvd just down the street from the Convention Center and Ala Moana is a small parking lot (very limited parking) with a handful of food trucks. Hula Dog is right off the sidewalk. The buns used for the dogs are what you would see in a traditional Pig in a Blanket. They are SO soft and delicious. Depending on what dog you get and add-ons will depend on taste but the one I had was absolutely delicious. The Hawaiian mustard was a great addition to the dog and made for a unique flavor. One Hula Dog will definitely fill you up for lunch or even dinner.

Google
The dogs are good, and worth checking out! I've been enjoying their unique style of island hot dogs (and polish sausages) for years. But, since the original restaurant/partnership split into 2 different restaurants (Puka Dog & Hula Dog), you can tell they lost the magic they once had. I understand legally, that certain aspects needed to be split up, and new locations needed to be established, but it just isn’t the same.

Yelp
If you're in the Ala Moana side of town, would recommend stopping by to get a polish or hula dog - the relish and sauces pair amazingly well with the hot dog, and the bread is soft yet contains all the flavors inside really well! A must-visit for sure - Miguel Morales Photography

Yelp
Didn't like the flavor. Owner's weird and had bad vibes. With so many options on the island why do business here? Will not be back. Try Puka Dog instead.

Yelp
Had the 'Classic' - not sure what he uses for 'hotdogs' and I'm not sure it qualifies as one - tasted old (?). [think 7-11 rotating dogs] Bun is Hawaiian bread (tastey) but is WAY TOO MUCH - I ended up leaving most of it and (sadly) the hotdog thingy as well Lemonade is good/Service ok

Yelp
No joke, this was my favorite meal on island. We shared the spicy hot dog on an ube bun, with lilikoi mustard and mango. We also shared the lemonade which was so refreshing on a hot day! I would go back to Oahu just for this hot dog, I'm not kidding. This was the perfect meal after a long walk from Waikiki up to Ala Moana and around Magic Island and back.

Yelp
My daughter told us about the famous Hula Dog, so we had to find it. This food truck is in a permanent location and has seating in a covered area. The Polish sausage is wrapped in an Ube roll. Ube, the purple yam, is everywhere and in all kinds of food. I've become completely enamored with it. It's dressed with liykoi mustard, mango relish and spicy garlic lemon sauce. The lavender lemonade was lovely and refreshing. You must have a Hula Dog! 3

Yelp
Taro bun for your hot dog?! Um YES PLEASE!!! Hula Dog is a food truck that you simply cannot miss during your drive or walk. They'll have their blue and yellow food truck, a sign and a flag! I definitely recommend stopping by for a snack before or after whatever plans you have. Ordering is easy, a step by step process that you can read from their menu. They have a main menu with set and stone buns or you can create your own. Pick your bun, pick the spice level, pick the relish and the mustard, the pick any additional toppings. For the relish, they have papaya, mango, coconut or pineapple. I think, whoa right!? Well, you gotta trust me and trust Hula Dog. Their relishes will make you want to try each one lol I ended up choosing either papaya or pineapple. Sorry, I can't remember. For the mustard, they have a delicious Hawaiian mustard (Lilikoi flavor) which I definitely recommend! It adds such a sweet flavor to the savory hula dog! Trust. Or you can choose Dijon or yellow. When in Hawaii, I try to get whatever I can with Li Hing Mui! So I did. I got Hula Dog's freshly squeezed lemonade with li hing mui and wow... it was the best tasting lemonade I've ever had! I'll definitely be back at Hula Dog the next time I'm in Oahu! Mahalo Hula Dog!

Yelp
I liked how every bite was a little different because of the different sauces. I went with the jalapeno, pineapple, and lilikoi mustard combo and it was the perfect balance of savory, sweet, and spicy. The polish was smooth and flavorful. I liked how the bread fully surrounded the polish. I believe the only noticable difference between this and Puka Dog on Kauai is that these buns didn't seem toasted on the inside. The service was quick and the price was good!

Yelp
Came for a quick snack, and OMG it was sooo good!! The polish dog was hot and juicy, and the garlic sauce was AMAZINGG!! I usually prefer my hot dogs plain but this was so so good!!

Yelp
Awesome and unique hotdogs! Brought the whole family and everyone loved them. Coming back for sure every time we visit Hawaii.

Yelp
OMGOSH, I had the hotdog in the taro bun, I was shookith on how tasty it was. I forgot the owners name yet he was so nice, we talked for a good minute and we forgot about the food - it burned yet he tossed it to make another. I am sure other places would have scrapped off the burnt portion and served it. I also got the lavendar lemonade and it was sweet and a lil tart - loved that as well. They are placed at a lil area that had other food establishments/trucks and it was a nice setting. would def come back again. ENJOY - Cheers!

Yelp
We found this awesome cluster of food trucks while wandering around Waikiki. One of them was the famous hula dog spot featured on Anthony Bourdain's show. The food trucks are all crammed into a small street corner, giving off a relaxed island vibe, and it's a bit away from Waikiki Beach. The service was pretty hectic, but that's to be expected with so many customers all at once. We tried the Hula Polish Dog in Taro Bread with original roasted garlic lemon sauce, Mango relish, & Lilikoi mustard & it was amazing! We ordered some other sauce combos, but this one stood out. The walk and the wait were worth it! Mahalo Hula Dog!

Yelp
I've been supporting this businesses ever since they were located in a store front at the old international market place. They were actually called PUKA DOG. Food always hits the spot! They started to use the taro sweet bread and that made a whole difference to each bite. New owners were really nice and talked stories. The only thing I disliked was the amount of sauce put into the "puka" this time around was that there wasn't enough. It was all over the place with different flavors in every bite. One sweet. One creamy. One savory. I'd wish they placed the sauce in equally like they did before.

Yelp
Everything was delicious ! We loved the signature and the classic dog. The service was great, enough seating and plenty of parking space. I recommend this place 100%. Thanks to the owner very pleasent guy
google avatar

Yelp
Tried the most basic of hot dogs, got the taro bun with polish dog, lilikoi mustard and tropical relish. It was a sweet tasting hot dog! The regular sausage itself wasn't anything to write home about, but the bread was soft, sweet, and actually tasted like taro! The menu is very expansive, and there's a lot of combinations you can create! A bit pricy for a hot dog, but definitely a must try! Service was really quick, and they cook the hotdog fresh!

Yelp
Loved Pooka Dog in Kauai, but wanted to find something similar.. this definitely satisfied the craving! Ordered two poi dogs and wow were they delicious. We also ordered the Lilikoi lemonade and it was absolutely refreshing. From the relish, to the Hawaiian mustard, and the taro buns.. this was a banger and a 100% must try! If you are in the area, it is within walking distance to many hotels or you can easily park in the garage next door. The service was quick, buns were fresh, and the toppings were cold! The outdoor seating areas will fit the need to dine outside
google avatar

Yelp
I came across this food truck on Hawaii TikTok and found it intriguing, so I made a special stop to try it. I ordered their Signature "Poi Dog," which features a hot dog served in taro bread with jalapeno garlic lemon sauce, pineapple relish, and Hawaiian mustard. The service was a bit slow because there was only one person managing both food preparation and cashier duties. The Poi Dog was certainly unique with its toppings and sauces, but personally, I wouldn't go out of my way to have it again.

Yelp
Wrap me up in a Hula Dog bun and bury me with their lilikoi mustard! I never thought I'd enjoy a hot dog so much! As all the other reviews have mentioned, great spot with great dogs and nice shared seating to enjoy that dawg. Love that you can customize your hot dog (I got the taro bun, polish sausage, medium garlic lemon sauce, pineapple relish, and lilikoi mustard). Literally the most perfect hot dog! One star off because my husband unfortunately couldn't get a veggie dog for himself because they ran out (which I heard happens often).

Yelp
Just landed with all my luggage and grabbed a dog and a drink. Finished it and thought it was great. Then ordered and waited for an uber at the table. Bald white guy came up to me complaining about homeless disrespecting his place of work. Then cheered when I got up to catch my uber that just arrived. 1) I didn't realize he was implying I was homeless and being a nuisance sitting at his table. 2) I just ordered from the guy not 5 min ago and he forgot or didn't care. 3) I guess I look like a bum.... Negative stars and not even an hour passed since I landed.

Yelp
GO HERE!!! Went here because i found it was just like PukaDog on Kauai. I got the vegetarian poi dog (taro bun with assorted sauces). My friend got the beef version. I ended up coming here multiple times during my honolulu trip. My friend whos a big hot dog girl said this was the best dog she's ever had in her LIFE! Same for me as well. The guy working there was super beyond friendly and gave us some stickers tooo. Here they toast the buns :) this is an absolute must when coming to Oahu. There is a parking lot and is only maybe 5 mins away from waikiki. Their lemonades are also super yummy
google avatar

Bri F.

Yelp
Was staying in town for a couple days and made sure to make a stop here! Really appreciate that they have a vegetarian option, since it's really hard to find a vegetarian hot dog anywhere. Everything about the food is great! Love their taro bun, all of their garlic lemon sauces are delicious, and their relish options are so unique. Can't go wrong with anything you order here! Seating can be limited since the space is shared with other food trucks and stands, but definitely worth checking out for great food and great service!

Yelp
Hula Dog is an offshoot of the original hot dog stand called Puka Dog on Kauai. We had just come back from Kauai and really wanted another Puka Dog and were excited that there was an offshoot restaurant. However, despite having the exact same branding and pretty much the same menu as Puka Dog, we found Hula Dog to be pretty disappointing in comparison. The main issue is the ratio of bread to hot dog. I love bread as much as the next person but there is wayyy too much bread. Especially if you get the Taro bread or the Hawaiian roll, the sweetness and sheer volume of the bread is going to drown out the savoriness of the sausage. You're already getting a lot of sweetness from the tropical relish (which is really good by the way) but when you add a large amount of sweet bread to the mix it totally doesn't let those other ingredients shine.

Yelp
Random little food truck parked in a parking lot with a few others. We decided to try this place based on a friend's recommendation. I got the Veggie Dog with Jalapeno Lemon Sauce and hawaiian relish in a taro bun. It was a lot of flavors but they all complimented each other. I will be back to try other things on the menu next time I'm back in Hawaii. If you're curious about this place, it was also featured on Anthony Bourdain's show a while back. Didn't know until we got there. I regret not getting a bahn mi at the time. I just wasn't hungry enough for both.
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered a Taro polish hot dog with garlic lemon sauce spicy level Harberno. I ordered tropical relish papaya, but I didn't get it:((( and with Hawaiian mustard sauce Because I didn't get the relish topping while eating, it was like, "I'm missing something." I didn't understand the spicy level because I couldn't even taste the difference or no spicy what so ever. Unless he forgot to add it on as well. Overall, it was ok. It is a unique way to eat hotdog, and the Hawaiian mustard was good.

Yelp
we love going to Hula Dog when we visit Oahu. its a food truck, so it's outdoor but they have a patio area so that you can enjoy your food there. the bread is so soft and sweet! i like to get mine a lil spicy :) also wash it down with a lilikoi lemonade the owner of the truck is a very nice guy with great service.
google avatar

Yan L.

Yelp
Maybe I don't have a sense of how much hotdogs should cost due to eating $8 bacon wrapped hotdogs from the streets, but this $12ish hotdog was very much worth it. You get to build your own hotdog or choose one from the menu. I built mine because I don't like mustard. Went twice during my trip to Hawaii. I recommend the sweet bun as well as the taro bun. Then you get to pick between four different fruit sauces. Either way they were very good hot dogs and I recommend for you to stop by here while you're in Hawaii.
google avatar

Cyndi D.

Yelp
Good size hotdog with the most delicious combinations of topping. I will definitely come back next year when we go back to Oahu.

Kimberly T.

Yelp
Tasty Dawgs, best in oahu ! The owner makes his own sauces which gives them amazing unique flavors and the breads perfect !
google avatar

Cesar P.

Yelp
Food was great, loved the mix of savory and sweet. The service was good the cashier was super friendly to us and asked how our food was. The place was nice it's a food truck but they also had tables on their right where you can sit and wait for your order.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious hula dogs, great owner, great service. Definitely will come back. Highly recommend the Hula Polish Dog

Yelp
You ever eat something so good you start dancing in your seat? As someone who likes to try new foods, Hula dog was something on my list to try during my first visit to Hawaii, I cannot stress enough how much you need to try this if love sweet bread, fun mustard, fruit relish and a not too salty hot dog! Easily needs to be in the glizzy hall of fame. If I could write a sonnet about a hot dog I would. 1. The BREAD - no matter what iteration, it is that subtle sweet soft bread that compliments the hotdog and condiments inside. It came out warm, perfectly toasted on the inside, but it only has one opening, so the hotdog and sauces don't fall out!! It's that kind of genius that Hula dog deserves it's clout. The hotdog has no chance to slip out of the bun, so you get a bite of everything with every bite. 2. The CONDIMENTS - I will admit, i'm a bigger fan of fruit than most people. But if sweet and savory is your thing, you can do no better than the lilikoi mustard and 4 different types of fruit relish they have on hand. 3. The HOTDOG - I feel like hotdogs are inclined to be salty all the time, but i'm glad this place recognizes that it doesn't have to be this way! I also had a blue ocean drink that was super refreshing. The real star of this show is this hotdog. You can't go wrong with the one they recommend, or you can even venture out on your own and make a combo dog to your choice. If this hasn't convinced you that this humble hut is worth a visit, i don't know what will. Thanks hula dog for a great meal!

Yelp
Place is amazing. If Anthony Bourdain liked it everyone should too. Many of the spots he frequented in O'ahu are closed so this is a good place to remember him by. Food is delicous. Love how you can choose your bun and all your toppings. Bun is soft and delicous. I went with the yam bun while kiddo went with the sweet bun and hubby went with the regular bun. We all went with the meat hot dog but you can get a veggie one too if that floats your boat. Loved the relishes we all went with the pineapple one which paired well with the pork. A great snack! Service though was really really slow. One chick and she does the food properly so be prepared to wait. Ambiance is fun! This is probably the only time in my 10 day stay that I did not order seafood and I am glad I didn't. So yummy!

Patricia K.

Yelp
First time having a Hula Dog and it lives up to the hype. So good! Great, friendly service.

Andrew W.

Yelp
We were hoping to get a hotdog at the football on Christmas Eve but there were no dog vendors. I was rapt to find Hula Dog at the end of our hotels street on my morning walk. The dogs and drinks here are exceptional! The gentleman running the truck offered great advice and wonderful service.
google avatar

Drea U.

Yelp
This place is different and unique. If you want a hot dog Hawaiian style -- this is the place to go! I got a hot dog in a taro bun with all the tropical sauces. It was so flavorful. There is more bread than meat but the bread is very tasty. I love how the place is a little food truck and the food is made to order. I paid $20 for 2 hot dogs. If you're unsure about the sauce you can order some on the side!
google avatar

Samantha D.

Yelp
Hot dogs are delicious!! It's a must have! Their lemonades are super refreshing. Owner is friendly and polite!
google avatar

Jeff C.

Yelp
Ok, following in the footsteps of Anthony Bourdain, this place is a Hawaiian must. This uniquely delicious hotdogs are icon, and a must try for anyone in the area. Hula Dogs' custom buns are the perfect method for hotdog snacking, and I suggest that you go traditional and follow the direction the surfboard outside to create hotdog heaven. Without a doubt, this will be one of first stops on my return to Hawaii... Mahalo, Foodies
google avatar

Melody C.

Yelp
I looked forward to trying this place after seeing the purple buns on social media. I ended up really liking the taro buns and how you could customize the hula dog. I went back again three years later and probably got the same exact thing. I only remembered not enjoying the lilikoi sauce that much after having it again. So I hope I remember to get the other sauce options next time! They have some tables and benches in front of the truck.
google avatar

Roseanne P.

Yelp
Needed a snack after a long day at the beach and we decided to stop by Hula Dog. I have eaten here years ago during my last visit and was looking forward to stopping by again. It's very simple to place an order and follow the steps. Hula Dog is such a great grab and go snack. There was a bit of a wait since we had ordered 5 of them. I had also ordered the pineapple lemonade and that was super refreshing. The hot dogs were finally ready and it was amazing! The sweet Hawaiian bread and the pineapple relish and the savoriness of the hot dog was a perfect combination. We all enjoyed this snack and it was just as good as I remembered. Hula Dog is a must visit!
google avatar

Kent V.

Yelp
Hot dog prices have gone up but feel like they are even bigger now and more filling! $10 for a polish dog but so delicious with the mango relish and mustard!! Great sweet and savory hot dogs in the softest buns! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Lauren Y.

Yelp
Hula dog was one of the stops Anthony Bourdain made when he was in Hawaii and boy did it not disappoint! Use the surfboard to help you understand the menu and enjoy! I'm only knocking a star because the bread to meat ratio in each bite is off. If they could slice the hotdog lengthwise, so that it's opened up, each bite would be more even with bun to meat ratio

Annabelle G.

Yelp
I tried Puka dogs on Kauai last April and was sad I couldn't have them this time on my Oahu trip, until I realized the Lilikoi mustard gods were in my favor I want to shove Hula Dogs down my gullet as long as I live
google avatar

Lauren B.

Yelp
Stopped by for a Saturday afternoon snack, a but hard to find parking in this area. I saw they had a taro bun and really wanted to give it a try. We paired it with the Hawaiian mustard per the cashier's recommendation. When I asked to add ketchup as well, she said it would be an additional 50cent charge. I think the 3 sauces in 1 dog is slightly misleading. Also don't really understand why ketchup costs extra at a hotdog place. Overall it is a pretty large portion and tasty! I think it is a novelty to definitely try if you're in the area.
google avatar

Alger L.

Yelp
Best Hula dog, ordered one for the first time, the. I came back the same day to get another!!!

Cara C.

Yelp
Best DAMN hit dawg everrr. First stop when we landed, obsessed w the Lilikoi mustard, cute stickers, and great service!
google avatar

Glen N.

Yelp
I want to try most things Anthony Bourdain has tried,. Well, except for that last thing. And I got the chance at Hula Dog Kuhio. On a busy street, the cart is one of three who share a clean set of tables on artifical turf with aggressive birds. Anthony Birdain will hop right up next to you to get some of that bun. Anyway, it's super easy to order: Choose your bread, dog, relish, and sauce. If I ever returned I would see if I could pay extra for another dog because I tasted mostly bread, relish, and sauce, but it was a good experience, especially knowing that it was a place where Anthony Bourdain could hang out.
google avatar

Karen P.

Yelp
Know why Hula Dog is great? Because its not rice. No 2 scoops, no musubi, no sushi, no rice bowls, no fried rice. So when you're riced out, go get a dog. A huge polish dog with all that fancy relish stuffed in a sweet or taro bun. Fun. Truck moved to Kapiolani across the convention center
google avatar

Miriam R.

Yelp
I thought this place was overall okay out of all the places I went to eat in Oahu. The hula dog reminded me of a slightly nicer version of a Costco hot dog; with the relish being the best part. Service was quick, but the seating area was almost all dirty which we had to clean ourselves with some napkins. Worth the try, but probably wouldn't be back again.
google avatar

Mark C.

Yelp
Hidden gem Service is amazing, the buns are soft like a Hawaiian roll from Costco. The flavors of Lilikoi mustard and others are amazing. It just.... Works. Give it a shot you won't regret it
