The Seattle Karaoke Guide

"If your Cap Hill bar crawl doesn’t transition into shrieking “Barbie Girl” at the top of your lungs while gulping down mai tais at Hula Hula, we can’t guarantee that your night was a success. This tiki bar is the most exciting karaoke spot in town to hang out with friends for a few drinks, whether we’re the ones singing or just watching other people ruin Elton John. Karaoke starts here every night at 7pm, so it’s easy to plan around. The only downside is that you’ll have to wait a really long time to sing on the weekends, so sit back, order a round of piña coladas, and cheer on that sad person who keeps doing "A Case Of You" by Joni Mitchell." - aimee rizzo

Hula Hula - Review - Capitol Hill - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Hula Hula used to be in Queen Anne, but has since closed and relocated to Capitol Hill. This place can get wild. The tiki drinks are delicious (we love the alcoholic berry slushies) and there are some booths you can hang out in if you don’t feel like standing. Karaoke nights here are the best - especially if the guy who always sings Frank Sinatra songs in a suit is also there." - Aimee Rizzo

Lives up to hype! Lots of karaoke! It can get packed, but that's good because its a good environment. There is also lots of seating. Also randomly meet someone and played chess 😆

Google
This tiki karaoke bar is a total gem for a fun, no-pressure night out. The atmosphere is lively and exciting, especially late into the evening when the crowd gets more animated and the drinks start flowing. Everyone—from shower singers to seasoned performers—is welcomed with encouragement and cheers, making it a genuinely supportive place to let loose on the mic. The staff here are friendly and upbeat, setting a great tone from the moment you walk in. The karaoke host runs a tight ship with an easy-to-use iPad sign-up system that lets you know exactly when you’re up—no guessing games. Pro tip: get in early and submit all your song picks up front. The host will do their best to keep you rotating through the night, and you can always adjust your choices to match the crowd’s energy. As for the drinks, the tiki cocktails and slushies are absolutely worth trying—tropical, boozy, and perfect for the vibe. I also had the poppers, which were fine but nothing to write home about. They hit the spot but aren’t the highlight of the menu. All in all, this place is a solid pick for a party night. Whether you're belting out ‘80s ballads or sipping a neon-hued rum concoction under a thatched roof, you're in for a good time.

Google
I decided to check out this bar for karaoke on a Wednesday evening around 7pm. The bar was pretty empty when I arrived, and it was just me and the staff members who ended up singing in the karaoke before I left shortly after, but I really enjoyed my visit. The bartender lady and the lady that runs the karaoke were both very kind and lovely. I am glad decided to stop by this place just before moving to New York.

Google
A fun tiki-themed karaoke bar with ample seating options, both at tables and the bar, plus a small stage for karaoke. The bartender was excellent, making it a great spot for a night out.

Google
Similar experience as other reviewers with the DJ who puts songs at the bottom of the list if you’ve sang a duet (leaving u to wait while your song gets pushed down the list all night w no warning) and then goes up and sings whenever he wants. I didn’t know everyone could only sing once, thought u sign up and sing like any other karaoke bar in the world. Also he told off a woman for going up and dancing in the stage with her friend who was singing saying “if you’re on the stage that counts as your turn your song will be skipped” DIDN’T KNOW THIS WAS THE MARINES BRO. Let people have fun weirdo take your power trip somewhere else. Would have been 1 star bc of this but the wait staff were so friendly and welcoming.

Google
Loved the food, drinks, ambience, seating, service what not, everything! Great place to visit and spend some cozy nice time with friends and partner. Oh and they have Karaoke - The main thing!!

Caitlin Craig

Google
The bartender Veronica is super supportive to new karaoke singers. I feel genuinely accepted here. Will definitely be my new spot. Nate is also mindful of people who won't respect your space, so if youre looking for a safe space as a lady, this is your place.

Google
theoretically this is a great concept — tiki bar w karaoke!! practically, it doesn’t deliver. there’s small print on the song queue that says “rotation subject to change”… what this actually means is that the KJ (Shan! there are multiple other review complaints about him already!) plays favorites and WILL bump people he knows to the top of the rotation. why do we know this? we signed up around 10, waited THREE FULL HOURS, and still didn’t get to sing; when we checked, we realized that our group had been moved down multiple numbers and other folks’ songs (songs that were previously after ours, etc… we took a video so that we knew how long we had to wait!) had been moved up. seattle friend told us this had happened before to him at this bar as well, and he’d seen people walk in, talk to the dj, and skip the line … sooo this isn’t a one time thing. TLDR: drinks were pricey, bartenders were aggressive, AND KJ Shan plays favorites !! if you want karaoke and a good vibe, go to crescent lounge down the street. this isn’t worth it.

Yelp
Had a blast! Came for a friend's birthday and it was really cool. We got there early enough to grab a good table. The service was great and the crowd was amazing. We only ordered drinks and they were good.
google avatar

Yelp
If you are looking for a place to sing karaoke and have a tiki drink this is it. The decor was really fun and the place is big so you can easily get seats. We didn't get any food, so I can't speak to that. For a drink I got the sailors mule which was not great. I think you have to go full tiki drink and accept the sugar or get a beer here. Seemed like a place we should have gone later in the night. Bartenders were friendly!
google avatar

Anna M.

Yelp
Came here because my guy loves it, and I should have known better about ordering a sweet drink, as they're not my preference. I was eager to try a tiki drink, though, and our really kind server picked up on that. They recommended a Mai Tai. They were so welcoming and friendly on a relatively quiet Wednesday night, and I did my best to act happy with my drink, but they sensed my disappointment and offered me a free drink. My guy happily took my mai tai and I ordered a vodka soda, into which I could tell they put good quality vodka :o) So I came away very happy and feeling cared for. I hope to come back on a more rambunctious night, as the atmosphere was still really fun and vibrant and I can definitely see why my guy enjoys it so much on the weekends.

Yelp
I do like my tiki bars! Hula Hula has got a great vibe - came in on a Saturday night around 8. Service was fast, drinks were strong, and there's karaoke with a lively crowd to match. What's not to like?
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Good karaoke and crowd, fun vibe. The bartender was nice! Drinks aren't great, but they're strong. Definitely avoid the food!! Had the fish and chips, not good. I don't think they've ever changed their fryer oil. It's kinda gross.
google avatar

Nithisha R.

Yelp
This is one of the best karaoke bars out there. If you want to go to a place, without thinking much and would definitely have fun, this is the place. Drinks are good. It's always crowded with decent crowd. Can spend here all night long. The vibe of the place is so lively because of the Karaoke and people dancing all around the place. It's a fun place. If you are in Seattle and want to have some fun without thinking twice, just go here!! You wouldn't be disappointed!!
google avatar

Danny P.

Yelp
Service is great. Bartenders are friendly and fast. Been coming here on and off for 20 years. Current karaoke Dj is overloaded and not good enough to run the rotation on what I'm told is a "slow" night. Signup is done via iPad which seems great but they are not intuitive and are prone to lock themselves. Sound system is good. If you wanna sing, get there early and/or prepare to wait. Good crowd.
google avatar

Marianna D.

Yelp
Came here with my friends for karaoke night and it was a night for the books. The place was so inviting and just so much fun! The drinks were amazing. After one too many shots I left my phone behind and I woke up to realize it was still at Hula Hula. When we called, the owner Owen helped me look for it and then kept it safe for me until I was able to come pick it up! Totally recommend if you're ever in the area (:
google avatar

Yelp
Dragged out of town friends to this bar because I wanted to do Karaoke. It was a slow night and perfect for a first timer here. Super fun vibe and of course tiki drinks. Signing up to sing is easy and fun. Search by song and or artist. Make a choice and wait for your name to be called. Super fun bar if you want to be a rockstar, I mean pretend to be one. Lol. Good singer, bad singer, just have fun. YOLO and SYOY.

Yelp
This was the second stop in our bachelorette bar crawl and my first ever karaoke bar. It might just be me but I was nottttt into the karaoke bar atmosphere!!! It was so dang loud and the awful singing hurt my ears so much. The constant stopping and starting of the music while the next group was coming up and getting started was annoying. We put our names on the queue pretty soon after we got there and the wait time to sing a song was RIDICULOUS. It was saying like 4 hours or something insane. And people were queued up after us too and they didn't even have wait times on there because it exceeded the count. Needless to say, we were not there for very long before we jumped to the next bar! Had way more fun singing along to songs in the limo to the next bar than standing their waiting for our turn at that one!
google avatar

Jocelyn S.

Yelp
This is such a funny little tiki karaoke bar. My friend and I came on a Monday night with no cover. The drinks are averagely priced here. The vibes inside are great, and though it wasn't packed on the Monday night, there was a good handful of people and a good audience for karaoke. If you're trying to sing, make sure to put your name on the list early, unless you're down to tip to make your name go higher. Like other karaoke bars I've been to, people also tip to cut the line here.
google avatar

Kacey C.

Yelp
I don't know why this isn't rated higher. We went for karaoke and had a GREAT time. Everyone was having so much fun. There was even a cute stage with cameras so people in the back could still watch (big place for downtown). The food was delicious, with great vegetarian options. Loved our cocktails.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow. I intentionally seek out karaoke places wherever I travel for work and Hula Hula is in a class of its own. I took 5 colleagues to the bar and our server, Hannah, was so impressive, we brought 25 folks back the following night for an official corporate event. She was attentive, informative and entertaining. The food, drinks and karaoke was top notch. What are you waiting for? Go.
google avatar

Cole J.

Yelp
Cover charge at door was eight dollars, okay, fine enough. It was a Friday night, not very busy when we got in. Put my name on the list for karaoke, despite being there for hours I ended up leaving before I was ever called. Not to mention $13 for a vodka cran! With a cover charge? Plenty of places in Capitol Hill you should go before ever contemplating entering this place.
google avatar

Rick C.

Yelp
The drinks and wait staff are good. Karaoke dude who was late, a jerk, and had a screwy system was enough to ruin a good time. We'll get our karaoke elsewhere, thanks.

Yelp
I'm sorry, I really wanted to love this place. I mean, karaoke 7 days a week, 365 days a year? Yes please! However, the system to actually input your name and then your song is God awful. If your main entertainment is karaoke, you'd think that you'd have that shit dialed in. The touchpad to create an account and then enter a song in is spotty, glitchy and the DJ has zero patience for anyone using the system. I've seen karaoke bars that use a paper system and a huge binder of songs 5x more efficiently than this shit show. We were there for 4 hours and each got one song in (out of 3 people). Yes, it was a Saturday but that is some high level karaoke mismanagement. Moreover my bill for 2 people was $160 with tip. Uhhhh, sorry, charging exorbitant prices for drinks at a bar who makes their name on karaoke is not in any way, shape, or form acceptable. The wait staff was nice, so they had that going for them.
google avatar

Akanksha G.

Yelp
My absolute favorite karaoke night spot!! I've been here several times, and I've never been disappointed. From the moment you enter, you feel the Hawaiian theme - but there's no requirement to pick tropical themed songs. I personally don't drink, so I can't comment on their beverages, but it's a great time even for sober folks. The vast song selection makes it easy to find something for everyone, and I love that they ensure that a song can only be sung once that night. This way, even if you aren't the one singing on stage, you get to enjoy a variety of songs and not just the same few repeatedly. The crowd is super relaxed and supportive, regardless of how well (or poorly, if you're like me) you sing. Plus, with the cheap cover charge, it's the perfect place to spend the entire evening. I absolutely adore this spot and can't wait to be back!

Yelp
Hula Hula is a classic place to have some fun in Seattle. While mildly overpriced, the drinks are delicious and taste like vacation, and the food selection is really good as well as tasty. The crab rangoons are a must try and the totchos (or vegan totchos) are amazing! The service is consistently good here, and my only complaint is that they do karaoke 7 days a week (may not be a complaint for some) so it is never quiet or super chill there. A day a week or two designated to just the cool decor, music, and drinks would be a great consideration. I don't always want to listen to karaoke is all!

Yelp
The proud boys Customer Service. Here What happened to me yesterday to meet my colleague for a drink. Arrived and I was welcomed nicely by the security that most of them are familiar as I live in the neighborhood. I set with my friend and she ordered a drink for me. A bartender girl came to her and asked her the following : Do you know him?  My colleague answered that she knows me( god I was saved! After a little bit, another white bartender girl came to her and asked her the same question with more little proud boys spices. Do you really know him? Are you sure everything is okay?. My friend was chocked and she told me if maybe I killed someone there to deserve such a deep investigation knowing that I live in the neighborhood and all the bartenders around the area know me very well and I have a wonderful relationship with everyone except for sure the proud boys. I was there a few minutes from the time I'm writing this review today 2/22/24 and I asked about the owner but it seems that he is not working at night, so I asked about the manager to get some clarification as I felt discriminating and not respected especially with my colleague. I had a chance to talk to Omar "  the famous proud manager " who supposedly know that customer service is the key of any business success. Before I tell him anything, he initiated the conversation, I know why you are here he said? About yesterday correct? A customer complained about you. A girl came to us and complained about you misbehaving or disrespecting her or whatever? When customer complained about another customer then we go ask his friend but not him. Know that I didn't had any conflict that day or talked to anyone except my colleague. Omar wanted to fight me but I didn't want to play his game. I told him that it is not good to judge a book from its cover. American proud dream.

James D.

Yelp
Never have a bad time when Vron is bartending. I always feel super welcomed. People complain about the karaoke rules, but they're just trying to make sure everyone gets a fair deal going up to sing.
google avatar

Bingying L.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday night for karaoke! They had virgin Pina coladas which I actually really enjoyed! We waited about 2 hours to sign our song but that's expected as it was pretty crowded. We also got the jalapeno poppers and it's fried so...can't complain. $5 cover on a Saturday around 8pm and I believe it bumoed up to $8 after 9pm.

Johny C.

Yelp
Don't go on Thursdays this dj is rude and disrespectful. Also bad at singing. Was also taking bribes from people ugh

Morgan P.

Yelp
We went for the first time for a friends birthday, we had an absolute blast. The fries were absolutely amazing. Though be prepared the drinks are pricey when you're not used to Seattle bars.
google avatar

Sidéwon Andre N.

Yelp
This bar seems like a staple in the neighborhood. I visited with some coworkers and had a pretty good time. Bartenders are fast which I love and make a solid drink. Karaoke is performed and there is a gas station next door if you need to grab anything before stepping in. Cover was $5. Only con is it's pretty small so it can be tight in there trying to maneuver around.

Clayton H.

Yelp
Really liked the vibe but the karaoke dj (Wednesday) was really not it. He showed porn on the screen many times. Loved the bartender!
google avatar

Sidney T.

Yelp
You can literally see all the action from the windows looking in. We were across the street looking for a bar and Hula Hula set ALL the vibes for the remainder of our night. Amazing slushies that provides both fruity flavors and all the intoxication to give you the courage to go on stage. Cover charge on Saturday night was $6, which is really not bad for a place this poppin! Open mic karaoke is free, but you can always tip the DJ to bump up your song. They call each name for about ten seconds to see if that party is still there, and skip to the next person in line to get the music moving. Apparently they have a loooong line of singers! Not much parking at Capitol Hill and also very hard to catch Uber/Lyft in this area due to all the traffic. But very worth checking out if you're in the area!

Yelp
Hula Hula is a very Popular Karaoke Tiki Bar. You have to wait by the door until the waitress comes check your ID and Vax card. You also have to wear your mask while singing and walking about. The VJ will remind you to wear your Mask while Singing since she did not disinfect the Mic in between Singers. If You don't like wearing masks, then you can't come inside here. But There's an outside patio where people can hang out. I like their Hawaiian theme. I used to go to their lower Queen Anne Location more often by myself and with friends. It was a more spacious venue with a larger dance floor and nice stage. There used to be ample parking. They had to close and move to their current location since a Brand new Apt went up there on Mercer. The new location is very difficult to find free street parking unless you go on a Sun. Night, take the bus or Light rail or Uber it. There are a bunch of bars and restaurants across the street and near by. On the Sun I went, the early Singers were pretty good. There was a variety of songs. I give the Singers 4 Stars. Sometimes you go to new Karaoke places and run into drunk singers or people who can't sing very well. The waitress quoted me that a juice would be $4 and she wanted a credit card up front. I told her, I'll prepay with cash. I gave her a $20. She ended up just giving me $15 back but Did not count it in front of me. So I did not have a chance question her being shorted $1 or ask if a non alcoholic juice is $5. That's a bit steep for a bar. For Westin Hotel, yes it's $5 for a soft drink. This place is good for small groups of 4-8 only. For large groups like 20 people, there won't be enough space to sit together.

Joseph G.

Yelp
Great place to sing karaoke. I quit drinking recently and was nervous about singing sober but everyone was super supportive and even cooperative.

Yelp
Lgbtq+ friendly tiki bar with great service and quality cocktails. We sat down and received actual table service which isn't common at most Bar Lounges but I assume since they served eats as well this isn't too uncommon (and always welcome). They serve food until midnight and have a solid happy hour with vegan and gluten-free options... Hula you're Hulaing your way into my heart. Tall tables, Tiki decor and tenacious tunes between karaoke sets. Sign up for Karaoke yourself... that's right it's self service as they have tablet like devices around the Karaoke Jockey booth just right of the main entrance. It takes a minute to figure out the system (though it's easy to use) and if anyone else has performed the song you wish previously... it will not go through... so check in with the KJ to make sure you're actually in as this happened to my best friend Ryan twice. Also make sure you're entering yourself as a new artist. You can't sign up for a second song until you've performed your first however if you arrive early you'll get to sing your heart out... the wait toward the later half of the night can be a long however social one. The banos/bathrooms are in the far back (left of the exit/main door/entrance) and are decent enough. The have some a fun photo booth that takes card or cash but is more than you'd expect. The drinks are a bit pricey so I suggest making your cocktail of choice a double... which they might also push a little now that I think of it... but I ain't even mad... I had never been to Hula Hula, but now can't wait to venture back for Seattle Shenanigans.

Yelp
My friend and I are visiting from out of town this week and were told that this place was great. The drinks aren't really great, but the experience was okay until the DJ started taking the mic multiple times while other people were waiting for a chance to sing before the last song of the night. And this was after waiting for 2.5 hours!!! In my opinion, if it's known that the queue of people who want to sing is long and they've been waiting for a while already, then it would make sense for the DJ to refrain from singing long drawn out songs that have more of an instrumental break than actual song lyrics. It's rude. Especially when there's a cover to get in on certain days (like today!!!). I really think things could have been better if DJ KJ Gladys had been more considerate of the patrons who came to have a great time and left completely frustrated.

Yelp
Tiki Bar. Karaoke. Friends. Fun. Need I say more? A super fun spot with the traditional karaoke where you get up on stage to sing. The whole bar sings with you, and it's generally a ton of fun. If you plan on singing, would arrive very early as the wait gets long fast. I was just there to support, and it was still SO. FUN. The drinks are really tasty -- both the cocktails and beers I got were great! They maybe run a tad on the pricier side but honestly it's a blast regardless. They check vax cards at the door, which made me feel a lot better about going in as well.

Aman C.

Yelp
Drinks taste like piss water and don't get you in the karaoke state at all. Don't come here
google avatar

Tristan M.

Yelp
Fun karaoke spot! Went for a coworkers birthday and it was a blast! So many people were actually very talented as singing and that was very nice. I spent the first hour alone just soaking in the atmosphere and enjoying the vibes. Food was tasty that I got as well. Def a fun spot to hang and I recommend. They have a fun little photo booth there too when you're a little tipsy and think that selfies are a great idea!

Erika T.

Yelp
Didn't try the food service was alright and ambiance too.. mediocr.. drinks weren't good over all not what I was expecting..

Yelp
A nice little tiki bar where you can sign up for karaoke. They have a large variety of songs that you can choose from. There is a little stage and if you choose a popular enough song there will be a small crowd right in front who will sing and dance with you. It's hilarious and such a great sight to see when the entire bar is singing along because everyone's just having a good time and embarrassing themselves one way or another. I ordered the classic Mai Tai ($11) which did not taste good. It was super sour and everyone at my table tried it and they all scrunched their faces as well. I had to power through to finish my drink and it was not pleasant. I'll make sure to try something else next time or get a well drink. A friend and I signed up to sing a song but there was such a long queue and we left before it was our turn. My friend lives close by so this is a place we'll be going to again and we will keep trying!

Yelp
Fun Tiki/Karaoke bar! My bf and I stopped by on a great night where lot's of people sang so good. I love that they have slushies! SO good.

Yelp
Amazing karaoke bar with full of great people. My favorite part when I visited is everyone got together and saw me sing Motley Crue and linkin park and My chemical romance which made me feel honored. Oh and the food such as wings are delicious too. Definitely looking forward to coming here again this summer either July or in august during my birthday week.

Will F.

Yelp
Karaoke, stage lighting, sound is Amazing! Super friendly staff! On the weekend it gets really busy, & it's really fun to sing in front of a big supportive crowd, but if you want to sing a lot, come earlier in the night.

Emily V.

Yelp
YO ASH! THEY ARE SO COOL. THE VIBES AMAZING. she is an eloquently spoken person. 10/10 would recommend. Super good with checkin in on you with drink requests.

D. W.

Yelp
Some friends and I came back after a few months of going elsewhere for karaoke. It was nice to be back and see a few new drinks on the menu and a positive atmosphere from the staff (mostly). I say mostly because the waitress was extremely aggressive, it made my whole group very uncomfortable. She mentioned for us to open a new tab with her multiple times - so she could get the tip, I assume. None of us wanted to put down another card (we had one open with the bartender) and when she suggested us closing our first tab to order through her since we weren't sitting at the bar, it made us close out and just leave altogether to avoid being further harassed. I assumed ordering through the bartender (having classic bartender banter, asking cocktail questions, ordering on our own time, etc) then taking a seat was allowed - but apparently not anymore. Boy has Hula Hula changed! We almost felt bad leaving until we saw her curse out another employee as we left. We stopped coming to Hula Hula for a while but were excited to come back. But after this interaction (more like interrogation), we are sticking with other karaoke bars in the area. I guess come here if it's fun for you to be harassed and made uncomfortable by the staff. PS for those who do go despite the warning - the karaoke selection is subpar and the karaoke guy can be a bit rude.

Yelp
Not my favorite place for karaoke but can be a good time if you bring a group. If you plan to sing expect to not sing on a Friday or Saturday. The way the karaoke is set up on iPads is terrible as the iPads always crash. The stage makes you feel like nobody is really watching as everyone hangs out up-top. Parking is always terrible here as well. Good food tho! Love those spam corn dogs!

Noora M.

Yelp
Hula Hula I freaking miss you. Best time spent on a trip to Seattle. Shout out to Veronica for making these nights epic!!
google avatar

Pragya A.

Yelp
The seating at this bar is great, generally available. The karaoke is great as well. The drinks are unique and strong, overall a good experience with great music.
google avatar

Yelp
Little bit off from the bitten path, and a bit of smokers up front. Don't recommend sitting outside if you can't stand cigarettes smell. Service was friendly, and they got karaoke!! Good place to go to if you want to disconnect from the real world, drink up, and enjoy some random strangers singing..

Teya E.

Yelp
The owner will watch women get grabbed and do absolutely nothing about it but validate the man who has been touching and grabbing and creeping on you and your friends. 7 women complained about the same man together and we were told we were lying. The worst bar I have ever been to by far. If you go, don't expect them to do anything about the men putting their hands all over the women there. Edit: Spoke to some people in the area and this place is known for incidents like this. Do NOT go.

Yelp
Hula Hula is a BLAST! It's a super vibey tiki bar with great drinks and great service. I haven't tried any of their food yet, but all of their food options sound super good. I'm sure I'll be getting a snack one of the next times I'm there. :) The drinks are a little pricey, but honestly, I just expect it now when I go out in the area haha You can sign yourself up for karaoke and choose your song. The instructions to sign up are right by the tablet that you sign up on, so it makes the process super simple. The wait for your performance sometimes can take kind of a long time, but it gives you some time to get loosened up, have a couple delicious drinks, and sing and dance to all the other performers. All of the bouncers and bartenders have been super personable and sooo nice. I'm such a big fan of karaoke bars, and this place is hands-down the best one I've ever been to. The energy here is so positive and the vibes are ~immaculate~. I can't wait to go back and sing my next song!!!

Yelp
There's a cover on Friday, very rude when asked what's the cover for Stood in line, asked for what's happening inside, and the door guy was very rude

Yelp
The bouncer is extremely rude at 6:30 pm... We decided not to come in because of the bouncee. To the owner, don't loose customers because of your people at the door

Yelp
One member of our large party was from Jamaica, was clearly over 21, and presented her Jamaican ID and drivers license. Doorman refused entry unless she presented a PASSPORT, forcing our entire party to go next door to Crescent Lounge which has much cheaper drinks and a better crowd. Hula never again!
