Europe Power Outage Impacts Airport and Transport in Spain, France, Portugal—What Travelers Should Know

"Lisbon's main international airport stopped accepting arrival flights for several hours amid the grid failure (not taking arrivals through at least 3:30 p.m. GMT) and experienced widespread delays, with power still not restored as of 12:50 p.m. local time, leaving travelers disrupted and prompting advisories to check with airlines." - Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca is an award-winning journalist and co-founder of Be a Travel Writer, an online course for the next generation of travel journalists. Why Vintage Shopping Is Taking Off at Airports

"Located inside Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon, this airport shop is just over a year old and already a hit, according to Cláudia Carvalho, a spokesperson for Portugal Duty Free, which operates the concession. Its ever-rotating selection often includes authenticated pieces from Bottega Veneta, Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Prada, and Saint Laurent, Carvalho says, with prices starting at $400 and rising to the five figures for highly coveted finds — including Birkin and Kelly bags from Hermès. London stylist Bella Hignett recounts her experience finding a secondhand Louis Vuitton Neverfull there: “I was there early, so I had a look around and was excited to come across it,” and notes that her client paid $540 for a piece that retails for $2,030 new." - Chrissie McClatchie Chrissie McClatchie Chrissie McClatchie writes about travel, wine, and yachting from her home on the Côte d’Azur, where she has lived for nearly two decades. Google
Nice airport; it was very busy when I went, which was around late October/early November. Lots of walking between terminals or the luggage pickup. The airport was very large and only 10-15 minutes behind, so that was great.

Anthony Mak

Google
The airport was a small one. Most of the flights were intra-Europe flights. Despite it was small, there were many shops which were enough for you to spend time. Yet it was very busy and the road traffic management was really poor. There were always traffic jam on the road near the airport. Always add more buffer to your schedule when taking a flight here.

Lee C

Google
Surprised that from Lisbon to Istanbul, we needed to clear TWO security checks and customs. I experienced crazy long queues last November and got a scare. Thought we were going to miss our flight. Also super crowded at eateries. Not enough room for the number of flights. Please plan and cater more time when departing from here.

Cort Mahan

Google
It is time for a massive upgrade. The sheer amount of passengers alone should drive the need for upgrades. They need more Runways. Our plane had to loiter for a long time waiting to land. This is an old Airport and can be very confusing. The passport control needs to be fixed. Went through it twice and it took so long in those lines, I barely caught my flight out. They have lots of nice stores and duty free things but be aware you will be passing through a few security checkpoints AFTER you purchase. Perhaps the most frustrating part about this airport is that you have no idea where your gate is until its time to board, so you may not even have time to go to the sorely needed to be upgraded bathrooms in fear of missing a flight. I think Lisboa deserves a better airport

Isabel Veiga

Google
Long and miserable queues for security checks due to 2 of the 7 lines not being manned. Even the staff admitted they were struggling to cope. The airport claims 86% of people waited less than 10 minutes in December - highly unlikely if 100% of people have to queue 45 minutes on a Wednesday in mid-January. Perhaps someone should look at the flight schedule to judge how many passengers need to be processed and hire the staff accordingly. Add to this the people pushing trolley bags in circles begging for money from people waiting in the check-in queues plus the complete absence of airport security and you have a pretty grim experience. Once again, the best thing about the airport is the food - which is amazing.

Srikanth Tripuraneni

Google
It's a big airport but it needs to be upgraded. There are no sign boards to display which way we should go for security and the passport control takes a lot of time with massive queues to fly into Portugal for other passports. But flying out doesn't take much time.

Akhil Mohan

Google
The airport needs to be upgraded…. The worst part was the queue for passport control….there are just 4-5 officials for more than 600 passengers…and few of them missed their flights also due to these long queues….the staffs and securities were unhelpful….

Toni Thompson

Google
Luckily this airport was a long layover between flights so I had no security experiences. In Terminal 1, for international and most domestic flights, the area is wide and is accessible on walkways and on the electric walkways. Several venues offer snack foods, fast foods, good sit down meals, pastries, desserts, and beverages of fountain and bottled sodas, and an array of wines, beers, and alcoholic beverages. Shops offer clothing, electronics, travel pillows and other travel needs. One shop sells many healthcare needs. They offer many central areas with charge ports. They offer an enclosed play area with several hands-on fine motor activities. Signage is good with dark background and various colors coded to gates, restrooms, etc Free Wifi is reliable. They use electric wheel chair transport for those requesting wheelchair service. Men's and women's restrooms are near family restrooms and dedicated wheelchair access restrooms. Family restrooms contain diaper changer. Wheelchair access restrooms are large, have moveable arm rests and 1 grab bar for toilet and arm rests for sink. AED devices are well marked. I found one Courtesy phone in this area.

Yelp
This airport is okay. Pretty clean in common areas, as well as the bathrooms. There's some places to buy food and drinks. The terminals are a bit hard to get to- or at least the one I was flying out of. It was located on the bottom, reminded me of a large basement. It was pretty disorganized, as I was sitting with some others about 2 hours before my flight departure, but staff told us we had to leave because there was another flight before us. We got up and left, and then our flight got moved to a different gate that was on the main floor. Another thing I disliked about this airport was there were barely any water fountains around. Luckily, I found one near one of the bathrooms.

Yelp
Cons: Inconsistent accessibility for handicapped folks. We took a flight last April into Lisbon with TAP and we had assistance between and onto the plane with wheelchair assistance and also a lift elevator. Our trip this month had no assistance (we did request it beforehand) and if you're in a wheelchair, I'm not sure you'll be able to get on the plane. I'm on crutches and it was hard getting into the bus (high step, at least 1.5') and then you had to climb stairs up to the plane and down from the plane after landing. I'm not sure older folks or people with more progressive disabilities would be able. I was really surprised at the lack of care this time around.

Yelp
For a small international airport, the security line is insanely long, even at 4 in the morning. There are very few shops open early in the morning even though there are multiple flights departing. There are only two lounges one for Star alliance and one for priority pass. The tax-free shopping here. It's very confusing. The stores and their associates don't seem to understand the process.
google avatar

Josiah G.

Yelp
The instructions from gate to gate were very easy to understand. The food court is massive with plenty of options

Pedro L.

Yelp
Rip off taxi stand. Take uber instead. Driver seemed nice. He spoke some Portuguese with me. He did not speak English. Which was fine by me. Well, I want to pay. He wanted three times the amount of uber. Either fix a price before you get in the car or go Uber and know what you're paying.

Yelp
After a month absence from YELP in Greece, no YELP in Greece, we flew into Lisbon Portugal. Easy to get around , clear signs. Baggage claim clearly marked. Customs did not apply from Greece. Let'sGo!

Yelp
Thieves will cheat you out of your money Do not use your credit card I called customer service and they hung up on me Portugal is the worst place I have ever visited I will not be bat ever

Yelp
Shopping variety is pretty good (but $$$ tourist prices). Food availability is not bad (but variance is super high, by a long shot the shittiest food we had in the country is here. Taxis even from the official taxi line are known scammers as we found out the hard way: we fell for the "broken meter and credit card machine", 40 euros to city center. (It should be around 10 euros.) Just stick to Uber and hopefully drive the taxi scammers out of business.
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
Nice airport with very clean bathrooms, lots of food options including McDonald's. Easy to navigate and the kiosk for information was manned by a very friendly knowledgeable gentleman.
google avatar

Mel T.

Yelp
It's a pretty confusing airport. There are signs that you follow in order to get to customs but then they drop off at some point and then you kind of have to just figure it out on your own. Other than that, the airport is not terrible. It's relatively clean, there's a Priority Pass lounge (ANA in Terminal 1), and the metro is connected. We didn't end up taking the metro just because we had a ton of luggage and Ubers are super cheap, but it's nice to have the option to.
google avatar

Yelp
Lisbon Airport (Humberto Delgado Airport) is the largest airport in Portugal, it's remarkably close to the city centre and takes around 20 minutes on the Red Line of the Lisbon Metro. It's divided across two terminals, with low-cost airlines using Terminal 2 when departing Lisbon, although all airlines use Terminal 1 for arrivals - I did find this a little confusing as my airline ticket didn't say much, and they don't make it clear how to get to Terminal 2, I ended up having to ask a police officer who informed me the only way to get to Terminal 2 was via shuttle bus. The main entrance to the Airport seemed rather pleasant, as I was visiting just before Christmas, there was a large Christmas tree and it seemed pleasant and modern, the vast contradiction when entering Terminal 2 was highly noticeable. Terminal 2 just seemed like a god-awful run down Airport from a third-world country, it felt so basic, it was like I'd gone back in time by a couple of decades. The queues were poorly managed throughout the Airport including at check-in and security, with no bag-drop machines which you see at the larger airports. I did have to wait quite a while just to check my bags. Terminal 2 is basically two large halls, one to check in your bags, and one after security while you wait to head to your gate. After security, the Airport didn't have much at all going on, there was a McDonald's, a Nespresso-branded counter serving coffee, a Heineken-branded counter serving beer, but little else. The Duty-Free was small, and there wasn't any generic store selling bottled drinks, snacks and travel essentials. There was a lack of seating and outlets throughout the Terminal too, in both the general area and the food area, I even struggled to get a seat anywhere in the evening, while waiting for my delayed night flight, so I'd hate to imagine what it'd be like in the peak period of the day. The Airport also had a lack of announcements which didn't fill me with confidence when my flight was delayed, and more updates would have been appreciated. 2* - Lisbon is such a beautiful city but the Airport doesn't meet that, it isn't practical for a city the size of Lisbon and the passenger numbers it gets. Lisbon Airport alone gets more than double the number of passengers of Porto, the country's second busiest airport.

Yelp
Pretty busy airport, having travel TAP airlines fornthe first time, we were disappointed with the level of comfort in economy class. Seating in the back of thr plane, seats are really small. Landing after 6.5 hrs of direct flight from NYC to Lisbon, was painful on my back and my butt. The seats might as well been a wood bench. When i got the the airport just connecting to the free WIFI was a hassle. End up having tk connect to my Verizon wifi and paying U.S.A. Fees because the WIFI was useless. Finding my way to the immigration check point was a long way at 10:30am when we got here. Bathroom coming off thr plane were horrible, filthy and long lines. Had to wait until we found bathroom at the luggage claim area which were better kept and no lines. This airport is not suited to handle the minimal amount of flights during non busy hours, cant imagine what a disaster this place is when its a holiday. Finding thr ubers at level 2, is chaos. One way in and one way out, poor design that chokes the traffic trying to get out of the pick up zone. Thank god, i only had small back pack and carry on, cannot imagine if we had to pick ul luggage.

Yelp
Landed here from Barcelona...getting the bags was quite inefficient. Signage was dodgy though we arrived at the carousel long before the bags did. Once we collected the bags getting a cab and onto our hotel was not a problem. Lisbon was stop three. Pros: A smaller city, easier to navigate despite a larger language barrier. Good food, cold beer (Super Bock!)-pastels de nata. Beautiful buildings and plazas-really loved the paint colors. A trip up the coast while still quite built up as Europe tends to be was a quality day trip. Cons: The cobbles are quaint. And uneven. And slippery. And really reflect the sun. Biking did not seem safe or well thought out here so I passed.

Yelp
Aeroporto de Lisboa is an international airport. From downtown, the car sharing service was 8 euro and I upgraded for a Tesla. It doesn't have much options for arriving area for food but departing has some choices. You can buy gifts at reasonable price such as wine, sardines and many other items. My favorite circus themed sardines shop is here. I am happy to be able to visit this amazing country filled with delicious food and lots of history. I do want to add the process for security, custom and baggage claim was so efficient. At custom, they have a digital passport lane to United States holders and others. Overall, I had an good experience and I would consider returning in the future. It was a plus to use the car sharing service as it had amazing rates and it was the lowest I ever paid for any ride in any country.

Yelp
Leaving Lisbon headed to Seville. Check in the airport is smooth @ the kiosks, but then you go through a serpentine line to go through the luggage screening. After the luggage screening there is walk to duty free shops (wt?). As I he cattle meander through the stores people are trying to get to their flights (not a good traffic flow) After the duty free stores is a large open circular food court w/a bunch of different restaurants where you can grab a snack or a meal before heading to your gates. I found out the large open area is a staging/waiting area until your gate comes up. We arrived at the airport @ about 10:30 for a 1:05 flight. It's now 12.03 and we're still waiting to find out which S gate we are suppose to proceed As you can see 12:05 our gate finally came up
google avatar

Yelp
Overall a good airport with plenty of places to eat and drink while waiting. Confusing as most airports of course but pretty good about the language barrier. We were lost a couple of times and pretty hard to find people to help but when you do, they are helpful which was much appreciated. When you think you are checked in and through with lines, normally you still have a step or two that you figure out as you get towards your destination so get to your destination before you sit down for an espresso or bite to eat. Plenty of places nearer your final boarding area. If lots of time, there is good shopping and food right in the middle. They make it so you can't at least walk by stuff to buy to bring to your destination.

Yelp
This airport has the BEST food options I've ever seen at an airport... and I've been to a lot of them. It's set up food-court style, with lots of fast casual spots surrounding a big seating area. There was a taste of Portugal spot with chefs making pastel de natas from scratch in front of everyone and roasting chicken on skewers. There was the famous PAUL French bakery with incredible-looking sandwiches on French baguettes and patisserie-filled glass cases. There was a healthy food shop that had fresh juices, incredible-looking pasta and sushi and salads, and so much more. Everything truly looked incredible. I was having the best time and am thankful that my husband reminded me we needed to get to our gate for our flight - LOL. So impressed!
google avatar

Kevin H.

Yelp
The Lisbon Airport in Portugal is a small airport that makes me appreciate Augusta (AGS) airport. First of all the flight attendants on the Eurowings flight were friendly and accommodating. The airport staff despite the language barrier were polite and professional. The only things I'm having a hard time with is that once you clear security and find your respective gate... once you're call to board your flight you have to catch a bus to your plane...

Ankita K.

Yelp
This airport is pretty chaotic with loads of shopping options!! Here's what made us happy - it had McDonalds, which offered the McVeggie burger with cheese. We were flying TAP Portugal and the food is horrid on the flight. Thanks to this option, we were able to grab a bite and take it to go too! Waiting for this vegetarian option to be available in more countries. Thank goodness, we found this yummy treat in Portugal!!
google avatar

Andrea H.

Yelp
The Lisbon airport is a nice airport and easy to get around. Signs are in English and Portuguese which is always helpful. Flew Tap Airlines and their hub is Lisbon. I had a few stopovers here. Planes don't park at the gate and you're bused from the plane to the terminal. Nice stores and food choices. Had a 7 am flight and everything was open. It was crowded and they seem to have their act together. Security and passport check only took 10 minutes. That's a definite plus in my book.
google avatar

Kanchan B.

Yelp
Arrived at 19:45 on a Thursday before Easter and for non-EU citizens there were only 2 customs windows open, so it definitely took a fair bit of time to get thru border security! But was finally thru and then it was well laid our with tons of English signage directions to baggage claim area.
google avatar

Holly B.

Yelp
This is probably the worst, most confusing, and frustrating airport I've ever been in. They are doing construction, which is fine. My issue was the lack of signs and communication. We had several different employees tell us to go in different directions to get to customs. That was frustrating, but the worst was in the baggage claim area. It was very crowded and I think they were trying to have some control but they made a huge line when it wasn't really necessary, in the middle of the baggage claim, so people were having to walk through to get their bags and try to find the end of the line. The employees were yelling when people got confused. Not to mention, there was one door going out of that room. Had there been a fire or some other emergency, there is no way we would have gotten out. I would give 0 stars if I could.
google avatar

Bella J.

Yelp
I really liked this airport. I usually don't like any airport. It is usually a means to an end. This airport looks like a mall. and tax-free part is definitely a bonus. The lounges for priority-pass is upstairs, so it is easy to find them and food is okay. They have their local Portuguese wine. All in all, a comfortable airport and lots of shops to distract you. Security was nice and rather fast.
google avatar

Karen Y.

Yelp
This airport is not the easiest to navigate... especially if you're taking Delta... it's hidden beyond the entry way and have to walk quite a bit to find the Delta kiosk. If you have tax refund stuff, oh boy... apparently you need to check your luggage first and then go through all the security check point and THEN there's a station for VAT inside. This is ONLY for those holding your items on the plane home. This line moves... (not fast) but there are machines however, anything over $5k spent, will not work on those machines. It must be validated. (To my fellow ladies & gents who shops... bc $1 = €1 was amazeball! How could we not? lol) Just have lots of patience. BUT if your items are in your checked luggage (like port or heavier items) - then you need to get the tax refund done at the first VAT center, which only has 1 person doing it all. However this person will help you tag your luggage as well. Prepare to wait a looooong time tho. Overall, very messy all around and confusing at times. Be sure to give yourself 2.5-3hrs there... 1) airline check-in or baggage drop; 2) Security line, 3) VAT, 4) eat something quick (decent selection of eateries) and then 5) Custom exit... hoping that's all the lines I've managed to cover. Airport is clean, bathroom could be cleaner, people are sometimes helpful and finally, take deep breaths. Good luck my fellow travelers! #tchau #portugal #travelagain

Yelp
Very beautiful airport and very clean. Easy to catch a can in Terminal 2. They are open 24 hours so if you have an early flight, you can sleep at the airport and not get harassed. Super comfortable seats at sone of the gates that recline so that you can get a little sleep (possibly) if you should need it. Why only 3 stars? Had a hard time finding baggage claim and when I did find it (at 11pm) I was told I had to leave and comeback at 7 am the next day. WHAT??? You are open all day, all night!! Had to wash my clothes in the sink and dry with a blow dryer because they were all I had! I still liked this airport more than Munich!!

Yelp
In on Thursday afternoon, out on Tuesday morning. I had a quick visit to Lisbon on vacation. It is quite close to being perfect for tourism. Lots of great pluses including easy and inexpensive public transport into the downtown area that runs from early morning (not 3:00 am, sadly) until midnight. A half hour to just about anywhere by subway and then connections to trams or buses to the rest of the city, or you can ferry across the river to Almada. Lisbon is also a cruise port. Free wifi, easy and quick security, great signage in Portuguese and English, a lot of shopping, many restaurant options. What could make it perfect? Lisbon is a hub for TAP but is only a spoke for KLM, Air France and Lufthansa. For the early morning departures - we're talking 5:00 to 6:00 am - there is no business lounge available. That's annoying. But at least I had a jetbridge for my KLM flight from and to Amsterdam (Sorry, Susan P.!). On arrival in January 2022, they are checking COVID tests. This is published by the airlines and you should expect to show your test results after you clear baggage claim. And of course, masks are required throughout the airport, even if you're taking a nap on a bench. [Review 16566 overall - 84 in Portugal - 76 of 2022.]

Yelp
This is the second time I found myself with a 8-10 hour layover in LIS. By the time we arrived, it was a little after 10pm. The airport services (food court/markets) were closed, and there was NO info to be found at the "info desk". I can't remember which gate we landed at but the security allowed us to stay at the gate and we found some comfortable seats. Just as soon as I closed my eyes... they started to vacuum clean(ugh!)! I had to move my feet because I was bumped by the vacuum. Like really?! You don't see a person laying here?! Make sure to secure your stuff, security was absent during late night! The only positive was the airport had very good WI-FI, a must have for any airport sleeper! My advice would be to head to a nearby hotel to get a proper nights rest.
google avatar

Justin M.

Yelp
Nice airport. Passport control was a breeze with the electronic scanning option of your passport. So you scan your passport, take a picture, then move on to a border officer. There was no line. There is a metro station in the airport where you can go pretty much everywhere. Also there were a cafe, ATM, and two bathrooms on both ends. With Portugal being a popular tourist destination, Lisbon airport must expand to accommodate this growing need.
google avatar

Ausanka D.

Yelp
The airport is clean, huge. I speak English and all the direction were also in english. All the written instruction are precise.
google avatar

Angela R.

Yelp
This airport is a bit wonky in my opinion. We arrived late (thanks to a massively delayed flight) and struggled to find the rideshare pickup area, which is not clearly marked- or marked at all. Our first two rideshare drivers canceled on us at the last minute randomly, which isn't the airport's fault directly, but due to the unlabeled pickup space we were doubting we were in the right area. There is quite a bit of walking involved in this airport. I don't know if it's due to our particular flight/airline (TAP), domestic flights in general, or just all flights, but we had to board and deboard the plane by bus vs bridge. When flying out, our gate wasn't announced until right before boarding, leaving us to sit in the general area (which was quite crowded) and then hustle to the very far gate at the last minute. Overall it seemed clean and there was a nice assortment of shops and restaurants. I think convenience could be improved but Lisbon itself is beautiful and this is its airport so I may pass through again.
google avatar

Eileen B.

Yelp
I would give this a zero if I could. Came in from Cincinnati. Got off flight no signs and also people telling you different ways to go. Finally find the line for immigration took about 90 minutes. After immigration trying to find our bags. One small sign in a huge baggage area. Then to exit the airport only one door open for us to exit. Literally hundreds of people trying to leave. There was a line nobody adhered to. People were yelling fighting. Horrible way to see a city for the first time.
google avatar

Andrea U.

Yelp
Busy airports with gates, restrooms, baggage, taxi stands & parking well marked by in English & Portuguese. Lots of restaurants around a food hall & shops. Impressed with the football. Even without an information kiosk it was very easy to navigate our way
google avatar

Haley S.

Yelp
Lots of good shopping, plenty of good coffee (and pastel de natas), and a good amount of seating. The gates themselves are a bit hectic, and the airport is busy, but we had no problem getting through security and finding out plane.
google avatar

Daniel S.

Yelp
Security was pretty quick, and had a variety of shops and food. Had 4 flights and all required taking a bus to the plane. Be ready to wait for immigration, not enough officers available when our planes came in.
google avatar

Adam C.

Yelp
It does not get much worse that a 3 hour wait to pass immigration and apparently this is somehow acceptable. It reminds you of a third world country but that would be unfair to them. The airport does not have many gates so you are bused from the plane. Again worse than most third world countries I have visited. You have a connection? Forget about it.
google avatar

Lindsay H.

Yelp
Chaotic cattle herds and lacking clear and early communication about gate assignments. Not enough space in concourses, which are oddly narrow and they try to funnel huge crowds of people through tiny hallways and sets of doors. Some nice shops and cafeteria but the signage and processes need help. Transport from the airport is challenging to find and navigate. Lacking and confusing signage made us wander aimlessly and go in circles, which almost made us miss our train to Porto. We were surprised by how little we needed to take out or remove while in the security lines. This made the lines go so much more quickly than any airport I have been in.
google avatar

Justin H.

Yelp
Pretty nice & clean. Reminds me of a high end mall! Seriously, this airport has a ton of stores and restaurants. You can also get the traditional pastel de nata at a number of places here. Security is efficient and the customs line moves quick. Overall: I like the airport better than many I have visited. Uber is an option. But, it takes a little knowhow to find the area. There's no signs. But, the Ubers show up in a little turnaround area that's near the parking garage. If you go through the process of summoning the Uber, it shows you.
google avatar

Thembi S.

Yelp
Touched down about an hour ago and have been in lines since. This is no good, this process needs improvement. At least the airport is clean.
google avatar

Susan P.

Yelp
We visited this airport twice once when we came in and once when we left. The first time we came in our airplane landed on the tarmac they rolled up some stairs you walk down and get on the bus and the bus drives you to the terminal. Now they're very worried about Covid in this particular part of the world however they crammed the entire playing on this bus. But I'm telling you it was full I'm not even exaggerating there was like no air because there were so many people. It's interesting how they're only worried about Covid when it's convenient for them. We had to walk like 25 minutes after the bus to find our luggage. They make you walk through this big shopping mall type area to get anywhere. It's pretty ridiculous. The layout of this airport is kind of silly because you know you're going to spend a good amount of time hiking no matter where it is that you need to go. Even more entertaining, after we got off that bus crammed with many people, we got our luggage and then we went to leave the airport and you had to pass a checkpoint and show your Covid vaccine and a QR code from your test within the last 24 hours to get out of the airport. No what's more interesting is that the lines to get out were hundreds and hundreds of people long and everybody was smashed in the area breathing the same air. Purely ridiculous. When we return to the airport they don't check your Covid status at all to get in. We again had to hike a solid 20+ minutes maybe longer. Do you self check-in self baggage drop for TAP airlines and I think for the rest of the airlines was in efficient because it barely worked. We have first class tickets and the first class line wasn't really marked. The machines to check in and get your bag tags were chaotic at best it was just a big cluster and everybody was running around and milling around. We were there early so we spent half an hour in the priority pass lounge which was nice. They had some decent food selections and that was the bright spot of this visit. Then we hiked another 20 minutes to our gate only to find out that there was some delay that nobody bothered to tell us. So we stood in this tiny room with hundreds of people crammed in together for 45 minutes waiting for them to figure out what was the delay. Then you stand a little while longer in the jetway while they're doing whatever it is they're doing. I understand that delays happen but I could've spent that 45 minutes in the priority pass lounge not standing up because there's no seating close to the gates. What it boils down to is that nobody cares because they know you need to use the airport so there's no other choice, that equates to why even bother to make it better. Everybody we encounter that worked in that Airport was ambivalent at best. If there's anyway I can avoid this Airport in the future you know I will.

Yelp
Really beautiful airport and easy to get around. Great shops and restaurants when you are departing. Very high end stores in the International section.

Yelp
This airport is modern, served by a metro, has clear signage, is clean, and airline staff were helpful. Entering the country was fine. It was a long, boring walk to customs, but customs was quick and then I was outside hailing a cab. My customs agent was really nice. I told him I was visiting to drink the wine and eat the cheese and he laughed and told me how much I was going love their wine. Which I did. He was also hot. Leaving was OK. After security, you are directly deposited into a huge duty-free shop, which is smart. They have a nice Shiseido selection. But it was busy and crowded and I forgot to get ginja. My issue is that this airport does not offer much in the way of food, especially mid-morning, despite having a large food court. I think I ate at KFC. My gate was at the end of the airport and it was one of those situations where you had to take a bus to the plane. There wasn't much shopping or eating at my gate. Also, the gate seating is tiny and cramped and so are the gate lines. That part was kind of horrifying. I hope I fly TAP when I return (they were surprisingly expensive when I was visiting). And I hope to spend as little time in this airport as possible.

Yelp
Flying through TAP is an underrated affordable option to get yourself to Europe or through Europe from the US, so it's nice to know their hub is a decent layover. The quality of options available for food and retail varies wildly by terminal, but they do have some nice stuff, ranging from good ol' American Starbucks to a specialty Portuguese sardine shop. Prices aren't cheap, but it's not above average for an airport. It's nice that stores will take American currency at the automatic exchange rate, and can give you change in euros. I arrived in a rush on my second visit after a long layover in Lisbon, and employees were easy to find and ready to help. I also appreciated the timely free shuttle between the two terminals. Security appeared well-managed, everyone spoke English, and navigating the space was clear and simple. That's all I ask of an international airport.

Yelp
VAT Tax refund- in case you're wondering how it works. If your purchased goods are going to be checked, you first get a bag tag for the suitcase at the airline desk (as if you're checking it) and get your boarding pass. But the bag won't go to the plane, it'll be given to you to take to the tax refund place so you can show your goods. If your items were bought in Portugal, you can use the kiosk at the tax refund place. Otherwise, you'll have to wait in line. They're more strict about seeing the actual goods and making sure you're taking them on board than any other tax refund office I've previously used. Because of this, allow 30-60 min for this process, just in case. Make sure all your receipts get stamped. (The officer made a mistake and forgot to stamp one of mine.) After they verify your goods, they stamp your receipt and they send the suitcase to the plane. You then go through security and go to the Global Blue kiosk (if you purchased in Portugal) or the desk. They'll make sure your receipts are stamped and they get you cash or credit card credit. If your purchased goods are going with you you on board, you'll go to the refund place after security.

Yelp
Like other busy airports. The internet connects easily. Connected to Lisbon by a Metro, Aeroporto bus, other buses and taxis.

Yelp
The Humberto Delgado Airport or I just call it Lisbon Airport was somewhat confusing when I first entered. I eventually found my airline desk which was not busy at all. The entire check in process was painless and somewhat quick for an International fight. Once we checked in, I found myself lost in a maze of tax free stores that were the pathway to the gates. I must say it was impossible not to stop and shop. I was not aware of until I did my own investigation that there was another passport check before I could enter the gate area. It's a good thing I figured that out quickly otherwise I could have missed my flight. Once I reached the gate, there was another line for a passport and ticket review. We also needed to take a bus to our plane. I just assumed Delta Airlines was not as popular as American in Lisbon.

Yelp
Quite mediocre. I'm really not a fan of the European system when the gate for the departing flight is only announced 1 hour before the flight's scheduled time. This forces everyone to congregate in the center of the terminal, with limited seating available and limited food options. I was hoping to use TAP star alliance lounge, which was open according to the website. However, the lounge was actually closed due to the construction, and instead of offering customers an access to another lounge, everyone was given a measly €10 food voucher. I also would like to mention that duty free options are extremely limited. There is a small shop in the common European gates area, and then another one in the international gates area (you need to walk for some time to get there). Both stores offer very limited assortment of traditional duty free items. The prices are kind of okay, but don't rely too much on duty free if you are looking for something in particular. Truly an average experience.

Yelp
This airport has potential. Unfortunately our experience was not pleasant. The airport is clean and spacious. We landed today, Saturday January 4th and the lack of employee staffing and disorganization turned our arrival into a nightmare. Our plane landed at 2pm with many other large jumbo jets. The line for nonresidents was extremely long and was well over one thousand people in line. Only two immigration booths were staffed!!!! The only two employees working for nonresidents were painfully slow and appeared to have some type of conflict or concerns with about half the people that made it up to the booths. Several people in front and behind us were having emotional meltdowns because of missed connections for which the employees were of no help. Two women were sobbing behind us because of two failed attempts to successfully connect and clear the long lines. We were getting anxious and upset just observing other travelers drama. After two hours we finally cleared immigration because multiple people walked to the front demanding to speak to airport management over the chaos in immigration. When Chris and I were finally called to immigration the officer was in a bad mood and stamped our passports without looking at our photos or any of the standard questions when arriving in a foreign country. The one silver lining was the clean bathrooms. This airport needs adequate staffing and the employees need customer service training and schedule forecasting based on the volume of planes arriving. We hate this airport.

Yelp
Lisbon, Portugal nice main airport! Waiting rooms to get on and off flights tiny. All other amenities are ok. Duty free requires tickets and also some US cc's are not accepted! I'd go thru here again - but bad currency rates to exchange money.. tables, food court and toilets. Some areas are mall-like. Some locals drop in just to shop: and see the tourists that come by.. Rebel review: 5

Yelp
This place is a cluster, especially if you're flying American Airlines. The place is a mad house, once you finish ticketing, prepare for a maze through the airport. No direct paths to your gate. Enjoy duty free, random sitting Areas, etc. Oh, then enjoy a bus ride to your place and board like it's 1979.
