Growing pains after reopening, I guess. The relic of a tagteam of bouncers, adding an air of "exclusivity" with a touch of 1 OAK pretension, checking the door remains post-COVID (could've done away with that, honestly, but fine).
This spot, pre-COVID, was one of the few higher end bars in the area where you could get dressed up and not feel out of place for a night out (most bars around here are guys in Patriots hats and a pair of Allbirds, even on a Friday night - no hate but sometimes you want to dress up and do the fancy thing). They had a great, and surprisingly well-priced, whiskey list. Good cocktails. And the alternating chef thing, which is cool enough. It wasn't ever great, in my opinion, but it filled a niche in the area and did it quite well.
Then COVID happened and they closed for the better part of 3 years. Now it's 30 minutes between cocktails, glasses being dropped (I think at least 4 got dropped at different times our last trip in), higher prices, a smaller (and more expensive) whiskey list.
I'm super happy they reopened but they are still working out the kinks of reopening and sourcing staff, I think. The cocktails are a bit underwhelming and too expensive for the quality. The space is still gorgeous, though!
3 stars is probably too high for the two post-COVID experiences I've had there (1-2 is more fair) but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and will revisit in 6 months or so hoping they've worked out the bugs.
