Even though I live locally and have heard good things about Hullabaloo for years, I had never been until this week when my brother and sister in law came to town. They found it by researching online and were attracted to what they perceived as low-key, relaxed vibes. I booked a table in the back patio, a lovely spot with plants and flowering trees, and an old airstream trailer. Happy hour goes until 7pm, and were very pleased to discover cocktails half off regular price. The place is known for their creative cocktails, and I was game to try something different. I ordered the Johnny Nash, pecan bourbon and pecan bitters and some other ingredients. It was a bit strong for me and I wouldn't order it again. Drink #2 was the Little Richard tutti fruiti, and it had the best thick chunk of grilled pineapple in it. That was a winner!
Happy hour snacks are $5, and we took advantage: zucchini chips, shallot rings, and crispy parmesan habanero garbanzo beans (chickpeas). The winner is definitely the garbanzos. The other apps had a bit too much breading. I ate some of the zucchini chips after pulling off the batter. We also had crispy shrimp (not on HH menu) that were delicious.
For the main meal, my brother had a large pork chop that he clearly enjoyed. I had the pork sandwich -- roasted pork with broccoli rabe, pickled red onion, and garlic aioli on grilled ciabatta. It was unbelievably good. My in law had the ratatouille that came with a slice of pesto toast. It was all better than I'd hoped, and after the two cocktails I was in a good, happy place. A flower fell right onto my sandwich, and I'm choosing to take that as good luck. Thank you Hullabaloo!
